Wow! Expect some poor saps in Pakistan to be shot and/or trampled. This is the kind of thing that is gonna get the idiots completely riled up.
I am interested to see what the backlash will be. Unfortuneatly this was done by a group of private citizens, because they might be setting off some events that they can't control.
Sure enough, Havarti isn't gonna be selling in the ME anytime soon. What is amazing is how tame this is compared to the crap that the idiots pull all the time.

"The Stranger" by Rudyard Kipling
The Stranger within my gate,
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk—
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.
The men of my own stock
They may do ill or well,
But they tell the lies I am wonted to,
They are used to the lies I tell.
And we do not need interpreters
When we go to buy and sell.
The Stranger within my gates,
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control—
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.
The men of my own stock,
Bitter bad they may be,
But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
And see the things I see;
And whatever I think of them and their likes
They think of the likes of me.
This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf—
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

The "Satan inside" thingee at the end is referenced in the Danish intro. The original tradition involved burning a witch in effigy. The effigies would be constructed so that when the outer part burnt away one could see the image of Satan inside which would then burn at the end.
The ritual did two things: it revealed the Satanic evil inside worldly malefactors and then showed the destruction of the source -- Satan. The who ritual is about cleansing the community of evil.
The ritual, BTW (and apologies to neo-pagans out there) although it sort of corresponds to the solstice is, as the text makes clear, done on the eve before the feast of St. John the Baptist. The whole thing is about preparing the way for Christ, about "making the crooked straight and the rough places plain."
It's NOT Satanism, IOW. Quite the opposite.

Olmert's summit gesture to Abbas was more insult than overture
Mubarak and Jordan's King Abdullah II on hand to lend credibility as Arab "moderates," the best Olmert had to offer was a commitment to put a proposal before his Cabinet to free 250 members of Abbas' Fatah faction held in Israeli jails.
Given the fact that approximately 10,000 Palestinians - including hundreds of women and children - are currently languishing in Israeli custody, many of them without charge, no one should be fooled into thinking that Olmert is serious about peace.
Fine, toss the 250 back in jail where they belong then.

Perhaps the inevitable backlash of arson, murder, and media-dhimmi apologetics will lead to a global revolution against victim-group seething and PC intimidation as the controlling factor in public discourse.
This is also the subtext of the Mexican invasion in the US, where Hispano-racist groups like LULAC and the aptly named Raza hold the media and public officials hostage with the mere threat of taking offense.

This video opens with an update to the original "Dogme 1995 Manifesto", which was a group of rules on movie making that some young, innovative film directors out of Copenhagen (including Lars van Trier, he of Dancer in the Dark and Europa fame) swore to uphold. The rules are kinda arbitrary, and they of course didn't really follow them, but, in light of this video and what the western world is facing with islamism, it's kinda ironic and kinda sad-funny that the very first rule begins with:
1. Shooting must be done on location.

Subject: 22 Ways to be a Good Democrat
1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.
8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.
9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.
10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.
11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion of the Christ for financial gain only.
12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.
14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E. Lee, Thomas Edison & A.G. Bell.
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.
16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very nice person.
17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.
18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.
19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.
20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese Government is somehow in the best interest to the United States.
21. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right wing conspiracy.
22. You have to believe that it's okay to give Federal workers off on Christmas Day but it's not okay to say "Merry Christmas."

Typically, burning someone in effigy is making the statement, "We would like to kill you, but since you're not handy, we'll kill the next best thing."
This is making quite a different statement. It is saying, "You didn't like us merely drawing pictures and reacted like barbarians? Then how do you like this?
The ball is in your court - show us you can tolerate the existance and free expression of those that don't believe as you do."

Re. 22 Ways to be a Good Democrat
The really funny thing is the Daily Kos response.
22 WAYS TO BE A GOOD REPUBLICAN IN 2006
1. You have to be for killing convicts, but against a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy at any time.
2. You have to believe that government should keep their hands off business so they can enjoy prosperity.
3. You have to believe that putting guns in the hands of all Americans will make Americans more secure and that we should nuke China and North Korea before they nuke us.
4. You have to believe that the Federal government should make starving artists get a job.
5. You have to believe that global warming is no threat to us as long as we can produce our own air conditioning even though nature can't.
6. You have to believe that the Federal government should stand for liberty and equality for all, unless you're a homo.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is God's justice in action.
8. You have to believe that teachers who can't teach 4th-graders belong in public schools where children learn about sex from each other.
9. You have to believe that hunters care a lot about nature, otherwise there would be nothing to shoot, and environmentalists are a pain in the ass.
10. You have to believe that compassion and encouragement are for pussies.
11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion Of The Christ and we should all be required to see it.
12. You have to believe the NRA is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is bad because it supports the Constitution.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too high, and ATM fees are just right.
14. You have to believe that women who fought for women's rights don't even belong in an American history book.
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are a fair measure of a colored person's ability to compete in a white man's world.
16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton represents everything you're against.
17. You have to believe that socialism is bad because it forces you to help people who won't help themselves.
18. You have to believe conservatives always tell the truth, and lying about a sex offense is worse than lying about reasons for launching a pre-emptive war.
19. You have to believe that homosexuals and transvestites should stay indoors, while manger scenes on government property at Christmas should not bother anyone, no matter what your religion.
20. You have to believe that illegal Republican Party funding by corporate "donations" is somehow in the best interest to the United States.
21. You have to believe that a smaller government is a better government and that a smaller government means spending a $3 trillion surplus and then creating a $4 trillion deficit.
22. You have to believe that this message came from the pervasive, liberal media.

This is off thread, but I must get this off my chest: In World War II, the best men, resources and materials were out of the country, and were being used to free men, the French, and to fight oppression in many lands. Left at home were the near blind, the feeble-minded, and those who were physically weak. These poor souls struggled with inferior abilities, skills, tools, and goods. So the next time you think that you have a tough situation on your hands, please stop and remember the poor souls who built my house.

Benedict Reestablishes the Autonomy of Council for Interreligious Dialogue
Vatican City, Jun 25, 2007 (CNA).- Today it was revealed that the Pope has named that a head for the recently re-instated Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue. The new head of the council will be the current chief Vatican archivist and librarian, Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran.
Many Vatican observers see the restoration of the council as a sign of Benedict XVI’s desire to increase dialogue with other religions, most notably Islam. The council was previously absorbed into the Pontifical Council for Culture, but the Pope appears to have decided that this is not conducive to better dialogue.
Anybody know anything about this new guy?

To be a good Republican.....you got to believe:1. A women's right to chose is a sin. A corporation forcing her to have an abortion is just what Jesus would do.

These ones were among my favorites:
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are a fair measure of a colored person's ability to compete in a white man's world.
Note how many assumptions are lumped in there, the main one being that "colored" people (a term I thought was racist) are genuinely unable to compete with the "white man." Soft racism of low expectations.
16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton represents everything you're against.
I guess she doesn't represent the KosKids, so this means I should support her? Huh?
17. You have to believe that socialism is bad because it forces you to help people who won't help themselves.
No I believe socialism is bad because (1) as Hayek demonstrated, it is incompatible with human freedom, and (2) it has killed over 100 Million people.
19. You have to believe that homosexuals and transvestites should stay indoors, while manger scenes on government property at Christmas should not bother anyone, no matter what your religion.
Aside from the fact that I've never heard a conservative say the first one, Homosexuality and Transvestism are religions? Or are they different denominations?
I wonder what would happen to these folks if I gave them a copy of my old "Introduction to Logic"?

Gates of Vienna has posted the full translation of the opening of the video:
We declare:
Saint Hans’ [John the Baptist, LS] Eve has always celebrated the tradition of burning away the evil, in earlier times symbolized by the witch, who was supposedly directly connected to Satan. And if the witch was not burned then the harvest could not be safely brought into the house.
Now a new evil has arrived in Europe, an evil that lies and kills in the name of their so-called God. An evil that springs from the so-called Prophet Mohammed. Therefore, in our time, it is he who symbolizes evil and it is not just one harvest that will disappear, but all of Western Europe’s future that will vanish if this evil is not dispatched to Hekkenfeldt [i.e. Hell, literally the Hekla volcano in Iceland — BB].
Therefore will we burn the so-called Prophet Mohammed, on June 23, 2007, in three nameless places.
We burned Mohammed in three different places across the country. We now release the video from the first burning. The next videos will be released on July 23 and August 23.
For a Mohammed-free Denmark!

I think that, in honour of the holy prophet of the muslim faith, we should build a giant statue of Mohammed. Of course, if muslims didn't like it, they would be free to demolish it. As long as we got to watch.

Delighted and sad.
I am very happy to see the Danish people defend their culture and people hood.
I am sad because the road they have chosen leads us all to events that are not scripted.
The Islamic world fury on Friday prayers will see Rushdie lynched with a Danish flag.
What we are witnessing is very significant: it is the first digital war of the Internet age with dueling videos blasting back and forth across the net raising both sides t a fever pitch.
It is the beginning shot in the all out battle for Europe and it is the day when the Danish people will find a way to demonstrate that small nation states have a place in the new modern age or they will recede into the mists of history.

While I may sympathize with the sentiment, it does seem to me to be an uncomfortably similar course of action to what we see in the Muslim world whenever they choose to "demonstrate".
Burning of symbols, effigies, witches, flags, and more smacks of a primitive form of protest. What's next; burning books? Printouts from blogs?
Creating something is much better. Cartoons, for example.

I don't thik burning an efffigy of (anything or anyone) by Muslims REALLY ever "angers" us the way they think it does...at least, not as much as it would anger them. It's almost as if they consider the drawing as the real thing and worship the actual object itself.

The point is that it is based on a traditional ritual associated with a Christian holiday (Feast of St. John the Baptist). It is a ritual cleansing of the community of evil (see my posts 77 and 282 above) so it's not like book burning at all. In Denmark the whole thing takes on a very specific meaning because of the cultural reference.

No, not in the slightest.
It still bothers them a lot more than it would us.
It's funny, but in the Christian world there is a long tradition of "world turned upside-down" aspects to celebrations, where all sorts of blasphemies could be tolerated, even used to make social/political points. Such practices were also once common in the Muslim world, but sometime in the last 3 centuries the Muslims seem to have lost their sense of humor. Pity, really.

I thought the list was a joke made by a Republican because many of those on the list aeren't bad ideas at all. For example:
We have a problem with these? Sounds good to me, and I am not a very conservative guy.
To continue:
8. You have to believe that teachers who can't teach 4th-graders belong in public schools where children learn about sex from each other.
That doesn't even make sense. An editor may be needed for #8.
9. You have to believe that hunters care a lot about nature, otherwise there would be nothing to shoot, and environmentalists are a pain in the ass.
The hunters, the ones who actually make use of nature, live in nature, and value the environement versus poseurs from Oregon and/or San Francisco who spend their entire lives in the concrete jungle but see the environment on TV. I believe there is a clip of John Gibson (somewhere) taking a certain HufPo retard to task over this.
11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion Of The Christ and we should all be required to see it.
Never saw it, never was required, or even encouraged to see it by any single Christian person I know. I suspect this is another attempt by the juvenile left (17-21 age group) to manufacture opression. It's similiar to wearing the Che Guevara T-shirt - there is a certain romanticism to being opressed. Whether it is manufactured or not.
12. You have to believe the NRA is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is bad because it supports the Constitution.
hahahahahahaha. I would have to be severely retarded to even believethat one for a split second.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too high, and ATM fees are just right.
I had to write a check to the US Treasury for the first time in my life in 2006 though I was deployed in a combat zone for 5 of the previous 12 months. And I bank at USAA...they refund all my ATM fees, so, yeah, I'd have to agree with #13.
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are a fair measure of a colored person's ability to compete in a white man's world.
Colored Person? Ummm, 1932 called, they want your vernacular back. Sounds like something my grandmother would say, though she died 6 years ago at age 78.
16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton represents everything you're against.
17. You have to believe that socialism is bad because it forces you to help people who won't help themselves.
Check and check.
19. You have to believe that homosexuals and transvestites should stay indoors, while manger scenes on government property at Christmas should not bother anyone, no matter what your religion.
I'm Jewish and couldn't give less of a crap. I'm more fearful that the ACLU will raise a stink about my Menorah during Hanuakkah.
20. You have to believe that illegal Republican Party funding by corporate "donations" is somehow in the best interest to the United States.
I have no idea what this is supposed to be about, but I do know the Kos_Tards saw nothing wrong with Al Gore doing it.

"What exactly do they mean by a "Mohammad Free Denmark"?"
"Mohammad Free Denmark" in Danish is actually "Mohammad-free Denmark" and means something like "A Denmark free of Mohammad" or "A Denmark with no Mohammad in." - it does not mean "Let Mohammad free Denmark"

I'm actually a liberal in most ways... but Islam is a threat to the world and I'm trying to convince my fellow libs. I have won over quite a few. Just remember, the way to do is to not claim we hate America, hate the troops, etc. but rather with the truth: Islam is a threat to ALL of us.

Howdy to you too. Can't remember if we behaved nice or not last time.
Anyway, I do understand the distinction you make and one could name Guy Fawkes Day in the UK as another example. However these are specific traditions that have essentially lost the original political or religious meanings. Just an excuse to act up and booze up around a bonfire.
When you make it a political statement of the day it becomes another matter, and I simply think it looks too much like the morons in Pakistan and elsewhere. Not flattering to "us".
