British Islamic Association Leader Blames Salman Rushdie for Terror Attacks

Mon, Jul 2, 2007 at 9:43:18 am PDT

Iran’s Alalam News interviews the head of the “Britain Islamic Association” (a group I’m not familiar with, and couldn’t find on the web), who denies Muslims were involved in the terror attacks of the past few days, whines that they’re going to be unfairly targeted, then says that if Muslims did commit the attacks (nudge nudge, wink wink) Salman Rushdie is to blame: UK Muslims Facing More Threats. (Warning: the link goes to an Iranian site, and they often contain viruses or other malware.)

It’s the Islamic trifecta—denial, whining, and veiled threats.

LONDON, July 1—Head of Britain Islamic Association said here on Sunday that the situation of Muslims in Britain would be deteriorated in results of finding several bombs in two suspected cars which were to target the Glasgow airport.

In an exclusive interview with Alalam, Al-Sayyed Farjani said while Britain Muslims are strongly condemning the terrorist attacks, unfortunately there are always charges against the Muslims accusing them of involving in these attacks.

Referring to the vital role of Muslims in fighting against terrorism and extremism as well as encountering with violence against the innocent people in Britain, the official said while no group has claimed the responsibility of bombings yet; some extremist parties are trying to accuse the Muslims.

Farjani also strongly condemned the knighthood conferred on Salman Rushdie, adding this odious behavior could have be a main factor in preparing the ground for the youth to join terrorist groups.

Naturally, it's Salman's fault. He's the scape goat du jour.

Man, this is one bad day for Salman. First the usual suspects blame him for the terror attacks, and then his wife decides to file for divorce. Ouch.

"The Islamic trifecta" makes me think of the young boys forced to be jockeys in Saudi Arabia. Probably due to Rushdie, also.

OT:

WASHINGTON - A mechanical monster grabs the F-14 fighter jet and chews through one wing and then another, ripping off the Tomcat's appendages before moving onto its guts. Finally, all that's left is a pile of shredded rubble — like the scraps from a Thanksgiving turkey.

The Pentagon is paying a contractor at least $900,000 to destroy old F-14s, a jet affectionately nicknamed "the turkey," rather than sell the spares at the risk of their falling into the wrong hands, including Iran's.

heh.

No Al-Sayyad, it's your and the founder of your religion's "odious behavior" that is responsible.

I love how they deny that Muslims could be involved, then in the very next utterance, blame the victim for "making them do it". Islamic Doublethink in action.

In an exclusive interview with Alalam, Al-Sayyed Farjani said while Britain Muslims are strongly condemning the terrorist attacks, unfortunately there are always charges against the Muslims accusing them of involving in these attacks.

What are you saying there? That the charges are unwarranted? Muslims are committing these acts.

And they'll keep on doing it until you put your foot down and stamp out the Islamists in your midst or else the governments of the countries where you live will do it for you - and it wont be pretty for anyone.

This is probably a big reason:

Investigators also found some sensitive items accidentally slipping into surplus auctions rather than being destroyed as they were supposed to be. In an unusual move when dealing with retired aircraft, the Pentagon is trying to shut off all avenues for Iran's parts purchasers by demolishing the F-14s, then combing through the scraps to make sure nothing useful remains.

Can't trust to gov't to monitor it's own sensitive materials.

Personally, I'm worried about the potential backlash against doctors. The UK's leaders need to come out with a statement reassuring the populace that most doctors are good citizens and these are only a tiny minority. And police or troops should probably be sent out to guard the hospitals and medical schools.

What, the populace never suspected the terror connection with doctors? Wonder why they always do with religion?

I didn't mean to turn this into an an F-14 thread, bud Boyd just plain hates the Navy. Boyd may be a genius, but he knows he is and his ego gets in the way of his thought process.

Boyd is of the "small dogfighter" school, the designers of the F-14 are of the "speed is life" school.

I think you need both, personally. We now have an Air Superiority hole in our inventory that we haven't been able to fill. The F-14 also had a large Ground Attack capability that was never really used - massive payload (at least the F-14D).

Besides, at LEAST give me an F-14 airframe - it was the most beautiful plane the government every ordered.

You flow along in the current with the other turds, helpless in life, driven by fate to be eaten alive by the microbes of other's thoughts or actions. Everything just happens to YOU! So line up Muslims, wait for the cosmic flush that is surely coming.

You flow along in the current with the other turds, helpless in life, driven by fate to be eaten alive by the microbes of other's thoughts or actions. Everything just happens to YOU! So line up Muslims, wait for the cosmic flush that is surely coming.

It is the will of allah. Why they never get mad at allah and blame him, I don't know, but they cetainly cling to their islamic fatalism and proclaim it when it suits them.

Speaking of Salman Rushdie:

The latest furor over the knighthood so terrified Rushdie's wife that she has asked him for a divorce (probably out of fear for her life:

"Salman Rushdie has agreed to divorce his wife, Padma Lakshmi, because of her desire to end their marriage," Mr Rushdie's spokeswoman Jin Auh said in a statement, Reuters news agency reports.

"He asks that the media respect his privacy at this difficult time."

Yes, that really is his wife, as this photo proves.

Britain is hopeless. Check out the many reader's
comments from Britain on the NY Times website, or listen to the BBC coverage.

The main theme is worry and concern over an anti-Muslim backlash- the one that will never come. Ever. Regardless of how much terrorism they do and how egregiously they threaten the native Brits.

OTOH, I think of the reports in the airport of people saying "Let him burn". But I won't be convinced of a turning point until some mob actually lynches the terrorists.

In an exclusive interview with Alalam, Al-Sayyed Farjani said while Britain Muslims are strongly condemning the terrorist attacks, unfortunately there are always charges against the Muslims accusing them of involving in these attacks.

There's damn good reason to beleive they're muslims.

In Texas we really do pull off the road and stop for funerals...nobody moves until the last car has gone by.

What follows is a message from Vicki Pierce about her nephew James' funeral (he was serving our country in Iraq):

"I'm back, it was certainly a quick trip, but I have to also say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. There is a lot to be said for growing up in a small town in Texas . The service itself was impressive with wonderful flowers and sprays, a portrait of James, his uniform and boots, his awards and ribbons. There was lots of military brass and an eloquent (though inappropriately longwinded) Baptist preacher. There were easily 1000 people at the service, filling the church sanctuary as well as the fellowship hall and spilling out into the parking lot.
However, the most incredible thing was what happened following the service on the way to the cemetery. We went to our cars and drove to the cemetery escorted by at least 10 police cars with lights flashing and some other emergency vehicles, with Texas Rangers handling traffic. Everyone on the road who was not in the procession, pulled over, got out of their cars, and stood silently and respectfully, some put their hands over their hearts.
When we turned off the highway suddenly there were teenage boys along both sides of the street about every 20 feet or so, all holding large American flags on long flag poles, and again wi th their hands on their hearts. We thought at first it was the Boy Scouts or 4H club or something, but it continued .. for two and a half miles. Hundreds of young people, standing silently on the side of the road with flags. At one point we passed an elementary school, and all the children were outside, shoulder to shoulder holding flags kindergartners, handicapped, teachers, staff, everyone. Some held signs of love and support. Then came teenage girls and younger boys, all holding flags. Then adults. Then families. All standing silently on the side of the road. No one spoke, not even the very young children.
The military presence , at least two generals, a fist full of colonels, and representatives from every branch of the service, plus the color guard who attended James, and some who served with him . was very impressive and respectful, but the love and pride from this community who had lost one of their own was the most amazing thing I've ever been privileged to witness.

Here's the explanation for the scar on her arm:

Can a terrible scar suddenly become a thing of beauty?
It depends, discovers Padma Lakshmi, on who's looking at it.

The accident happened on a Sunday afternoon filled with sunshine. I was fourteen years old and on my way back with my parents from a Hindu temple in Malibu. ...(horrific car accident)... I finally passed out. When Iwoke up hours later, I had tubes coming out of several places in my body. My right arm had been shattered and my right hip had been fractured. After surgery, I regained the use of both of them but was left with a long scar on my arm. It was half an inch wide and seven inches long.

The F-35 is a fine replacement for the Harrier. Tomcat? Not so much.

I wonder where all the F-14 hatred came from all the sudden. Must be a bunch of Air Force guys in here. :)

The way I figure it, if they could mount a Phoenix on an F-18, at least that would sort of fill the hole in the Navy's air cover.

When we lost the F-14, we lost the "Simply Empty The Sky Of Enemy Aircraft Before They See You" role.

I've also tried to read "The Satanic Verses" and couldn't get past chapter one. IMO, its just unreadable, and I'm not the only one who's said that.

Not to take away anything from what he's been through, but with due respect, nobody believes Rushdie is a "literary genius".

In fact, by his own admission he's said he had never won any sort of literary award prior to "The Satanic verses. As far as I know, he hasn't written anything lauded since then either.

Not that he doesn't have anything to say (he most certainly does), but objectively, his entire career (unfortunately) was made as a scapegoat for the Khomeinist regime. If it weren't for the death Fatwa, more likely than not, nobody ever would have heard of him or the Satanic Verses.

I'm an aircraft freak, but I've never liked Top Gun. I prefer corny '50s movies like Strategic Air Command starring Jimmy Stewart and the homewrecker June Allyson (it was filmed partly at Carswell over in Fort Worth, plus I love the B-36, even if it was a flop) and Bombers B-52 with Karl Malden.

165 Dianna  Mon, Jul 2, 2007 10:47:45am

Hey, I did actually read The Satanic Verses! It's not an easy read, or to my normal taste, but people who understand satire (I really don't) say it's funny, and I thought some of the prose was rather lovely.

Though that "layered" kind of writing just makes me long for transparent third-person naration; I admit to wanting the story to move along, and liking movies where things blow up.

I am, I fear, a terribly unsophisticated sort.

Since the thread has veered way off topic, figured I’d throw this out there. The good old ‘prayer in school’ debate has reached San Diego, now with a Religion Of Peace ™ twist.

Muslim prayers in school debated
S.D. elementary at center of dispute
By Helen Gao

A San Diego public school has become part of a national debate over religion in schools ever since a substitute teacher publicly condemned an Arabic language program that gives Muslim students time for prayer during school hours.
Carver Elementary in Oak Park added Arabic to its curriculum in September when it suddenly absorbed more than 100 students from a defunct charter school that had served mostly Somali Muslims.
After subbing at Carver, the teacher claimed that religious indoctrination was taking place and said that a school aide had led Muslim students in prayer.
An investigation by the San Diego Unified School District failed to substantiate the allegations. But critics continue to assail Carver for providing a 15-minute break in the classroom each afternoon to accommodate Muslim students who wish to pray. (Those who don't pray can read or write during that non-instructional time.)
Some say the arrangement at Carver constitutes special treatment for a specific religion that is not extended to other faiths. Others believe it crosses the line into endorsement of religion.
Supporters of Carver say such an accommodation is legal, if not mandatory, under the law. They note the district and others have been sued for not accommodating religious needs on the same level as non-religious needs, such as a medical appointment.
Islam requires its adherents to pray at prescribed times, one of which falls during the school day.
While some parents say they care more about their children's education than a debate about religious freedom, the allegations – made at a school board meeting in April – have made Carver the subject of heated discussions on conservative talk radio. District officials have been besieged by letters and phone calls, some laced with invective.
The issue has drawn the attention of national groups concerned about civil rights and religious liberty. The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Anti-Defamation League, American Civil Liberties Union and the Pacific Justice Institute are some of the groups monitoring developments in California's second-largest school district.
Among the critics is Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel with the nonprofit, Michigan-based Thomas More Law Center devoted to “defending the religious freedom of Christians.”
He said he's “against double standards being used,” such as when there is a specific period for Muslim students to pray and not a similar arrangement for Christians.
Carver's supporters noted that Christianity and other religions, unlike Islam, do not require their followers to pray at specific times that fall within school hours, when children by law must be in school. Amid the controversy, the district is studying alternatives to the break to accommodate student prayer
Capitalizing on what it considers a precedent-setting opportunity created by the Carver situation, the Sacramento-based Pacific Justice Institute has offered to help craft a districtwide “Daily Prayer Time Policy.”
In a letter, the religious-rights organization urged the district to broaden its accommodations to Christians and Jews by setting aside separate classrooms for daily prayer and to permit rabbis, priests and other religious figures to lead children in worship on campuses.
A lawyer representing the district said those ideas would violate the Constitution's prohibition against government establishment of religion.
The uproar over Carver comes as schools across the country grapple with how to accommodate growing Muslim populations. In recent weeks, the University of Michigan's Dearborn campus has been divided over using student fees to install foot-washing stations on campus to make it easier for Muslim students to cleanse themselves before prayer.

I've got a history of the Strategic Air Command at home, it was self published by a retired Boeing engineer. It goes through chronologically SAC it's planes and missions. Not exiting but very informative. It was only available at the Boeing store and the Seattle Museum of Flight and is now out of print and I can't find it on the web.

When I get home I send you the info on the book, but a must have you if you've like me.

Last seek or so we had a B-17, B-24 and B-25 hanging around Seattle the -17 flew right over my house at about 1500 feet, you could here it coming, nothing sounds like 4 big radials in sync. I start yelling grabbing the boys to run outside and my wife is thinking I completely lost my mind.

Iran must be destroyed (0 / 0)

Iran's president has said bad things about Israel, therefore Iran must be destroyed. I'm convinced that one of the main reasons Saddam had to be removed was that he dared to launch missiles at Israel during the first Iraq war.

To Lieberman and the rest of the Israel lobby (which includes evangelical nutballs like W who have all too much influence on our foreign policy), it's quite simple. All enemies of Israel must be destroyed. God demands it. Therefore lying to the American public is OK, as it's all part of God's plan.

Lieberman is an AIPAC shill (0 / 0)

Lieberman formerly a Democrat and now an Independent representing the state of Israel in the US Senate should be recalled by the voters he is failing to represent. He is now calling for more surveillance camreras to be used in the US. He is a danger to liberty here and a force against peace in the world. Like it or not the rising star on the American political scene is Ron Paul. He is a major threat to the MSM and the PTB's. His message of peace and prosperity is trumping the rest of the field's message of never ending war and poverty. The only two Dem candidates not already bought and paid for by AIPAC are Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.

The volleyball scene. Completely gratuitous, doing nothing at all to further the plot. Several minutes of Maverick (Tom Cruise), Iceman (Val Kilmer), Goose (Anthony Edwards) and Slider (Rick Rossovich) playing sand volleyball while Kenny Loggins sings about playing with the boys. It's kind of gay. And very hot.

If Ice, Slider, Goose, and Maverick had been munching on sausages and rubbing each other down with oil, you'd have a stronger case. Top Gun was pretty much gratuitous all the way around. Not much of a discernible plot to be found anywhere in that movie. Just lots of loud noises and cool cinematography.

Apache pilots evacuate critically-wounded Soldier, kill several extremists in Ramadi firefight
Staff Sgt. Lorin T. Smith
36th Combat Aviation Brigade Public Affairs Office

LSA ANACONDA, Iraq – Apache pilots from Company B, 1st Battalion, 149th Aviation Regiment (Attack), 36th Combat Aviation Brigade and Company A, 2nd Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, engaged extremists and saved a critically-wounded Soldier’s life during a firefight in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on June 30, 2007.

Two attack weapons teams (with two AH-64 helicopters making up a team) flew to Ramadi in support of Coalition Forces in search of insurgents and weapons caches.

The teams reached Ramadi and received notice that Coalition Forces were taking heavy small arms fire. To maximize the helicopters’ time over a potential target, one team immediately went to the Ramadi forward arming and refueling point and the other attack weapons team flew into the fight.

They engaged extremists with 30 millimeter cannon fire neutralizing them. The team then supported other Coalition Forces engaging extremists using two tractor trailers as cover. The crew took small arms fire and multiple enemy rounds to their aircraft.

Despite the small arms fire, the attack weapons team destroyed the tractor trailers, causing secondary explosions, indicating to the crew that the trailers were possibly used as vehicle-born improvised explosive devices.

The crew stayed on station with the Coalition Forces until fuel levels became low, and returned to the FARP to refuel. Due to battle damage sustained, the Apache team performed a battle handoff to the second attack weapons team and flew back to LSA Anaconda.

The second team entered the engagement area in Ramadi. Coalition Forces were still taking heavy enemy fire. The attack weapons team shot hundreds of cannon rounds and rockets, expending their ammunition. As the team returned to the FARP to rearm and refuel, the ground forces commander informed the crews that he was coordinating a medical evacuation of wounded Soldiers including one critically-wounded.

Approximately 40 minutes later, after rearming and refueling, the team went back to the area and learned that the MEDEVAC aircraft had not arrived. Due to the critically-wounded Soldier and despite continued enemy activity, the Company B aviators landed and extracted the critically-wounded casualty with the Apache helicopter. While the Company A crew provided overhead security, the Company B crew landed within two kilometers of the enemy position.

Upon landing, the co-pilot/gunner helped load the injured Soldier into the front seat without further injury. Despite the heavy small arms fire and surface-to-air fire events in the area, the co-pilot/gunner strapped himself onto the left side of the aircraft and hunkered down on the wing. The pilot flew to Camp Ar Ramadi medical pad, where emergency medical personnel provided treatment. The team went back to the fight and continued to provide support for Coalition Forces. Upon neutralizing the extremists, the crew returned to LSA Anaconda.

Due to the extent of the battle damage, one extremist was confirmed killed in action, but multiple extremists were killed in conjunction with ground forces. The wounded Soldier has been transferred to LSA Anaconda and is in stable condition.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Allen Crist and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Kevin Purtee, Company B, 1st Battalion, 149th Aviation Regiment (Attack), 36th Combat Aviation Brigade, checks on the medical condition of Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine, Company C, 1st Battalion, 77th Armor, after an unusual Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on June 30, 2007. (U.S. Army photos by Maj. Gregory T. O’Connor)
