-RetweetUN 'Peacekeepers' Hit By Bomb in Lebanon

Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 8:45:55 am PDT

Hizballah is rearming and planting roadside bombs right under the noses of the clueless, powerless United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, and today one of the bombs went off: Bomb hits U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon.

BEIRUT, Lebanon AP) — A roadside bomb planted in Lebanon’s coastal south exploded Monday near a U.N. post as a peacekeeping vehicle drove past, the second attack targeting the force in less than a month. No one was hurt.

The bomb struck the U.N. jeep as it drove through a village near the southern port city of Tyre, according to a statement from the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon, known as UNIFIL.

A U.N. official at the site of the explosion said the bomb was planted near a bridge on the road to Qassimiyeh. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation television showed Lebanese troops directing traffic and searching the blast scene for evidence.

“We can confirm that a small explosion occurred in the area of the Qassmiyeh bridge, involving one UNIFIL military police vehicle,” Yasmina Bouziane, a spokeswoan for the U.N. force, said in a statement. “No casualties have been reported. Only damage to the vehicle.”

The phrase "You reap what you sow" comes to my mind on this one. I guess the morons at the U.N. thought as long as they turned a blind eye to Hizballah's rearming that they would be immune to the consequences. I'm wouldn't be happy about the loss of human life, but maybe when Hizballah starts filling body bags with UNIFIL personnel, they wake up to the fact that these blood thirsty bastards hate all non-muslims and intend to clear the earth of anyone who doesn't convert to the pedophiles religion.

39 MJ  Mon, Jul 16, 2007 9:01:00am

I have to disagree with Charles.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon may be "powerless"
but they are not "clueless". They just don't give a damn if Hizb'allah is rearming for another war with Israel.

I just don't want to see and blue helmets killed by Israel. It'd muddy the waters and provoke cries of "disproportionate response."

But, those cries will come no matter what Israel does. Israel could get nuked but would be blamed for striking back with the same.

Hezziebolla is just setting traps for Israel and this was a work accident.
Or was it a training exercise to see how the UN reacts? Or was it a warning to the UN? Or was it a warning to innocent civilians?

42 Ed Mahmoud's Sock Puppet  Mon, Jul 16, 2007 9:03:20am

Hmmm. My parish priest actually did a compare and contrast of the Christian God and Allah at Mass yesterday. Noted that we also believe God is Great, but they don't seem to have the whole Christian "God is Love" thing down at all.

It sort of fit with yesterday's Gospel from Luke Chapter 10:

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?"

He said in reply, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." He replied to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you will live."

But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

Jesus replied, "A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.

A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, 'Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.'

Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers' victim?"

He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

BTW, our priest noted that the priest and Levite weren't neccessarily being completely heartless, just that if the victim were dead and they touched him, they would be ritually unclean and unable to enter the Temple for a certain period of time. Note also, as seen in other Gospel passages, that the Jews and Samaritans had some major differences withe ach other and didn't view each other highly.

I believe that Ben Hur noted that the very similar (from Mark's Gospel, Chapter 12) Christian version of the "Golden Rule" has some definite Jewish antecedent, from the Scripture and Hillel, which shouldn't really be a surprise.

One of the scribes, when he came forward and heard them disputing and saw how well he had answered them, asked him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?"

Jesus replied, "The first is this: 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone!

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'

The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than he.' And 'to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

And when Jesus saw that (he) answered with understanding, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."

A U.N. official at the site of the explosion said the bomb was planted near a bridge on the road to Qassimiyeh. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Funny, AP typically uses this standard disclaimer when they're quoting someone in the governments of Iran, North Korea... you know, places where speaking to the media could get you, like, thrown in the woodchipper.

Ironic, since how many U.N. officials do you suppose were there at the site of this bomb that it would be so difficult to figure out who talked.

I hope you don't mean engaged in the same sense as those Dutch Troops during the siege of Srebrenica where they stood by and let all sorts of crazy atrocities happen, or the Belgian paras who got hacked up in Rwanda. How the hell can a group of paras fully armed with automatic weapons and explosives allow themselves to get hacked up by a group of cannibals with machetes?

55 abolitionist  Mon, Jul 16, 2007 9:20:26am

From the link,

Security officials in southern Lebanon said two Tanzanian peacekeepers parked their jeep on the coastal road near the Qassimiyeh bridge to monitor the speed of U.N. vehicles in southern Lebanon.

Minutes after the two soldiers stepped out of the jeep, the
bomb exploded, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Monitoring the speed of U.N. vehicles began after four members of a Lebanese family, including two children, were killed in southern Lebanon on July 3 when a U.N. water truck lost control and rammed into their car. The incident enraged locals who demanded U.N. troops stop driving at high speeds.

What does the UN do again? I forgot...

Oh yeah. Absolutely nothing but cause trouble.

Only in the UN would "Peacekeepers" be those who do nothing but make themselves targets.

What could those people be thinking when they go out, knowing they have little power or "permission" to fight back.

71 El matamoros  Mon, Jul 16, 2007 10:20:03am

LEt mw propose three theories. Two will be from a sane perspective and one from a leftist-islamist perspective.
#1 The Hezbullah is doing this on purpose, the attack was well planned out. Their reason for this is clear. They want to drive MOST of the UN peace keepers OUT of the Litani valley, This will allow them to continue to attack Israel and launch rockets, eventually precititating another attack by Israel so the Leftists of the world can cry, and the Islamists have something to do besides seethe. Without their ability to attack Israel, Hezbullah is a lost.

#2 Hezbullah is doing this in preperation for the next Israeli attack. They are planting bombs and rocket launchers all over South Lebanon so they can attack Israel when the time comes, however in this case the bomb accidently went off when the UN jeep went over it.

#3 (This is the Arab street theory) This is the work of Mossad. They did this to make Hezbullah look bad! ;) They are doing it so that the UN will leave so that they can Again reoccupy Lebanon. Cuase when they originally left in 2000 it was all a false flag operation to lull the peaceful Muslims into a sense of false security.

I think this is a signal to the UN to withdraw their peacekeepers. Hezbollah is now fully rearmed and ready to go up against Israel again. Having the UN forces in the crossfire when they start lobbing missiles at Israel would keep them from getting close enough to kidnap Israeli soldiers.
