NYT Bias Graphically Illustrated

Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 11:31:44 am PDT

Someone at the New York Times contributed the following edit to the Wikipedia page for “George W. Bush:” Wikipedia scanner results.

UPDATE at 8/14/07 11:50:54 am:

Just to verify, here’s a WHOIS lookup on the IP: 199.181.174.146.

UPDATE at 8/14/07 2:44:37 pm:

Auspundits has another gem of an edit, also by someone at the New York Times, in which they changed a description of Tom Delay from “a prominent member of the Republican Party” to “a Grand Dragon of the Republican Party.”

UPDATE at 8/14/07 2:47:27 pm:

Someone at the New York Times has also been editing the Wall Street Journal’s Wikipedia page: Riehl World View: New York Times Editing WSJ’s Wiki?

UPDATE at 8/14/07 2:53:03 pm:

Allahpundit discovered a Democratic Party IP that was apparently used to vandalize a page about Rush Limbaugh.

The Vulcans is a nickname used to refer to Presidential candidate George W. Bush's neoconservative foreign policy advisory team assembled to brief him prior to the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election. The Vulcans were Paul Wolfowitz, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Richard Perle and others. After the election, the Vulcans were all placed in powerful positions within the Bush Administration.

OT, linkage: two links from Stalinist website Common Dreams:

From the "Don't question their patriotism" department: The Cult of 9/11, by Paul Campos. Excerpties:

[...] in the keen disappointment that ripples throughout the right-wing blogosphere every time the collapse of a bridge or a steam pipe explosion turns out not to have been the work of Scary Brown People Who Hate Our Freedoms [...]

Trust the Leftscum to turn everything into a race issue.

First, in the weeks immediately following 9/11, a lot of people said and did a great many ridiculous things. [...]

Yes, you can find a lot of those ridiculous things in the archives of Common Dreams, where you see how, right after 9/11, lefty writers issued calls for appeasement of the Muslims from the get-go.

Second link: Crisis, by the Attn-Whore herself. In case you're wondering why I should care what Cindy Shaheen says--I'm bringing this as a documentation of her anti-Israel sentiment:

However, emergency CPR needs to flow to Jordan and Syria immediately to help the Iraqi people and the two mentioned countries. Significantly, both countries also have vast populations of Palestinian refugees that has now become a generational problem. Solving the problems in Israel will help the Palestinian refugees who want the right of return to their homes as well as help solving our own "terrorism" problem at home. This is also an issue that needs to be pressed and exposed back in the states. [Emphasis mine. --ZY]

Remember when she said, "You'll get the US out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and then we'll have peace!" Now we can see, despite her denials, that she hasn't changed that stance.

In case it isn't clear to our lefty friends: calling for application of the "Palestinian Right of Return" is inherently anti-Jewish, because it would mean the destruction of the only Jewish state in the world (God forbid). Whenever I learn of somebody that he supports the ROR, I file him either in the "Nazi" (if Muslim) or in the "Nazi-sympathizer" (if non-Muslim) rubric.

Woahhhhhh Someone from the NY TIMES is editing hezbollah stuff and Islam online stuff

[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

I found concern reading the daily star quote in reference 75, and so followed this reference to a supposed article posted on a third party site. I had no reason to question the contents of this article, however reference 76 makes claims which are currently not verifiable by the reference link. If somebody could kindly research this, as I will attempt to do myself as well, it would be appreciated. I think this particular quote is important to the understanding of the Hezzbollah ideology, especially in that it seemingly contradicts the well documented notion of theirs that they are executing defensive Jihad. Please help me shed some light on this topic.

[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

old

an earlier similar case, in late 2001 ”Times” reporters (including Judith Miller (journalist) Judith Miller] learned that federal agents would soon raid the Holyland Relief Foundation and the Global Relief Foundation freeze their assets. The two foundations were noted conduits for funding various Arab terrorist organizations operating in Israel. Despite the obvious sensitivity of this information, the ”Times” first tipped off the foundations that they were soon to be raided and impounded, then published articles with this information. Naturally, when the federal agents arrived the next day, much important information had already been obscured. A grand jury was convened to consider an indictment against the leakers. When the grand jury called upon the ”Times” to reveal its sources, the ”Times” refused to do so. After many letters were exchanged debating the issue, the ”Times” received a declaratory judgment prohibiting the grand jury from subpoenaing the ”Times” phone records. That decision was recently [allowing the government to obtain the records.

new

an earlier similar case, in late 2001 Times reporters (including Judith Miller) were leaked information about government actions against the Holy Land Foundation and the Global Relief Foundation, two Islamic Charities suspected of funding terrorist organizations. In the course of their reporting, The Times reporters sought comment from the charities; the government had already frozen the assets of other similar charities, and the fact that additional government action was about to be taken had been widely reported. A grand jury was convened in Illinois to consider an indictment against the leakers. The Times did not cooperate with the prosecutor’s request for the reporters to identify their confidential sources. When the government said it would subpoena the telephone companies for the phone records of the reporters to help identify their sources, The Times sought an injunction preventing the prosecutor from obtaining and reviewing the records. The Federal District Court in New York agreed with The Times on the basis of a First Amendment and common law reporters’ privilege, and barred the government from seeing the records. However, that decision was recently reversed by the U.S. Court of Appeals, allowing the government to obtain the records.

This is the kind of insightful commentary that having professional editors can produce. Those of us amatures who lack such oversight respond with:

Much more insightful, don't you think?

:-)

It certainly is pithy.

story changed from:

The two foundations were noted conduits for funding various Arab terrorist organizations operating in Israel. Despite the obvious sensitivity of this information, the ”Times” first tipped off the foundations that they were soon to be raided and impounded, then published articles with this information.

to:

The Times reporters sought comment from the charities; the government had already frozen the assets of other similar charities, and the fact that additional government action was about to be taken had been widely reported.

Interesting change. I've been under the impression all this time that the first version is the more accurate one.

Yvonne Ridley Coming to Canada to Speak

Barbara Kay: Coming to a city near you: Radical Islam supporter Yvonne Ridley
Guess who’s coming to dinner in Toronto and Montreal this September?

You may remember the name Yvonne Ridley. She was the journalist captured by the Taliban in 2001. A textbook case of Stockholm Syndrome, she converted to Islam and took up the cause of her captors. Now a talking head on the Islam Channel in England, where she is responsible for political issues, she is also a founder and frequent candidate for the Respect Party (the political party of choice for fundamentalist Muslims, and terrorist-supporting left wing political scoundrels like George Galloway).

Ridley supports radical Islam’s objectives and its spokespeople (she has stated, for example, that Abu Hamza al-Masri, the infamously radical and openly jihadist Finsbury Park Mosque imam is “quite sweet really” and has designated as “martyrs” such monsters as Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and Chechan devil Shamil Basayev, who perpetrated the horrific Beslan school massacre), and to this day defends the Taliban in Afghanistan, where Canadian soldiers are risking (and losing) life and limb to defeat them.

Ridley has also recently become the London correspondent for a new TV channel created by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – Press TV – which, according to Ridley, offers “a different perspective than that of conventional media.” (On its Internet site there is a section, “Analyses,” where one can find insinuations that the British government orchestrated the recent car bomb attacks on London and Glasgow in order to tarnish the image of Muslims in Great Britain.)

And yet, at the invitation of the Islamic Congress of Canada, Yvonne Ridley is being brought this September to our shores as a guest speaker. A petition is presently making the rounds in Quebec, demanding that the Islamic Congress of Canada disassociate itself from Yvonne Ridley and her odious connections and words, and, in addition, make clear to the Canadian public the Congress’ refusal to offer any support, direct or indirect, to Islamist terrorism. If you would like more information about Yvonne Ridley or about this petition, please contact redaction@egards.qc.ca.

Couple dissolves marriage after wife embraces Islam

By M. MAGESWARI

PETALING JAYA: A teacher and a hotel manager became the first couple in the country to dissolve their marriage amicably through the Syariah lower court after she embraced Islam.

Today, Aishah Sandhera Abdullah @ Sandhera Debbie Kimbi, 27, from Sibu, Sarawak, applied to the Syariah lower court here to dissolve her marriage because of the change of religion.

She made her application under Section 46(2) of the Islamic Family Law Enactment (Selangor) 2003.

The court granted the application to dissolve the marriage.

In confirming the dissolution of the marriage for her, Syariah court judge Ghazali Ahmad praised the couple for settling the matter good-naturedly.

According to the statement of claim, Aishah, who is the plaintiff, had married Reynolds Chua Guan Teck, 28, on May 5, 2004.

The marriage was registered under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 as both were Christians during the period. The couple has no children.

Aishah converted to Islam on Feb 2 while the defendant was still a Christian.

The couple then could not live together under Islamic law because of the difference in religions.

She filed the summons and statement of claim on Aug 1 for the dissolution of the marriage.

The defendant had filed a divorce petition on July 20 at the Shah Alam High Court (civil) under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act.

The Shah Alam Court has not set a date to hear the divorce matter.

Speaking to reporters later, Aishah's lawyer Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar said the case set a precedent for couples to dissolve their marriages amicably when one party converts to Islam.

He said such settlements should be encouraged as it resulted in a win-win situation for both.

Earlier, Aishah informed Ghazali that she would attend the divorce case proceeding for Chua at the Shah Alam High Court.

How Not To Get Out Of Iraq
by Max Boot

Excerpt:

If none of these strategies holds out a serious hope of success, what, then, does? Time and again in Iraq, we have seen that substantial ground forces, if properly employed, can indeed rout terrorists. Consider the success of offensives since 2004 in Falluja, Najaf, Tal Afar, Qaim, Hit, Ramadi, and Baquba. In the past, the problem with many of these operations was that we lacked enough troops to sustain a long-term presence after taking the city. Now, as a combined result of the surge, greater cooperation from Iraqi tribes, and more effective Iraqi fighting forces, we may finally have gathered enough strength to execute, at least in some critical locales, all phases of the “clear, hold, and build” approach that is at the heart of successful counterinsurgency warfare.

It would be extremely short-sighted if, as a result of war-weariness, we were to abort this classic strategy before it has had a chance to be fully implemented. As I noted at the outset, early signs have been positive: U.S. and Iraqi troops have been reducing violence in Baghdad and surrounding areas. In late July, returning from an eight-day visit to the front lines, Kenneth Pollack and his Brookings colleague Michael O’Hanlon, both of whom have been harshly critical of the administration’s “miserable handling of Iraq,” reported in a widely cited New York Times op-ed that they were “surprised by the gains” being made. “We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms,” they wrote.

Wow. Has anyone looked at how the NYT edited entries on itself? (revision 70278386)

Look at their revision to discussion of Judith Miller alerting the Holy Land Foundation to their imminent raid:

old version:

In an earlier similar case, in late 2001 Times reporters (including Judith Miller) learned that federal agents would soon raid the Holyland Relief Foundation and the Global Relief Foundation freeze their assets. The two foundations were noted conduits for funding various Arab terrorist organizations operating in Israel. Naturally, when the federal agents arrived the next day, much important information had already been obscured. A grand jury was convened to consider an indictment against the leakers. When the grand jury called upon the Times to reveal its sources, the Times refused to do so. After many letters were exchanged debating the issue, the Times received a declaratory judgment prohibiting the grand jury from subpoenaing the Times phone records. That decision was recently [[Link: 10.213.23.111:8080...] reversed], allowing the government to obtain the records.

the NYT's changed version:

In an earlier similar case, in late 2001 Times reporters (including Judith Miller) were leaked information about government actions against the Holy Land Foundation and the Global Relief Foundation, two Islamic Charities suspected of funding terrorist organizations. In the course of their reporting, The Times reporters sought comment from the charities; the government had already frozen the assets of other similar charities, and the fact that additional government action was about to be taken had been widely reported. Good choice. Wikipedia is not an original encyclopedia (they don't even try to be), they are more of a collection of student essays on particular topics.

I found that wikipedia has some essays with great sourcing, and helps a lot if you are trying to find original research articles.

So, do the Devils move out of the swamp and into lovely downtown Newark this year? Or is that 'next year'?

This year.

newjerseydevils.com – Consider it one of the last times these seats will be empty.

As Prudential Center construction continues to gather momentum, work began Thursday on the installation of the seats that will hold thousands of Devils fans this October.

Prudential Center will be the site of New Jersey's 2007-08 regular season home opener on Saturday, Oct, 27, just two days after rockers Bon Jovi perform the first-ever event at the brand-new, state-of-the-art venue.

From the Club Level to the Upper Ends, each of the 17,625 seats will have sight lines unlike any others in the National Hockey League.

Fans will have spectacular views of the ice surface, LED video ribbon boards, and eight-sided video scoreboard.

Comfort was a top priority for the wider seats, which also will feature extra knee and leg room.

Sounds like a nice place to see a hockey game.

:)

Barring a collapse, I think they'll both wind up in the playoffs, though you may regret getting Eric Gagne. I think he's finished, but we'll see.

Don't know if you've seen Joba Chamberlain yet, but he's the new 8th inning setup man, though limited in innings since he's been rushed up.

His first Stadium appearance last night and the fans were already doing "Jo-ba Jo-ba" chants. Three or four appearances and he's a cult hero, which tells you long it's been since they had a reliable brindge to Mariano.

He's got lights out stuff, hit 99 on the radar last night with his fastball and has a wicked slider. You'll probably see him in two weeks.

The first family to die was the Rafalyks — father, mother and a child. Later on the Fediy family of five also perished of starvation. Then followed the families of Prokhar Lytvyn (four persons), Fedir Hontowy (three persons), Samson Fediy (three persons). The second child of the latter family was beaten to death on somebody's onion patch. Mykola and Larion Fediy died, followed by Andrew Fediy and his wife; Stefan Fediy; Anton Fediy, his wife and four children (his two other little girls survived); Boris Fediy, his wife and three children: Olanviy Fediy and his wife; Taras Fediy and his wife; Theodore Fesenko; Constantine Fesenko; Melania Fediy; Lawrenty Fediy; Peter Fediy; Eulysis Fediy and his brother Fred; Isidore Fediy, his wife and two children; Ivan Hontowy, his wife and two children; Vasyl Perch, his wife and child; Makar Fediy; Prokip Fesenko: Abraham Fediy; Ivan Skaska, his wife and eight children.

Some of these people were buried in a cemetery plot; others were left lying wherever they died. For instance, Elizabeth Lukashenko died on the meadow; her remains were eaten by ravens. Others were simply dumped into any handy excavation. The remains of Lawrenty Fediy lay on the hearth of his dwelling until devoured by rats.*

Just like the entry on Tom Brady is missing the fact that I already had his love child back in 02.

re: #240 Occasional Reader

In defense of Wiki, I actually find it surprisingly accurate regarding topics which a) aren't heavily political and b) about which I have a good base of independent knowledge with which to compare.

I agree. Once you get away from politically-charged subjects, it's just articles written by fans of whatever topic they're posting about, like car stuff. So, the "take it with a grain of salt" pretty much applies. Some of the automotive stuff I've seen written on Wiki was more accurate that what's in some books you find in the bookstore, especially the big coffee table books that have been marked down to $6.98, which are long on pictures and short on accuracy.

The burden now lies with YOU to educate the world on 'sharmuta'!

re: #240 Occasional Reader

It can be very useful (re: the "vulva" article people complained about on a previous thread ; even if the photos are a bit shocking they give you a much better idea of the "architecture" than the Gray's Anatomy drawings). But it's like a Thesaurus -- it's most useful if you already know something about what you're looking for. The history articles are usually quite serviceable, but sometimes contain stuff that's either out of date or balderdash.

The only thing I've ever edited was a page on Jimmy Page, btw.

Joba is already being heralded as Mariano's successor by Klapish, which I think is premature. Let's see how he does the rest of the season. The kid certainly has a live arm and great stuff.

Besides, Joba wants to be a starter (don't they all?!)

I think Joba might come around to think a little differently if things progress as they are.

The kid has a great future. Lots of possibilities.

Here's another shocker;
Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the sixteenth President of the United States, March 4, 1861 to April 15, 1865. As an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery and a political leader in the western states, he won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected president later that year. During his term, he helped preserve the United States by leading the defeat of the secessionist Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. He introduced measures that resulted in the abolition of slavery, issuing his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and promoting the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution in 1865

I've been wondering, too. Atlas Shruggs had a piece on Sunday linking the two students with the pipe bombs in So Carolina to several others with terrorist ties. She said she had received hate mail from the same IP addresses that were registered to one of them.

CORRECTION TO MY POST- NOT CAIR BUT TROLLS USING ONE OF THESE GUYS IP ADDRESS, FROM 'ATLAS SHRUGS':

RAMADAN ABDULLA IS FBI MOST WANTED TERRORIST

Ramadan Abdullah Mohammad Shallah is wanted for conspiracy to conduct the affairs of the designated international terrorist organization known as the "Palestinian Islamic Jihad" (PIJ) through a pattern of racketeering activities such as bombings, murders, extortions, and money laundering. Shallah was one of the original founding members of the PIJ and is presently the Secretary-General and leader of the organization, which has its headquarters located in Damascus, Syria. He was listed as a "Specially Designated Terrorist" under United States law on November 27, 1995. Shallah was indicted in a 53 count indictment in the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, Tampa, Florida.

RAMADAN ABDULLA SHALLAH used the fax number for the ISLAMIC ACADEMY OF FLORIDA as his contact number when he listed the 12402 PAMPAS PL TAMPA FL ADDRESS.

TARIK HAMDI used his HERNDON VA PHONE NUMBER when he listed the 12402 PAMPAS PL address in TAMPA FL. Funny, the location of all the IPs of my trolls (Duncan, Thrasher , Goldie et all) are Reston Va. Coincidence?

It's not quite that simple, actually...

I disagree and stand by my point. It's very simple. The stock price is down, their assets depreciating, circulation dropping, readership quickly growing old, and their revenue stream sinking as we speak. That is the most classic Wall Street definition of imminent failure and a textbook case of any MBA program.

Google may be making money but they are a very different breed of lib from the old, fat cats of the NYT and Madison Ave. This very much parallels the 80s with IBM (the old) and Microsoft (the new). They may have a common enemy (us) but that is a very different battle and a very different type of competitor.

re: #333 goodbye_natalie

re: #298 Cognito

You were previously addressing 'the industry' of print newspaper, instead of only the NYTimes, and so I was talking about the industry as a whole. My point was that while the 'paper' portion of the industry is quickly sinking, the 'news' part is not.

I just read the entire Wiki article on G.W.Bush. Damn. Looks like the NYT wrote the entire article. Unbiased it is not. When have allegations and innuendos ever been considered as proper material for an encyclopedia article? More than a few of the citations would not be accepted by the average professor as legitimate citations. Although not as slanted as an article written by a writer suffering from BDS, it is nonetheless quite slanted unfavorably. Oh well, I guess it actually reflects more on the writers than on G.W.Bush.

Advertising dollars make any media based of circulation numbers or readership. Google's day will come...they will quickly mature and we be battling them 10 years from now with rival competitors from the right. I'm surprised that this hasn't been done more quickly. Probably because Google's main competition also leans left.

You're only supporting my point that the paper aspect of newspapers is dying, but that the news part -- the product, as opposed to the mere delivery -- will always survive. It doesn't matter where people "under 30" get their news -- it matters that they're getting it.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln. All not idiots. Most other Presidents have the idiot syndrome. It's not about Democrats or Republicans. It's about the abuse of power. Oh and one need not take the word 'idiot' literally. There is room there for simply saying, 'he ain't the smartest cookie we've had in the White House'.

I wonder if any of those gents could get elected today. I think not, I'm afraid.

You're only supporting my point that the paper aspect of newspapers is dying, but that the news part -- the product, as opposed to the mere delivery -- will always survive. It doesn't matter where people "under 30" get their news -- it matters that they're getting it.

Tell that to the shareholders of the companies that provide the representation of the news, no matter the media type. I doubt they would agree with you, including Google.

It's just a matter of sorting out distribution. Are you saying people no longer read about what's happening around the world?

419 acacia  Tue, Aug 14, 2007 2:25:16pm

Just checked out the entry for Bush and I can't believe how biased it is in general. The wikipedia idea might be good for general subjects but it sure misses the mark when it comes to politics or anything controversial.

420 Cognito  Tue, Aug 14, 2007 2:26:50pm

Goodbye Natalie,

Distribution, I'll say further, is a BIG deal -- it's the bottleneck through which everything must pass. But it's distribution we're talking about, nonetheless.

Yes, most 'educated mature adults' would agree. That's an easy one. Does being the POTUS somehow exclude someone from being an idiot? Yeah, didn't think so.

I'm glad you concede the first point.
Yes, being POTUS would by definition exclude one from being an idiot. It doesn't exclude one from making mistakes, nor being unable to please everyone, much less those that are politically opposed to that administrations platform to start with.

And therein is the key. GWBush is not a Democrat, ergo he is an idiot. Easy once you know how Rashomons' logic works. If he was a Democrat, all would be alright with the world. Interesting.

re: #424 Render
The usual working definition of "idiot" is anyone that doesn't think or do as the person speaking wants.

426 jcm  Tue, Aug 14, 2007 2:42:25pm

Let's see.

Yale Grad.
Harvard MBA.
Qualified Interceptor Pilot (F-102 a bitch of an airplane).
Elected Gov.
Reelected by landslide.
Elected Pres.
Reelected.

It is impossible for anyone with that type of resume to be an idiot.

I doubt the same can be said for anyone who would make can claim.

Either I am a very poor communicator or you have a reading comprehension problem because you continue to misconstrue about everything I've posted. I said nothing of the sort - news is bigger than ever, probably for all age groups.

But people are not willing to pay for it like they once were. Are you arguing that they will? Because I would be more than happy to place a little bet that you're wrong.

The biggest expense to obtaining news anymore for most folks is the fee you pay to access the gateway.

I'm still wondering the thought process behind that whole montage. How can you compare a living president and his actions / idiocy with presidents of a time that you were not alive to hear them speak, see their demeanor and see how they reacted in a public environment. GWB must be a pretty smart idiot to be the most powerful person on the planet and the leader of the free world. We should only strive to be such an idiot.

430 Sponge  Tue, Aug 14, 2007 2:48:16pm

ALL THAT being said, do I agree with his policies? Not all......am I happy with him as a president currently? Not really, when it comes to the border and national security. I'm lovin the economy right now, the tax cuts are my friend and I think he is doing the right thing when it comes to taking the WOT to the enemy and not waiting around for the next attack on US soil.

I don't even think clinton was an idiot.......Jackass? Yes.....but no idiot. Even carter didn't gain that extinction, really until after he got booted for being a bad president.

EXACTLY.

Carter was just a reflection of the Democratic mass retreat from Viet Nam.
I lived through it.
The de-regulation of the Airlines was the only thing with which I agreed with Carter.

435 Outrider  Tue, Aug 14, 2007 2:59:26pm

There will never be a time when any given person is totally satisfied with any candidate simply by virtue of the Internet. Within moments, everyone has access to every statement, every mistake, every foible of any public figure. With access to all previous comments, comparisons can be made and contradictions found. With such easy, rapid access more citizens, as well as reporters can query the political figures as to their views on any subject and have the responses instantly posted.
This has never happened before. The Presidents in the 19th century and previous were virtually unknown by the average citizen who didn't even know what the politicians looked like, unless they lived close by. The citizens got prepared speeches printed in the paper much later than the actual speech.
TV and radio changed that significantly, but their opinions still consisted of canned speeches for the most part and soft pedaled questions by the press. This started to change with RMNixon when hardball questioning started to occur.
The Internet as I said, changed the entire playing field.

No need to get snippy. And I do not, I promise, have a reading comprehension.

The problem is not whether people will continue to pay for news -- someone will pay for it, whether directly or through looking at advertisments. The problem is whether people will be paid to generate news copy.

Real news gathering isn't easy, and no one wants to do it for free.

It's not rocket science either, unless it is about rocket science.

Shareholders of companies demand a payback on their capital, print media is going to the dogs, and biased news is getting ready to find out it's not worth what it once was paid, Google or not. The gravy train is over.

You want to take that bet?

And they'll be plenty of young journalism majors out there more than happy to take a lessor salary if some of the prima donnas complain they aren't receiving what think they're worth. That's good for your industry since you seem to have a personal vested interest.

The other problem, of course is: will the new blood be able to overcome the far left bias drilled into them by the liberal professors teaching at most journalist schools?

I keep hoping and praying that something comes along to deal a deathblow to liberalism as a going concern in the USA, that something happens which so utterly wrecks the credibility of all liberals that no one will ever take them seriously again, and everyone now looks at all liberals as total crackpot losers.

No, of course it's not rocket science. Which is why journalists generally make crap for money. Nobody, though, will work for nothing. They might dabble, take up the hobby, etc, but work is work is work.

Shareholders of companies demand a payback on their capital, print media is going to the dogs, and biased news is getting ready to find out it's not worth what it once was paid, Google or not. The gravy train is over.

Biased news... what? Who said anything about bias? We were talking about market forces. If you want to talk bias, you've stumbled into a whole new arena. And in that arena, unfortunately, the liberals are trumping the convervatives. That's why their blogs are bigger.

You want to take that bet?

Um, what bet? That the news industry -- that is, the collection and distribution of news stories -- will collapse? Sure. I'll take that bet. People will always want to know what's happening in the world.

And they'll be plenty of young journalism majors out there more than happy to take a lessor salary if some of the prima donnas complain they aren't receiving what think they're worth.

Newsflash: There aren't lessor salaries that what entry-level journalists make. It's hardly more than minimum wage, most places.

That's good for your industry since you seem to have a personal vested interest.

If you want to talk bias, you've stumbled into a whole new arena. And in that arena, unfortunately, the liberals are trumping the convervatives. That's why their blogs are bigger.

Baloney. They're bigger because they have no other option to vent. Show me somebody bigger than Drudge - he's accused of being conservative, isn't he? They're getting wiped in cable news (the new TV media). Talk radio is an abysmal failure on behalf of the left. Air America, anyone?

If you want to talk bias, you've stumbled into a whole new arena.

No, that's actually an old arena as attested by my first comment about NYT and Times which started this conversation. Their bias is their downfall.

Newsflash: There aren't lessor salaries that what entry-level journalists make. It's hardly more than minimum wage, most places.

I know. The market has determined their worth. Less than the guy delivering the papers.

Not sure what your point is there. Feel free to elaborate.

Just seems this is a sore spot with you. Figured your personal regard must somehow be related to mass media. If I'm wrong, mea culpa. Mannerly enough?
