Well, I watched the entire announcement video. He seemed to make a lot of sense.
He said all the right things.
He's very photogenic, with those big puppy dog eyes (and no I'm not gay).
We'll see where he goes from here and how he does in future debates against the other candidates, which he will have to attend from now on.

There is a proposed ballot initiative that would award electoral votes by congressional district, with the overall winner (the Democrat) getting the "Senate" votes. Maine and Nebraska already have this system. Had it been in place in 2004, Bush would have gotten 22 CA electoral votes. I'm all for it: candidates might actually campaign in California again.

Needless to say, the Democrats are claiming this is an attempt to "steal" the 2008 Presidential Election. Asswipes.

I'm a Tennessean and I can tell you first hand the Fred is the real deal - old school conservative who says what he means and hides nothing. He announced on Leno because he got more talk time there than he would at the debate. Plus, more people watch Leno than the debates; at least those are the votes he can steal from Hillary.

Watch the video on fred08.com. If you're a conservative, you'll be impressed. As for McCain - yes, they're personal friends. They served in the senate together and became close there. McCain is great on defense issues - just not on domestic issues. I'd love to see him as Sec. Def. or even an active VP with a voice in foreign policy. As for Rudy - just not presidential material. Not conservative enough, but boy I'd love to have him as US Atty Gen.

And would someone please put Ron Paul back in his straight jacket before he hurts himself?

Uh... it would have defeated the United States, in effect. It would have uh... been in position to continue its nuclear weapons program, it would have still been doiong what they were doing, putting people in human shredders, and especially in light of what Iran is doing right now, they certainly would have been in a nuclear competition in that part of the world, sitting on those oil reserves. To think that had we not gone in there we wouldn't have had any problems, I think, is dead wrong.

Leno: Do we stay?

Fred: I think that we stay until we get the job done.

Leno: I think that's the part that confuses people.

Fred: Until it is pacified enough for those people, who went into voting lines with people shooting at them in some cases, who voted, and put their finger in the ink and so forth, the first time in that part of the world, in the history of the world. Uh... until they have an opportunity to have a free life and to not be killed by Al Qaeda and others fighting uh... in that part of the world. I think that that's doable. I think it's tough. But I think we can't afford to go into a situation and not show resolve. I think the most dangerous thing in the world that could happen to the United States of America is for people to think we're weak and divided. Iraq is a part of a much bigger picture. Iraq and Afghanistan. Uh... there is a global war going on. We are the main target. And those who would befriend us. The enemy is ruthless. Al Qaeda is here ...in this country. National intelligence estimates tell us that. They are strong. They're trying to get their hands on nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. I don't know how much more stark the situation could be. That's going to be the situation that we're going to have to deal with for some time, regardless of what happens in Iraq. But if the wrong result happens in Iraq and we're perceived the wrong way by friends and enemies alike, it's going to make the situation more difficult, and we're going to be more vulnerable. It's a tough deal, but it's a choice of two bad choices, not a good and a bad.

Leno: Well, how about Iran? You see possibly military action there as well? I mean, at what point does it stop?

Fred: You can't ever... you can't ever tell what the facts on the ground are going to be a year or two years from where we're sitting here. Obviously, our intelligence knows some things that you and I don't know. I had a... you know, I was chairman of one of a committee that dealt with some of these issues for the Secretary of State, until I resigned to do this, I had a high security clearance. But I don't know exactly where they are in their nuclear program, I don't think our intelligence knows precisely. But they're moving in that direction. And they're clearly responsible for more and more of our problems. They are sending in these improvised explosive devices, they are training Iraqi militants in Iran and sending them back into Iraq, they're sponsoring Hezballah, who probably as we speak are planning another attack on Israel. They support Hamas. They support terrorism all around the world. And they've got a fella who is not put together well upstairs runnin' the country.

Leno: Right.

[Nervous laughter]

Fred: And has threatened the destruction of Israel. I mean, sometimes when these maniacs make threats ...they mean it. And it comes to pass later on. So we've got to take that situation very seriously. But obviously, a military attack is the last thing in the world that you want to have to do, and there's some things that we can do that will probably not necessitate that.

Oh and #12, I understand where you're coming from; it is a horrible disease... But I do think that you are misinformed of his condition. I've known people who've gone in remission for 20 years and longer. He's much better off than many I know. And while he fights the disease, he could fight for us against the islam-o-crazies out there.

Yeah but the (broken link) talks about the conditional survival rate, which according to this, I think suggests if you make it past the first year, your odds of making it to the next year go way, way up.

Look, I'm not saying that Fred is the right man for the White House. I'm still a Rudy guy. But I'm not going to dismiss Fred outright for no reason at all. I want to hear what he has to say. I want to see how he handles himself in debates.

To just say "Spencer Abraham- disqualified" is really intellectually lazy.

When he said, "every silver lining has a cloud," he basically got my vote. It's Fred '08 or nothing for me, not on issues, but on wavelength.

Where is he on the issues? So far, I haven't heard or seen anything I disagree with him on. And frankly, of the other candidates I've been able to follow (Rudy, Mitt, McCain), none of them seem to know how or when to present a poker face the way Fred does. In fact, I think that's Rudy's biggest weakness: his righteous anger toward the supporters of 9/11 is right, but not for a sitting President. His reactions to the House of Saud and Ron Paul demonstrate this. I like Rudy, and overall I think he's a great guy, but the man's best qualities are better focused domestically, not internationally. Fred, being the actor, and having that laid-back Southern "them's the facts, Jack" approach, will be more solid and less sway-able in dealings with foreign gov'ts, I think.

But that's just me.

Hey all, regarding that website that rates all the senators with that little dot in the field, I was wondering... Is there a website that asks you a series of questions, and then rates how conservative or liberal or libertarian or whatever you are?
I ask because my wife votes dem always, yet whenver we talk about issues, she almost always agrees with my conservative ideas. When I point this out to her she gets mad and says "I am not conservative!"

Of equal importance, is the fact that this has detracted from the fact that Hillary's #1 fund fund raiser has fled the country. I know that in MSM circles this is a mere yawn, but I I think it curious. In fact, if it were a Canadian candidate I think the press would be more interested.

Look, Fred Thompson entered the race long ago, he's gotten as much coverage as all the others since the idea was floated out back in march. The real difference is he was very wise to let the media and public weigh him during that period, and in the process, as a true conservative, Fred saved his money. He didn't spend it, everyone else has. I cant imagine, as he put it, that people will say "well he sure would make a great President, but he entered the race too late. He has popular recognition in the public and is a very hard target for the left to aim at.

I'm not a Fred Head nor pro Fred. There is allot of publicity around him as a candidate but the fact remains. He is now running. Despite the criticisms he still has to answer them all eventually. And believe me, the Dems and their communist backers in the media will make sure that happens as soon as possible. Fred has to deal with both the Dems and Republican critics. He's really got an up hill battle.

I'll see how he gets through it if he can. So, I am holding off my judgments until the real debates start. My first question to all the candidates would be this.

A Muslim whose religious practice requires that she cover her head in public sued the Orange County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday, alleging her rights were violated when jail officials forced her to remove a head scarf while locked up for about eight hours.

Souhair Khatib filed suit in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, alleging that her right to practice her religion had been violated, causing her "extreme mental and emotional distress." Named in the complaint, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Southern California, were Sheriff Michael S. Carona, the captain in charge of courtroom deputies and Orange County.

Khatib, 32, of Anaheim, said she filed the lawsuit to make other Muslim women in the U.S. aware of their right to religious freedom. Many Islamic women cover their heads and necks with scarves, known as hijabs, while in public as mandated by the Koran.

A Muslim who in public wears a burka, a head-to-toe covering, sued the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles for requiring her to show her face for a driver's license. The case was dismissed.

California DMV spokeswoman Jan Mendoza said Muslims are allowed to be photographed while wearing a head covering as long as their faces are shown.

Wearing the hijab "is an obligation," and being without it is embarrassing because a woman's head and neck are exposed to strange men in the courtroom and male deputies in jail, Khatib said.

"They humiliated me. We have the right to [wear] our scarves," she said.

According to the suit, not wearing a scarf is a "serious breach of faith." Khatib said she did not wear one while living in her native Lebanon but ended the "sin" of not covering up seven years ago, after arriving in the United States.

She is a U.S. citizen.

Khatib and her husband, Amro, were convicted of welfare fraud last year and sentenced to three years' probation and 30 days of community service.

The judge who took their guilty plea last year gave them about 120 days to complete the community service. The Khatibs returned to court Nov. 1, two days before the deadline, to ask for an extension.

Souhair Khatib said that when Superior Court Judge Douglas Hatchimonji learned that she had completed only 15 hours of service and her husband four, he ordered them jailed.

ACLU attorney Hector Villagra said jail officials ordered Khatib's hijab removed because they said it could be used to choke someone.

But Villagra said a woman in the holding cell with Khatib was wearing fishnet stockings that were not confiscated and could have also been used as a weapon.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and requests that Orange County Jail officials allow the use of religious head coverings.

There also is no problem discussing the negative traits of western culture as well (namely, capitalism...free trade...etc.)

Never the less the greatest exposure of any political figures in history will not be stopped, if you think the Rathergate memo was significant, you have not seen anything. These hillbilly murderers will be exposed and they will take the Left down with them. A reckoning is coming. Also, I talk to allot of people from all over the country. Liberalism, or democratic sympathies are more prevalent than we would like to admit. We can indeed loose. It is going to take a very strong and confrontational candidate to really punch through this. Any weakness shown in any of the candidates will be exploited the the CCCP media.

Only a strong and consistent candidate will win, McCain is not one of them. Gulliani so far is the most consistent running candidate he is is considered more of a moderate or libertarian. We still can loose.

History only shows us that everyone who has won a Presidential election has done so with at least some of the South's help, but it is hardly required. Reagan would have easily coasted to re-election in 1984 without one southern state if he had needed to. Similarly, Clinton needed no southern state electoral votes in 1996, as he had enough votes without them.

Granted, these are both re-elections, but mathematically speaking, Hillary does not need the South to win.

That is quite obviously the way she and Obama both feel given the way they have both written off the Southern and Western states for the most part. They play to the large urban centers and have them.

I don't view corporations as evil by any means. Personally, my views are much more relaxed than most conservative republicans I know.

I am a "let the buyer make that choice" kind of person. If he wants to eat Rat poison, let them do it. They're capable of making those decisions on their own. I think the FDA is mostly BS. I really don't care if people die on X drug if 1 person dies and 100 are saved from it. But hey, the government says we can't make that decision for ourselves... That sucks.

But if a company can lower prices and take losses to get local businesses out of the area...well, yeah...that's wrong. Anything that goes against the spirit of capitalism by fair means is wrong. I really have no answers to everything.

Kind of like how those clerks and other workers that supported the nazis were our enemies in WWll. Just because they didn't engage in direct killing, does not mean they didn't buy into the whole nazi thing.

Our enemies are united by a belief system, not by the means they use to impose it. Therefore, we can't identify the enemy simply by which ones are carrying out violent attacks. I'm not suggesting that all muslims be killed. I'm suggesting that we might want to start identifying who it is we are fighting and why and there are a lot of ways to fight an ideology that does not include killing all of our your enemies.
