The SITE Institute says a new video is coming from Osama bin Laden, but I expect more old footage recut to look new. I remain 97.33% convinced that bin Laden’s been dead for a long time.

But there is an awful lot to be said with regards to 'the legend of OBL'. If he is never reported as dead or captured, then his cronies can later claim that he was whisked off to heaven on that winged half-man half-horse (half-pig?) thing. Now, I have a problem with giving Chertoff credit for being able to find his butt with toilet paper. But just maybe DHS had a notion 9/11 is a magic date for the Jihadis.

TEHRAN -- Iran Thursday accused the United States of supporting separatist rebel groups in its border regions to carry out acts of sabotage, including blowing up oil pipelines.

Iran's top national security official Ali Larijani said that Washington was backing groups like Pejak, a Kurdish separatist group linked to Turkey's outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party that has carried out a spate of attacks in northwestern Iran.

"The United States has become so weak that it is trying to strengthen groups like Pejak and other groups to carry out actions like blowing up oil pipelines in Iran," the official news agency IRNA quoted Larijani as saying.

Regarding pigs. The Mohammedans seem to be very very allergic to any trace of "pigness." They are worried about pig molecumes in the dust from pet food factories.

Now porcine critters have been around for very literally millions of years. That means that in each breath of air we breath there is probably a collection of atoms or even molecules that have acquired the attribute of "pig-ness" in the last few million years.

Thus there is absolutely no hope for any Mohammedan receiving his or her trip to paradise. They are all quite thoroughly contaminated by things that have been through pigs.

Poof.

However; all of this stuff is what the Gloom & Doomers were telling us was to happen this summer.

42 jeffinsac  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 3:39:10pm

Bin Laden was a media junkie who released a video every month after 9/11 up until Dec 2001. After we did the massive bombing of Tora Bora, not a verified word has been heard from him since. We are talking almost 6 years now. Yes, he is dead.

Want his body? Go figure out how to dig out the caves on steep slopes of Tora Bora at 8-10 thousand feet high.

43 kham  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 3:39:48pm

If this just yet another dated video of him droning on about how furious he was when he failed to make the cheerleeding sqaud in high school, then it's probably safe to assume he's either dead or dying (Allah willing).

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had a telephone contact with his Syrian counterpart Walid Al-Moallem Thursday evening following the blatant violation of the Syrian airspace by the Zionist military planes.

The Iranian official called the Zionist act a useless effort to galvanize the defeated Zionist army facing the heroic resistance of the Lebanese nation.

Pointing to futility of such acts in preventing the declining regime of the Zionist usurpers, Mottaki underscored the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Iranian and Syrian nations and governments.

The Syrian foreign minister thanked Iran's strong support for Syria and said his country is ready to counter any aggressive action by the Zionist regime.

The daisies above Osama's box
Have tilted to one side
Everything about this louse
Is going to burn and die

Oh it doesn't seem six years ago
Around this special day
You said I'm sorry brothers
If I don't get out of this place
I won't see another day

Your worthless ass lies bleeding from our hands
Oh it thrills me to think of you with Mohammad
Now we're playing rock and roll with your adoring fans
Didn't know if the bars could hold you
So we split your head
Your ass lies bleeding from our hands

I wonder if those bombs
Left some scars on you
Like all the burning hoops of fire
Yasser's wackos jump through

You're a shitbird on hell's line
I hope you're happy now
And when Mo's through making you his little girl
We'll rip you a new one again somehow

Your ass lies bleeding from our hands da da da, da da da da, da da da da,...

Charles, I've been saying that he was dead for over a year now. Consider this, you are a young marine chasing his ass all over Tora Bora and finally find him. After transversing the most difficult terrain hunting this mass-murderer do you read him his rights or let your weapon speak for you? Ask yourself just who gains by releasing the news that a frustrated grunt put him out of our misery, Al-Q, the US or Bush? I suspect that GWB would be the only one that would gain. That gain would be for political purposes only, something I guess that GWB would dismiss out of hand. Keeping Bin Laden alive serves the purpose of Al-Q and the US. Just envision the outcry in this country of capturing him and sending him to Gitmo. The Islamofacists would make him into a martyr. The ACLU would have a field day.

The prospect of Bin Laden still breathing gives the US a target to pursue ( a need to appease the lefties ) and Islamofacists a leader for their cause. Everyone but GWB wins. JMHO.

58 wanumba  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 3:43:11pm

The world wide caliphate needs its leader. If OBL was alive, he would have to be there, here, up, down, especially since Al-Q is getting its butt kicked, to rally the faithful. The No. 2s tried to run their own tapes, demonstrating they were in charge - passing of the mantle - without overtly stating it, (not daring to admit they hadn't seen or heard from OBL either, since forerever), but they didn't have "it." Proof they didn't have "it" was that they weren't able to rally much of anyone, and to add insult to injury, or injury to insult, they soon afterwards ended up on the dust heap of history. "It" being the charismatic leadership thangy. That's actually correct nomenclature for a specific leadership "type." Leading by force of personality (which is why it's often used for preachers who end up with a church focused on THEM not God.)
OBL's role in the afterlife hereandnow is to provide an excuse for Democrats to sniff, "We should be diverting all our troops to hunting down OBL." (For the next two hundred years) and as yrtax$@work said up there, good positioning for the eternally whisked away designation- a neo-Enoch or neo-Elijah (It'll make a few readers gack, but they are the competition to beat, aren't they?)

At their ages, and physical sturdiness, the Castro bros could have died in each other's arms with that mafia kiss.
But, the Chavez thang ... hmmm. Always thought it was odd how he kept jetting back and forth. Didn't make sense, why would a president of a nation richer than the other keep showing up at the bedside of the lessor of the two? Unless, Chavez was really there to incorporate Cuba into his sphere? Literally, as in absorb.

I look at Eric Rudolph and how he eluded authorities for three years with little help from anyone. Considering the amount of money being thrown at Al Quaada by rich wahaabanist Saudis. OBL probably lives in a magnificently appointed German designed and French built state of the art bunker with satellite TV and Internet access. Either that or he lives in a cave and smells like a goat! take your pick.

Maybe the regime is working on animatronic versions of the two?

Wanumba -

They would be AND the US would allow it as a "Non-Strategic" Purchase. Problem is - on this like everything else they buy from the US -
they would have to PAY CASH, 1.8 Billion 1959 Dollars in expropriation have not as yet been settled, as the Chinese have done. Bottom line,
Disney could not legally extend credit for the audioanimatronics even if they wanted to. The remainder of "the Embargo"/"el bloqueo" is as follows 1. Critical Military or Dual Use Technology. 2. PAY CASH. Why do you think our Agribusiness giants want to "end the embargo" - for them there is NO EMBARGO except that the US TAXPAYER will not under current law underwrite the next CUBAN DEFAULT. Cuba has been cut off as of this summer by the European Major Banks (a/k/a SWISS). They are a BAD BET under the current regime and will be so until REGIME CHANGE. After that, I refer you to the blog of Don Tomas Estrada Palma, great grandson of the first elected President of the Republic of Cuba, he happens to work for, of all places, in a "Light-Blue" Collar job for the Washington Post!

re: #97 YourTaxDollarsAtWork
Earlier this year, there was Castro or Chavez talk about passing the mantle to Chavez (think it was Chavez). We all looked at it as figurative, but maybe Chavez was hinting a genuine take over of Cuba.
Is there ANY credible alternative in Cuba, even amongst the regime itself? or opposition to stop Chavez? There is no succession in Cuba apart from Fidel/Raul is there? That's a weak State without leadership, ripe for the picking by anyone bold enough to pluck it. Chavez is kissing up to Ahmedinejad, who even bothered himself to hustle over to VEnezuela (and with what else in his bags?) and Cuba is within easy missle strike to the USA. As we all learned forty years ago. So, even with crapo several years old tech, a Cuban launchpad would be valuable to the Iranians and Venezuela.
Maybe that's why no announcement has been made about Castro's death - Chavez is going to time it to suit his dramatic and politcal needs - a full COUP d' ETAT?

re: #114 wanumba With all due respect to you, I think Chavez would be in charge of Cuba for about 48 hours and then Cuba and Venezuela would both be real democracies - or at least we see that they had a chance to actually become democracies.
Don't have the links handy, but IIRC, JFK and every president since (except possibly Carter and Clinton) has said that the US has no quarrel with the people of Cuba.
Chavez taking over in Cuba would certainly give us reason to kick his ass there and in Venezuela, especially given his oft repeated mantra about the US being Satan (a line which I think he copped from Dinnerjacket, but I'm not sure). And, as has been pointed out, Cuba is too close to the US for us to allow anyone else to take over who would be hostile to the US.

123 ornery elephant  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 4:26:26pm

I certainly have thought he is dead. But this is troubling to me. Why would Al Qaeda set themselves up for a bust like this? I mean, they have promised a video and have already released still photos of bin ladenscum from that video.

If it is proven by experts that the bin Ladenscum in the video and in the stills is:

a) a fake
b) old footage
c) it doesn't even come to pass

Why would they open themselves up to that lie? Why not just let it keep riding? Nothing much bothers Al Qaeda but they don't like to look foolish.

I think two things support he may be alive:

1. They are announcing this video
2. They have called in a TON of their fighters from Afghanistan and other areas back into NW Pakistan - I feel that is in preparation of either a move of bin Ladenscum or an attempt to establish permanent residence there.

I do like that scenario, oh yes!
Of course, that's potentially why CHavez isn't saying anything (if we carry on with this possible scenario). He shows up with a rewritten Cuban Constitution that declares that Cuba reverts via some peculiar mechanism to Venezuela and then the UN toady councils chime in on cue and Cindy Sheehan goes running to Nancy Pelosi to proclaim it's the desire of the Cuban people to be overlorded ... rather nurtured ... by the benevolent Venezuala supreme leader... hand wringing in the Left ... NYT, Michael Moore, all of Hollywood all media stops out to dogpile on the administration - a straightforward situation becomes complicated and dangerous. Not to mention the alliances and mutual CYA treaties that are being secretly signed, 'cause Chavez by himself can't hold Cuba, but he has a better chance if he has other means of threatening/blackmailing the USA. Example: You try this and we'll bomb Israel. Didn't that very threat come up this week regarding something else?
Just don't like the thought of the manuverings that go with such a move.

151 wanumba  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 8:14:10pm

Back to OBL, didja see the photos?
There is something screwy with the "look." The beard is very odd. It's not just the single tone, but the rounded "cut" - it looks like it was shortened and shaped - so there's a very neat shadow under it - I call old photo, photoshopped and modified. They have been noticing that people are looking for that "modern look" so they gave his image a beard trim.
Tell me, how many people who've been on the lam for more than half a decade in extreme conditions have exactly the same body fat and facial fat as they did years ago? Especially when said person was already in his fifties. Aging, folks! Even a person who's maintained the same weight will have a more angular facial look going into their sixties. Can't fight gravity or time. Bin Laden has not aged. Odd, ain't it?
Give it a day or two with the image tech people and we'll have the low-down.

re: #56 GeeWiz

JMHO.

'

I can see that. I've often wondered if that scenerio actually happened.

Same with OBL, Muslims are pretending he is alive so their fantasy doesn't end.

163 Arbalest  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 9:02:27pm

I think that OBL is dead, but only recently.

Too bad.

I was really looking forward to seeing if OBL behaved in a manly way when captured, more like Saddam than Che. Saddam, unlike Che, at least had the good grace to not surrender while still carrying a fully loaded and actually unfired pistol on his person.

Further, I wonder under what conditions OBL lived.

Was he indeed mostly clean and only slightly musty, as the “intellectual” effete are wont (sniff your English/Philosophy/Poly Sci/activist professor if you need proof), or did the 70 sanitary procedures, as recently preached by some fool cleric in Egypt (who has the body shape and stamina of a well-fed pig, and doubtless smells like an unwashed one) fail him?

But OBL seems to have learned form Che, send others to do the fighting; take credit for successes and bury the rest. Did OBL then, like Che, take pride in his ability go for periods without washing?

The world may never know.

As a side note: This post at The Jawa Report discusses jihadi website talking about an “invasion of Manhattan” and displays a picture with "11/9" on it.

I realize that by 11/9 they are using the European representation for 11 September

But 11/9 in the US means 09 November (and maybe the site really means 09 November), and the website does show “11/9”.

Is 09 November related to any lunar event or lines up with any historical Muslim event?

What about Jewish holidays?

Is any event in NYC scheduled for 09 November, or any day close (Veteran’s Day?) ? What about anywhere else in the US, Britain or Europe?

It seems an improbable indicator, but 9/11, on 9/10 and before, was not unusual.

164 Timbre  Thu, Sep 6, 2007 9:10:59pm

Charles: I am a big fan, but I have a different view. If OBL were dead, he would have a martyrology from here to Pluto on the Internet and in Arabic documents. From ABC: "Intelligence sources tell ABC News they believe the expected video message from Osama bin Laden is authentic, recently produced and evidence the al Qaeda leader is still alive."

How can someone believe it's authentic if all they know is it's "expected"?

Good Morning America Video: Bin Laden Alive?
The jihadist Web site announced the tape with a banner, showing a still picture of bin Laden, now 50 years old, looking fit with a full beard of dark black hair, no gray at all.

Is this a love-in? Looking fit? These guys go to college to learn how to write this stuff. Reminds me of Chris Matthews when Billary reappeared after heart surgery.

Yes indeed.
He's Dead, Jim!
Charles,
You are the only other relatively sane individual besides myself who will bet dollars to donuts that Osama the Ooze is dead.

I believe his putrefied corpse is lying under several millions of tons of rock at Tora Bora where we smooshed him.
I also believe that the first tapes that came out after that were made by the CIA or some actual Intelligence Agency to test the waters to see if he was really dead.
And the reason that it's never been announced is that we cannot prove it.
I also believe that the tapes made since then are alternatively made by us or them to keep the myth alive.
We make the tapes to slant OOzama's rhetoric so that he sounds crazy and threatens his potential allies.
They make the tapes just in order to "keep hope alive."

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I agree with you C.
'Old Bin Laden's a molderin' in the grave.'

And I think the best way to prove it is for our government to just make a public declaration of it. "We say he's dead."

Then I think those guys would turn themselves inside out to prove that he was alive by letting something out that was convincing. And if OBL WAS alive (which I doubt) we could go get him!

It's a win win.

They can't stand talk that contradicts what they think. It's the one tactic that our leaders have not fully understood in my opinion. We should talk big. All the time. It's a cultural thing they expect. And when we don't do it, they think we are weak.

WHy now? Why is there a Bin Laden tape now?
Think Rushbo is on to it.
This is in advance of General P's report on the war progress (tho' I perfer the more accurate: Iraq THEATRE of the WAR).
The Left needs Bin LAden so they can scream, "Well, looky-here! You haven't acomplished anything. Bin Laden is still running around."
That's their argument, "We should be hunting down Osama, not battling in Iraq."
So, it's part of the scheming to discredit the report - first it was General P is a Bush lackey, this week, it's ooouuuH Bin Laden hasn't been captured... Next week's angle ...? I don't have the wacked-out enough mind to anticipate what they'll cook up next.
Just one bright spot, ya can photo-shop him all ya want, trim that beard, draw in that top button better, strengthen line of the shirt placket, but it ain't gonna fix the fact that he's dead.

In the tape, why are his hands so brown?
He looks like he has monkey's paws.

Okay, here's scoop. What you see is just a new Muppet called Osama bin Loopie.

I have always like the idea that he is in a small brig, in the bilges of a USN carriers task force supply ship. Someone does however, read and reply to his emails.

Stop Osama from talking. Howard Dean wants him for the debates.
