I sure wish the Chairman would say something like "all those who believe freedom of speech is for themselves only, will be removed and prosecuted."
But I know I'm just dreaming here.

The previous thread just exploded!

9 vrwc_merc  Mon, Sep 10, 2007 11:08:17am

There are about dozen moonbats left in the back row...we're not halfway through the irrational outbursts yet.

10 ArmyAunt  Mon, Sep 10, 2007 11:08:18am

I cannot understand how someone in a pink/red mumu with a peace sign painted on it and wearing a crown, standing up and screaming, would think that anyone would listen to what they have to say.
What asshats!
THAT is what a kossack looks like.
THAT is the democrapic party.

11 RTLM  Mon, Sep 10, 2007 11:08:24am

There's more. I saw more pink. Moonbat eruptions in the offing.

I wonder what they would say if the General asked them why he was there and what it is that they want?

What I don't get is why these oh-so-obvious protesters were even granted admittance to the proceedings. The way they dress pretty much points to the fact that they intend to disrupt. So why risk letting these tards in at all? Yeah, I know, democracy and all, but hey, it doesn't matter what was going to be said by Petraeus, these idjits were going to have there one minute of scream-fest fame.

I don't get it.

People don't know what Code Pink is except in a vague way. Then they see these oddball harridans jumping up and screaming, in contrast to a calm, disciplined soldier like Petraeus. The contrast is HIGHLY educational. I think CP just nailed a stake into the heart of the ani-war movement (at least for a while).

There are pro war folks in DC this week. Most are not scheduled to arrive until the 15th but they still won't act like this.

50 Peacekeeper  Mon, Sep 10, 2007 11:14:00am

AP already has stuff up: [Link: www.msnbc.msn.com...]
Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif., hailed Petraeus and a second witness, Ambassador Ryan Crocker, as “two of our nation’s most capable public servants.”

And yet, he quickly said, “military progress without political progress is meaningless...We need to get out of Iraq, for that country’s sake and for our own.”

Skelton is chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, while Lantos chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Now when I listened to Count Chocula, er Lantos, on Rush, Lantos was accusing the General of being a liar. Funny how spin works...

64 lawhawk  Mon, Sep 10, 2007 11:15:29am

Context is everything, and creating a semi-stable environment in Iraq is an extremely difficult task. It's even moreso when you have thugocracies and islamofascists on the borders hoping to render Iraq into scraps for the taking. al Qaeda needs the US efforts to be hamstrung by Congress and public opinion because they can't affect matters in Iraq with attacks on US forces since we're good at killing and rolling up al Qaeda cells there. They need the media to do what they cannot on the battlefield - turn the tide against the US and get a withdrawal opening up a safe haven.

The Iraqi polity needs to get its head screwed on straight - to realize not only the threats posed by the various militias, but what it would mean if the US withdraws. They would be surrounded by wolves licking their chops. Under most circumstances this might get the various groups to compromise, but some are hoping that the situation gets tilted to their advantage so that they get total power. Hence, we get political gridlock, even as the military is making significant advances on the security situation.

On cue.

Because it's all about her..

Four anti-war protesters were arrested for disorderly conduct. One of them, who was not named, is being taken to George Washington Hospital “due to complaint of injury” is also charged with assault on a police officer.

According to the information from the Capitol Police, Sheehan and the other three were shouting in a hallway.

Sheehan was the face of the anti-war movement before saying in May of this year that she would “retire” from the cause. Shortly thereafter, she announced that she would seek the congressional seat of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

She's just looking for some free campaign press.

US plans military base near Iran

The US continuously accuses Iran of destabilising
Iraq [GALLO/GETTY]

The Pentagon plans to build a military base near the Iran-Iraq border, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper quoted a senior US army commander as saying that the base will be used to try and prevent the flow of weapons by Shia fighters into Iraq.

Major-General Rick Lynch, the commander of the US army’s 3rd Infantry Division, said that the Pentagon also plans to build checkpoints on major highways leading from the Iranian border to Baghdad.

X-ray machines will be installed, as well as explosive-detecting sensors, the paper reported.

Lynch also told the Journal that "we've got a major problem with Iranian munitions streaming into Iraq. This Iranian interference is troubling and we have to stop it".

The base will be located about four miles from the Iranian border and will be used for at least two years.

'Cutting-off supplies'

US officials told the paper that it is unclear whether it will be among the small number of facilities that would remain in Iraq after any future withdrawal from the US military.

The report comes on the same day as General David Petraeus, the top US commander in Iraq and Ryan Crocker, the US ambassador to Iraq, present a report to the US congress on the war.

Jonathan Withington, a Pentagon spokesman, told Reuters news agency that he could not comment on the specifics of the planned base, but said that "coalition and Iraqi partners will continue to put pressure on the enemy, including disruptions of any supply lines, in an effort to reduce violence and to protect the Iraqi people".

Major Toby Logsdon, a US officer overseeing the project, said the new base will have living quarters for at least 200 soldiers, who could arrive in November.

Logsdon said: "Iran will know this is here - they will have to rethink how they do things, and the smugglers will have to rethink how they do things."

US officials accuse Iran of fomenting violence to destabilise Iraq and of seeking to build nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear programme, charges Iran has denied.

I hope she wins the nomination. The polls that show that about 40% of americans (dems and reps) would never vote for her regardless makes me happy.

Dodd: Dad's Nuremberg notes apply today By RON FOURNIER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - As a prosecutor at Nuremberg, Thomas Dodd charged the Nazis with "the apprehension of victims and their confinement without trial, often without charges, generally with no indication of their detention."

His son, Sen. Chris Dodd, wonders today whether he did enough to stop the United States from violating that same rule of law in the war on terror.

"For six decades, we learned the lessons of the Nuremberg men and women well," the Democratic presidential candidate writes in his book, "Letters from Nuremberg: My Father's Narrative of a Quest for Justice," published this week. "We didn't start wars — we ended them. We didn't commit torture — we condemned it. We didn't turn away from the world — we embraced it."

"But that has changed in the past few years," Dodd writes.

The book is a compilation of the informative, insightful letters Thomas Dodd, who later served as Connecticut senator, wrote home to his wife, Grace, from the trial of Nazi war criminals. On a deeper level, "Letters from Nuremberg," is a story of the elegant symmetry between a father and son, and their times.

Thomas Dodd was an ambitious young lawyer in the summer of 1945 when he traveled to the devastated city of Nuremberg, Germany, to serve as a staff lawyer in the unprecedented trial. He skillfully interrogated such notorious figures as Hermann Goring, Albert Speer and Rudolf Hess, rising to the No. 2 prosecutor on the U.S. team.

The elder Dodd saw the trial as a triumph of the rule of law, with civilized countries conducting a fair trail for mass murderers who didn't seem to deserve one.

"Winston Churchill was against the very idea — and favored summary execution," the younger Dodd writes. "The Soviet Union ... had similar ideas."

Flash forward six decades and the U.S. leaders, including Dodd and his Senate colleagues, are faced with the same moral dilemma on the issue of how to treat prisoners in the war on terror.

President Bush has argued that the commander in chief is authorized to hold enemy combatants indefinitely without trial or formal charges.

Please note that each and every individual tried at Nuremburg was a lawful member of a national army who participated in crimes against humanity. "Enemy combatants" are not members of any lawful army, to say nothing of any lawful national army. That is precisely why they are "enemy combatants" rather than "prisoners of war."

Skelton off mic

House Armed Services Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) forgot to turn off his microphone, and after asking to have some potential protesters removed from the hearing room, Skelton turned to Republican Duncan Hunter and said, "that really pisses me off, Duncan." He followed that by calling the protesters seeking to disturb the proceedings "those assholes."

He supports gay marriage rights and marijuana for medical use, is a strong proponent of gun control[2] and is adamantly pro-choice.[3]

Being electable takes more than name recognition or swagger. It comes from ideas. Duncan Hunter has ideas. The rest can happen as long as Duncan shows the passion for what he believes in.

Don't dismiss a candidate based on any "electable" or "is he presidential enough" standards. These standards are meaningless in the primary race. The person who reaches out with passion and ideas and is seen as intelligent will win. If Dunan Hunter is the most conservative of the bunch then he'll win.

WASHINGTON -- The Hezbollah militant group could stage an attack on the United States if it believed the US posed a direct threat to the group or to its alleged-backer Iran, the chief US spy Michael McConnell warned Monday.

"We assess Lebanese Hezbollah, which has conducted anti-US attacks outside the United States in the past, may be more likely to consider attacking the homeland, over the next three years, if it perceives the United States as posing a direct threat to the group or Iran," he said in written testimony to Congress.

The Lebanese Shiite militant and political organization is considered a "terrorist" group by the United States.

Iran, which is at loggerheads with the United States over its nuclear ambitions, is a vocal supporter of the Lebanese militant group, and rejoiced over its resistance to the Israeli army, last year. Tehran, however, denies Western charges that it provides arms to Hezbollah.

Unfortunately the MSM has done a good job convincing people that they themselves should be the ones choosing our candidates...as well as pushing that polls tell all and should persuade people what to think. The MSM wishes to put it behind them how WRONG..dead WRONG they were on their exit polling in 04..when they basically had bush losing to kerry. Ooops...shhh let's sweep that under the rug lol. Damascus: IAF planes dropped live ammunition on Syria during flyover

By Barak Ravid and Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondents, and the Associated Press

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said Monday that Israel Air Force warplanes dropped live ammunition during an alleged violation of Syrian airspace in the early hours of Thursday.

Muallem, who was addressing a press conference in Ankara along with his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan, was quoted Monday as accusing Israel of having carried out an intentional and hostile act.

Meanwhile, former MK Azmi Bishara said Monday he believes Israel carried out an operation in Syira. "Without getting carried away in speculation, this was an aerial operation, not an [airspace] violation in order to send a message," he wrote in an article published on the Syrian Web site Sham-Fares

Yup, Duncan Hunter not only HAS ideas, he has a track record of action. He is one of the main pushers of the border bill that did get passed and he went on a campaign to sell it to the American people, then congress decided to not fund it even though they passed it. He is still pushing though. Hunter can also name our enemy unlike the traitorous democrap counterparts.

Democrats make pre-emptive strike on Iraq reports
By Brian Knowlton

Sunday, September 9, 2007
WASHINGTON: Leading Democrats on Sunday preemptively assailed the expected findings on Iraq due this week from the top U.S. general in Iraq as "dead, flat wrong" and said that President George W. Bush's calls for continued patience there would simply extend an "unconscionable" and "completely unacceptable" policy.

The pointed comments from the Democrats, including Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and a presidential hopeful, and Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, seemed designed to undercut the impact of the much-awaited reports from General David Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad.

"This president has no plan how to win and/or how to leave," said Biden, before whose committee Petraeus and Crocker will testify on Tuesday. He said that Bush was putting American troops "into the middle of a civil war to maintain the status quo," adding, "that is unconscionable, and he's wrong."

Petraeus and Crocker will appear first on Monday before a joint House hearing. They plan a news conference on Wednesday. They are expected to describe uneven military progress and still-unsatisfactory political progress, and to ask for more time

Folks, it is becoming very very clear as each minute goes by, that the Democratic Party has decided en masse that they are drawing the line here.

Petraeus must be demonized, and they don't care if we call them on it or not. They are drawing their line in the sand, and they will fight on this battlefield.

I wonder if any "reporter" will ask Hillary what her position on this is, or if she will get another 6 month pass on having to give any opinion on anything of relevance.

This became clear weeks ago, as they all lined up to pre-emptively dismiss this report, knowing full well that if this report showed any progress it would spell electoral doom for the party. The need to retain power for the dems comes before America and Iraq's national interests.

I think it's fair to say the Left opposes the freedom of speech for anyone but themselves. They brag about shutting down conservatives who come to speak on campus, try to silence an officer reporting to Congress, and want cops to police "fairness" on the radio.

And there is the hypocrisy. The Left is always "listening to their better Angels', 'Speaking truth to power" and claiming all kinds of noble attributes.
They are very big into claiming that their free speech is under attack.
The truth is they want very controlled speech. They seem to want nothing that does not conform to their group think, no matter how nutty.

Hi,
Sorry for the OT but it might be interesting.

According to the israeli french speaking news agency MENA (menapress.com), the IAF may have done a succesful kind of "Osirak" operation against the syrian scuds & heavy missiles bases a few days ago.
There have been some noise about a big israeli plane incursion in Syria. Debka says that the IAF wanted to test the new russian made "Pantsyr" AA defense of syrian army. But according to the MENA the IAF may have actually destroyed a big part of syrian firepower in Lattaquié in a still top secret attack.
Wait and see...
