Army Checkmates The New Republic

Tue, Sep 11, 2007 at 11:42:17 am PDT

Yesterday PJ Media had an interview by Bob Owens of Confederate Yankee, with Major John Cross, leader of the US Army’s investigation into the New Republic/Scott Beauchamp scandal, appropriately titled: Army Checkmates The New Republic.

In the PJ Media peice it is proven that New Republic LIED about confirming Scott Butt-champs' story.

Not a single aspect of it was ever confirmed. Ahead of time or after the fact.

Proof that the “Debunking” of the Scott Thomas Beauchamp Story was a Conspiracy to Defraud

David Fiderer

Actually, getting caught up in a debate over Scott
Thomas Beauchamp’s veracity is the essence of the
trick. Magic tricks and frauds are all about
distractions. Three-card monte works because, while
the cards are being shuffled, your eye is distracted.
Money laundering works because, after a series of sham
transactions, regulators are distracted from the
origins of illegal proceeds.

The trumped-up cause celebre over Beauchamp’s articles
is a fraudulent scheme, executed through a series of
tricks, designed to create one big distraction. The
essence of the scheme is to compel a debate about a
trivial subject — the details of Beauchamp’s
dog-bites-man stories — in order to sow confusion
that distracts us from the bad news in Iraq. To
analogize, it would be as if Fox News forced the Red
Cross to debate the quality of food at Thereisenstadt,
in order to distract everyone from the packed trains
moving eastward.

For everyone’s benefit, I’ll schematically outline the
sequence of deceptions that constitute the overall
fraud, which was spearheaded by Fox News. It’s an
indictment against behavior that, while protected by
the First Amendment, is highly immoral. The evidence
shows beyond all reasonable doubt that Fox News and
cohorts engaged in the same intentional deception in
order to create the same false impressions.

I’ll walk through the written evidence that proves the
dishonest and deceitful intent of Charles Krauthammer,
Morton Kondracke, Fred Barnes and others. We know
their deceits were intentional because their
characterizations of the incidents described by
Beauchamp as shocking and as atrocities is so at odds
with everything else being reported about Iraq. Also,
they all characterize the reporting as not having been
properly vetted and authenticated prior to
publication, which they also know to be untrue. The
consistency in their deceptions, and their known
affiliations with Fox News, is evidence of the
conspiracy.

12 zombie  Tue, Sep 11, 2007 11:50:29am

A "detail" about the "Shattered Glass" story (earlier scandal at NR) was that almost all the fables concocted by Steven Glass were left-wing fantasies that the editors desperately wanted to be true. That scandal is often presented as being politically neutral, but it wasn't: Glass was playing into the editors' expectations. (One of his fake stories was going to a drunken party attended by Republican interns and eavesdropping on their "racist" and "sexist" comments and antics. Turns out it never happened.)

This culture of "wish fulfillment" at the NR and similar lefty pubs is endemic and has been going on for decades. Only now with the blogosphere are they being caught.

Islamophobes US military stops Muslim surveillance @ Syracuse VA Hospital;

SU student detained at VA hospital

A graduate student was detained for 20 minutes by security guards at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center near the Syracuse University campus Thursday after she took photographs of the building's entrance.

Mariam Jukaku, who studies magazine, newspaper and online journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, said that after 10 minutes of taking photographs, security officers approached her and demanded her camera.

The security guards caught her leaving the center and walking back to her car. They asked for identification and asked if Jukaku was a U.S. citizen. They also forced her delete the 15 photographs on the camera.

Jukaku wondered whether she was treated that way because of her appearance. She is a Muslim of Indian descent and wears a traditional head scarf.

"I hope it wasn't, and like to think it wasn't asked because of my appearance," Jukaku said in an interview. "But either way, I think it's indicative of what's going on, on a broader scale."

Jukaku's appearance was not an issue, said Gordon Sclar, VA Medical Center's public relations director, in The Post-Standard on Friday.

Apparently Leftists support surveillance... when it's Muslim surveilance of American military hospitals?

Your original comment was fine -- a bit long, but passable. One of the problems was the line-breaks in the code made the paragraphs tall and thin and the comment LOOKED longer than it was.

No, it's fine to paste long articles if relevant. What i was recommended was that people not "Quote" a huge comment just to append one little extra sentence. Either hit the "reply" button, or if you do use the "quote" button then prune away 95% of the unneeded excess.

Not a big deal! Just trying to make the threads a bit easier to read.

Just like at CBS News and RatherGate. It was true, because the editors and reporters there desperately (George W. Bush cruising to releection, if not a landslide) wanted it to be true.

11 September 2007

ROOSENDAAL – The 41-year-old American suspected of killing a 22-year-old student with an axe at the Roosendaal train station on Saturday had planned to attack a Dutch commando from the nearby barracks.

He wanted revenge for the Dutch participation in the war in Iraq, he has told police according to reports from BN/De Stem.

He couldn't find any commandos to attack.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich Stands Alone Opposed to Sept. 11 Commemoration Resolution

"It is important that Congress wake up to the truth and exercise its obligation under the Constitution to save our nation from being destroyed from the lies that took us into Iraq, the lies that keep us there, the lies that are being used to set the stage for war against Iran and the lies that have undermined our basic civil liberties here at home," Kucinich said in a statement.

"The September 11 resolution that Congress considers today should have made reference to those matters. It does not, so I cannot support it," Kucinich said, also calling for a halt for further war funding and the troops to be brought home.

94 SeafoodGumbo  Tue, Sep 11, 2007 12:38:09pm

Everyone know about this Beauchamp clown, and most have heard of TNR's other liar Stephen Glass, but TNR's wiki shows that there have been other dishonest scumbags over there:

In 1995, writer Ruth Shalit was fired for repeated incidents of plagiarism and an excess of factual errors in her articles.

and

Long-time contributor, critic, and senior editor Lee Siegel had maintained a blog on the TNR site dedicated primarily to art and culture until an investigation revealed that he had collaborated in posting comments to his own blog under an alias aggressively praising Siegel, attacking his critics and claiming not to be Lee Siegel when challenged by an anonymous detractor on his blog.[18] [19] The blog was removed from the website and Siegel was suspended from writing for the print magazine;[20] he resumed writing for TNR in April, 2007. Siegel was also controversial for his coinage "blogofascists" which he applied to "the entire political blogosphere", though with an emphasis on leftwing or center-left bloggers such as Daily Kos and Atrios.

So, in addition to Beauchamp and Glass, they've also had a repeat plagiarist on the paper and a senior editor who uses sock puppets (though no doubt not as artfully as Socky Sockpuppet, sbuh). The sock-puppet-using Lee Siegel is currently "senior editor at The New Republic."

Could TNR be a bigger joke?

This may have already been posted but here goes:..
Disturbed anti-war protester can't find soldier, kills civilian with axe instead

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - A U.S. citizen has confessed to using an axe to kill a Dutch student after failing to find a soldier to attack, his lawyer said Tuesday.

The suspect, Carlos Hartmann, 41, of Tecumseh, Mich., has confessed to the Sept. 8 killing on a train platform in the southern city of Roosendaal, defence lawyer Peter Gremmen said.

Gremmen said Hartmann wanted to punish the Netherlands for its support of the war in Iraq.

Hartmann appeared before a judge Tuesday and was ordered held for another two weeks for investigation.

"He hates soldiers, and says that the army kills people, so it would be legitimate if he were also to kill someone . . . from the American military - or from its NATO allies," Gremmen said in a telephone interview.

When he failed to find a soldier at the Roosendaal train station, "he got such a crazy, disturbed idea that he killed a civilian," Gremmen said.

Always attended the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville and hung out with a lot of them. Only person you couldn't get 'close' to was Garth Brooks. Only because he was such a HUGE star at that time. Been out of the business for 10 years so don't know any of the new people.

I knew something was up, when Scott Beauchamp stopped taking phone calls.

This led TNR (the New Republic), to claim the "army put their man out of reach."

FALACY, however. Since all that was taken away was his laptop (so he can't blog locations of the Vanguard's troop movements.

He's got access to phones at the base; just as all soldiers do.

Seems TNR also can't seem to locate the "five" who corroberated "Scott Thomas' " claims. Makes ya wonder if they even tried?

Scott refuses to take phone calls. Do you wonder what that means?

Checkmate. And, slam dunk. Franklin Foer didn't get much mileage out of the pieces of tripe he published, either. Hope DePalma, with a remake "redacted" gets people to notice it's just a Vietnam schtick of a movie he pulled, before. Then? Starring Michael J. Foxx. Making remakes just to insult our troops. Will hollywood ever buy a clue?

More from Brussels Journal

I just returned home from the anti-Islamization demonstration in Brussels. The Belgian police beat up the peaceful demonstrators in what even the Belgian public television call "an extremely violent fashion." Here are some video images. The grey-haired man whom we see being attacked by the police first is Luk Van Nieuwenhuysen, the Vice-President of the Flemish Parliament. Shortly afterwards we see the police maltreating Frank Vanhecke, a member of the European Parliament and the party leader of the Vlaams Belang. We see how he is handcuffed and pushed into a police bus. Afterwards we also see the police "taking care" of Filip Dewinter, the VB group leader in the Flemish Parliament. We see how his arm gets caught between the closing doors of the bus. An Italian MEP and a French MEP were also arrested.

# 145,
It doesn't seem like short of plotting with Al Q there is any such crime left on the books in the US , but on some level I am having a hard time with why Rep Kooshball is not being accused of edging right up to a treason charge.

Well, did the writer ever get to the details of his case, as promised in many over-long paragraphs of much ado about nothing?

he is a social democrat but unlike the pol. correct version of this he really believes in freedom esp religious freedom which puts him at real ods with the left. My only fear is he will be dead before he breaks with the left on this issue.

All I can say is Godspeed to them.... in Eurabia, it's going to take a witness protection program on steroids to make it happen.

Specifically, in March 2006, PVT Beauchamp posted the dates of the unit’s deployment to Iraq. I recommended that a second investigation be conducted to look into possible violations of Operational Security by PVT Beauchamp either on his Blog or in his articles posted by TNR. The outcome of this investigation was that PVT Beauchamp did violate operational security by posting the dates of the unit deployment on his blog, but the Army Regulation governing operational security, at that time, was not punitive in nature.

The Battalion Commander, having spoken with PVT Beauchamp on a couple of different occasions, determined that, while he could discharge PVT Beauchamp from the Army for his actions in the past, it would be better for PVT Beauchamp if he had another opportunity to complete his tour of service in an honorable fashion. He was counseled by the commander about his actions, but given the chance to conduct his duties as an infantryman with the Vanguard team.

PVT Buttmunch got his d*ck in a wringer over this one and came close to either jail time or a "less than honorable discharge" for his behavior. He's pretty much toast right now. Suspect that when his enlistment is finished that the Army stamps NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REENLISTMENT on his paperwork.

re: #157 Son of the Black Dog

I heard that his new MOS is Bradley track inspector.

He's doing jobs the Iraqis won't do (i.e. burning porta-potty contents). Must really suck to be him right now what with the seething and pent up rage for the Army failing to realize what a genius they have in their ranks.
