Yes, there’s another Osama bin Laden video. You don’t hear from this guy for years, then all of a sudden he won’t shut up. This new video apparently features no moving footage of the walking dead man, just a still image while a disembodied voice drones on and on. It does have the so-called “martyrdom video” of 9/11 hijacker “Abu Musab Waleed al-Shehri,” which they’ve apparently been hiding in a cave somewhere for the last six years. Booga booga.

And now it is our turn," bin Laden says.
This is curious, especially in light of bin Laden's dyed beard, and its connotations in Islamic tradition of preparing for jihad. In saying that it is "our turn," is he looking to dodge accusations that he sends others to die while he hides in caves? Or is he somehow anticipating his own "martyrdom

VERACRUZ, Mexico - One of Mexico's largest automotive plants and hundreds of other factories were shut down Tuesday after a series of gas and oil pipeline explosions, apparently caused by a shadowy rebel group, left them without fuel.

Volkswagen AG said it suspended production at its sprawling car factory outside the city of Puebla — the company's only North American manufacturing site — on Monday because of a lack of natural gas. Glassmaker Vitro SAB also said it was temporarily closing six plants across central and western Mexico.

Six explosions ripped apart pipelines in eastern Mexico on Monday, rattling financial markets in the U.S. and Mexico. Industry officials estimated losses at $90 million.

...Israel Holds Strategic Dialogue With China

(IsraelNN.com) The National Security Council and the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS) held their first strategic dialogue this past week, from September 2-8, in China. The CIISS is part of China's Defense Ministry.

According to a statement from the NSC, "NSC Chairman Ilan Mizrahi held a series of discussions with his Chinese interlocutors. The talks focused on Middle Eastern and Asian regional issues, including Iran."

CIISS Director and former Chinese People’s Liberation Army Deputy Chief-of-Staff Xiong Guangkai said that the CIISS-NSC dialogue would be held at least once a year, alternating between Israel and China. The next round of talks will be held in Israel.

Here's a snippet from my local hometown newspaper. I don't quite know what to think about it:

The attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, brought many irrevocable differences.

With thousands of lives lost, many people said they would change their own lives. Six years later, a number of area residents feel their daily lives have remained mostly the same.

Justin Perryman, 23, of Kenosha, did make a significant change due to Sept. 11. The attacks, in part, led him to join the Coast Guard at the age of 18. He served with the Coast Guard for four years, but has had little change in his civilian life.

"There's nothing day-to-day that's really changed because of 9/11," Perryman said.

A few people were looking to move past the memories of that day.

"I think it's time for people to move on," said Doris Martin, 63, of Kenosha. "We have to learn to rebuild and keep going on."

Rob Wendell, 24, of Kenosha, has already done so.

"I could honestly care less about it," Wendell said about the anniversary while fishing on Monday.

You know, I have lived a long time. And in all my years, it is only since 911 that I have heard the United States of America referred to by anyone at anytime as "the Homeland." I've heard it called the USA, the Nation and just "home" but never "homeland" - which to me smacks of "The Motherland" and "The Fatherland." It makes us sound like Nazi Germany or Communist Russia.

In addition to possibly curing cancer could this be used to run a car engine etc?

Possibly. It depends on how many kilocalories per mole (6.03 E23 atoms) , kCal/M, it yields. My first thought was that it might make a decent propellant system for low-pressure/low-to-medium thrust applications in space, like maneuver motors for medium-range probes or attitude control systems. The use of salt water would reduce chances of freezing in the tanks or lines, as long as ambient stayed above the point at which NaCL/H2O disassociation takes place (about -210 Celsius, IIRC- which I probably don't as freshman chem was a long time ago).

Still, the idea of sonically-induced combustion of seawater (for crying out loud) sounds like the plot hook for a James Bond movie.

Or an episode of any Gerry Anderson or Irwin Allen TV series, for that matter.

Totally lame.
OBL is long dead. First we get a video of some look-alike (they've had years to find a suitable doppelganger, and it turns out to be a "younger" Osama) who mumbles into his beard as the sound-alike (who has appeared in previous lame tapes threatening death and destruction) reads a script written by an American traitor who was raised on a hippie goat farm and spends far too much time on Kos.
Now we get a snapshot of the same loser and some insane drivel.

Once again, no attack by al queda. Just a bunch of talk.
Round them up and shoot them. It's really the kindest thing you could do for such a bunch of thumbsuckers.

U.S. Officials Begin Crafting Iran Bombing Plan

WASHINGTON — A recent decision by German officials to withhold support for any new sanctions against Iran has pushed a broad spectrum of officials in Washington to develop potential scenarios for a military attack on the Islamic regime, FOX News confirmed Tuesday.

Pretty sure we were planning this before the Germans went soft on us. And think about the Germans would rather we bomb them then put more sanctions in place. I smell lucrative business deals between Iran and Germany.

I went to the New Republic site to see if they had a response to the Pajama's Media expose. They didn't, but they had this story, Back in the USSR, which ironically, is worth reading:

... The less attention we pay to Russia, the more incentive we give Vladimir Putin and his successors to demonstrate that they are a power to be reckoned with and to act in ways that will be increasingly problematic. Already we see Russia staking out claims to the Arctic and its riches; manipulating its oil and gas supplies for political purposes; supporting separatist movements in neighboring states or what it calls the "near abroad"; and selling arms to rogue regimes like Iran and Syria. (The Russians are in the process of upgrading significantly Iran's air defense and have also been providing Syria large numbers advanced anti-air and anti-tank missiles; when the Syrians turned over some of these weapons to Hezbollah, the Russians looked the other way.)

To understand Russia's behavior and develop the right strategies for dealing with it, we need to appreciate the impact that lost status has had on the Russian psyche and the imperative it has created to restore the country's standing as a world power. Few non-Russians mourned the passing of the Soviet Union, but within the country, there is deep resentment of the United States for winning the cold war. Putin has called the collapse of the USSR one of the greatest geopolitical "tragedies of the twentieth century."

I don't feel the Russians' pain -- they had it coming. And their efforts to start a new cold war should be met with a mailed fist.

A power plant burned a bunch of coal to generate steam to generate motion in a turbine to generate electricity to generate the radio frequency waves to split the water. Dead On Topic -

Ankara On High Alert As Mega-Terror Attack is Foiled

A citizen’s report to security authorities of a suspicious Mercedes Vito van parked in a multi-story car parking in the heart of the capital helped foil a mega terror attack in Turkey, on the anniversary of 9/11.

The car park, that is located in a busy district near school grounds, hospitals and many businesses was isolated, and all surrounding buildings were evacuated before the 700 lb. explosive was destroyed by security forces that employed every precaution.

The first evaluation by bomb experts was that this was a “mini atomic bomb”, of the same kind used in 2003 bombings of two synagogues, the British Consulate and a British Bank in Istanbul by Islamist Turks affiliated with Al Qaeda, that had killed over 60 people.

There is a massive search going on in Ankara to hunt down the three suspects that were recorded by the parking cameras as they were leaving the vehicle.

It is reported that authorities had been receiving warnings for a major terror attack in Turkey. High ranking military officials had in their recent speeches also warned about the possibility for such attacks in major Turkish cities.

my only question is why haven't they hit us in the homeland again. other than that they consider iraq to be the key battlefield at this time. Some one should really get the clue bat out and hit the copperheads with it.

I don't know who thought this one up, but I would love to shove it down their throat. "Homeland" security my *** - call it what it has always been: NATIONAL Security. We are a NATION, not just some "homeland."

I agree absolutely with your sentiment (although I'm not American, but I feel the same way about my home Canada). Trouble is, multiculturalism is completely eroding any sense of "nation" among our respective populations.

Out of the country then?
Yep.
Did you get a sense of what the Soviet Space Station astronauts felt like when they woke up one morning and discovered there was no Soviet Union anymore to bring them back down? Be out of the country, brand new in another country, with little kids depending on you and your bank account is in New York, you don't have all that much money in yer pockets - and all flights to & from the USA grounded indefinitely. Couldn't bail out and go home even if we had wanted to (and we did), with no idea if money was going to come in or not and no concept as to what the USA was going to do.
Felt a bit like that - until Bush began to broadcast that he was mad as hell, then it got much better.

BBC Tells Kids 911 U.S. Fault

The way America has got involved in conflicts in regions like the Middle East has made some people very angry, including a group called al-Qaeda - who are widely thought to have been behind the attacks.
In the past, al-Qaeda leaders have declared a holy war - called a jihad - against the US. As part of this jihad, al-Qaeda members believe attacking US targets is something they should do.

When the attacks happened in 2001, there were a number of US troops in a country called Saudi Arabia, and the leader of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, said he wanted them to leave.

When in high school chemistry class we were making hydrogen gas using electrolysis and collecting the gas in water filled test tubes. With the experiment finished I grabbed a chunk of rubber tubing and the striker. The teacher saw this and ran over to immediately put a halt to the side experiment.

When this gets shut down as bad science the engineering troothers will claim that another great invention was quashed by the oil companies. It takes a whole lot of energy to separate oxygen from hydrogen (more than you get when you burn oxygen and hydrogen) otherwise this experiment could result in a perpetual motion machine (more energy out than you put in).

Disclaimer-I are not an engineer...

My thought on making it a viable alternative to gasoline is this:
1. Does the reaction yield more energy than is put into starting it?
2. If yes to 1 then since it looks very low pressure reaction as opposed to explosive (for all I know it could be explosive etc) could that be used to run a steam engine setup that generates electricity and could be used in place of huge batteries to run an electric car...
or
3. If it can yield explosive energy would it work more efficiently in a non-piston rotary engine (can't think of the Japanese car company that developed and uses it currently).

Just a few thoughts about helping to break the oil tic's grip and save a few bucks along the way...

Heeey... maybe this guy just reinvented the car that runs on water that the (old school) truthers said the oil companies buried... where's the tinfoil...

Disclaimer #2 - not a chemical engineer... although I did Chem Tech for high school... 20 odd years ago...

However this doesn't look like it is just electrolysis - they are using salt water so there is more than just "loosening the bonds of the h20" going on IMO and the other materials involved may actually be being supersaturated (on a chemical bond level?) and be reacting to reform their bonds... or it could just be that the salt portion allows the radio waves to perform the same effect of electrolysis on the h20... it could also be some combination of the two or maybe something totally different...

Not breaking out the checkbook just yet... you're correct-if the whole setup is the equivalent of taking a match to a chunk of wood and the wood is doing the rest of the burning then it's a good thing but if the whole thing is the equivalent of having to stand there with a flamethrower to make charcoal then it's not a breakthrough for transportation... it looks like air is in the mix though and iirc both sodium and chloride can have violent reactions when exposed to the air and ignited-the radio waves may be setting this up as opposed to anything really happening with the h20 part of the equation... who knows...

IMO a good way to explain that steel melts/loses strength is to explain how Sherman's troops made neckties out of railroad tracks in the Civil War at lower temps than the steel in the two towers withstood... then make sure they know the difference between a few hefty Union soldiers twisting rail and a load bearing beam with literally tons upon tons of pressure on it...

I'm voting Osama is alive but non-compos ( I mean - more than just his obvious nuts - catatonic or drooling - AIDS related dementia. )

No - that's not be being nasty or snarky. That's my serious bet.

Reasoning?
a) Arafat. (Need I say more?)
b) The brief rumor of dialysis-for-no-good-reason. (In a cave. In Afghanistan.)

The second is significant if one knows a bit about medical alchemy (aka the Islamic view of medicine) wherein most illness is seen as an imbalance or impurity of the 'humors' - primarily of the blood and/or urine.

There are enough 'friendly' nations where Osama B could have been treated ( openly or covertly )for a kidney failure or almost any disease for which dialysis is the *legitimate* treatment - provided he wanted to risk a legitimate diagnosis. (And risk the details thereof getting out. ) This do-it-yourself suggests he had something that he *didn't* want to acknowledge.

As for the treatment chosen? Well, if one is a fanatic with a 7th century education and world view? See above.

But I don't think Osama's actually room temperature yet.

If he was, we'd have heard the story of his miraculous assent into heaven ( there's another trope ) from atop the minarets of Mecca. Plus one or more of the 'deputies' would have let his ego take over and announced his... takeover.

re: #125 Perplexed

It takes a whole lot of energy to separate oxygen from hydrogen (more than you get when you burn oxygen and hydrogen

I strongly suspect it takes *exactly* the same amount to separate it, that you get when you recombine it. Except it's not so easy to get the separation energy just where you want it, just as it's not so easy to capture ALL the energy when you recombine it, so there is no danger of perpetual motion occurring.

However this doesn't look like it is just electrolysis - ...

Yes, it looks like it is just electrolysis, the overriding of the molecular bond by external energy, except the old electrode method is probably 10x more efficient. I vaguely recall you want to put some ions (eg, salt) in the water to facilitate the process for yada yada reason, whether you're doing it with microwaves or D-cells batteries.

You know you can generate electricity by sticking electrodes in a potato? My gosh, think of the green power! And, and, maybe if I stick electrodes into a cancer, it will suck out all the energy and recharge my cell phone! I need a $50,000,000 government grant immediately, but I'm afraid the AMA and OPEC will prevent it. It's the system, man.

The one good thing about bin Laden or his puppet masters taking to the airwaves again is that it should put paid to the idiot troofers who keep saying 9/11 is an inside job. How have they explained away bin Laden's previous claims? Is he under the control of Bush as well?

Whether he's the real thing or a double behind the dark beard, (totalitarians are always reluctant to admit their leaders have shuffled off the mortal coil) they've got the last will and testament of the suicide box-cutter pilots that the troofers claim were what...innocent passengers? phantoms? as supposedly there were no planes going down in a field or hitting the Pentagon and the ones we all saw hit the towers were apparently over-kill or a distraction as the buildings were coincidentally brought down by controlled demolitionwith charges set at night over months by the demolition dwarves...my head hurts anytime I try to recreate a troofer's meandering delirium.

Every conspiracy theorist should shut up now, or be carted off to the looney bin where they belong.

I am asking that people go to "petition online" and sign the petition called "France2" asking a French television company which has been sitting on film for the last 7 years which shows that the Israeli military did not shoot a child in cold blood who died in his father's arms and which created lots of anti Israeli sentiment in Europe but in fact the kid was acting and woke up after the death scene. The reporter who reported on this is being sued for defamation and the television company is saying that they don't want to release the film because they don't want to upset the public or some stupid thing. Prager had the reporter on this morning and not many people signed the petition. The reporter's name is Philippe Karsenty

It regards the alleged death of Muhamed Al-Durah

Isn't it possible that before Bin Laden died he spoke into a recorder a variety of words like Bush and Rumsfield and 9/11 and crusader and matyr and Mohammed and Islam and USA and Israel and Big Satan and Little Satan and death and destruction will rain on you and convert now, and join now, and anything they thought might be useful in the future and that they can just string along these words and make new speeches anytime they want to like a computer generated voice with his voice? They have machines where you can record a sound and then compose with that sound.

Eastern Michigan University didn't recognize in anyway shape or form, muhc less memorialize, 9/11 yesterday. They are most definitely not alone in such a disgrace.

That's my good ole Alma Matter for you. They spend tens of thousands of dollars on MLK day and nothing on 9/11 or virtually anything to celebrate our American Soldiers and the ROTC students on campus for their bravery and sacrifice.

Sorry that your alma mater acts this way.
This is the same school that tried to cover up the murder of a coed by a Muslim student. Bad for business

Also ties back to #2 and #65;

There is no surplus or unexploited (chemical) energy in saltwater. The energy producing reactions have already happened- 2H +1/2 O2 to make the water and Na + Cl to make the salt. We are at the "bottom of the hill" chemically with saltwater, it will take energy to split the water or to mess around with the sodium and/or chlorine ions. This will take more energy than the resulting flame or plasma (or whatever!) produces because there are always losses.

At best this MIGHT be a way to produce hydrogen more efficiently, but it will not produce a net energy gain. Any supposed catalytic effect (by resonating at the "frequency of platinum"!) or "loosening" the hydrogen bond to make "HHO" instead of H2O is hokum and hand-waving. It is NOT "burning" the saltwater, saltwater cannot burn, it has already burned.

The shame of it is that John Kanzius has now gotten Professor Rustum Roy to support him. Roy is a chemist and materials scientist (which is my field) of substanial note who did work of some importance, but appears to be getting a bit daft in his advancing years (he has recently tried to prove homeopathy). Roy claims that they will take the process to the federal labs;
"Roy will meet this week with officials from the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense to try to obtain research funding." [Link: www.foxnews.com...]

I hope they don't waste too much taxpayer money re-proving the laws of thermodynamics!

Just wait, I will bet that Kanzius will next claim some sort of fusion is going on, so the "Kanzius Effect" can produce energy by a means beyond chemical reaction. He will turn into a cold fusion nutter and another "Free Lunch Here!" scheme will join the heap.
