Online Petition Started Against Columbus Dispatch Iran Cartoon...

Dear Editor, I am appalled and disgusted by the cartoon printed in The Columbus Dispatch on tuesday September the 4th, 2007 depicting Iran as a sewer infested with cockroaches. Such cartoons are not only a display of bad taste and poor insight, but are an ugly and racist depiction bordering on Nazi hatred toward other nations.

If there was Holocaust, what was "Palestinian" people's role in it?

Well, put it this way, they should still be paying reparations for their role in it:

"The Mufti was one of the initiators of the systematic extermination of European Jewry and had been a collaborator and adviser of Eichmann and Himmler in the execution of this plan... He was one of Eichmann’s best friends and had constantly incited him to accelerate the extermination measures. I heard him say, accompanied by Eichmann, he had visited incognito the gas chambers of Auschwitz." - Dieter Wisliceny, Eichmann's Deputy

The problem with us in the west is that we are far too nice to our declared enemies. We talk nice to them. We expend vast amounts of energy trying to engage them in and find solutions to our differences via diplomacy. We offer them bushels of carrots if only they would agree to stop doing this one leetle bad thing.

Wouldn't it just be much more expedient, and frankly, cost effective to deal with a guy like Ahmadinejad by way of, for instance, the same means the Taliban used to remove an obstacle to their plans - Ahmed Shah Massood?

This is war. It's dirty. It's disgusting. And we must prevail.

46 tarkus  Thu, Sep 13, 2007 9:29:32am

First of all there are no controversies about the holocaust. Research about it has been well established. If you read about the Deborah Lipstadt's experience when she was sued under british law by holocaust-denier david irving, now serving in prison in Austria for holocaust denial, you see what this holocaust campaign is about: Using the trappings of scholarship to advance an anti-semetic agenda. Second, why doesn't ahmadinejad use his standard that events much be researched to see whether there is any evidence that Mohammad was actually a prophet. I'll stand with the evidence of the holocaust any day...l

Translantic jet diverted to Shannon because passenger " giving off signals"
which raised concerns with passengers and crew.

Prayer time on board translantic jet

What is not in this link is a report from The Irish Times court reporter which had the perp " demanding to see the pilot "
Captn. Andrew Henshaw said his security trainng dictated that he should not leave the flight deck if there was a perceived threat. " We have been told that future attacks could be based on drawing the pilot out of the cockpit. "

Note that diversion to Shannon could be a tactic as Shannon is the main rest and refuel stopover for troops on their way to Iraq.

re: #24 Spiritualized

That's exactly what I shouted at the TV when I was watching it live.
Its disgusting to see this sicko being given air-time.

WeaselZipper (#18),

Online Petition Started Against Columbus Dispatch Iran Cartoon...

They're not going to get much traction with that.

The Editor of the Dispatch gets it.

Dear sir or madame:

Thank you for writing to The Dispatch.

You apparently are responding to a call from the Council of American-Islamic relations to write to me and to cartoonist Michael Ramirez to complain about a cartoon about the Iraqi regime’s support of violent extremists and terrorists throughout the Middle East.

CAIR claims the cartoon demeans all Iranians as cockroaches. But since the drain cover depicted in the cartoon is clearly labeled with “Iran” and “extremism” it is clear that the cartoon refers only to those elements of the Iranian regime who support extremism. In other words, it doesn’t come close to labeling all Iranians as cockroaches.

CAIR also likens the cartoon to Nazi propaganda. This is a remarkable display of intellectual gymnastics. Iranian President Ahmadinejad has called for the destruction of the Jewish state and questions the Holocaust, while his regime tries to develop nuclear weapons. If CAIR is truly concerned about the promotion of Nazi ideas and the use of Nazi methods, it should direct its attention to Tehran.

CAIR’s claims that its mission is to promote understanding of Islam and combat anti-Islamic information and anti-Islamic attitudes. That’s an honorable mission when it is directed at legitimate grievances.

In this case, CAIR has misrepresented this cartoon and missed the mark by fabricating a false grievance.

All the best,

Glenn Sheller
Editorial Page Editor
The Columbus Dispatch
gsheller@dispatch.com

Please everyone write a quick note of support to Glenn Sheller. Last I heard he'd received hundreds of emails denouncing this cartoon and only 10 in support. Do something.

WAY OT, but interesting to NFL fans:

The NFL is discussing docking New England one or more draft picks in response to allegations that the Patriots violated a league rule by videotaping Jets defensive coaches on the sideline of their game against New York on Sunday, FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports.

"Although it remains a league matter, I want to apologize to everyone who has been affected, most of all ownership, staff and players," Belichick said. "Following the league's decision, I will have further comment."

All I can say is, as a professional sports head coach, dress like a dirtbag, you're probably a dirtbag.

Not that nascar is a glowing example of how to run your league, but get caught cheating and receive financial AND standings punishment. The Patriots should forfeit that game, loose it from their record and finish only playing 15 games. No playoffs for your 'dynasty'...Enough is enough of this bullshit in sports.

Hamas urges no border attacks

The Hamas government has urged Gaza militants not to attack border crossings with Israel in order to ensure the flow of basic goods into Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Hamas gunmen, along with militants from other groups, have been involved in rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli targets, including border crossings, and the statement by government spokesman Taher Nunu marked a change of position.

"The government calls on the Palestinian factions to avoid shelling the crossing points, in the interest of our people, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and to keep commercial traffic going and protect security and stability in Gaza," the statement said.

It was not clear whether other militants would heed the call.

Any bets. I give 10 to 1 on no way in hell will they stop. How about just stop sending the "Basic goods" and let them fend for themselves. Let the overlords from Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia feed them.

Yup.

They had a poll too it was comical.

Something like (to the Iranians):

Do you want more normalized relations with the US?

68% said yes
20-something% said "we need Nukes"

Very strange poll.

Then they showed clips of "moderates" chanting "Death to USA" and "Death to Israel," men leading their women around the markets.

It was sad. Lauer was trying his hardest to make it seem like a wonderful place.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A key Sunni sheik who united with U.S. forces to fight al Qaeda militants in Iraq was assassinated Thursday by a roadside bomb, officials said.

Abu Reesha, 39, was head of the Anbar Salvation Council -- also known as the Anbar Awakening -- a coalition of tribes that has been working with the U.S. military to counter al Qaeda in Sunni-dominated Anbar province.

re: #175 gop_patriot

Yup big ol jew hater, he also gave his kids drugs.

Guy was a piece of shit.

Anti-Israelism and Anti-Semitism
In the summer of 1983, he wrote a review for the Literary Review of the book God Cried by Newsweek writer Tony Clifton, a picture book about the invasion of Lebanon by Israel. Dahl's review stated that the Israeli attack on Lebanon in June 1982 was when "we all started hating Israel," and that the book would make readers "violently anti-Israeli". According to biographer Jeremy Treglown, Dahl had originally written "when we all started hating Jews" - but editor Gillian Greenwood of the Literary Review changed Dahl's terms from "Jews" and "Jewish" to "Israel" and "Israeli".[citation needed]

On the basis of the published version, Dahl would later claim, "I am not anti-Semitic. I am anti-Israel."[6] Dahl believed that his review kept him from being knighted, which was reportedly an ambition of his.[7] Perhaps due to his hopes for a knighthood, in 1986 Dahl had turned down the award of an OBE, according to government papers which were leaked in 2003.[8]

According to at least two biographers,[9] when defending his review he told a journalist that same year: "There's a trait in the Jewish character that does provoke animosity . . . I mean there is always a reason why anti-anything crops up anywhere; even a stinker like Hitler didn't just pick on them for no reason." Nonetheless, according to Treglown, Dahl maintained friendships with a handful of individual Jews.

In later years, Dahl occasionally tried to downplay some of the accusations of anti-Semitism. He included a sympathetic episode about German-Jewish refugees in his book Going Solo, and on another occasion he claimed that he was opposed to injustice, not Jews.[citation needed] He never retreated from his strong stance against Israel, however, and shortly before his death in 1990 he had told, according to Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League, the British newspaper The Independent in an interview that "I am certainly anti-Israel, and I have become anti-Semitic."[10]

Tried to look ist up.
The cartoon is gone.
The dispatch has the 9-3 and the 9-5 cartoon in its archive.
The 9-4 one is gone. How sorry some people are, is just mind boggling.

N. Korea, Syria May Be at Work on Nuclear Facility

North Korea may be cooperating with Syria on some sort of nuclear facility in Syria, according to new intelligence the United States has gathered over the past six months, sources said. The evidence, said to come primarily from Israel, includes dramatic satellite imagery that led some U.S. officials to believe that the facility could be used to produce material for nuclear weapons.

The new information, particularly images received in the past 30 days, has been restricted to a few senior officials under the instructions of national security adviser Stephen J. Hadley, leaving many in the intelligence community unaware of it or uncertain of its significance, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Some cautioned that initial reports of suspicious activity are frequently reevaluated over time and were skeptical that North Korea and Syria, which have cooperated on missile technology, would have a joint venture in the nuclear arena

There seems to be much, much more to last weeks raid than first reported.

I'm sorry, I don't get your point. It's Ok to film MLB and have the whole world (including rival teams) rewatch everything, but it's not ok for the NFL?

Dinnerjacket managed to do what no other Iranian President did so far: He inadvertently created a bipartisan sense of urgency against the Mullah regime, unlike former President and media darling Khatami, who was regarded as a reformist.

Please don't. I've only got so many white knuckles!

Don't worry. BZ would also pray in English and be asking for safety for the plane and all its passengers, including you.

A tiny bit of difference, there, blue person.

Slippery little fellow. Anyone notice that MINI MO never answers a question ?

There`s no point in interviewing him since it just becomes a propaganda op.

(OT: What "made in China" will get you:)

Went to your "made in China" link.
That's horrible!
Has anyone else noticed a weird petrochemical stink coming from items such as black plastic bags used by some stores?
I also noticed the same smell from some Kiwi black shoe polish I bought (had to wipe it off my shoes with foaming glass and surface cleaner and let them air out for a few days outside, because I was afraid of a similar reaction, plus my shoes just plain stunk) and the cardboard six-pack container of some "Cintra" Brazilian beer (pretty good beer) I bought a few days ago. I think the stink was coming from the ink used on the six-pack carrier.
I threw the six-pack carrier in the recycling bin, and when I opened it today, I could smell the ghastly chemical fumes.
I bet all these items were made in China.

So, can we question their patriotism now?

...oh crap. Sorry. I thought that was Alan Colmes for a second there.

Leftist democrats, go to hell. You too Dinnerjacket.

I smell the winds of change, and the libs smell it too...but they think it's their "Depends". It's not. It's a bucking of what they've been shoving down America's throat for two decades...the new movement is( leftists need to sit at this point in the post)...

LOVE AMERICA FIRST!

If you want to hate your country, that's fine...but the rest of us are about sick of it and I, for one would love to ram my patriotic American flag pole as far up

I'm with comments 2 and 4. He is playing to a specific audience here in the West, and they are lapping it up.
