Nail bomb explodes in Liverpool

Friday September 21, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

A nail bomb exploded today inside a car belonging to a teacher at a leading Liverpool school, police said.

The explosion, shortly before 3pm, seriously damaged the vehicle parked outside St Edward's College, a private Catholic school in West Derby. No one was injured in the blast.

Speaking outside the school, Superintendent Ian Pilling from Merseyside Police said the explosion appeared to have been timed to coincide with the end of the school day.

I don't have any problem with President Ahminenutjob visiting Ground Zero, or Columbia University, or anywhere else where he won't find any national security interests.

Maybe he might learn something himself.

And why are we so afraid of this guy? He may want to destroy this nation, but he doesn't have the power to do so, and he's not going to get the power by visiting ground zero or Columbia University.

Saying "no" to him on such symbolic issues shows fear and weakness, not confidence and strength.

Man dies in hotel plunge
Military and Security 9/21/2007 4:48:00 PM

LONDON, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- A man plunged to his death from the 19th floor of a fashionable hotel in central London Friday after a three-hour stand-off, police said.
Police negotiators were unable to prevent the man, in his 20s, falling from the Hilton Hotel, in Park Lane.
Emergency services were called to the hotel to reports of a man standing on a ledge early this morning.
Paramedics attended the man when he landed on the flat roof of a second-floor building.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said he was pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem examination will take place later today.
She added that negotiators spoke to the man from an adjacent balcony and through the room door prior to his fall. They did not enter the hotel room.
A cordon was set up around the scene of the incident, but Park Lane remained open to traffic.
No details of the mans identity or the reason for his fall have been given by the police. (end) he.tg KUNA 211648 Sep 07NNN

And don't forget the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. I'm sure Mahmoud would be happy to pose for a photo, maybe giving the museum the finger, or holding up a sign saying "Let's Do It Again!". Like most others here,I too am offended on a deeply profound level at Achmad-din-jihads request.I think that he would only use it for propaganda purposes upon his return to Iran,a thing to be exploited in the war that has existed between the USA and Iran since 1979.I personally believe that he should not be allowed to remain in the country any longer than it takes his motorcade to drive from the JFK Airport to the UN for his anti-US rant and back. The man is the leader of the foremost sponser of terrorist activity on the planet, much of it directed at the US,and some of it beyond question (by any with a fuctioning brain) directed at US Service Personel in Iraq. He is fortunate that the UN Treaty forces us to allow him into the country at all.(Another reason to ship the UN off to some far more deserving place such as Zimbabwe).

Gordon
I don't have any problem with President Ahminenutjob visiting Ground Zero, or Columbia University, or anywhere else where he won't find any national security interests.

Maybe he might learn something himself.

And why are we so afraid of this guy? He may want to destroy this nation, but he doesn't have the power to do so, and he's not going to get the power by visiting ground zero or Columbia University.

Saying "no" to him on such symbolic issues shows fear and weakness, not confidence and strength.

AFRAID? It's not afraid...It's like hogshit. Im not afraid of it. I just don't want it on me

Do they honestly believe their own blustering crap?

Let's imagine for a second that they wouldn't be shot down two minutes after leaving Iranian airspace. After 14,000 miles what exactly, pray tell, are they going to do?

30-year old airplanes held together with duct-tape, now with extra fuel tanks. What could go wrong?

I was amused by their pride in saying their home-grown fighters are "similar to an F-5." Oh, ah, right, wasn't that one obsolete in the U.S. inventory sometime around 1970?

I suspect that they're off by a factor of ten on their distance. Most American fighters have a combat range of about 1,000 miles (give or take a few hundred depending on weapons load-out, but can go much further with buddy stores and in flight refueling. 15,000 miles would suggest that they've got nothing but fuel on board and have found new and exciting ways to ignore the laws of physics. I call BS.

This lie is similar in scope to the "600 missiles" claim. Iran has more 40 year old F-4's than any other plane (~30) And MAYBE 6 flyable F-14's.

Those F14 pilots gonna stink something fierce after that flight; they will need diapers.

Also, I am not sure about this but the fuel for such a flight be of equal volume to the size of the F14 itself. the plane's base configuration calls for a range of 1600NM.

Yes there is air to air refueling but I don't think Iran has any tankers and even if they had them, I doubt their pilots could use them without crashing.

Gordon, I must disagree.

I believe exactly the opposite as to the effect of saying "no." This... "man" has one goal in mind - that's to honor the 19 hijackers who brought down the towers. It's, as the NYPost described, serious chutzpah, but let's think about what it does for his message.

The way I see it, here Dinnerjacket is a supporter and enabler of terrorism. It's been proven time and time again (See Cox and Forkum for a full roundup of known Iranian involvement which has existed for over two years now) that Iran and Dinnerjacket do so. They believe in it. They support it. Now, what would it show but absolute weakness on OUR part if we cave to his desires to see the WTC site?

The whole world knows Iran is involved in the Iraq war, supporting the guys who are killing our troops. Yet here we're allowing him to not only enter the country, which is rather audacious in itself, but to visit what remains of a disaster that his country supported. It's a posturing act on his part to show how he has no fear of the infidel and how much we fear him by letting him do this.

This is an absolute perversion of sanity and justice. It's a perversion of the memories of those who perished in the towers, when we know full well that the attackers were enabled by terrorist funding, which Iran supports.

Someone mentioned the idea of Bush visiting Mecca - he would never be allowed close because infidels are forbidden from coming too close to Mecca itself. There's even exits on the interstates in Saudi Arabia.

No, standing up to this despicable bastard and telling him to kindly go outside and play hide and go f@#$ himself doesn't show any fear - it shows that we're not going to put up with his asinine attempts at disgusting publicity and the politicizing of the deaths from WTC - nay, the violation of their memory so that Dinnerjacket can have an Islamic photo-op.

Sounds to me like the General's last piece of cheese has slid off his cracker.

Space aliens! And laser beams! And cool helmets with antennas! And big busty women in prison clothes all oiled up and sweaty! And big rough sweaty Marines kick down the door and chaos ensues!

Sounds like the General has given up on Washington and is auditioning for Hollywood screenwriter.

Saying "no" to him on such symbolic issues shows fear and weakness, not confidence and strength.

Symbols can have a powerful resonance and right now there's no more a powerful symbol in this country than Ground Zero. I believe that giving Ahminenutjob access to Ground Zero is a symbolic form of surrender to a man who has made a career of waging war on this country, imprisoning and killing its citizens.
Waht you said!

To Nodrog:

As usual you have it exactly backwards. Giving in to Ahmadinejad's theatrics is a sign of fear & weakness. Standing up to a thug and a bully is strength.

Iran Increases F14 Traveling Distance
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran's air force said that his troops have succeeded in increasing the traveling distance of the US F14 fighter jets to 14,000 miles.
Why would they want to fly that far. Huuummm I wonder.

Those jets are powered by the hopes and dreams of little girls and boys, mixed with powdered unicorn horns and suspended in Jimmy Carter's most sentient thoughts.

Heh. Good luck with that. Maybe you're unaware of the fact that Kerry has no records to substantiate his Purple Hearts. None. Gordon, or whomever the hell he claims to be, might as well look for Kerry's MagicHat. Kerry obviously ate mushrooms with Jane and her brother Peter, and toked on too many hash pipes.

I know what the process is for the reception of a Purple Heart with proper documentation. He doesn't have it.

re: #17 Gordon

You've been told why you are wrong more than once, but I'll tell you again.

Why it's wrong is that it gives this man - who stiffles freedoms in his own country, kills US soldiers, denies the Holocaust, and threatens to wipe Israel off the map - a PR victory. His ilk is what the GWOT is all about standing up against and they are very crafty at how they use the press.

I'll tell you what, though. If he renounces all forms of terror, admits he mispoke on the holocaust, cracks down hard on the terror exporters and promotes freedom of the press and free speech for his political opponents, and if we see that he is willing to live peacefully with all of his neighbors, and if he can do that for 6 months...Then I will accept that he has submitted. He can then come to NYC and visit and speak at any university he wants. I'll even buy him lunch. But as it stands now, no way this should be allowed to happen. If necessary, the governor or prez should intervene.

I would add the comment that the confrontation between the West and Islamofascism is at least as much about resolve as it is about military might. As is the confrontation with Iran over its nuclear program. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ahmadinejad's real objective is PR to use, to convince the US that Iran is not a nuclear threat because look at how civilised he is - honoring the fallen of 911, when that confrontation comes to a head, as surely it must soon.
