Islamic Grievance Theater in Canadian Prison

Sat, Sep 22, 2007 at 9:25:36 am PDT

The Correctional Service of Canada has awarded $2000 and a “human rights victory” to an incarcerated Muslim criminal, because the prison refused to replace the bacon in his breakfast.

A Muslim inmate has won $2,000 and a partial human rights victory over a Correctional Service of Canada policy not to replace bacon with a halal diet for Islam-worshipping cons.

Duane David, who is serving time in Kingston’s Joyceville Institution for an unknown crime, had complained to the Canadian Human Rights Commission that his rights were being violated as the prison failed to offer a halal replacement for bacon served to inmates with breakfast every Wednesday.

The court heard Muslims are forbidden from eating pork for religious reasons.

A Federal Court of Canada hearing was told the breakfast included three pieces of bacon, two eggs, three slices of toast, jam, ketchup, milk, coffee, juice and cereal.

“Muslim inmates who follow a halal diet (usually) receive all of these items, except the bacon,” Madame Justice Eleanor Dawson was told. “Mr. David had requested a substitute for the three pieces of bacon, but the request was refused by the institution.”

Court heard that an internal grievance filed by David for a bacon replacement was denied at all levels and then a complaint was filed to the commission, whose investigator ruled the matter had been properly dealt with.

French riot police battle the migrants queueing to get into Britain

Riot police are patrolling French ports to combat the increasing violence caused by illegal immigrants bound for Britain.

The authorities in Calais, Cherbourg and Dunkirk have complained they are increasingly powerless to cope with the growing numbers congregating in makeshift camps.
....
"They do not want to claim asylum here. All they want to do is get to Britain.

"It is a major problem for both countries."

Mr Sarkozy has pledged to deport 25,000 illegal immigrants this year.
....
The mayors said the immigrants are often from war-torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, but there are also economic immigrants attracted to Britain by social security benefits.

One immigrant, claiming to be a 24-year-old Iraqi, said: "All we want to do is get to Britain.

"The police attack us and treat us badly.

"We have no food or accommodation or toilets, so it is little surprise that some of us get into trouble.

"When this trouble happens it makes us even more determined to get to Britain."

We had a similar situation in my battalion of the 82d in the early '70s.

One of my platoon-mates, i.e., another grunt such as I was at that time, was a Muslim.

He didn't mind being offered bacon or pork sausage for breakfast. He just wouldn't take it, when going through the chow line.

However, he did take umbrage when the cooks offered only pork products as the entree at every meal for two days straight.

Talked with our platoon sergeant. Then they went tothe company First Shirt and then the three of them went to the battalion Command Sergeant Major. The four of them had a 'chat' with the First Cook and after that, things were a bit more 'varied'.

This is fucking insane! Prisoners are just that, PRISONERS! They have NO rights whatsoever, none. They lost that when they committed the crime that landed them in the hole in the first place.

If they dont want pork in their meals, just PUSH IT TO THE SIDE OF THE PLATE!

Or they can go hungry or starve, I don't give a shit anymore.

Colorado State University Student Newspaper Under Fire for Bush Editorial

The Colorado State University student newspaper is under fire after publishing a two-word editorial statement about President Bush.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian published the editorial on its Sept. 21 opinion page, saying "Taser this .. (expletive) BUSH."

For one thing, "Taser this .. (expletive) BUSH."
makes no sense. What were they trying to say? Bush had something to do with that 'taser' incident? I'm confused.

This is the same Canadian government that awarded Mahar Arar 10 MILLION dollars. The torture claims, as far as I know, are still unsubstaniated. He was visited by Canadian officials in Syria and they never saw signs of physical torture. Nevermind that it was the American government who flagged Arar. Every Muslim who is arrested in Canada on terrorism charges yells "torture". It must be a common tactic from global terrorist playbooks. Our government caves into every Muslim demand because Canadians still feel sorry for the poor little Muslim "victims" of Islamaphobia. They still recite poverty as the root cause of radical Islam and have NO idea of what they are dealing with. As far as I know (and that's not a great deal), our security services are very stretched. The police forces are trained never to use the word 'Muslim' in a press conference. Radical Muslims have the upper hand in Canada, so don't be surprised at anything my government does. (seething over)

They should make Muslim inmates eat disgusting tofu meat-like products for ALL their meals, because the prison probably doesn't slaughter the meat according to their dietary laws. Then, like Tumulus11 pointed out (#58), there are probably other foods (like marshmallows and gelatin) that they can't eat either, so they can be deprived of those too. They should also make sure that any medicines and medical care (gelatin-capsule medications, insulin from pigs, alcohol-based disinfectants, etc), they receive don't violate their laws either.

Meanwhile, that breakfast has to be a whole lot better than what most people get to eat in the Middle East.

Oh, now this National Post article makes perfect sense to me. Thank goodness the human rights folks in Iran are keeping such a close eye on us. Maybe the results of this lawsuit will make Iran change its mind.

I've copied & pasted the first few paragraphs.

[Link: www.canada.com...]

Iran criticizes Canada's human rights record
Steven Edwards, CanWest News Service
Published: Friday, September 21, 2007

UNITED NATIONS -- In a bid to discredit Canada at the United Nations, Iran is equipping world diplomats with a 70-page booklet on Canada's alleged human rights violations.

Written by Iran "in the name of God," the document asserts that the Canadian government denies its people food, clean water and the right to work.

"Routine unlawful strip and beatings by Canadian police has been a matter of concern for international community," notes the booklet, entitled Report on Human Rights Situation in Canada, adding that "the practice of police is alarming simply because ... it is functioning as if there is no need to have judges."

The publication, which claims its allegations are drawn from "objective and factual information released by authentic and credible international sources," alleges that a range of human rights violation occur in Canada, especially toward aboriginal peoples, refugees and immigrants.

"To the great dismay of the international community, it is a great concern that the rights of women are violated, and no serious attention has been paid in promotion and protection of women's rights in Canada."

Moreover, the document concludes, "Canada's position as a self-declared standard-bearer on human rights has been demoted to a blind-folded-and-bullied follower of the new school of unilateralism and the axis of derailment of international human rights law."

The booklet emerges on the eve of the UN's annual summit, to be attended by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier.

Part of the two men's efforts will be to convince other world leaders to stay on side with a resolution Canada drove through the UN General Assembly in 2006, denouncing Iran's poor human rights record...

175 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Sat, Sep 22, 2007 1:43:29pm

I don't think the issue was that there was bacon on his plate (I don't believe they served it to him, if you read the article) but that they refused to ADD in a substitute food item.

I agree that he should not have bacon put on his plate. What purpose does that serve? I am not for antagonizing anyone just to get my kicks, even if they are criminal Muslims. But it sounds like there was plenty of food on the plate as it is and so why should the prison have to find him a substitute food item? He should not have won this law suit.
