Religion of Peace Strikes Again in Afghanistan

Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 9:48:41 am PDT

Thirty people dead in a suicide bombing on a bus in Kabul.

KABUL (Reuters) - A suicide bomber killed 28 Afghan troops and two civilians on Saturday in an attack on an army bus in Kabul, the Afghan president said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, the deadliest in the Afghan capital since the hard-line Islamist movement was ousted from power for harboring al Qaeda leaders following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

A suicide bomber dressed in army uniform got on the bus carrying Afghan National Army personnel to work, the Defense Ministry said. The blast split the bus into two and shattered shop windows in a central district of the capital.

Police and soldiers piled bodies onto army vehicles. Residents also helped pick up pieces of flesh and put them into plastic bags. A boy stood crying next to a police cordon saying he was looking for his father who sold cigarettes from a hand-cart next to the site of the bomb.

Good news from Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces killed five terrorists and detained 19 suspected terrorists Friday and Saturday during operations throughout Iraq.

Intelligence led Coalition forces to a suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq meeting location southwest of Samarra Friday, where ground forces captured a suspect believed to be the key communications link between senior leaders of al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda in Iraq. The targeted individual is also alleged to be responsible for the movement of numerous suicide bombers into Iraq. In addition to the targeted individual, Coalition forces detained nine suspected terrorists on site.

In another precision operation in Samarra Friday, Coalition forces were engaged by small arms fire when they approached a target building. The ground force continued to receive fire from the building and, responding in self-defense, called for close air support to defend against the enemy force, killing five terrorists. During the operation, Coalition forces discovered rocket-propelled grenades, rifles, ammunition, and an improvised explosive device on site. Three buildings and the large cache of weapons were safely destroyed to prevent further use by terrorists.

KABUL, Afghanistan: President Hamid Karzai offered Saturday to meet personally with Taliban leader Mullah Omar for peace talks and give the militants a high position in a government ministry as a way to end the rising insurgency in Afghanistan.

Sorry to go OT so soon, but I'm kind of angry:

Here it is, Saturday night, and I don't have any money.

Why?

Because my Zionist LGF check bounced~!

When I called the office, it was closed and I can't reach Carol in HR.

Really, really messed up my weekend, too.

Thanks, LGF.

Thanks for nothing.

I DIDN'T GET PAID, MA!

I have rent to cover, no food in the fridge and I've got no money in my pockets.

The local leprechaun landlord is threatening to throw me out of my cave...

I think the other poster might be right: it must have been an anti-Semite at the bank that marked it NSF.

I'm going to try depositing it again on Monday morning and see what happens.

I'll update you all then.

Well this suicide bombing — because of it the islamic world will eventually lie in ashes, we can't go on like this , humanity can't have this islamic plague; when I see another human being I do not want to wonder if I am seeing explosives.

re: #30 Mambo Bananapatch

I take issue with Karzai here; I don't think reforming Islam is the answer as he implies; no-one wants to live next to a 'reformed' nazi for instance.

That is what I think & too bad if someone disagrees.

32 Maui Girl  Sat, Sep 29, 2007 2:16:47pm

My question is how the bomber managed to get on the military bus in the first place, loaded down with explosives attached to his body. Obviously no one is paying close enough attention. Hopefully this will change.

As far as Karzai's offer to Omar ol buddy, another sign of insanity. Rewarding bad behaviour only begets more bad behaviour.

With a big enough bomb you wouldn't have to be on the bus - just close by.

How can this be?

According the the BBC, the Constitution of the Taliban prohibits respecting all previous Constitutions, including the one Karzai rules under. [Link: www.telegraph.co.uk...]

According to the Jawa Report [Link: mypetjawa.mu.nu...]
the whole 10 pager in on line at Laura Mansfield
[Link: blog.lauramansfield.com...]
But she is requiring you to subscribe to her "stratigic translations service to read it.

Anyway some of the money quotes:
Article 34: Freedom of expression and statement, within the Islamic Sharia limits, is inviolable. Every Afghan citizen has the right to express his thought through speech, writing, illustration, or other means, according to the provisions stated in the law. (OK, but no blasphemy, apostacy, politics, religion other than Taliban-style or DEATH!)

Article 39: The education of women is regulated within the limits of the Islamic Sharia by a special law. (While totally covered they may learn to cook and clean and make babies.)

Article 41: Preserving the gains of jihad, defending the borders of the Islamic Emirate, and preserving the laws of the people are the responsibility of all citizens of Afghanistan. (So much for the idea that "jihad" is some inner spiritual struggle.)

Article 42: B. Promoting non-Islamic beliefs is prohibited and those who violate this--locals or foreigners--will be tried according to the Sharia. (More DEATH)
(What? Nothing about chess or kites?)

This kind of sophisticated bomb vest is difficult to make. It fit under a jacket light enough to be worn in summer. It almost definitely came from outside Afghanistan.

Iran or Pakistan?

re: #35 mean Gene

I saw the story about this in this morning's paper, and it made my blood boil.

Perhaps I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but if this is how Karzai wants to handle the Taliban, than someone needs to explain to me why American forces are still in Afghanistan. Is this what they are willing to sacrifice their lives for?

How does giving any member of the Taliban a high position in a government ministry make the United States any safer? How does it make Afghanistan any safer?

What on earth am I missing here?!?!?!
