Socky Sockpuppet Lies Again

Mon, Oct 29, 2007 at 9:02:17 am PDT

The left’s most dishonest attack-dog blogger, Glenn Greenwald (aka Rick Ellensburg, aka Socky Sockpuppet) has now pulled another astonishingly mendacious move, in his column for Salon about an email he purportedly received from Colonel Steve Boylan, PAO to General Petraeus.

Details on Greenwald’s sleazy maneuver are at The Dread Pundit Bluto: Full Text of Email Reveals Greenwald Mischaracterizations.

Glenn Greenwald, as he had promised in his post at Salon, has forwarded the email he says he received from Colonel Steven A. Boylan, Public Affairs Officer for General Petraeus.

The parts that Greenwald chose not to publish tend to contradict his characterization of the email as “bizarre” and “unsolicited”. Furthermore, while Greenwald claims that the email doesn’t dispute his paranoid ravings about the military working with rightwing bloggers in the Beauchamp affair, it in fact dismisses them out-of-hand, and quite properly. Greenwald has also redacted the parts of the email that highlight his shoddy research.

In fact, I’d say that Greenwald exceeds mere exaggeration and mischaracterization and flirts with outright lies in that section of his post. Colonel Boylan has not confirmed the authenticity of the letter, and the possibility remains that Greenwald, who has been alleged to use sock puppets in the past, might have faked it.

I hope the Colonel did write it, and, if he did, that he gets a commendation for it.

Read the whole thing...

UPDATE at 10/30/07 8:46:26 am:

Bluto may have jumped the gun on this one; rereading Greenwald’s lengthy, nearly incoherent screed, we see that he did post the full email, but not in the Salon article.

This doesn’t change the fact that he’s a notorious liar, however.

Leftists seem to be doing a very effective job in lying and creating diversions in the media and web. Charles, keep fighting the good fight.

8 Kaitian868  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 9:08:13am

Well at the moment, according to the Colonel, it's looking to be fake. However we need an independent confirmation to verify that to be the case though. Considering this is probably one of his sock puppets to stir up more crap.

Saudi king chides UK on terrorism

Speaking through an interpreter, the Saudi monarch said he believed most countries were not taking the issue seriously, "including, unfortunately, Great Britain".

"We have sent information to Great Britain before the terrorist attacks in Britain but unfortunately no action was taken. And it may have been able to maybe avert the tragedy."

The Saudi leadership maintains that it passed the UK information that might have averted the London bombings of 2005 if it had been acted on.

An investigation by Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) found no evidence of any intelligence passed on by the Saudis that could have prevented the 7 July 2005 bombings, the BBC's Frank Gardner said.

Well, its obvious the Brits aren't taking terrorism seriously. They're letting the Saudis visit.

I can't be surprised by them doing this anymore -- however the brazenness of the lying is getting to be really eye opening. It's as if they think no one is paying attention, but they have to lie in order to prove wrong those that they know are watching. Truly Twilight Zone kinda stuff

Greenwald lies? Nice. Real nice.

Facts and logic don't help your cause, so you have no choice but to lie?

Nice.

How about conceding the point that you were wrong? Has he even tried that as an option. Intellectual honesty can be respected.

This, once again shows why he can't be trusted.

Salon ought to know better than to give this guy a forum.

25 cosmo  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 9:16:30am

It's like lying isn't even lying anymore. The lying liar doesn't care. He/she/shim knows that they'll be discovered--but that doesn't deter the untruth. It's about getting the shot in before the counterpunch. It's about hoping the first salvo is louder than the return-of-fire.

That's the success metric in the lying liar's lie-o-sphere.

Inside Higher Ed has an article on what happened. It has a lefty spin to be sure.

Funny thing is that David Horowitz denounced the event in the Inside Higher Ed article, and Kyle Bristow called Horowitz his hero on his blog the other day. Kyle must be crying.

One of the most shocking parts of this whole story is that Kyle Bristow had a white supremacist MC the event! The guy used the "n" word on tape, which I have at my blog.

That nazi MC posted something on the MSU student newspaper website about how the next person he wants to bring to campus is Norman Finkelstein. Sickening.

It wasn't Charles that started this.

Sherlock Sockpuppet. Doesn't it seem a little odd that after all his sockpuppetry that Socky _still_ claims not to know about tracing IP's?

33 ronaldusmagnus  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 9:28:44am

I caved and went to Salon to see Socky's post.

What an A$$hat.

He posts the letter, claiming it is authentic. Then in one of numerouse updates to this post, admits that he did not verify the authenticity of the email and receives a letter from Boylan claiming to have not sent the email.

A lot of phishing is lamely investigated. Socky maintains the possible authenticity of the letter and essentially leaves it to Boylan to disprove it.

And he wonders why the legal profession has a bad rep.

(sorry lawhawk, et al)

The Dork doesn't even realize that his investigation of the ip addresses involved includes an ip address that is allocated to private local ip numbers for internal lans not out in the real world routable.

If that mail was sent on the net any mail server it was sent through would probably place it in the bit bucket memory hole.

39 Axiom  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 9:35:33am

Well, I guess I could read up all the comments on Greenwald's blog, but to do so I have to first watch a bunch of Salon ads. Great.

Anyway, it appears, on the surface, that Greenwald is receiving emails from through the same host computer in email conversations that Boylan acknowledges did occur and the recent conversations that appear questionable to Greenwald. That could lead to anything though. I can log in to Outlook Web Access from anywhere in the world with the same set of user credentials and make it appears as if it's only one person using the account. Every single email will be distributed by the same host SMTP server wherever it exists in the world.

The inherent problem with tracing military communications, especially the US Military, is that they operate their own private network within the public Internet infrastrucure. Sometimes it uses the public internet, sometimes it does not. But any server that is transmitting to public smtp servers like those from Salon is most certainly going to be a host in United States.

I've never done any DoD work. So I don't really know how they drop emails for public consumption versus emails for private consumption.

The issues of accuracy, context, and proper characterization is something that perhaps you could do a little research and would assume you are aware of as a trained lawyer.

For a PAO, this is remarkably free of coherence and grammar.

42 strandedSF  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 9:57:29am

What a whinging, writhing, worthless little pencil-necked geek this Socky Sockpuppet is.

How does he still have a voice at Salon? That in itself is a disgrace.

Does anyone besides me perceive the blatant contrast between the manly and heroic officer serving on the front lines of a deadly conflict and the whiny gasbag hiding behind the skirts of his magazine editors?

I love how he equates the leaking of transcripts of a soldier's telephone conversations concerning the ongoing examination of his navel to leaking national security secrets affecting the safety of millions of innocents around the world to the New York Times.

I'm with the colonel...Socky must have been a really shitty lawyer, as even Beauchamp could drive a Bradey Fighting Vehicle through the giant holes in his logic.

What an asshat.

43 docweasel  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 10:18:54am

I believe the email is real simply because Greenwald would never bear to write such accurately critical things about himself- if he had faked it, he would have gone over the top and inaccurately made up slanders about himself, so he would have plenty of inaccuracies to raise hell about.

Greenwald can't bear criticism, hence the entire sockpuppet affair. In fact, that's why this is so blown up, because Greenwald is making such a stink, and he's making such a stink because he hates accurate, fair criticism. Its quite easy to hit a nerve with Greenwald: simply tell the truth on him.

44 steve miller  Mon, Oct 29, 2007 10:22:13am

Well, understand this - GG doesn't care that we are highlighting his flawed and mendacious reporting - all that matters is that we are talking about HIM. He has, as you know, had some of his work quoted on the ACTUAL FLOOR of the UNITED STATES SENATE. This makes his Olympian pronouncements all that much more Olympian. Plus, anyone who can masquerade as THREE different people (all posting from the same IP address) is pretty darn important!

Regarding MSM manipualtion of the news - it's worthwhile to take a look at Gov. Schwartzeneggar's interview with the "reporter" at the fire. It's at YouTube.
It's a plain example of the shenanigans of these so-called "journalists." The - can't say "reporter" because she is completely backfilling the interview with hard LEft Democrat angles - so we'll say the "Democrat Talking Points Specialist" verbally tries to crowd Arnold into a corner in order to set up a slick and completely dishonest report that complements the Democrat political strategy.
The Republicans should take a few minutes to see how he handled that ambush. It's a superb case study in disarming the MSM spin machine.

So, GG provided the full text to anyone who read his post. Some scoop that Dread Pundit is on to.
