Tonight's Debate Promises Edginess

Wed, Nov 28, 2007 at 10:09:44 am PST

A debate is supposed to be a lively interactive process with the potential for surprises, but tonight’s “YouTube” GOP debate will be a bunch of canned video questions preselected by biased moderators: GOP candidates to field YouTube queries with edgy race undecided.

Edgy!

And you know CNN just won’t be able to resist getting in one or two cutesy “humorous” clips (like the sockpuppet—get it?— in the last YouTube Dem debate), to further degrade the whole mess.

Here’s a look at what we might be in for: YouTube search: GOP Debate Questions.

Tonights debate promises to be a complete waste of time for anyone who is truely learning anything about the candidates and their stances on important issues.

2 lawhawk  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:13:10am

Edgy? Yawn.

I think I'm going to settle back and let Vodkapundit drunk blog the thing. More entertaining and enlightening than listening to the moderators blather on.

In fact, I think I'll be spending that time sanding and plastering the walls in my house, which is a far more productive use of my time.

3 storagemanager  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:14:08am

Ron Paul.

4 loppyd  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:14:28am

I saw some of the submissions on youtube. I tend to think many of these people are not Reublicans. Some young punk kid blathering about the Bush Administration's policies ruining our world reputation and how will the candidates distance themselves from Bush.

Mmmkay.

5 loppyd  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:15:12am

I can't do anything right today.

Reublicans should be Republicans.

Sheesh.

6 Pent.  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:16:18am

I wonder what the Lincoln-Douglas debates would have been like if they were subjected to the same idiocy that modernity has to offer...

7 BingoBunny  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:16:28am

Drudge report says CBS is talking about canceling the debate because of the writers strike..

/Thank god for unions.

8 teamright  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:17:35am

Give me a break. How about, " As a homophobic islamophobic misogynistic evil poopyhead, how do you intend to draw any distinctions between yourself and rest of the Republicans on stage with you?"

9 reine.de.tout  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:17:51am
What do conservatives conserve?

How has your sense of humor helped you in your campaign?

What is your position on the statement, "The United States of Christians".

Wowee. Are these the types of probing questions on topics of great importance we can expect tonight?

10 bulwrk  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:18:25am

this could help to flush out any ron paul sleeper trolls that might have registered here in the last few days.

A mid-debate show will be performed by beloved death-metal band Deathklok!

25 victor_yugo  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:27:35am

"Edginess" is about on par with "truthiness."

It isn't, but they (the Powers That Be in their own minds) want to put a veneer of "edge" or "truth" on it, so they just mangle the word.

(Not to be confused with Dan Rather, who so far gives all indications he really does believe the memos.)

26 Ashamed to be Dutch  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:27:38am

Hope it will be live in Europe too... Beer is already in the fridge ;-)

27 tfc3rid  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:29:04am

It will be a disaster... CNN is going to select questions that show exactly why it's a big joke...

28 redstateredneck  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:29:53am

Republicans trying to prove they are as hip and cool as the Dems!
/puke

29 Killian Bundy  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:32:02am

Let's see, Cnn picking You Tube questions for a Republican debate, what's not to like? Who the [expletive deleted] is in charge of the RNC?

/guess I'd better hit the liquor store

30 Ackomanyuki  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:36:42am

Kids Christmas card picture sitting tonight at eight o'clock, Another debate? YAWN! Haven't watched one fully yet. Just ten minutes or so of one Dem debate to see what the face of evil looks like in real-time.

31 TMF  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:38:40am

So watching this will require me to turn to CNN?

Next!

32 joncelli  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:39:04am

This might be funny if I still drank. Dead cold sober, though, it would be intolerable (so I'll be doing laundry instead).

33 Dead Sea Squirrel  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:42:59am

The Edgihadis are coming!

34 brent  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:43:30am

I saw a quick flash on this this morning - some obnoxious kid saying something about promising never to name anything after that vice president Dick Cheney.... Classy. CNN, I mean.

Who watches these things, the YouTube folk that gots their clips picked? Ron Paul?

35 Owl  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 10:43:55am

re: #3 storagemanager

Frankly, I'd rather sit and watch Lawrence Welk reruns (he's dead, you know) with my father-in-law.

49 big L  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 11:31:40am

4-loppyd- people saythat the GOP distances themselves frm GWB. But so far he has gone a a whole bunch of mostly private fund-raisers and raised over 62 million dollars.

50 Colonel Panik  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 11:35:30am

A perfect storm of 9-11 truthers, LLL's and Ronulan whackjobs...
I wanna see Duncan Hunter give one of these YouTube geeks the smackdown.

51 RetiredUSAF  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 11:57:51am

I would really like to see Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson put the Clinton News Network in their place. The rest of the crowd are running for the wrong political parties nomination.

52 jukin3  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 12:05:42pm

Will there be undecided voters there that are all liberal activists and democrat congressmen staffers?

53 slickridley  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 12:06:34pm

wish we could get some better questions,
but i really wish we could get straight answers out of these candidates

(1st post here, yay?)
ranting on....
at least there is still hope that these debates aren't planed out like the democrat ones are (attempted to reference hillery's supporter plants)

54 Occasional Reader  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 12:13:07pm

The guy asking about US dollar devaluation has a good question, and asks it coherently and politely.

55 blbfootballs  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 12:13:26pm

If you want a clue as to the "seriousness" of the debate tonight, I'd recommend listening to a truly surprising interview with YouTube's head of this kind of thing, conducted by Hugh Hewitt yesterday night. The shallowness on display does not inspire confidence.

56 doongara  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 12:23:32pm

I think we need to take the web cams away from the freaks.

57 Carolina Girl  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 1:30:32pm

Personally, I'm planning to watch Kid Nation - at least these asshat adolescents are entertaining.

"What do conservatives 'conserve?'" Life, resources, money - the list is endless. Thank your for taking time from your bong hits to ask a question.

And of course, the Iraq War questioners - no facts or anything, but you can bet they'll be hammered by them.

And what's with the Kabuki mask dude on the Canadian Border question. "You're too overzealous about border security." Really, paleface? Because you wouldn't be so quick with that crap if there were two gaping holes in downtown Montreal.

I don't see why everyone gets mad at CNN for trying to make the debates a bit more humorous. I mean, for Christs sake, we have 11 more months of this campaign to go. We could use a little humor now and then. That's why I supported Stephen Colbert.

if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say there'll be a LOT of them.

61 CLLRusso  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 3:18:28pm

Oh yawn, I turned down my ticket to this event deciding that I really have no confidence in questioning by Utubers or the white haired CNN guy. Am I becomming jaded by these incessant debates!
