-RetweetGiuliani Security Expenses Scandal?

Wed, Nov 28, 2007 at 3:18:00 pm PST

Politico.com is trying to promote a Giuliani “scandal” today in advance of the debate, but when you dig into the details there doesn’t really appear to be much there; Allahpundit has a good roundup: Politico: Rudy hid security expenses for visits to Judi in obscure city agency budgets? Update: “The mayor did absolutely nothing improper”.

the good thing is that Rudy has never claimed to be a mr Goody two shoes.

So if anything comes up, where he hid trips to his then girlfriend, it will blow over.

Judith is Hot, BTW.

15 gagalbert  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 3:24:46pm

Rep. Peter King, who is pretty well tied in to the Rudy campaign states categorically that there is nothing to this. I guess we'll see, but it sounds to me that the long knives are out for Rudy and we would hope that he is smart enough not to have anything with real merit come up now.

It is bad enough for Rudy that Laura Ingraham basically has daily jihad against Rudy because he is not of the right view on abortion for her. That is what is killing him now. If he has any real scandals in his closet he will get crushed. After all, he is not the Clintons that have the media poo-poo any and everything that is bad that becomes public.

WrathofG-d: Rudy is the anti-Bush on many issues. The real patrician Bushie is Romney. The guy does not have clue about the real world, which has been Pres. Bush's problem. I supported Pres Bush strongly in both elections and would do it again if the situation were the same. He is a good guy, but a terrible manager, a terrible judge of personnel, and he has no sense of urgency about anything. And this cozying up to the terrorist of Fatah and Abbas is really just too much to take. Rudy would never, never do that. Romney would in a heartbeat.

The writers' strike leaves it up to blogs to temper "opinion" like this. Notice the timing of the strike right before primaries as hitlery's secrets bubble up. CBS's writers are talking strike on the day of the debate. Only helps Hitlery as no news is good news for her campaign right now. Although we can still count on CNN to shill.

If Rudy were a dem he'd get a bump in the polls.

46 Highrise  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 3:44:14pm

It didn't surprise me that they are beginning to go through records and try to go after Rudy for misusing funds for his affair. I'd hope his campaign manager would have atleast forseen this. The leftists know that it will come up during this election that the clintons took stuff from the whitehouse and air force. They are probably just trying to preempt this.

I don't know about the truth to this piece. If this is indeed what happened, I frown on it no matter WHO the candidate is. I know one thing, I don't trust the politico as a source to be *objective* on this and provide me with the necessary analysis of the details.

This may not go over to well with the conservative right once the lefties operatives in the MSM start investigating and reporting it.

I was pretty staunch when this type of stuff was found out about bill clinton that this showed his true character. And Character is a very important trait in a President.

However...

The difference between Rudy and bill imo is that atleast Rudy appears contrite and doesn't hide his imperfections. bill, thumbed his nose at it and covered and lied. I'm a pretty forgiving person if someone is contrite. Rudy is not my first choice but I do see that he is sorry how he allowed things to unfold the way they did in his facial expressions when he does talk about it. Tends to make me not completely discount him...yet.

NY City unions are political entities and very much in the D pocket. Talk with the rank and file and see what you get. Additionally there is a lot of sour grapes between NYC unions and Rudy, he didn't cave to union demands. That is a source of a lot the stuff. They take stuff and spin it.

My dad is on a FEMA disaster response team. At ground zero there was literal nothing left to find. Think about all the stuff in an office, think about 110 floors of office. They found little that was identifiable as anything, everything was ground to dust. Now put soft, squishy people in there. There was nothing left to find, the bodies they did find were on the periphery of ground zero.

I'm a little jaded on the subject of sexual relations of politicos. I think President Clinton's serial-satryiasis did that. To me, a married man with a mistress is different from whipping the old pecker out and waving it, such as it is, at every woman who gets close enough to nail.

Adultery is a criminal misdemeanor in Maryland, punishable by a $10 fine. Needless to say, no one ever gets charged with adultery. It does rear its ugly head (no pun intended) in divorce cases, though, because it is grounds for divorce.

If so, maybe a minor local issue. I believe NYC spends vasts sums of cash. And it's 11 months too early for the big pre-election surprise.

Why our current state of politics is so bad. There are thousands of people (or at least 100s) pouring over every detail of the candidates pasts. Recall that...was it Bork? Thomas?...the left tried to get his video rental records...to see what he rented. That's really fishing for something to use against them. And NY Times tried to get Roberts adaption records.

And for those of us of faith repentance goes a long way towards reconciliation if he is genuine in admitting he made mistakes and apologizes. Clinton did no such thing and continued to do things like buy thongs down south. Thumbing his nose is what made him more reprehensible to the morals of conservatives of faith.

Oh and I absolutely can't stand those who say they found God/Jesus in order to escape public scrutiny and you can just tell by their body language and shifting eyes that it is bunk..and then there are those who apologize using certain phrases or words that aren't *really* an apology.

My brother and a few exes of mine were ones that would often abuse the latter so I see through fake apologies fairly easy.

It's really quite simple. Because Republicans believe in morality, any human weakness on their part makes them "hypocrites", and therefore "legitimate targets" of the MSM. Democrats, who have no moral standards whatsoever, can never be accused of failing them, so they get a pass. It's best explained in this cartoon.

The difference is that the media knows we care about what our side does. If we become the same as the left and quit caring, these things will not be a big deal. Temper that with the cynical fact that the unions are nearly 100% Democrat political organizations.

The Unions are democrat organizations. There's no doubt about it. I would have to hear from rank and file firefighters with no political motivation. The Urban Legend site has articles from Salon mag. I'm suspicious.

I have spoken with 2 NYPD and they both hated Giuliani. The union wouldn't claim to be against him if the majority of it's members would be opposed to it. A union may not have everyones intentions covered, but it has to at the very least have a majority support for something like this despicable act of back stabbing.

Yes - our side has this tendency towards morals.
Morals = good
Expecting saintly perfection while the other side gets a free pass? bad.

In fact to many do expect saintly perfection. I have problems with most of those running on our side, but they are much better than anything on the other. The shame is, not all on our side will vote if the nominee doesn't meet their expectations. Again not right, but just the way it is. In most cases, we will lose under these circumstances.

re: #128 Cattt

Adultery is a criminal misdemeanor in Maryland, punishable by a $10 fine. Needless to say, no one ever gets charged with adultery. It does rear its ugly head (no pun intended) in divorce cases, though, because it is grounds for divorce.

In CT it is not a crime but a cause for alimony.

in California it is encouraged, and has no effect on a divorce. (No Fault State)

Maryland has pretty strict divorce laws. Unless you have grounds, it takes a year to get a divorce, even if both parties agree to it. Grounds are things like adultery, conviction of a felony, incarceration, and insanity.

My then spouse, when he found out about the decidedly NOT no-fault divorce laws in Maryland, was very cooperative with my reasonable demands. As a result, neither of us got attornies, he paid me the money he owed for home expenses during the separation, and he paid for the divorce. Plus his girlfriend blew up like a blowfish - wider than she was tall - as soon as he hooked him. :)

What pisses me off the most is the huge double standard in media driven politics.

The Clinton's are allowed scandal after scandal - lie after lie - and they are treated like "hey it's all cool".
Meanwhile - Republicans have to be perfect and saintly otherwise they are dragged down by a openly biased pro-Democrat media machine.

It's such Bullshit.

A liberal friend of mine explained the dichotomy this way: Republicans claim to have moral values, so when they fall short of those purported values, they are obviously hypocrites and bad people. On the other hand, Democrats don't profess to have any moral values, so when they are involved in scandals that are anti-social, ethically questionable, etc., they're not hypocrites or bad people, nor can they be judged by others the same way as they would Republicans.

Good Evening all, hope you are all doing well.

CAIR against Homeland Security Program to train firefighters (Is there a Homeland Security program that CAIR is for?)

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), together with the Association of Muslim American Lawyers (AMAL) and the Sikh Coalition, today expressed deep concern about a federal testing program that uses firefighters to gather intelligence for security purposes.
...
"Undoubtedly, firefighters should inform law enforcement authorities of activity deemed 'suspicious' under a reasonable person standard. However, FDNY's partnership with the government as intelligence agents may compromise resident's trust in firefighters and consequently threaten the fire department's standing as a group that our city holds in high esteem."

The letter also expressed the groups' privacy concerns: "...[W]e believe that terrorism-related intelligence training of the FDNY may serve as 'back door' route to warrantless searches by the government."
CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 33 offices, chapters and affiliates nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

The program, initiated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last December, trains Fire Department of New York (FDNY) firefighters and inspectors to identify "suspicious" behavior or items that may indicate terrorist activity or planning.

Too funny. Had you been talking to liberals too? I had asked my liberal friend very specifically why Bill Clinton got a pass on his adulterous behaviors, but Guiliano was fair game. I also asked about 'Cold Cash Jefferson' , Murtha etc. and why Dems yawned at their behaviors but went bonkers over Scooter Libby, yadayada...

They think they are 'morally superior' likely because the things they say are important are typically emotional, not well-thought-out attachments, impossible to quantify, and largely reduced to symbolic endorsement. In other words, anything goes and they can move the goal posts at will, whereas conservative ideas of moral behavior are clearly defined.

I don't agree with that. Behavior, be it personal or public, reflects integrity. If a person has no personal integrity, especially when it comes to family, how can I trust him to do right by me, a total stranger? I just believe integrity is integrity. It's not situational.

I was at a Florida Institute of CPAs seminar today regarding . . . well, CPA stuff, of course. But something the instructor, who sues CPAs for a living, said today really bothered me - besides pointing out all the things we can be vulnerable on if we're not duly diligent!

He was commenting on how CPAs should exercise great care in choosing our clients in the first place, that 2/3 of the CPAs he sues successfully are not (careful, that is). . . . and that he recommended never to accept or keep clients who:
1. Gamble
2. Do drugs
3. Cheat on their spouses

because they are many times untrustworthy in other aspects of their lives.

Guiliani and Bill Clinton were the first two people who inadvertently popped into my head once he said #3.

It troubled me because I like Guiliani on some aspects.

General Maxwell Taylor had this to say to the paratroopers under his command before they jumped into Normandy, June 1944, "Flies spread disease, so keep yours closed!"
Rudy was too young to listen, comprehend, or remember those words at the time. Pity! So was Slick Willy too. No pity there, though. One of these days, based on probability, Bubba is likely to fall victim to the 'two dollars to get it, ten dollars to take it away' disease. A well deserved fate should it come to pass.
One question, does the Secret Service do a precautionary smear before one of Willie's dalliances, just to prevent such an event?

Re 231: Florida Lady

I've been watching Rudy - my candidate - for some years, and his marriage to Donna Hanover was a disaster. Right at the beginning of his first administration Ms. Hanover let it be known that she would not be acting as a first lady - all the while living in Gracie Mansion with all the perks. Then in his second term Rudy got prostate cancer and Ms. Hanover could not have been less interested. Then somewhere in that time frame he met Judith a nurse and a compassionate woman. She was there for him all during his chemo and radiation (not a fun thing to undergo). Then I seem to remember that Ms. Hanover refused to leave the mansion after the divorce, so Rudy had to continue to live with a friend. All the while Ms. Hanover was working on her career in TV, but where is she today? And trust me, she has poisoned the relationship between Rudy and his kids.

Rudy is not to blame for anything except for marrying the wrong second wife, and I wish him the best in his third and hopefully last marriage.
