YouTube Debate Thread 1

Wed, Nov 28, 2007 at 4:53:52 pm PST

Here’s our first thread to discuss tonight’s edgy YouTube-sponsored GOP debate. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if one of these candidates challenged their host, YouTube, to defend the appalling prevalence at YouTube of videos supporting (and even raising money for) Islamic terrorists?

In the past three days we’ve welcomed 732 hatchlings into the lizard army, by the way. And here’s another short open registration window, sneakily announced at the bottom of this post.

UPDATE at 11/28/07 5:45:43 pm:

Closed now, with 56 more.

My only predicition is that CNN will try to cut every Republican throat they can... on orders of the DNC/Clinton machine...

Maybe Fox news should invite the DNC candidates to debate in lieu of the CBS fiasco... oh that's right... the DNC candidates are cowards who won't go on Fox while the RNC candidates will walk into their enemies propaganda machine and (hopefully) take it on...

Rockford Mall Terrorist pleads Guilty

A 23-year-old Rockford man charged a year ago in an attempted terror plot pleaded guilty today to attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction at a local mall.

Derrick Shareef, wearing a beard and a skullcap, said he understood he could face 30 years to life in prison but told U.S. District Judge David Coar that he wanted to plead guilty anyway.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Shareef made no deal with the government on the length of his sentence. His attorney declined to comment.

Earlier Lou Dobbs was slicing and dicing some democrat congressman who wants amnesty for 12 million illegals.

For those of you who haven't heard about my self-constructed tuition plan for my college age children.

They will go the college, and without documents, showup for class and take a seat. They will participate in class, and be very good students. They will expect the teacher to grade their papers and give them a final grade. They will demand a student ID so that they can participate in all student activities and not live in the shadows.

Liberal professors should not have a problem with my idea - no matter how overcrowded their classrooms, or overworked they become.

It's for the children.

6,000 Sunnis join pact with US in Iraq By LAUREN FRAYER, Associated Press Writer

HAWIJA, Iraq - Nearly 6,000 Sunni Arab residents joined a security pact with American forces Wednesday in what U.S. officers described as a critical step in plugging the remaining escape routes for extremists flushed from former strongholds.

The new alliance — called the single largest single volunteer mobilization since the war began — covers the "last gateway" for groups such as al-Qaida in Iraq seeking new havens in northern Iraq, U.S. military officials said.

I sure would like to hear their opinion of the UN's LOST (Law of the Sea Treaty) initiative that has currently been approved by the House and has the support of the President. For informational purposes:

December 2006: Romney Caught Using Undocumented Workers At His Own Home. "A lawn service used for several years by Gov. Mitt Romney, who is considering a run for president, employed illegal immigrants to work on the grounds of his suburban home, according to a published report. The Boston Globe said it interviewed in Spanish four current and former employees of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, and all but one who said they had worked on Romney's property said they were in the country illegally. The employees told the newspaper the company's owner, Ricardo Saenz, never asked them to show documents on their immigration status, which is required by federal law." [Boston Globe, 12/1/06]

I interrupt this inanae debate thread to bring you an inane essay in which Christopher "Hitch" Hitchens has a Brazilian wax. Yes, that's what I said.

You ladies will know what I mean by the stirrup position, which I was now unceremoniously instructed to assume. That’s to say, I braced one leg up while Ms. Padilha braced the other. And she does this for a living. To be Dr. Lituchy and to spend every day up to your elbows in other people’s oral cavities would be tough enough. But this ... And wait: surely you can’t be serious about putting ... Oh Jesus. I was overwhelmed by a sudden access of lava-like agony, accompanied by the vertiginous sensation that there was no there there. Stunned into silence, I listened slack-jawed as she told of her plans to expand into the London market, and to fly to Dubai to demonstrate her technique. To call this a “growth industry” might be a slight mistake: the J Sisters will not rest until every blade has been torn from every crevice. Tomorrow, the world. But today, your humble servant. And my only question was: “Where’s the rest of me?” We did not take a “before” picture, so with your indulgence I shall not share the “after” one. The total effect, I may tell you, is somewhat bizarre. The furry pelt that is my chest stretches southward over the protuberant savanna that is my stomach, and then turns into a desert region. Below the waist, a waste. I suppose I could have had the whole torso denuded, but then I would have looked even more like a porpoise than I already do.

Hitch has officially jumped the shark.

And back to your thread...

re: #272 Kenneth

He even named the damned thing.

Perhaps we need to ask assistance from those countries who have successfully implemented border controls instead of all of these other idiotic programs (like drivers licenses and social security benefits)

WOW! I guess the writers' strike has really impacted TV more than I thought. This whole format is as lame as a reality show. To reduce national politics to this level is just wrong. We are trying to judge candidates for the highest offfice in the land for God's sake. We are in the process of deciding just who will be the leader of the free world and we treat it like just another reality show. OT:

It occurs to me that Charles could make a ton more money on this site than he does, simply by upping the advertising load on each page. The fact that he has decided not to go this route and instead keeps the focus squarely on the content is testament to a man dedicated to providing a critical free forum of inquiry first, and making money second.

Not all conservative sites are so noble. _______.com comes to mind as one which seems to be rather too much involved with ad revenue (pop-ups, flashing banners everywhere, every square inch covered, etc.)

Think I'll hit the LGF tip jar tonight.

I like Mike. We need more people in power like him.

Huck is doing a real job of fielding those "Jesus" questions. But he does have a degree in that.

re: #538 Kenneth

Huckabee has called for zero income tax, to be replaced with a 23% sales tax.

Think about the awesome stupidity of that a while.

Stupidity? Lets examine the consequences.

1) ALL and I mean ALL sales transactions will be taxed, including those paid with un-taxed income (ie:drugs and other illegal activities) as well as those workers who work "under the table". (Gets them on the way out rather than the way in)

2) All tax reporting will be delegated to retail business's rather than the individual citizen, reducing the size of the IRS and their budget.

3) Once the underground economy is taxed, the rate would decrease.

4) Imagine taking home the gross pay you signed on for. If you choose to spend it, you are taxed, otherwise if you choose to save it, you are not.

5) Your employer, as I am, will no longer have to match your SS and Medicare deductions, allowing employers more freedom in raising wages. Those matching funds equal 7.5% of your gross pay FYI.

It makes sense to me as a taxpayer and an employer. Taxing income encourages deceit, taxing spending defeats deceit. JMHO.

563 Pavel49  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 6:38:10pm

Ron is doesn't live in the same world I do. he is getting boos now. The others are pounding him now.

564 Pavel49  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 6:40:28pm

Rudy is telling us how he is more than just a 9/11 hero. He is really trying to sell that he is a real conservative. "I am tested!"

Be careful, the RonBots will be all over you.

I thought Fred's response to the cartoon Cheney was straight up.! "For a second there I thought that was me!" The VP is part of the Government. McCain was very weak in his response. I think he is still upset about the waterboarding volley.

567 Pavel49  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 6:50:29pm

Did the Dems get any questions about their "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"? Why are the GOP'ers getting this Question? Anderson is really pushing the gay rights issue.

568 Pavel49  Wed, Nov 28, 2007 6:53:05pm

This is just wrong! They have a ill retired general speachafying about gay rights and chastising the guys on stage. This is designed to be a "Gotcha!" moment!
