Does anybody know if this is working because someone up the ladder wizened up and is letting our troops fight this war the way it needs to be fought, instead of asking permission from 17 generals and my momma before firing on somebody? I've heard some infuriating anecdotes, but haven't heard if it's getting any better in that respect.

I think alot of it has to do with a better trained Iraqi army, and the fact that the Iraqi's finally got sick of Al Queda

36 Sharmuta  Fri, Nov 30, 2007 11:13:54am
The surge, he said in a statement, “has created a window of opportunity for the Iraqi government,’’ but so far the Iraqi government has “failed to capitalize on the political and diplomatic steps that the surge was designed to provide.”

So- the surge was working before it wasn't working?

The Dem's operate in much the same manner as radical Islamic clerics.

1) Feed the masses that their lives are nonsensical without their guidance and require total devotion and adoration by the followers .
2) Make the followers victims of perceived injustices or enemies. In the case of the Dem's, Bush, big business, those who like myself, who were motivated enough to run a business, we're heretics in the eyes of the average Dem. In the case of radical Islam, The US, its people, the western culture, oh yeah, those are enemies of the Dem's as well.

Pelosi the one we all railed on when she went to Syria? Hmm, was that before or after the US invited Syria to of all things, a peace conference/

Yah, Pelosi just about as insane as the insanity going on with BUSH/BAKER/STATE/UN/EU...CARTERESQUE and all those to whom they appease in BID TO KISS ASS TO THE ISLAMIC WORLD Annapolis.

While all this is going on Glick sings

US withdraws UN resolution endorsing Annapolis agreement
In a sudden about face, the United States on Friday withdrew a UN resolution endorsing this week's agreement by Israeli and Palestinian leaders to try to reach a Middle East peace settlement by the end of 2008, apparently after Israel objected.

This week the Bush Administration legitimized Arab anti-Semitism. In an effort to please the Saudis and their Arab brothers, the Bush administration agreed to physically separate the Jews from the Arabs at the Annapolis conference in a manner that aligns with the apartheid policies of the Arab world which prohibit Israelis from setting foot on Arab soil.

Evident everywhere, the discrimination against Israel received its starkest expression at the main assembly of the Annapolis conference on Tuesday. There, in accordance with Saudi demands, the Americans prohibited Israeli representatives from entering the hall through the same door as the Arabs.

At the meeting of foreign ministers on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called her Arab counterparts to task for their discriminatory treatment. "Why doesn't anyone want to shake my hand? Why doesn't anyone want to be seen speaking to me?" she asked pointedly.

Israel's humiliated foreign minister did not receive support from her American counterpart. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who spent her childhood years in the segregated American South, sided with the Arabs. Although polite enough to note that she doesn't support the slaughter of Israelis, she made no bones about the fact that her true sympathies lie with the racist Arabs.
As she put it, "I know what it is like to hear that you cannot go on a road or through a checkpoint because you are a Palestinian. I understand the feeling of humiliation and powerlessness."

Now talk about stomach turning disgusting!

Gillerman sings too AGAINST the UN, THEIR PATRONS and Palestinians who won't even touch a Jew WHO WISH TO KILL EVERY JEW while knowing all of this were courted like KINGS at Annapolis.
Gillerman: UN giving Palestinians fictitious sense of reality

'Arab refusal to recognize the existence of our Jewish state has been at the core of the Palestinians’ inability to achieve a state of their own,' Israeli ambassador to United Nations tells General Assembly members during discussion titled 'International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People'

The only good outcome of this is US withdraws UN resolution on Annapolis. Well well. Perhaps the US in relation to Israel has developed a bit of a conscience?

we must also, honestly look into the effect this "winning" is going to have on the Enemy. We cannot ignore, in our rush to Victory, the amount of emotional damage we are going to cause on the poor Enemy population. A complete lack of consideration to the honor, and concerns of our Enemy, will only further isolate us from the Islamist communities around the world, and only deepen their rightous opinion of the United States as a bastion of vicious liberty-based imperialistic conquest.

OT (somewhat)

As this post is about moonbats, the MSM can't seem to delink the inexcrable Michael Moore from Roger Smith, former GM chairman and CEO who passed away today.

Here in the rustbelt, Roger Smith was admired as a titan of industry. Yeah, some union leaders couldn't stand him, but, for cryin' out loud - the guy was Mr. GM since 1974. I defy anyone to lead, change and manage GM through the tumultuous period and growth is underwent during Smith's tenure. Overall - he was widely admired and masterful in running an immensely complex international organization. There are but a handful of men in this world who can do it - he was one of them.

Now, the AP has published his obituary. The version running in this region is 16 paragraphs. Nine of them are about Roger Smith - seven of them are about Michael Moore and his insulting rant "Roger and Me".

WTF MSM? A titan of industry dies and you lace nearly half of his official obit with smears from a psycho liar who stalked Smith?

Got to be a tough time for the Left, nothing has gone right since that Blackwater incident. Their movies all tanked, Al Queada tanked. Even Osama is out demanding we pay more attention to him.

It's not always the popular sentiment to not accede or employ common sense out of fear we'll offend someone. But history proves that keeping an uncompromising position and a steady course against the evil and illogical, is invariably the most viable solution. Although as history supports my argument, the practice of "Staying the Course" does not move swiftly enough and the gullible react often with unfounded fear and anxiety demanding immediate solutions even if those solutions are nothing more than mere band-aids or appeasement.

OOPS -

I was wrong! HALF of the paragraphs mention Michalel Moore. Nice job AP. Roger Smith's obit - 8 paragraphs about Smith - 8 paragraphs with Michael Moore.

And the ultimate insult? The AP mentions Michael Moore and his film in the FIRST SENTENCE of Roger Smith's obit. Where are the adults?

Bombs are always, always, always real until disarmed / dismantled and proven fake.
Worst case is a dead man switch. Meaning the bomber is actively keeping the bomb from detonating by holding some type of switch. If he gets tired, slips or a sniper takes him out the switch is released and the bomb detonates.

Obviously, we're all hoping that the guy comes to his senses and gives up without hurting anyone. A hostage crisis is in effect at Hillary's New Hampshire Campaign office. An insurgent with a bomb strapped to his body has taken a few people hostage. While Hillary consults with the United Nations, police officers are stationed outside closely monitoring the situation. Close by, stand representatives of the ACLU to ensure that the insurgent's rights are in no way violated.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the hostages.

As the hostage taker demands to talk to Hillary, we hope that she respects his absolute moral authoritiy in this situation.

According to CNN, this hostage taker was denied the right to ask questions at the YouTube debate, as they producers weren't sure if his bomb qualified him as a voter who was Undecided.

Him wanting to speak to Clinton just makes that more likely. It is possible he's just a nut, in which case, the "bomb" probably isn't really dangerous, but the police can't act like that.

261 SecretInternetDoucheBag  Fri, Nov 30, 2007 12:17:22pm

Left wingers wear tinfoil hats when they dream up conspiracies, what kind of hats do right wing conspiracy theorists wear?

I've always been partial to the propellor beanie.

That works! Except we are dissing Science Fiction Convention visitors if we say that...

How so?

Propellor Beanies have been a staple of SciFi conventions since whenever...

Science fiction author and cartoonist Ray Nelson claims to have invented the propeller beanie while still a high school student in 1947. The story is that he and some friends decided to take some pictures parodying science-fiction icons of the day. To represent a hero with an antigravity device, someone decided they should put a propeller on a hat, and Nelson quickly put one together from scraps of plastic he had lying around his room. One of his friends, George Young, believed at the time (and apparently still does) that Nelson bought the cap at a dime store rather than making it himself; Nelson maintains to this day that the cap was his invention. In any case, they all agreed the propeller beanie was a great joke, and Young later wore the hat at a science fiction convention—to much general approval. So Nelson drew a cartoon featuring Young in a propeller beanie as a symbol of science fiction fans. This cartoon led to other cartoons and eventually to an animated TV show called “Beany and Cecil” in which one of the characters, Beany Boy, wore the eponymous propeller beanie. The show in turn led inevitably to merchandising, and thus a cultural phenomenon was born

re: #35 pegcity

It's not just one thing, or a simple incremental increase in troops, ie "the surge". It's due to a fundamental shift in strategy. When Gen. Petraeus took over command he changed the strategy from keeping the US troops on large bases, where they focused on training the Iraqi army and occassionally launching mission at key terrorist targets. The problem with that approach was once they cleared a district of bad guys, the US left and the bad guys came back. Over time this made the local population mistrust the US because they knew in a month or two they would be under the terrorists again.

Petraeus changed the strategy: he sent the troops out to smaller community bases, integrated the Iraqi troops & police with US units (on the job training), and launched co-ordinated operations against the terrorists with both attacking & blocking forces. This goes far beyond simply tougher ROE. The local population knew the US was back to stay, so they started to help the US giving intel tips on who the bad guys were. This is the true meaning of "winning hearts and minds". Often misunderstood, that concept does not mean making the people love the US troops. It means making the people fear having to fight the US, then trust the troops to police them, then come to understand their own best interests are safer with the US in charge.

At the same time AQ had outworn their welcome in Sunni areas. They acted like the brutal thugs they were. Two big mistakes AQ made: they forced shieks to give their daughters as brides to the jihadis, and when the sheiks objected, they killed some of the sheiks. Those two acts turned whole tribes against them. Among the average Sunni Arab, "tribe" is the most important fact of his life, bigger even than religion. Yes, that's true. The Sunni tribes in Anbar started fighting AQ. And being their own territory, they knew who the bad guys were and knew were they were hiding. The US returned to the field at just the right time to exploit this turn about.

This same process has been repeated, to a lesser extent in other Sunni provinces. In some areas, like Baquba, the US has taken the lead fighting AQ.

Meanwhile, other US & Iraqi brigades were going after the Shia militias. When Mookie Sadr split for Iran, his Mahdi Army split into factions. The US targeted the more radical factions, especially the ones armed & directed by Iran. Most of the various Shia militias have been largely taken apart.

All told, thousands of AQ and Shia gunmen have been killed & thousands more taken prisoner. Along with this, there has been a huge amount of intel captured, logged, databased and analysed. This has facilitated a cascade effect as more intel leads to more bad guys, which leads to more intel... and so on.

Meanwhile casualty rates among US troops, Iraqi security forces & Iraqi civilians is way, way down.

Another big factor: tens of thousands of US troops, grunts, NCO's & officers, are now on their 2nd or 3rd tour in Iraq. They know the culture, the language and they know how to do their jobs. There is no army in the world that learns better than the US army. This is having a huge impact.

Great resources here on the military strategy in the GWOT.

We all recognize the seriousness of the hostage situation. Had hope and pray for a successfully outcome.

That said we also know that the MSM and Clinton's will spin the situation and try to blame the "vast right wing conspiracy" for the problem. And propose all sorts of limits on political speech. You do remember Clinton blaming OK City on Rush?

Since we know what's coming, why not step up to the plate and see what we can come with conspiracy wise.

Its 2007 and we are beginning to surely win the war in Iraq?

I QUESTION THE TIMING!

/Bush-Rove-Cheney you sneaky devil!

This "winning" in Iraq is a Bush ploy to convince the American people that we can win wars with our military to fund the Military Industrial Complex, and Neo-Cons univeral war theory, to steal away our rights, and oppress the America public...therefore this "winning" in Iraq must be stopped by the grassroots revolutionary parties at all costs....the "winning" will only hurt America....

The facts are regardless of the idiots political persuasion the guy is a psycho. Thus whatever political persuasion he has is based on insanity and noone should freakin care. To sit in our comfortable chairs in front of our computers and collectively hope that this is politically helpful to whatever side we claim is sickening.

I disagree.

You see, it doesn't matter what we think is right and just and fair. The truth( as someone posted above) is that IF the guy were to say he was a conservative, the MSM would beat it into the heads of millions of Americans for the next year. If he were to say he was a liberal, you'd never hear another peep on the nightly news - which sadly, many Americans still trust.

Saying is sick to hope the guy is not going to align himself with conservative values is like saying it's sick to hope Marines kick terrorists' asses.

If there is going to be a "side" in this....then I hope to God this nut isn't going to say he's on OUR side. As a Christian, I can tell you that the Eric Rudolph tragedy was a horrible thing - and having that nut say that he was doing it because he was a Christian really WAS sickening. If it's them or us, let it be them that takes the fall. . . because trust me on this one - if the guy even smells conservative, conservatives will be thrashed in the media for years about it.

So to hell with playing "fair".

IF this guy has a beef, I sure as hell hope he's a left-wing nut and not one of ours.

Well, yes, I'd say that's a sound policy.

Standing instructions to SWAT team in these situations; if you have a head shot, take the shot. NO presumption of rational behavior should be given to armed hostage-takers. The moment they take the hostages, they forfeit their lives, as far as I'm concerned, unless and until they peacefully surrender.

Canadian general in Afghanistan: 'we are winning'

Canada is winning the war in Afghanistan and is making significant progress in rebuilding that South Asian country, says the general who commands the Canadian Forces mission in Kandahar.

But Lt.-Gen. Michel Gauthier, who heads the Canadian Expeditionary Force Command in Ottawa, warns that because Afghan insurgents are losing ground, they likely will resort to increasing the number of roadside bombs and suicide attacks in an attempt to inflict more casualties on troops.

"From a military perspective in the south of Afghanistan, in Kandahar specifically, we are winning," Lt.-Gen. Gauthier said in an interview with CanWest News Service. "We are winning where it matters most, where the people live. Where 90 per cent of the population is, we have a strong security influence in concert with our Afghan partners."

So let me ask any Hillary supporters lurking here.

Lets say this nutbag has a working bomb, and he is willing to go meet his creator today. Lets say he was also willing to take any number of people with him

Now ,, lets say one of these staffers was packing a LEGAL firearm, as would be his/ her rights under article 2,

The question for the Hillary supporter would be, if given a choice, would you prefer

A) that the mad man blew up the place, killing himself and all in and around the building,,, or
B) that armed citizen took out that one man?

What nationality is the bomber?

Skin color and sexual preference would be more important.

that armed citizen took out that one man?

Actually I think shooting a guy with a suicide vest is a rather risky proposition. (Unless it can be done from, say, 200 yards away or more.)

Head shot only, low in skull, got to destroy the brain stem and disconnect all the circuitry to the body. Can't afford a twitching corpse, or an reflexive muscle contraction. Hi-power sniper rifle is the preferred option should the shot have to be taken.

Dead mans trigger on the bomb, if so determined changes the equation.

Regarding the hostage situation in Hillary's office, has anyone listened to Randi Rhodes yet? I'll bet she's accusing Bush for the crisis as a means of distraction and confusion to the Demo base (like they're not there already); and some will wind up traumatized or worse, they'll be out protesting in front of the WH tomorrow demanding Bush's impeachment once again over imaginary crimes committed by Bush.

Randi's a little misguided in her beliefs of what constitutes "WAR CRIMES".

Did GWB's mind-fu make her do the face plant and cause brain damage?

I think she was that way prior to her fall. I love her because she plays Rusty Warren on Fridays.

No, I don't think it's one of those goofy, feel good, happy-chant, Kumbaya sayings.

Rather, I think he's saying that mature, thinking people can laugh at the real world, even with its injustices and imperfections. People who remain in an immature, emotional state of development can't handle the real world. Sort of like how (thinkikng) conservatives are generally happy whereas (feeling) liberals are unhappy and miserable all the time.

455 Dirk Diggler  Fri, Nov 30, 2007 1:01:17pm

Kenneth,

Yeah, right.

This guy's been smoking too much of that Canadian superweed. The Canadian army couldn't beat the Salvation Army in a fight.

China to stop arresting women for carrying condoms: state press

Chinese police are to stop arresting women who carry condoms, traditionally seen as evidence of prostitution, in an effort to help curb the spread of AIDS, state press said Friday.

Despite efforts to stop the practice, women in China are still being sent to labour camps for prostitution offences merely because they were carrying condoms when detained by police, the report said, quoting an expert.

#471 loppyd,

That's nothing. When I lived in South Carolina in 1988 I woke up to the radio reporting dozens of school closings. Walking up to the window I asssumed the oncoming ice storm moved faster than predicted and I expected to see the ground covered in a layer of glaze. When I raised the shades I saw a dry landscape.

They cancelled all these schools based on the PREDICTION of a winter storm.

Probably a good thing though. The storm started at 3:00pm and sleeted for the next 15 hours. I never saw sleet accumulate until then--at least 4 inches of it. It looked like granular sugar until the next day when it all fused into a solid layer of ice that covered everything from Atlanta to Charleston. Things were shut down for at least 5 days.

China to stop arresting women for carrying condoms: state press

Chinese police are to stop arresting women who carry condoms, traditionally seen as evidence of prostitution, in an effort to help curb the spread of AIDS, state press said Friday.

Despite efforts to stop the practice, women in China are still being sent to labour camps for prostitution offences merely because they were carrying condoms when detained by police, the report said, quoting an expert.

and we thought that Islam was oppressive to women. Where is N.O.W. and Hillary? huh?

WTF? How on earth did they expect them to keep to a one-child policy?

Murtha , Pelosi and Harry Reid can all go jump in a lake.

Don't forget Ted Kennedy, and throw some piranha in there too.

And some Willy Fish.

Yikes. I may never swim in the wild again!

Much as I enjoy the idea of making moonbats irritated and uncomfortable, the image of Pelosi squirming is positively disturbing.

I have to preface this by saying I have not read all the remarks, and I'm sure someone has already pointed it out, but doesn't this cast even more aspersions on the traitors in the senate who called general Patraeus a liar and tacitly agreed with the "Betrayus" ad? Shouldn't El Rushbo (et al) jump on this with both feet and stomp a mud hole in their a$$es!?
