Mon, Dec 10, 2007 at 9:43:46 am PST

Michael J. Totten has another excellent piece from Fallujah, one of the hottest of the Iraqi hot spots, now returned to something more like civilization: After the Battle of Al-Fajr.

This would make a great movie- it'll just need some tweaking- a massacre by US troops, some raping and behavior reminescent of Genghis Khan. Plus we lose at the end.

So they would barricade one door and leave one open. And they'd put a bunker and a machine gun down that main hallway. They would sit in the back corner of a room and soon as you kicked open the door they would just keep firing.

I hate campers!

9 zombie  Mon, Dec 10, 2007 9:48:56am

Here's a key paragraph:

I hear criticism of Iraqis of some kind almost every day when I'm in Iraq. There is a lot to criticize. Iraq is a broken country. Its infrastructure and economy are shot, its political culture dysfunctional. In my experience, though, contempt for Iraqi culture specifically, and Arabs and Islam more generally, is far more prevalent in the American civilian population, even in liberal coastal cities, than it is among American soldiers and Marines who interact with Iraqis every day, forge sometimes intense personal bonds with Iraqis, eat Iraqi food, and speak at least a little Arabic. Stereotypes about racist and psychotic Marines, as well as fanatical and psychotic Iraqis, can't survive a lengthy trip to Fallujah, at least not to the Fallujah of late 2007.

None of the 3/5 Marines – in India Company or any other – have been killed or even wounded since their current tour began in the summer this year.

Amazing! And the msm has touted this how many times?

I always love seeing his pictures of the Iraqi children smiling at our troops, because it's exactly what we want to see- the future of Iraq looking to Americans as friends and heroes. Another great report, Michael.

“I definitely think it was necessary,” he said. “I don't have any regrets. I'm glad I did it, and I would do it again. It's good to see the city the way it is and to go to the same neighborhoods. They're so much cleaner now. These people are doing things on their own, they're taking care of their own stuff. When I was here three years ago, I never would have imagined this place would ever be like it is now. It reminded me of Tijuana. When we got here it just seemed like everything you could think of that was bad, this city had it going on. Now they have regular families thriving in the city. There are people working neighborhood watch, working together. It has turned around a lot. I didn't even want to come on this deployment, but now seeing the city the way it is, I'm glad I did. It's like a closure on everything.”

That says it all.

Come to think of it -- if Satan did start publishing revisionist reports from Hell, saying how they just had a different culture down there, and really, in many ways it's better than American culture -- the MSM would just love it, and Satan would have a Pulitzer on his mantlepiece in no time.

F*cking CNN... After describing the couragious actions of the female security guard at that Colorado church yesterday, they conveniently mention that the church was started by somebody who was ousted (I think they said last year) after accusations of a sex-for-money relationship with a male prostitute (isn't sex for money the whole point of prostitution?)...

What the hell does that have to do with yesterday's shootings? Nothing at all -- just an opportunity to take a jab at Christians (or the religious in general, murderous jihadis excepted, of course, as CNN and the MSM in general support them) , as usual...

Profssional Socialist Alcoholic Asshole Chris Hitchens got both barrels from readers of the National Post today for his deeply anti-Semitic screed about "backward, tribal Jews" last week. Hitch was a communist for most of his life, and has never formally repudiated this vile creed. It surprises me little that this drunken stumblebum harbors deep resentment toward Jews, as well as Christians. His "anti-jihad" stance is looking more and more similar to that of VB et al.

From today's paper:

Christopher Hitchens infuriated many readers last week after he dismissed the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah as “childish” and “the triumph of tribal Jewish backwardness.”

“Every once in a while we have our new saviour, Christopher Hitchens, to redeem us from the evil and fallacy inherited with Judaism and its little brother, Christianity,” added Monique David. “He is the new shepherd of humanity and will instruct us in the enlightening power of atheism.”

I hate to see another fracture develop in the anti-jihad community, but you can count me out of any support for this Jew-hating socialist lush from now on.

96 daughter of patriots  Mon, Dec 10, 2007 10:28:20am

OT: Saudi Arabia gleefully taking in Gauntonamo jihadists:

Another former Guantanamo detainee, Khalid al-Hubayshi, 32, now works in the customer service department of a local Saudi Internet provider. He was married in February with the help of $20,000 from the Saudi government, which bought him a white Toyota Corolla upon his release and continues to provide him a monthly stipend of $800.

Hubayshi was a self-proclaimed jihadist enraged by images of Muslims massacred during the wars in Bosnia and went to the Philippines to fight. He was training in Afghanistan when U.S. forces began bombing there, and said he was sold to Pakistani authorities and was later turned over to U.S. officials.

‘I was young. I was idealistic. I was full of zeal’
"I was not there to fight Americans, but if the Americans had come into ground battle in Afghanistan, either I would have killed him or he would have killed me," Hubayshi said. "I was young. I was idealistic. I was full of zeal."

Hubayshi said he is unsure why he was sent home ahead of others with less involvement in Islamic insurgency. He said he told U.S. interrogators during more than 100 sessions that he was not a member of al-Qaeda or the Taliban.

Unlike Dossari, Hubayshi — among a small group of Saudis to leave Guantanamo in 2005 — was imprisoned for nearly a year after his return to Saudi Arabia. But ultimately senior Saudi officials told him that he had learned his lesson.

Whether that turns out to be true is the central question for everyone, experts said.

"The proof will ultimately be in the pudding," said Bradford A. Berenson, a Washington lawyer who was associate counsel to Bush from 2001 to 2003. "If a lot of them end up in terror cells and on battlefields, we'll know that it doesn't work well enough to trust."

Capitalism buys a lot of carbon offsets...
Al Gore is criticised for lining his own pockets after £3,300-per-minute green speech

Al Gore has come under fire for making personal gain from his mission to save the planet – after charging £3,300 a minute to deliver a poorly received speech.

The former American Vice-President was also accused of being "precious" at the London event, demanding his own VIP room and ejecting journalists, despite hopes the star-studded gathering would generate publicity for the fight against global warming.

Many of the audience at last month's Fortune Forum summit were restless as Mr Gore, who has won both a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for his campaigning work this year, delivered the half-hour speech that netted him £100,000.

He's greenish. After flying in to Oslo to pick up his Nobel Prize, he's jetting off to Bali to participate in the global warming conference there.

Yes, that's quite the way to reduce your own carbon footprint there. Buying indulgences isn't going to save the environment one bit. You're still polluting. You're still bespoiling the environment. You're still a hack who did nothing on global warming when you had a chance to do something in the 1990s, and your Administration opposed Kyoto and prevented the US from joining that ruinous racket.

Of course, your tune has changed greatly since you can personally benefit from going green; the green you seek is for your pockets.

You are a charlatan Mr. Gore. (well, that's the polite term).

I'll bet the "Hate the United States and All It Stands For" ratbags just wish patriots like Michael J. Totten who present events that do not agree with the party line would just disappear. However, as evidence that MSM journalists are not all bad, we have Max Becherer from Time, who is also a patriot.

I believe people like Mr. Totten have prevented the left from polluting our sources of information with its vicious hatred for patriots who put their lives on the line to defend the United States and the Free World from tyrants and thugs, the way the left did during the 'Nam War. Back then the left could lie so many times the lie became what was perceived to be the truth. "We lost the Vietnam War" is one such lie.

Actually this is potentially useful as a weapon. Imagine a "gay-love-drug" that could be deployed on enemy troops, turning the enemy camp into a massive homos3xual love-fest! Believe it or not, the US almost worked on such a weapon in the 90s:

The US military investigated building a "gay bomb", which would make enemy soldiers "sexually irresistible" to each other, government papers say.

re: #1 zombie

Has Totten won the Pulitzer yet?

Why not?

Totten's work is valuable, but I'm not sure where it rates on a journalistic scale. It's a little too raw and random. It's data, not info, as they say.

I read a lot of what he reports as saying we've had very poor military leadership. Not the guys on the line, but the commanders who put them through it.

Maybe things are getting better, and whatever happened in Fallujah can just stay in Fallujah. Maybe we've all learned some stuff, troops and commanders, friends and enemies. Everyone but Democrats, and maybe even some of those. But Totten's Pulizter is held up by the continued "ambiguity" on all sides. Maybe if peace truly breaks out, he gets one then.
