Party in Baghdad

Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 6:02:49 pm PST

Well, what’s gotten into Reuters this New Year’s Eve? In a safer Baghdad, Iraqis party for 2008.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - On New Year’s Eve Ridaa al-Azzawi squeezed into his pointy snakeskin boots, his tight black sweater and his snazzy corduroy flared jeans, hustled down to a Baghdad hotel ballroom and partied for peace.

2008 arrived in a less-violent Baghdad, and residents said it was the first real party they had seen in years.

Good to see Iraqis speaking of hope for the future.

And I love the part about the guy hoping to go out and meet some girls.

A'ash al Iraq!

And Thank You, our Blessed Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines!

(Of course, al-REuters had to say, the party "had a tentative feel." I guess the reporter was waiting for a bomb to go off and was disappointed.)

Grimly, he intoned.

"I haven't seen a happy place like this in so long. I wanted to see if I could maybe meet a few girls!" he said. "I only hope the Iraqi people can enjoy more happy times like this."

F**K harry reid. That is amazingly great news and I hope the Iraqis realize who is responsible for this possibility and thank them as often as they can. I could not be more proud of our brave and brilliant US forces! Thank God (literally) that we have them.

I finished that essay. I think the fellow down-played Hellenic and Hellenic/Christian (Byzantium) architecture and science which never did die out, as in no dark age. And while Babylon did have the zero, the Muslims got it from India. As for algebra, he is correct that it is entirely unislamic, as the mathematicians were Christians in occupied land, but they were building upon Hellenic foundations (primarily geometric and Cartesian calculations ). All that having been said. The essay as a whole is right on.

You know whats funny to me, I was watching the Pats/G-men game the other night and thought that the G-men had won the game. They only showed the G-men had 35 points, I figured that they must have won. Oh wait, that did not happen, they actually showed both scores and the G-men lost the game 38 - 35. Why do we never hear about the numbers of animalistic terrorist they have been sent to hell in those reports? (rhetorical)

re: #56 Bob in Breckenridge

It means that every single loss on our side is a tragedy...but 800 in one year is an amazingly LOW number for combat losses in one year.

Other than the fact that it is deaths, it is quite an impressive number. We should be bragging that they only got 800. That number is remarkably LOW!

800 loses in one year is a success...not a loss. So boo hooo to those that try to use that # against the mission. And whaaaaaaa to them too. Pathetic, ignorant, shmucks! No grasp of reality.

That is what that is supposed to mean.

Oh, Noam!

Do you feel represented?

Hell, no! In fact, I have a number of threads over at Powerline questioning this man's connections to CAIR and the rest of the Hamas front groups.

I have a friend who had KE's lawn sign in her front yard last year. I sent her a note suggesting she look into who she's supporting.

She didn't wish to discuss it, saying her politics are personal - even though she proudly put up a lawn sign.

Why don't lefties want to debate their political choices?

A lot of people here on LGF were saying the same thing!

I was at a point where I was tired of defending the man....but I never gave up on him....or our troops! I knew that, just like Lincoln did, Bush would find the right General and turn this thing around.

They pose centrist, but it's a Carterite / Bakerish kinda crowd levened with RINOs from what I have seen (I haven't dug much into them yet, that's on the list for when I get back from vacation. )
Their article at Wiki also thinks states that it might be a masked "spoiler candidate" but nobody's clear from which side they will come yet.

Here's the official site, wouldn't hurt for a few to sign up and get the newsletters so we can figure out what they are really about:

Mismanagement? That's a f*cking buzz word that John F'n Kerry and the MSM have shoved down your throat so often that you actually believe it!
Did Lincoln mismanage the Civil War also? Would it have gone any different if he used different tactics? I believe that it went exactly the way it was supposed to go. It took four years, but the North won in the end.
Maybe this war went the way, maybe it was supposed to play out like it did. Maybe if the Iraqis didn't have to deal with al-Qaeda for a few years they wouldn't have turned against them s dramatically....did you ever think of that?

I don't like chocolate, either. But I drank more vodka when I was in Soviet Studies than I really care to remember; I swear, I'll never, so long as I live, drink another iced shot, or eat black bread, onion, caviar and frackin' herring again!

I had a friend in college who had a BA in Russian. Man, could he put down the vodka.

How the Russians celebrate Chanukah

For real?!

They drank the bottles empty before sticking in the candles.

I was wondering about fumes.

I have lived in "Pump your own" states and I much prefer to let someone else do it. Of course, gassing up the vehicles is on the husbands chore list not mine.

Oregon and New Jersey, what a weird combo.

I was in New Jersey on business once years ago. I was suprised that had to purchase your wine at a store and bring it with you. The restaurant that we ate at was allowed to serve, but not sell. No that is strange.

Given some time, I could think of better uses for a Trillion dollars, and 4000 American lives, than to enable a bunch of Baghdadis to whoop it up on New Years.

Funny you say this.

While I think there are legitimate gripes as to the way some of the operation has been handled over the years, all in all, an exclamation point on all of our efforts trying to reshape a part of the world without hope, a part of the world less than 20 years ago, had no dancing, but Kurdish children lying dead in the streets of Halabja, folks getting a chance to celebrate, live life as normal human beings, is a great success.

Recognize, when we liberated Paris, they danced.

They danced in the streets of New York City.

On Christmas Day in 1991, Warsaw Pact Nations were able to celebrate, thanks to the efforts of the people who seek freedom not for themselves only, for everyone.

This is a good thing.

We will truly realize this, years down the road.

Do you have any idea the amount of pressure this man has been under the last few years? The entire world and most of his country were telling him to give it up, to get out of Iraq. But he didn't....he never gave up!
A lot of people here on LGF were saying the same thing!

I was at a point where I was tired of defending the man....but I never gave up on him....or our troops! I knew that, just like Lincoln did, Bush would find the right General and turn this thing around.

And I'd like to slap the shit out of all those naysayers like Harry Reid....the entire Democrat party...and ChenZhen!

After defeating Iraq, a sane military commander would of put Iraq under two weeks of martial law and recovered all the weapons held by civilians and the military. Instead Bush allowed a two week free-for-all that looked great in the media, but resulted in thousands of unnecessary deaths of civilians and American troops. This is not hind-site, myself and many others shared the same opinion after the defeat of Iraq. Discuss the initial occupation with troops over there and see what they think about this issue.
Now I'm off to track down some fire works, where did I leave the mortar tubes?

re: #100 Noam Sayin'

Unions ,maybe?

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Whatever stigma may be associated with the connaisseur of 24-bingo, I'm fairly certain it's still at least one step up from the apartment complex with the marquis claiming to feature video poker in its lobby.

I'd jump in but as a citizen of the great city of LV, I am sworn to secrecy. You know the old "What happens here stays here deal". But I checked and I am allowed to report that the 24-bingo deal is in fact not in the top 10 things to do while in Vegas.

re: #221 Noam Sayin'

There's not talking to them. She's my friend, and I love her very much, but she's indoctrinated into an ideology (global warming included, even though she drives a big-ass SUV) from which her escape requires a major reconstruction and a whole lot of "feeling bad" about the newfound position in life. Not many people are up to that challenge.

I've found it liberating - I'm a classic liberal, afterall:

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

This much we pledge—and more.
To those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins we share, we pledge the loyalty of faithful friends. United, there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures. Divided, there is little we can do—for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds and split asunder.

To those new States whom we welcome to the ranks of the free, we pledge our word that one form of colonial control shall not have passed away merely to be replaced by a far more iron tyranny. We shall not always expect to find them supporting our view. But we shall always hope to find them strongly supporting their own freedom—and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.

To those peoples in the huts and villages across the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required—not because the Communists may be doing it, not because we seek their votes, but because it is right. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

I was just about forgetting Condi - and Bush - and then I was reminded of their upcoming trip. Seems a spectacularly unpromising way to start off the year, I fear horrible things from every direction.

But did you see the mclaughlin group this week? Apparently Mac and the other crypto-joohaters still think the Bush/Condi two-step is the best idea in town. Only Buchanan looked at them like they were idiots. It's getting weird out there, when Buchanan has the more objective view of Israel's best interests.

[Link: www.guardian.co.uk...]

Ten day old itinerary:

After Israel and the West Bank, Bush is to visit Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the only country on the list he has visited before. He hosted a meeting of regional leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh in 2003.

Obviously, Bush has to get the stink of Israel off himself, before gaining access to the magic kingdom of his good buddies the Sauds.

Well, going off line for the rest of the year shortly.

Better days, lizardos and lizardettes!

Are you really? I am, offline, but not like I was before having 4 kids. That brought out the fighting spirit in me...I was brought up in a 'Children should be seen and not heard' era...born in 1938.

The first time I really felt the steel in my spine was when my now 44-year old son was starting school. We had moved from a district where the cut-off date for entering kindergarten was 1 Dec. to a district where it was 31 Dec. The principal of the local school wanted to put my son in 1/2 day kindergarten and 1/2 day Grade 1.

After the first day, the teachers of both grades spoke to me, and told me that he clearly belonged in Grade 1. He had been in an all-day nursery school for a full year, with a teacher from the UK who really was fantastic. I went into the Principal's office while my husband stayed outside with our 2 younger kids. (#4 was born 3 years later.) I told him what the teachers had said, and that we wanted him in Grade 1. The principal warned me that he might start wetting the bed, name it...I told him to put my son in grade 1 or...

He was put in Grade 1, and did beautifully. I went on to be class mother a zillion times for all 4 kids, and PTA board at Hebrew and public school, and never looked back...I found my voice, and used it.

Mandy taught me all the good stuff! ;)

You guys are driving me nuts here!(admittedly, it ain't a long road to travel)

A Limerick is a whimsical poem of 5 lines, where the last sounds of the first two lines rhyme, and the last sounds of the 3rd and 4th lines also rhyme. The last sound of the 5th, last line, rhymes with the last sound of the first two lines.

As in:

There was a bad man in Iraq,
Whose best buddy was Jacques Chirac.
He dropped through the floor,
Now he ain't anymore.

Well, have to go to our New Years Eve party next door. Each year one of us picks out a movie to watch, which has to be over by midnight, and it better be good or you'll hear about it until next NYE.

It's my turn this year. I picked this one.

Be safe ALL of you, and we'll chat next year! It truly is a pleasure and privilege reading and posting on LGF. Thank you, Charles!

It is actually Blue Ball, singular.

Funny little story there, there are several towns all situated around Intercourse. If you go through in one direction, you get Blue Ball, another direction, Bird in Hand, but, if you co through the correct way, you end up in Paradise.

Days of My Life

Excerpt: "...One of the things that made me happy, is the streets in Baghdad were clean, and in the road junctions there were beautiful gardens with roses and some of them had fountains..
it’s strange, how people in Baghdad slept on one day feeling afraid from the unknown future, and had no idea what’s happening, then in the next day suddenly the killing stopped, the situation calmed down, and the sun shone after long time of darkness, no one knows how nor why .. is it a Truce? or it is a bargain?!..."

No that is strange.

s

Plenty of restaurants in Australia like that (maybe not anymore). They charge a "corking fee" for corking and pouring the wine.

Not according to the Jerusalem Post:
Bush will not visit Arafat's tomb

Palestinian Authority officials on Monday expressed deep disappointment after learning that US President George W. Bush, who is expected to visit Ramallah soon, does not intend to lay a wreath at Yasser Arafat's tomb.
Bush, who is also expected to visit Jericho and Bethlehem, does not even plan to pass near the tomb.

Smiles! I can imagine all those small Lutheran parish churches in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, the organists, of greater talents and smaller, devoted to contributing to the exaltation of the worshipers, each according to his talent--and only the meanest hiding his talent away. A Buxtehude or a Pachelbel might have been given five talents, but so many given fewer did strive well to translate the gospels into living song for those gathered at worship. And so they helped their fellow communicants to realize their beliefs in pious, merciful action and to recognize their acting as joy.

I think on another thread, Mandy Manners mentioned something about "remembering" Y2K. For those interested in a little humor, here is a column I wrote for the Denver Post in Jan. 2001.

Notes on a non-event. Y2K is OK.

Denver. Dec. 31st, 1999, 6:00 am. I awakened early, intent on turning on the TV to watch the chaos sweep over the Earth, time zone by time zone, like a slow moving Angel of Death, stopping by the planets door posts, looking for signs of Y2K non-compliance. Which of the first-born of the new century will survive? The blood of many years of preparation, many days of employees working overtime and many hours of meetings had become a badge that would decide if the creatures that walk this world would survive into the next millennium. But my 4 dogs needed to be put out, some holiday trash had to be bagged and removed, the carpet cleaned of the many footprints of the past week’s guests and a few dishes needed attending to. The TV remained black.

Denver. Dec. 31st, 1999, 2:00 PM. My wife went to work. As a healthcare professional for the City of Denver, she was part of the Y2K team that would await the coming of the end. Scheduled to be sequestered in downtown Denver for 13 hours, she was ready to give comfort and aid to the victims of our impending technological hiccup, the burp heard around the world. After she left for work, I felt confidant that I now could sit down and in front of the TV and watch the most exciting video game of the century. But my 4 dogs needed to be put out again, the Christmas tree was screaming for some water and a call from my brother in Dallas occupied another two hours of my afternoon.

Denver. Dec. 31st, 1999, 7:00 PM. With my police scanner in my lap, a fresh supply of batteries and a 6 pack of adult libations I sat down in my potato lounger, flipped on the TV and scanned the channels to catch up on all of the chaos that I had missed. I couldn’t even find a single religious leader who would concede that our worst fears were coming true. And then two friends of mine called (thank goodness the phones hadn’t stopped working yet) and asked if they could come over and keep me company. The TV went black (don’t worry... I turned it off) and I scurried around making sure the house was clean enough to host a last minute end of the world party. Of course the dogs had to go out again.

Denver. Dec. 31st, 1999, midnight. As we sat around my computer playing “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” I turned to my friends and asked them what time it was. Lee looked at his watch and said “12.01.” I said “good” and proceeded to answer the 500,000 thousand-dollar question. It was my final answer, I was sure and I was wrong. My friends left a little while after that.

Denver. Jan. 1st, 2000, 2:00 am. After I let the puppy’s back in the phone rang. It was my wife. She was letting me know that nothing much was going on and that she expected to be getting off on time. I shut off the Christmas lights, locked the doors and retired to bed. I didn’t turn the TV back on. As I drifted off to sleep I reflected on the determination of the human spirit, our resolve to continue on no matter what the challenge and I was secure in the knowledge that I knew all along that Y2K was nothing to get worried about. You weren’t worried... were you?

What a great reminder. When the witching hour approached here in rural SC, we were gathered at my in-laws for our annual countdown and multiple weapon discharge (that was during my redneck days). Ugh, a limerick much adhere more closely to anapestic trimeter--with an iambic substitution allowed in the first foot.

I know a cruel man from Iraq,
Who spurned that glib Frenchie Chirac
When that feloneous* frog,
Adrift in the fog,
Might foolishly take his graft back.

-----
*True, "feloneous" is not a true word, but limericks can sometimes play this, way, adding syllables if they seem funny. I happen to like alliteration, so I forced the rhyme. The second minor line here departs strictly from trimeter, but keeps the same rhythmic flow.

This time in 2000, I had just found out I was pregnant and was flipping out! I'd had my (then) husband served with separation papers. I had no idea what the future held and I was so wrapped up in my own stuff that I really didn't give a shit what was happening else where.

Eight years later, IT'S ALL GOOD!

I was in IT at the time, working for the D.O.E and we spent most of the year getting ready for the date flip.

A lot of folks sat back after the century turned and complained "see, nothing happenned... blah, blah, blah...," but take it from someone who was in the "trenches."

Nothing much happenned because of all the time, money and hard work that was going on behind the scenes.

It would have, in the least, been a big pain in the rear for months if the "bugs" had not been taken care of.

re: #402 M. Bensson-Levi

A marvelous piece of machinery that delivers a round of questionable reliability as a fight stopper

What makes you say that?

Well, it's like this; The object of shooting someone is not to kill them, but to prevent them from killing (or harming) YOU, or some one else.

You want to hit them with the shock of a baseball bat, or sledgehammer, to the chest, to totally disrupt their function, to prevent them from pulling a trigger again, even once.

A .380/9mmkurtz(short), will not do that reliably except for a brain/ CNS hit.

You can deliver a lethal hit, and the SOB can still empty a full magazine at you...well aimed shots, too...he may not even know that he's been hit...and take 5, 10 minutes, or more, to bleed out, and die. After he's shot you, it doesn't matter whether you've delivered a fatal shot to him, or not! You haven't prevented him from killing you, or harming you , or someone else. An enraged, or drugged up, man, even unarmed can beat you to death before he dies, even though you have delivered a fatal shot to him.

The object is to knock him on his ass with a torso shot, totally disrupting his function. A .380 will not reliably do this...a .44Special, a .45ACP, a 9mm(with the right bullet), a .40 S&W, a .38Spl.+P (with the right bullet) and some other large caliber, or Magnum rounds will knock even an enraged maniac on his ass, whether it kills him or not. You want to kill him, shoot him again, at your leisure.

There are plenty of handy, compact .45ACP pistols that are reliable one shot fight stoppers. Check out Cartman's post.

Bigger calibers have greater recoil, of course, but, with training, you can handle it.

If you want more info let me know, I'd be glad to help you out with my 2 cents worth...well, you've already gotten 2 cents worth...I'll go to a dime, even.

And ya know, if we're just a teensy bit lucky such that our NATO Allies should gain a backbone (excluding the Canadians who already do) and actually carry the fight to the Taliban, ruthlessly and with great vigor, then, since 9/11/01 by the end of '08, we could have a more or less working democracy smack dab in the ME in Iraq (I for one STILL remember those millions of purple fingers) have chased Al-Q from Afghanistan - and the Taliban too, possibley have a true WAR ally in Pakistan; Iran and Syria have already said NO THANKS to having AL-Q in Iran, Syria or Lebanon and thus AL-Q will no longer have sanctuary in any nation in the World. Can you say "Bye, bye Al-Quaeda"? I knew you could.
Oh and as an extra bonus, with the continued hounding and pressuring of the jihadists, we might very well not have any attacks in the USA - that'd be ZERO attacks after 9/11.

My impression of the whole thing was that us IT people knew that a lot of what the media said and the public believed was way over the top, but it helped bring attention to the possible problems, thus, we were able to get the needed corporate and/or govement funding to take care of the items that would really be needed to fix. To be honest with you, I never saw a government agency (the D.O.E) move as fast to fund something as I did when we got almost everything we wanted for Y2K.

It has been called that. They have a big lit up "M" that sits on the side of Lookout Mountain, which overlooks Golden. Some say the "M" is to remind the students that it's a mountain. The students say it's to remind the "flatlanders" that it's mountain.

There's always a lot of good-natured "funin'" being made of the school and it's student population.

You sound like a man who knows what he's talking about. I've heard often here, that the 40 SW is the caliber to go with for stopping power - even over the 9mm. I believe that's the PPS (police pistol slim) in that category if I'm going with the Walther.

By all means, the firearm is my weapon of last resort for my home defense. I'm an accomplished martial artist, and happen to have weapon like material in nearly every corner of the house. I can make a forced entry very difficult for a number of individuals (considering layout, lighting, and such). For that matter, I don't keep the weapon loaded, and it's in the safe, bolted to the wall, when I'm not around.

That being said, I live in the inner city and a 9mm round can travel to the outside of the "conflict spectrum." What's your take on frangible bullets?

Gosh I love the lizardim wisdom here.

OK.

No there is not. It's a very well respected institution and the student population is very well mannered. That's not to say they don't have a good time at their age, and as evidenced by the party over my head, they know how to rock, but it's certainly not like the "apes" up at CU in Boulder.

I've worked with the School of Mines. They've hired the theatre I work for to supply entertainment for a number of national conferences. I've written a few short 1/2 hour comics sketches for them. The last one was a game show take off called "The Missing Link" for the Society of Women Engineers.

re: #542 LoFlyer

Agreed, with regards to the more dire Y2K predictions. I'd like to clear that up. But I'll provide an example. One of the Y2K solutions I worked on was for a regional energy supplier. One of the first benchmarks in our methodology was to show each client just exactly what would happen when the clock struck midnight. Without going into boring details, system dates were feigned at 01/01/01, which was the common programmed date format for most large mainframe and midrange computers. Production cycles were executed under said scenario and literally took a dump, sometimes during the execution of the very first program. We invited the client to run contingency drills, that assumed the date manipulation code would never have been modified. Long story short, it often took individual programmer analysts days, sometimes weeks to correct the code in a subsystem just so the programs/subsystems would run to end-of-job. Also keep in mind that some real-time technical/mechanized systems run by this client were supported by mainframe or midrange computers running code with faulty date logic and/or manipulation. Bottom line is the client declared that most (if not all) computing systems under their ownership would have taken weeks to function properly once again.

Sorry for the dissertation. I don't sleep very well these days, so I've become a night owl with too much time on my hands! ;-D

Do go upstairs. Bring a bottle of something - not just one beer. Leave the space rocks at home. If by chance you happen to meet an astronomy geek (it happens) invite her by for a gander at your rocks. (heh)

They're college students, so you place needn't be scrupulously clean, but tidy up the joint a bit. Dirty drawers on the register are a bit of a turn-off (I've learned).

Above all, act like they've needed your presence for several hours. "Didn't your mothers teach you how to party" is a good break-in line. However, you must take it up a notch upon your arrival. A funnel, some 1" polymer tubing and a good supply of beer should suffice. A quarter ounce bag of Kine bud should totally win them over.

Above all, make the girls wait to talk to you. This lowers the defenses of the alpha and lesser males.

Remember, you are older and more charming than any 23-yo male could possibly hope to be. Your looks mean nothing at this point. If by chance you run into a 23-yo male who is better looking and more charming than you, give him a 'shoulder hug' - with that rasta 'knife poke' in the back and you're set. You won't get the hottest girl, but you get the next three or four.

A Walther PPK is a lot easier to conceal than a .45. I'll take the less stopping power in favor of concealment. Believe me, you empty a 380 clip into someone and they will have issues.

You have never been in a gunfight.

It's a hot and extremely kinetic experience, even with only one opponent, let alone multiple targets. Multiple hits with a .380 will certainly give someone pause. In real life, you may only get one hit on a target. How much of an issue do you figure a torso hit with a .380 will give someone? Enough so they won't shoot you, or beat you to death?

Everyone wants to carry a small, light gun, but when the proverbial shit hits the fan, they want the biggest gun they've ever heard of. Somewhere in between is reality.

Anyone who stakes his life on a .380, when other options are available, is a complete fucking idiot. To carry a .380 in favor of a .45ACP solely because of some perceived concealment advantage, betrays ignorance well founded on stupidity.

There may be reasons to carry a .380 for defensive purposes, rather than a compact .45ACP. Ease of concealment ain't one of 'em.

That's one thing I totally concede as our better half's finer attributes - they're not "about" age (gawd, aren't women terrific?).

As a man who has consistently dated women 20 years his junior, however, I can say it's tough to find someone who shares the same cultural appreciation - particularly in this day and age. If you're looking for love - ask them about an older sister.

If it's purely physical, show them what older men know - but be satisfied with that.

Of course, there's always a chance you find that worldly young woman who is interested in the things you know. My college advisor's wife - a most incredible woman of roughly my age - fell deeply in love with him despite their age, and they were the cutest couple you would ever see. But know that he was one of the most incredibly wonderful human beings you would ever meet.

Spot on observation on your part. She was married, 2 lovely little girls and yes, it was totally physical. She seem to need someone (for a while) who knew how to "make love" to her.

I have a saying I created that explains that. Having sex is something you do for yourself, at times with the help of another person. Making love is what you do for another person, together.

Gosh I love the lizardim wisdom here.

Oh, and Happy New Year. 2007 is over, finally.

I have never used frangible bullets so I can't speak about them, other than to say that I've heard good things about them. I'd have to do my own testing before I came to any conclusion.

An unloaded gun is a paperweight.

Every firearm in my house has a piece that makes it go BANG out of it, and elsewhere, when I'm not around. I walk into my house, someone shoots at me, they had to bring their own gun, they're not using one of mine.

I live in the woods. My closest neighbor is half a mile, or so, away. Overpenetration is not a concern of mine. My first choice for home defense is a 5.56mm semi auto with a 30 round magazine. Definitely not a good choice for an urban environment.

You should not hesitate to make a firearm your weapon of FIRST resort in your own home.
First of all, it is your home, you have not invaded another's space to do evil, you are entitled to the best defense that is available to you, and that is a fire arm.
Second, you can better control a situation, often without having to resort to actual violence, with a fire arm than a baseball bat. The object is to prevent injury, or death to yourself or another person, NOT win a fight. You don't want the fight to happen. If it does, better a firearm in your hand than a baseball bat. You can't project deadly force from 20 feet away with a baseball bat. I'm sure that you get the picture.

Think about it. Also, rehearse scenarios in your house. You'll be surprised at the things that you'll find out.

Well, enough of Levi's Home Combat Course, and Practical Pontification.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As someone who has investigated a fair amount of shootings, I have to agree with
M. Bensson- Levi. Most gunfights end with one or two hits, and a .380 is not a reliable stopper. Bigger is better. .38spl. +P is about the minimum. .40 is good. .45 is better. I have seen a number of shooting victims with a .380 that has failed to penetrate face, skull, and clothing. I don't go out without less than . .38+P, and usually a .45

I have no problem mopping up blood after defending my home with the numerous martial art weapons stationed in obscure points but, as M Bensson ponts out it's much more beneficial not getting into the shit to begin with. Clearly, if I'm going to defend my home with a firearm, there must be a night-time and morning regimine for securing and unsecuring the weapon.

I have no experience in real life scenarios with true frangibles other than Glaser safety slugs. They have been (in 4 shootings) instant 1 shot stops. True frangibles (like SinterFire) are compressed powder. They don't have much penetration, but there is no richochet or over penetration problems.
