-RetweetWireless Debate Prompting Intercepted?

Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 1:06:39 pm PST

I heard this too—at last night’s debate Mitt Romney may have received a whispered prompt on a trick question from Tim Russert (about raising taxes), possibly via some kind of wireless device. Western Standard has the video I was thinking of posting.

It could be a moderator, or someone unrelated, but it certainly looks and sounds ... suspicious.

Just watched the Romney video. What's weird about it is that the mystery voice that says "He raised taxes" said so while the questioner was still finishing the question. Which is even extra-odd -- how did the mystery helper respond pre-instantly like that?

Could it be that this is a DOUBLE scandal: that the Romney team had a copy of the questioner's notes BEFORE the debate? AND then they set up a secret radio transmissionn to help Romney?

Seems odd that Mitt would be able to recall that in 1983 Reagan raised taxes. The response is so quick- I would have had to think about it for a moment myself, whereas he immediately responds to this whisper. I'd guess he heard it.

Doesn't everyone know Reagan raised taxes before he cut them, drastically?

31 pal2pal  Fri, Jan 25, 2008 1:16:10pm

That's not so odd. All these pols have a stock of prepared talking points (mostly put together by their staff) they can whip out. It's like being on a job interview. He is listening closely, but it may just be trying to distinguish the question from background noise.

39 zombie  Fri, Jan 25, 2008 1:18:54pm

What makes no sense is how the radio transmission sound would have made it from Romney's purported hidden earpiece to the microphone. There's just no way the microphone would have picked it up and yet the other candidates would not have heard it.

More likely (now that I'm grokking the whole set-up there) is that someone else -- not a candidate, but rather either one of the questioners or someone in the control booth -- said "He raised taxes," and their microphone (not Romney's microphone) picked it up. And that it didn't specifically have anything to do with Romney at all.

Tim Russert tried to play gotcha with Romney, by asking if he'd do what Reagan did. If Romney simply said yes, Russert could then spring it on him: Reagan raised taxes.

Not really, if you're asking about Reagan and taxes (which any moderator is going to do), you'd be prepped to know that he raised and lowered taxes during his term. Most focus on the changes in 1986, but he raised 'em earlier.

John F-Ing Kerry blasts Bill Clinton for 'abusing truth'

WASHINGTON (CNN) — John Kerry, the Democratic Party's 2004 nominee for president, took aim at Bill Clinton Friday, telling the National Journal the former president does "not have a license to abuse the truth."

The Massachusetts senator, who endorsed Barack Obama's White House bid earlier this month, said Clinton's criticisms of the Illinois senator have been "over the top," and suggested the former president is getting "frantic."

Targeting Clinton's recent spate of attacks on Obama, Kerry said, "I think you had an abuse of the truth, is what happened. ...I mean, being an ex-president does not give you license to abuse the truth, and I think that over the last days it's been over the top.

Maybe he should have a chat with Jimmah.

"grokking"?

Grokking.

Grok means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes a part of the observed—to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience. It means almost everything that we mean by religion, philosophy, and science—and it means as little to us (because of our Earthly assumptions) as color means to a blind man.

This was common playground parlance for "understand" when I was growing up. Instead of kids in earlier generations who might have said "I dig you" or whatever, we little'uns would say, "Oh, I grok you." I thought it was commonplace kid-slang! Hmmm, maybe only in my part of the country.

At issue is what, whether or not Romney instantly knew off the top of his head what Reagan did in 1983?

Does anyone SERIOUSLY think Romney can't answer basic questions about taxation? That's his bread and butter.

I think the substance of his answer is far more important than that, or whatever microphone glitch transmitted "He raised taxes" through the mike system.

(By the way, it wasn't necessarily even Romney's mike. . .I'd imagine there were multiple live mikes on during that debate).

More importantly is what in the hell is Tim Russert doing asking a “Trick” question? The Republicans need to demand fair moderators at debates. The whole purpose of the debates is to expose the candidates to the public so that we can get a grip on their positions. The purpose is not to trick the candidates into making a mistake. Any moderator that tries to trick candidates should be removed from hosting any debate in the future, both Democrat and Republican debates. I do not mind, in fact I want tough questions asked, but make the questions clear and to the point so that we get straight answers from the candidates. Do not play games, the debates should be about an honest presentation of the candidates and where they stand on issues and policies.

re: #78 jdwht

___
Not many moderators are "honest", IMHO . . . of all the ones I've seen so far, I thought Chris Wallace (Fox) was the most neutral, and does not ask all softball questions, like Dem moderators do when questioning the Dems.

Remember the "scandal" at Indianapolis's RCA Dome when the Colts were hosting the Patriots in football? Well, the Krafts, who IIRC own the Patriots (who were caught cheating against the Jets the first game of the season and have had a chip on their shoulder ever since), complained to the league that Indy was piping in artificial crowd noise to help their team.

IIRC, CBS clarified that the noise (heard only on the game broadcast and not in the stadium) was due to feedback originating from their sound trailer.

Nevertheless, the rumor outlives the truth. If it's proven that the sound in the debate was from Brian Williams or the control room, the rumor that it was Romney cheating will persist.

Somebody in the control booth was cueing Russert on his "gotcha" line if Romney fell for the trick question.

Now we're getting somewhere. I tend to agree with this take on it -- it wasn't Romney getting the tipoff, it was Russert (with whom I'm unfamiliar, but I guess we're referring to the tubby questioner).

Yep. And if that is true (which seems quite plausible) what it demonstrates is that Russert is just a talking hairdo (like anyone doubted that). His pretense of intelligence is a carefully scripted prose and works so long as he has his earpiece plugged in.

Look out, here comes the screamn' conspiracy freaks!
I like how..

MSNBC caught it too, and blogged about it (just before they decided to take it down). But the Lew Rockwell blog managed to catch the original post. Here it is:

Read the blog post. The lefty hilliamonger writes.."just one channel of audio saying "not raise taxes" Then Romeny says "I'm not going to raise taxes."

This is utterly false. Listen to the whisper at max volume, or segregate it , (easy enough to do), the whisper says plainly, "raise taxes"

It was meant to be a cue to Russert, because he missed the Gotcha.

single channel audio is always used on set for moderators and talking news heads. It is also used for remote audio on broadcasts for the visiting talking head. Nobody else on the debate floor gets a signal. Romney's only error was answering to soon. He should have paused and asked Russert "did you wish to add something?" That would have exposed TR right away.

I like Mitt he's a good guy and I believe he'll be a fine-great President. He's an over achiever and needs to slack off just a bit.

Shoes for thought, Mittster.

I'm not surprised that this is coming from Lew Rockwell however, the paleocon conspiracy-theory followers focus on savaging the sane and semi-sane Republicans more than they do the left (can you say Luap Nor?)

3/4 of the bile, piss, and vinegar we've put up with in most conservative forums has its genesis with people like that. The internet has been a real boon for them.

It's also like in Europe, the reason there's no alternative to groups like VB is that they spend more time tearing down the other parties on the right than they do the left sometimes; they tend to destroy the alternatives.

Just a couple more points about that book and its effect on the generation that read it. During the late 60s it was passed around from teen to teen with a "you gotta read this" type of recommendation. The 'free love' types that embraced the book and its message went on to 'explore their sexuality' with a multiplicity of partners. The person that gave the book to me went, in a few years, from a thin, beautiful young woman to a grotesque, enormous figure, constantly suffering from auto-immune disorders the rest of her life. I rejected the message of the book and choose to keep my 'pecker in my pocket' and am as healthy as can be. I think you'd enjoy detecting the subtle brainwashing and subliminal messages of the book if you wanted to waste a couple of hours.

zombie, you might enjoy this song from ray davies's new solo album

The Voodoo Walk

When the heat stops you sleeping at night
And the dead leaves rustle around
And the calmness keeps you awake
And you pace around the room

That's the zombie in you manifesting itself
And you cry out loud and nobody can help
And it's a one way sign to the gates of hell
And there's no way back
No, there's no way back
Ain't no wonder you can't sleep at night

You just heard the voodoo call
So you pace around, do the zombie crawl
And you shuffle around in the prison cell
Doing the voodoo walk, dancing with yourself
And you just can't blame
The zombie inside of you

Or the voodoo curse hanging over you
Or the zombie walk, like an old soft shoe
Where the voodoo man's talking inside of you
Doing the voodoo walk, voodoo walk
Ain't no evil spirits round here
Or zombie people or demons with pointy ears
Ain't no spooks waiting to appear

Doing the voodoo walk
Talking the voodoo talk
Or the voodoo howl
Doing the voodoo walk, voodoo walk

Voodoo walk, voodoo walk
Doing the voodoo walk, voodoo walk

And the days are like living in hell
You're not well but you just did it to yourself
You know the look
You can tell by that haunted stare
You're never quite here
You're never quite really there
And the cemetery's empty
‘Cos the zombies are everywhere

Doing the voodoo walk
Talking the voodoo talk
Or the voodoo howl
Doing the voodoo walk

I can say that it's easy to see the 60s free love coming out of a fanatical obsession with Stranger, but surely, young adults of that era would not be so easily swayed that they would demonstrate a slavish devotion to a relative minor pop-culture phenomenon.

186 Peter Verkooijen  Fri, Jan 25, 2008 2:22:46pm

Someone in the Western Standard thread posted this comment that sounds entirely plausible to me:

The whisper was obviously Brian Williams whispering to Tim Russert that he either didn't finish the question right, or how to follow-up, while Tim's mic was still on. Romney heard the whisper (as I suspect everyone else in the hall did - and on TV), and waited until the two of them were finished talking to each other, and then quickly answered the whisper instead of the question as phrased by Tim originally.

This is also evident because Tim so quickly followed up that Regan had raised taxes to save SS, and Romney again reitterated why that was a bad idea.

No one was feeding the candidates... just the MSM moderators that couldn't think to themselves what the best way to spring a 'gotcha' question on a candidate would be. The gotcha king (Russert) flubbed the gotcha question, and Bryan Williams had to coach Tim on it.

I support Rudy Giuliani, but this is just silly.

None of that fake "My Friends" phony noblesse oblige from a royalist clan with a Queen Mother still calling the shots, talking down to people who work for profit--as most of the country has to do, so some can lead for country.

Guess when you come from oil money as McCain's maternal side does, it's tempting to talk down to the "working" stiffs.

I say it's bad McCain form. Ronald Reagan worked in the economy and rose to greatness as a leader. They're not mutually exclusive, working & leading.

OT: From a The Nation article talking about how Obama could hit Hitlery harder if he really wanted to:

John Harris and Jim VandeHei of the Politico noted Hillary's failure at healthcare reform, the legal disbarment of Bill Clinton, and the loss of Congress in 1994 as potential sore spots that Obama could highlight. Mike Tomasky of The Guardian says Hillary's dismissal of Obama as just another smooth talker is also ripe for the pickin'.

"I was kind of surprised back in the New Hampshire era when the Clinton camp was arguing (they've since dropped it) that Hillary represented 'action' while Obama was all 'talk,'" Tomasky writes.

"I thought this was playing with fire. Action? Her biggest action during her husband's tenure, healthcare, was one of the most legendary failures in recent American political history. (And by the way, her generally acknowledged finest moment as first lady - her impressive and important speech on women's and human rights in Beijing - was, by her own campaign's definition, just dismissible 'talk.'")

Obama finally combed through Clinton's "35 years of experience" in Monday's debate, noting her time as a corporate lawyer in Arkansas and tenure on the board of Wal-Mart. But he hasn't really asked what she accomplished during those questionable 35 years or what tough issues she fought for in the Senate, where the New York Times reported "she has few significant legislative accomplishments to her name."

I liked the Dune books, and in the end the Fremen are not thinly disguised; they are Muslims, albeit not Muslims we would recognize (Zensunni, a Herbert invention). In the Herbert Dune universe, religions have been mished and mashed into conglomerations of his own making. The Orange Catholic bible is given a history; it's not "Catholic" or "Christian".

The Jews have survived, but the portrayal is an odd mixture of admiration and overt (IMO) anti-Semitism.

Some of those racist, conservative hate mongers had the temerity to point out that another large city and a very similar majority population and was NOT on the list of least diverse cities.

Hey, waitaminute, the original Dune (since there are about twenty sequels now by Herbert, his son(?), and various staff writers) was and is a great wanking coming of age book, and gives a very nice profile of Islamic culture, to boot. It's basically Lawrence of Arabia, in space, with a young boy protagonist.

Only post 9/11 does it have all these political implications. Published in 1965, between the 1956 and 1967 mideast wars, I think it reflects current events (anything newer than the Ottoman empire!) basically not at all.

Has anyone seen anything in the MSM about Obama's "Kenya Problem"? His wacky church affiliation is starting to get some play at the edges, but I've seen nothing about his support for Odinga.

I never liked Herbert, I thought the Fremen, Sardaukar etc. were thinly disguised Muslims & the others thinly disguised Catholics, and Herbert liked the Fremen best...
Same here. I tried to get through Dune a couple of times. I finally made, but it was hardly worth the effort.

Well there was some ramification, even back then, this was going on in 1964 in Yemen for instance:

The Radfan, 60 miles north of Aden city and 6,000 feet above sea level, is 400 square miles of desolation. Scorching (temperatures reach 150 degrees), almost waterless and roadless, the mountains were home to the Qotaibi tribe, self-described as the "Red Wolves of Radfan" because of their bloodcurdling practices, including beheading. Their stomping ground was the "Sacred Road"--the ancient caravan route from Aden via Dhala to Mecca--which they raided regularly. They numbered 7,500.

As one author put it, "Every male tribesman in the protectorate carried a gun. To go out without one was unthinkable. Shooting each other was their national sport." Combatants included a mix of "disciplined Marxist murderers, primitive tribal pursuers of the blood feud, teenage tearaways and dedicated nationalists"

We conservatives must stop "eating our young". What I mean by that is, all the nominal republican candidates have warts, be he Rudy, Mitt, Huckabee, Mccain, whoever.
You're going to tell me, that you would NOT vote for one of those over the Dem as a 'protest" because the republican isn’t 100% who you want him to be?
So,,, don't vote for the guy that is 50-75% of what you want, and get the guy/ gal that is 100% what you DON"T want.

I hope we’re smarter than that.

255 Jinx  Fri, Jan 25, 2008 3:15:09pm

The msm is very concerned about Mitt. They know he is a very serious contender for the presidency and Hillary couldn't take him even in a staged debate ('course that goes for most of the GOP candidates).

Mitt is sharp and he's done his homework well enough to know where trick questions might come from and he's prepared for that. To me that says a lot about preparing to handle situations. He's not going to be caught on trivial stuff.

The lame ass conspiracy theory that he had a radio on him that a mike picked up is simply ludicrous and is a deflection away from where the true scrutiny should be--moderators asking trick "Gotcha" questions. That's not their job. They are there to moderate and ask questions. Playing this bullshit gotcha game in a debate degrades everyone involved.

Why are the GOPers putting up with this nonsense? Although Fred was not my favorite I do have to hand it to him for not putting up with childish nonsense like raising his hand when he wanted to explain his position. These debates have become more of a joke than anything.

Mitt and Rudy have something in common that I really look forward to in our next GOP presidential candidate--the ability to communicate and lead. That is Bush's greatest downfall and has hindered the republican party. I'd like to see that type of ticket--either way Mitt/Rudy or Rudy/Mitt.

re: #215 JWM

I liked the Dune books, and in the end the Fremen are not thinly disguised; they are Muslims, albeit not Muslims we would recognize (Zensunni, a Herbert invention). In the Herbert Dune universe, religions have been mished and mashed into conglomerations of his own making. The Orange Catholic bible is given a history; it's not "Catholic" or "Christian".

The Jews have survived, but the portrayal is an odd mixture of admiration and overt (IMO) anti-Semitism.

I read the Dune series through to the end, including the last two books done by Frank's Son from his notes that they found.

I found it interesting that it was only the Jews that survived with their religion pretty much intact. And it was told by someone that, seems to me, did not know a whole lot about Judaism. I didn't see overt anti-Semitism that could not be explained by ignorance. But I suffer from the same ignorance, so I may have just missed it.

All the other religions were mashed up beyond recognition, caused notably by Bene Gesserit meddling, but the Bene Tleilaxu seemed to be the inheritors of the legacy of Mohammed, and they were notable in their resistance to the Bene Gesserit. But even they showed signs of the Bene Gesserit meddling.

The Fremen were obviously sourced from Arabic desert nomads, but Shai Hulud had long since supplanted any other god.

On a more worrisome vote, Barbara Boxer is making mince meat of the Bush Admin and Bracewell & Giuliani on the EPA waivers in CA. The man who was skewered was Giuliani's and it will affect how that $7.5 Million from utilities to let them pollute is going to be accepted in the west.

The south will never vote for a liberal/socialist like Obama or Hillary, so Mitt will be OK there, but if he can contest the blue states, that will be the beginning of a majority coalition.

Not completely disagreeing with you.

My take is if Clinton / Obama win with the (D) congress they lose both houses in the next off year in '10. That would effectively block their plans, resulting in 2 years of stalemate. Then the '12 election would depend on who the voters blame for the stalemate.

My POV is this.
I cannot vote for anyone on the (D) slate.
I cannot vote for a 3rd party as that would cut into what will be a narrow margin for the (R) candidate.

If it comes to McCain his record is an order of magnitude better than the (D) choice.

McCain is a ways down on list.

In 1995, New York's mayor Rudy Giuliani ordered Yasser Arafat ejected from a Lincoln Center concert. The New York Times reacted harshly to that.

In today's editorial in which the NYT made their choices of who they wanted as the Dem and GOP nominees (why would this Democratic newspaper have any influence in the Republican contest), they had their chance to blast Giuliani for treating their hero Arafat in such an unloving manner. They used these words to describe Rudy Giuliani:
"know and mistrust", "narrow", "obsessively secretive", "vindictive", "arrogance", "bad judgment", and "shamelessly".

The New York Times wrote all the bad words that they could come up with to fling at Giuliani, because not only did Giuliani eject Arafat from the concert, he has also had the colossal nerve to be supportive of Israel when the New York Times has been demanding that the US punish Israel in every which way and at all times.

In the 60s, when Israel requested to buy F-4 Phantom jets from the US, The New York Times came out editorially against that. And they have always been trying to stir up trouble against Israel. When Hamas became the power in the Palestinian Authority, after Israel withdrew from Gaza, the NYT demanded that the US pressure Israel to fund Hamas.

And Giuliani has been a solid supporter of Israel, in sharp contrast to the efforts of The New York Times to turn the US against Israel. So, being the vindictive, narrow, shameless sort that they are, the editorial board of The New York Times chose to flame Giuliani with words that better describe the character of the editorial board of The New York Times.

Rudy is toast after Florida. The Republicans are toast if McCain is the nomimee. Get to liking Mitt, and give him 100% support. This type of story is meaningless unless we want a Lezident in the White House.

I'm praying that Romney is the nominee - he' not the 100% that I wanted - but I can live with him in the WH.

I really loathe socialism and would prefer to avoid it. McCain won't hinder the socialists - he'll open the border wide open to flood us with them.

re: #367 EE

So, being the vindictive, narrow, shameless sort that they are, the editorial board of The New York Times chose to flame Giuliani with words that better describe the character of the editorial board of The New York Times.

the nyt is full of cowardly little shit men who want to bury a strong courageous person like rudy because just his existence alone is too much of a contrast w/ the ultimately meaningless inconsequential lives they lead. can anyone actually imagine sulzberger going up against the terrorist arafat . lol

I'm sure you're aware Jackson and New Line are hooking up with MGM for The Hobbit.

He is the only one that can do that. I can't wait to see Smaug.

An animated version was made with the voice of John Huston as Gandalf, Richard Boone as Smaug, and Orson Bean (IIRC) as Bilbo. It was quite good, but aimed more for children than adults. Worth seeing.

That was the Rankin/Bass abomination as I recall. Not as bad as Bakshi's attempt at LotR, but still pretty bad.

I rather liked it, for what it was. I agree that Bakshi's LotR, sucked, even allowing for the relatively primitive state of FX, and zero CGI capability. It still sucked.

I look forward to Jackson's version.

I have a Tolkien companion type book (it's at home, I'm at work, not certain of the exact title). In this book, the have an set of maps that show how Arda was changed from a flat world to a round one when the Undyinglands were pulled away.

As you look at the maps, Mordor is right where the Middle-East is now. Tolkein knew. So did CS Lewis.

Susan

I think its called the Simirillion

Actually, it't the Silmarillian

Exactly!
Ohio, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Virgina, Florida and Pensylvania won't vote for Romney. He's running as a conventional Republican. That won't work in this enviornment. It would've worked in 96 or 2000. Not in 2008.

Conventional? WTF?

He's not a Washington insider like Hillary, McCain and Obama.
He's not a legislator like Hillary, McCain and Obama.
He doesn't have personal family issues that can be a major distraction like Hillary and Rudy.
He's definitely no dummy. He's a very sharp communicator unlike our current president. No offense to Bush, but if he was a better communicator he would have done a lot better.

What the hell more do you want from the man?

I think he's so perfect, people think he's fake, or partially fake. Like the hair - he has naturally perfect hair - it is not his fault.

I think it is an interesting take on this group that although we obviously come from very different backgrounds and very diverse(argh pc buzz word) walks of life, we all seem to have constant threads running through our lives.

Someone says "grok", most of us know what it means, and where it came from.

We talk about "the spice", everyone here knows what you mean and why.

Mention and obscure Star Trek (or Star Wars) reference and we all chuckle.

It is so nice to have somewhere to go where you are understood. Thank you Charles.

ring

ring

solicitor: Is this the lady of the house?

solicitor: No?
me: No.

solicitor: Would you be interested in...?
me: I'm not the lady of the house.

solicitor: I don't know what I should do...

hang up

Regardless - if any Tolkein lovers are out there I strongly advise reading this book - it's the whole history of Mddle Earth and the 1st age - which leads you right into the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.

I'm not exactly sure what is being alleged here, but I've done extensive work with wireless microphones and I can say with 100% certainty that there is no way the disembodied voice was coming from a whispered prompt in Mitt's ear. If there was a bud in Mitt's ear (didn't see it), that voice would have been picked up more than once during the debate. Furthermore, if the voice was coming from anywhere near Mitt, the voice would sound like it was being heard through a telephone - it wouldn't have sounded like someone whispering directly into microphone.

I also doubt the voice was Brian Williams. I would think he would have more sense than to whisper to Russert or anyone else while the question was being asked. So who could it be? I would say it was a producer in the control room. After all, there are two GOP candidates who needed to be bulldozed last night and there were at least 4 successful attempts to cut to Giuliani or leave the camera on him when he made a face. It would make sense that they were working overtime on destroying Mitt as well.

If that voice was a producer, it is possible that there were similar prompts being given to Russert throughout the debate, but the open mic problem was corrected and we never heard the rest of it.

Romney is growing on me too. I think he will surprise you how he will be able to take on Hillary and the Washington insider legislative establishment...which Hillary and Obama (and McCain) are all part of, and Mitt isn't.

You are really knocking it outta the park on this issue. As I stated before I like Mitt a lot! I can vote for Guliani and will hold my nose and pull the lever for Mccain if I have to but I will campaign and donate time and money for Romney if he is the candidate.

I told my wife we should name our child EXIT. I reasoned that way, if he grew up to be an entertainer, his/ her name would already be in every THEATRE in the country

Maybe it was an angel? Perhaps Moroni...
[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

We were blessed to hear his voice! And we didn't even have magic hearing aides?

Romney scares me. He is certainly a liar, without any moral compass except which way to the next election victory. God, why can't smart people who believe in something and stand for something and don't change stories to suit their audience actually run for President?

Just FYI -- John Street is no longer the mayor of Philadelphia, thank you.

The new one, Michael Nutter, is an old Street nemesis and is looking like a big improvement.

Lynn, might you be someone who has filled in on occasion, at a Philly talk station?

Dude! You named your cat BOOGER?

Booger the Cat. (Some of them insist on the honorific.) It fits. She's tempermental, crabby, and cranky. Also my best ol' buddy.

JWM

I've got a pair.

Big ol' (15lbs.) dumb and happy Orange and White Tabby, Thomas Ginger Cat, and little tiny (6lbs.) tortoise shell Miss Lena. Guess who rules the roost. At least until she annoys him just a little too much. I think Lena is part ferret, she is always opening drawers and cabinets to climb inside.

I mentioned that prompt on last nights debate thread. I assumed it was McCain whispering to Romney...He was standing next to him, had a microphone...If not him, then, who?

Only 1:11 of that video played. I wonder what was in the other 6:45. Did the whole thing play for you?

I'm currently watching my Mom's pugs, Chesai and Skoshi, little bit and tiny bit in Japanese. I told her she should have named them Mekju and Soju, Korean for beer and whiskey. though now I call them baka 1 and Baka 2. Baka is Japanese for fool, LOL.

I also had a friend in Turkey who named their cat Ekmek, Turkish for bread. you should have seen the looks she got when the cat got outside.

Em. I think what they are afraid of is a Hillary victory.

Hmmm? Why?

I think the MSM would be happy with either Obama or Hillary as President. Sure, they'd prefer Obama, but if it came down to Hillary vs. any Republican -- they'd shill for Hillary straight down the line.

The knives are already out for Hillary. You can read it in the MSM.

The Clintons: entertaining for 8 years. Tawdry for 16.

544 Last Man  Sat, Jan 26, 2008 12:23:44am

Shenanigans every non-Fox Republican debate; Nurse Ratched, gay general, moonbat "republicans" waving bibles etc.

Speculation, Romney avoids Russert gotcha lipreading audience member. MSNBC lefties clued in, sabotage Romney.

545 stuck-in-ca  Sat, Jan 26, 2008 2:57:39am

That whisper was awfully LOUD. Must have come from someone sitting near a microphone. Like Russert or Williams...or another candidate.

Now that my candidates have dropped out of the race (Tancredo & Hunter). I like Romney or Giuliani. I can live with either of them, though neither is my ideal on border issues, sadly.

re: #39 zombie

If it had been Ron Paul, the explanation would be easy, the ear piece echoed in his empty skull.

Oops, That would be his supporters who get the echo effect.

547 thepresenceusmc  Sat, Jan 26, 2008 9:44:42am

Pretty loud for a "whisper." Besides, it was a prompt, and Romney obviously benefited instantaneously from it. It may not be a headset, but it was a prompt.

Did he cheat? Sure seems that way.

548 infdl  Sat, Jan 26, 2008 11:14:33am

No way it was an in-ear prompt. Impossible. Too much depth, clarity and sibilance. It seemed like it went through the P.A. and Romney was answering the question from Russert and the satanic "Raise Taxes" whispering at the same time. So are you implying that Mitt has a prompter hooked up to the P.A.? If so, then he really is a mongoloid, though I highly doubt it.

No, sorry. Definitely not. Listen, yes. Talk, no. I'm much happier behind a keyboard than I am behind a microphone.
