-RetweetDemocrat Eliot Spitzer Prostitution Thread 3

Mon, Mar 10, 2008 at 7:28:02 pm PDT

Well, there are apparently still words to be said about Eliot Spitzer and his dalliance(s), so here’s another thread. If you’re curious about the women Spitzer callously used while pretending to be an upstanding family man opposed to the activity in which he was participating, Nick Denton’s pseudo-blog Wonkette has some pictures: Eliot Spitzer’s Whores: A Pictorial Tour of The Emperor’s Club Ladies.

I think I mentioned that Spitzer is a Democrat, didn’t I? And a Daily Kos diarist? Just checking.

This is the gift that keeps on giving. Good news for bloggers though; he'll stick around a wee bit longer instead of resigning in disgrace post haste.

New Yorkers are getting screwed again, because the budget process is getting tossed to the side because Spitzer has an oversized ego that refuses to accept he screwed up and must resign.

I actually think it would be best if Spitzer DID NOT resign. As long as he is on the front page, the Democrat primary race will never make page one. Reduced media attention for the Democrat candidates is good for Republicans.

What bothers me is not the sex angle -- it's all the other factors...If Spitzer had simply had an "affair" it would have been (as he stated) a "private matter." And nobody's business. It's the money laundering, and the association with (possibly) organized crime. You can't (or at least shouldn't) do this if you're in public office! It's beyond the pale. (Also, if "Client 9" is Spitzer, then in the FBI complaint, they've got "Client 9" acknowledging that the money would be forwarded to one of the front companies..."yup, same as usual" suggesting that it wasn't the first time Spitzer deposited money into the bogus "businesses" -- ie, laundering the money. No one can believe that a former Attorney General would not know about money laundering and bogus "companies." Again, it's criminal...)

I think Lawhawk is right about this being the gift that keeps on giving, though. Especially when you consider how close Spitzy and the Clintons are were.

Y'know, given their long and enduring former friendship (what, do you think either Clinton would be caught in the same room with Mr. Radioactive ever again?), it wouldn't greatly surprise me to find that Spitzy had hosted Billy the C on at least one of those junkets. At NY taxpayer expense, yet.

Client 9 - believed to be Spitzer - paid $4,300 for a woman named "Kristen" to come from New York to D.C. A portion of that money, however, likely went to credit for future appointments.

"Kristen" was described as "an American, petite, very pretty brunette, 5 feet 5 inches, and 105 pounds." Client 9 had to be "reminded" what she looked like, suggesting that this was not the first time the two had done business.

"an American"?

What does 'an American' look like?
Is 'an American' code for Caucasian?
Should the EEOC be called in on this one?
Are we dealing with race based stereotypes here?
Does Spitzer discriminate against ethnic prostitutes?
Maybe Spitzer should be investigated for hate crimes?

I think we deserve answers to these questions!

One, with prosecutors, he's trying to see if he goes, will he not be charged, and that's why he's now hired an attorney apparently with Paul-Weiss, the major firm here in New York. The other thing we're hearing is that, this afternoon...that he was making calls to various key Democrats across the state to see if he could survive this. Some aides maybe were talking about possibly conducting some polls. Too soon to know if he will stick this out."

Interesting challenge.

If its a moonless or near moonless night, try an ISO of about 200, and leave it open for about 20-30 seconds, manually, on 'B'. Aperture as large as you can go. Hopefully, that will be long enough to get the arc.

If not, adjust accordingly, using your aperture, to get the time you need.

Lots of variables can ruin it tho, and you only get one shot, so please don't blame me if it doesn't work.

If you have a real light meter handy, use it beforehand, pointing it at a candle outdoors with a background similar to what you think your 2AM night sky will look like. Should give you a good idea of what your exposure should be - and a better chance at a good shot.

Exactly. If he'd had "an affair" -- nobody would/should care. It's all the associated factors which elevate his "dalliance" into a public matter -- and that includes not just spending a night with a hooker -- but his making payments to "front" companies (that's money laundering); the fact that it was an international prostitution ring (typically that suggests organized crime); the fact that this was not just "once" -- from the complaint it sounds as if this was on-going -- he was running up a tab...etc.

The O'Reilly has spoken. There shall be no celebrations!

162 BeyondBrooklyn  Mon, Mar 10, 2008 8:04:04pm

WHY IT IS ABOUT THE SEX

Gov. Spitzer entered voluntarily into one of the most intimate relationships that can exist between two people. It relies on trust and fidelity. He did not have to get married. Yes, lust may be a human experience none of us are above, but the terms of the "deal" he entered into with his wife required that he control it. In this context, the fear of prosecution should have also motivated him to figure out a way to keep his need to "be human" in check.

As an elected official, he faces countless opportunities to give in to other "human" urges (greed, for example) at the expense of those who have elected him. If neither his relationship with his wife nor his fear of prosecution caused him to refrain from hiring a prostitute, then we cannot count on his sense of duty, his position and its relationship to his constituents, or his fear of prosecution for other crimes to give him reasons to resist "human" urges as they arise in the context of his office.

The sex indicates a compromised character.

Its a manual camera, I'll be using a 18-55mm lens, my lowest ISO is 100. The launches usually take about 20 seconds or so to go from the roof line until it disappears behind some trees. This is going to be an open shutter the whole time, I want to get that nice long streak across a cloudless sky.

The whole thing is suspicious.. The ferocity in which they're going after him is sooo Republican . Reminds me in a way of the Sigelman story in Alabama. The Justice Dept has nothing more important to do than wiretapping for prostitution? This gives a perfect reason why Bush's wiretapping requests should be refused. What a waste . Where was the wiretapping when Jeff Gannon/Guckert , Karl Rove and "Lips" Bush were having their fun in the Whitehouse after all those hot Press Conferences ? Spitzer should not resign and weather it out. Vitter and Craig are still around.

It is the wiretapping.

Set up a candle or flashlight outdoors where the light will be similar to the night sky (you can use your camera's built in meter to confirm the same light intensity, by comparing the sky to the spot where you set up (before turning on the light or lighting the candle).

Then, try different settings with your shutter open for 20 seconds, as you pan the camera with the light in the fov.

Good luck.

There's always next time if it doesn;t work out.

I just thought of something else.

You should quickly find out what iso and aperture work best.

When I take star shots, I use 1600 -- for full moon shots 400 or 800

Sada Cumber, now a U.S. citizen, was born in Pakistan. His job is to "promote mutual understanding and dialogue between the United States and Muslim communities around the world." One of his first official duties will be to attend the 11th Annual OIC Conference in Dakar, Senegal, on March 13-14.

President Bush announced Cumber's appointment on February 28. At the time, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters that the OIC is an "important organization" with an "instructive role to play in the world."

Perino said that by naming Cumber as special envoy, President Bush was "signaling our desire to have a greater dialogue with the organization as well as Muslims around the world."

Gotta luv this huffpo comment ...

Vitter and Craig are still around

It is the wiretapping.

And there was no "ferocity" around Republican sex scandals.

Yup.

Heh. That didn't take long. Its Bush's fault!

The lunar eclipse came about a few weeks back -- and I made a huge mistake in using my digital camera to get shots...(they all turned out badly). The reason? It was due to the method I chose for metering -- don't use -- repeat don't use standard metering (which takes an "average" light reading of the scene -- if you do this, the moon will be totally bright, no shadows -- just overexposed; and everything else underexposed -- sky gray, not black, etc). use, instead Spot metering -- focus the meter reading at the bright object (moon, bright object, space shuttle) then, you'll get better results...moon will have the shadows there on the surface, surrounding sky will be black, etc.

re: #178 GoJeepGo

Thanks for the tips... here are some more details:

Its a manual camera, I'll be using a 18-55mm lens, my lowest ISO is 100. The launches usually take about 20 seconds or so to go from the roof line until it disappears behind some trees. This is going to be an open shutter the whole time, I want to get that nice long streak across a cloudless sky.

I also live in the burbs, so there's the potential for light contamination at the horizon.

If you have a 'bulb' setting, your aperture should be f16 at iso 100. Otherwise, see if you can set the shutter for 30 seconds or slower. Since you probly have trees obstructing the horizon, you wont need to start the exposure until you see the glow on the horizon.

good luck. I'll be rooting for you!

Has this cretin taken any notice of how devestated his wife looks in the pictures of his "apology" today? How can he look at that and not resign?

Twit.

I'm no expert on body language, but I watched her during the speech, and she tried to be neutral, but she looked devastated. I thought she might even cry, but she kept that on the inside.

Personally, I would have kicked the man in the balls and walked out, but then I'm not a political wife.

They have yet to file a single charge. I'm sure the argument will be that giving a hooker train money is not the same as kidnapping women and sending them to brothels in Saudi

The Mann act is very specific in its regulations of interstate prostitution. Spritzer is sunk and going down fast. Unless he can plea bargain down to a lesser charge (and from what I have read the evidence is pretty damning). Interesting - that comment #302 literally posted itself. Lemme try again:

Geez, I just can't believe this - THREE THREADS ON THIS ISSUE?
a) Spitzer is a bum for doing this while he had a wife and 3 children.
b) Spitzer is a hypocritical politician (sorry for the redunancy there folks)
c) Spitzer ought to resign - because he broke both New York State Law and Federal Law (if she was coming in to "see him" from Washington, D.C. that was a violation of the Mann Act). Proving he is not fit to be the chief executive - ya know the guy responsible for enforcing the laws of the State of New York which the New York State Attorney General doesn't. And, oh yeah, Spitzer was the New York State Attorney General before he was elected Govenor.
d) Spitzer is a Democrat and one of Hillary's Superdelegates.
e) I'm sorry for Mrs. Spitzer and his kids.
That's about it folks.
Those are the only really relevant issues here - if he won't resign, then he ought to be arrested and prosecuted - and if it turns out that he wasn't using his own money, that should be investigated and prosecuted for doing same if he did.

o Just a few weeks ago Mr. Eliot Spitzer went to Washington, checked into the Mayflower(big mistake -- every phone line is bugged), called a call girl and then, in an open hearing before the Senate Banking Committee, threatened to decertify the monolines in New York State, who are the guarantors for $2.0tn+ of mortgage paper

o Because of the way the ratings sytem works, decertification would have had a financial domino effect, where mortgages which had just lost their guarantees, no matter how virtual, would have had to be downrated and declared a loss/sold, depending on the type of entity holding them: fund, bank, mutual fund.

o It is important to understand that as a matter of course, major political figures names are generally not released to the public by federal authorities in sensitive investigations of interstate sexual commerce

o BUT, somehow, some way, somewhere, Mr. Spitzer's shennanigans are now front page news and he will have to resign...

Yeah Kos are idiots... and I know everything revolves around Republican Democrat bs... but since I know Spitzer a little bit as well as some of the players in Albany... I see this as a guy and a person -

1) I really don't care that he did it personally... I know he's done and don't necessarily even like him but - as a libertarian let me play the other side -
Was a he a regular user or a guy going through a mid-life crisis.. a geek who struggled with chicks most of his life and is approaching 50?

2) He is done and he'll have to retire... but I have a problem with the fact that you can't move more than 5 grand in cash around without the FBI getting a Big Brother flag from your bank and snooping into your business...

3) Spitzer bragged a few years back that if anyone uses email to commit a crime that they'd get them... meanwhile he communicated via email and text...

4) Women are always a guy's weakness... let's face a beautiful woman with confidence can ruin just about ANY guy if she puts her mind to it...

5) McGreevy's wife was on Larry King tonight... can I just say that she is beautiful... (and single I hear?)

I am not talking about morals right now but the law and those that have chosen the field to work in, been elected to the field, or in anyway holding a position to make or enforce the laws and then to break them. It is especially bad to me when they break these laws they swear to uphold while the citizens are paying them to do so. So it seems we are paying them to break the law instead of upholding it.
They should be held to a higher level than those not involved in the position of a law officer or any position of enforcing the laws.

I think I'm most upset that "the public" isn't more outraged at the lack of respect for the marriage vow. I don't particularly care what single, over 18 yo'ds do --as long as children and animals aren't involved.

I'd think that when someone takes a vow, especially someone we elect to office, and they don't stick to it --we should be outraged as a society.

All a person has is their word, yet I hear/read, it's a "private matter." At first, I thought, "yeah, ok", but the more I read/think the less I think so. It is a big deal.

In Canada there is a provision that if a person "in authority" abuses his office and is convicted of a crime (this would include teachers, religious authorities, police, etc, who in a position of power, nonetheless violate the law), the judge has the ability to add on extra years (during the sentencing phase -- so if an ordinary "Joe" would get 2 years, a police officer convicted of the same offense could get 5; etc. because of the "abuse of office" or "betrayal of trust," etc.)

Okay, maybe it's because I'm a woman and catty or something, but although those are beautiful women, I've certainly seen their like before. There's nothing extraordinary about them but the price.

I know how to have sex, and I can bake, fish, and shoot a gun. I'd be a lot more fun for an hour. However, I'm not a whore. Maybe it's a failure of imagination, but I can't think of anything that's worth $5500 an hour.

For those of you keeping score at home, it's now 5 days until I buy my AR-15.

I lost it somewhere in there. You don't have a small brain.

I"m rambling, maybe another lizard can put succinctly write what I am too tired to write.

If he - or any other public official - does not honor their oath oof loyalty to their spouse, and therefore by extension to their children, how much credibility can we give to their oath of office to us?

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton carefully sidestepped questions Monday about the sex scandal engulfing Eliot Spitzer, her home state governor and political ally.

"I don't have any comment on that.."

Of course she has no comment about Spitzer behaving like Willy's willy.

And besides, Spitzer is a superdelegate from her state. Superdelegates can do no wrong - unless they decide to go with Obama.

That lovely fellow Simba, serving as my avatar knows how to do both. About May, he will shrink to half his winter size from lost hair. His house mate Oddessy (cause she is the oddest looking cat you will ever see, combination Siamese and Grey tabby), she loses it by the hand full, but you can never see where it came from. The third cat, KitKit is a short haired black and white known at the vets office as "kitty kitty asshole". Funny thing is, they hate each other. It can be really annoying, kind of like kids, they fight all the time.

realwest,

FWIW, I agree with you about Mrs. S. (Wouldn't she have married him when he was just a young attorney?) I never liked Eliot Spitzer. The guy gave me the creeps - but you know all the progressives loved the fact that he was going after Wall Street and the insurance companies. I don't object to that if there is a legal reason for it (like Boesky), but Spitzer was inventing law out of thin air.

I think NY is one of the worst run states in the country. Dysfunctional and expensive to boot!

Now we really know why the dems are against wire tapping don't we? Doesn't have a thing to do with keeping me safe, thats for darn sure.

I watched the crew being helped in until they cut the feed.

Also, I was reading a launch-related story a few minutes ago that contained the following paragraph:

Looking relaxed, Endeavour's crew headed for the launch pad just before 11 p.m. EDT Monday in a shiny, oval-shaped bus of the type that has transported astronauts since the shuttle program began 27 years ago. A helicopter with sharpshooters -- a precaution introduced after the September 11 attacks -- hovered overhead.

That is something I did not know.

re: #149 J.S.

What an idiot. I just don't understand why a governor of a state like New York would risk his career and his family for a silly f**k. Someone will have to explain this to me. And probably out of a job. Even Bill can't protect him from the Mann act, my guess is he will plea bargain down to something innocuous like obstructing an officer...

Apologies if this turns out to have been addressed already, but doesn't the Mann Act pertain to the transport of underage females for immoral purposes? In which case, if the hooker was a legal adult, it wouldn't apply.

But no question the guy was flirting with organized crime, which certainly puts him in a major conflict of interest situation.

Mann Act?

A marine biologist developed a race of genetically engineered dolphins that could live forever if they were fed a steady diet of seagulls. One day, his supply of the birds ran out so he had to go out and trap some more. On the way back, he spied two lions asleep on the road. Afraid to wake them, he gingerly stepped over them. Immediately, he was arrested and charged with transporting gulls across staid lions for immortal porpoises.

US Rep King has been spot on so many times. He has improved with age, and now I would love to see him run for an even higher office.

Got to go to sleep! I hope to wake up in the AM with my clock radio saying Spitzer is tiast, but something in me wants him to throw a tantrum that will hurt the Demonrats big-time, and thus Shrillary will be burned toast...and the gormless Hussein will be at a loss for words, left sputtering his light as a cloud words to himself.

Yeah, the issue is really the money. Honestly, if a married man feels the need to get a little piece on the side, he's far better off going to a pro. No emotional attachment, and discretion is the norm.

What I am most disappointed with, however, is the fact that NASA (seemingly) has put little to no effort into developing a new space frame, while the current one is showing it's age miserably.

re: #564 Roentgen

Revelations Began in Routine Tax Inquiry

The rendezvous that established Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s involvement with high-priced prostitutes occurred last month in one of Washington’s grandest hotels, but the criminal investigation that discovered the tryst began last year in a nondescript office building opposite a Dunkin’ Donuts on Long Island, according to law enforcement officials.

There, in the Hauppauge offices of the Internal Revenue Service, investigators conducting a routine examination of suspicious financial transactions reported to them by banks found several unusual movements of cash involving the governor of New York, several officials said.

The investigators working out of the three-story office building, which faces Veterans Highway, typically review such reports, the officials said. But this was not typical: transactions by a governor who appeared to be trying to conceal the source, destination or purpose of the movement of thousands of dollars in cash, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The money ended up in the bank accounts of what appeared to be shell companies, corporations that essentially had no real business.

The transactions, officials said, suggested possible financial crimes — maybe bribery, political corruption, or something inappropriate involving campaign finance. Prostitution, they said, was the furthest thing from the minds of the investigators.

Soon, the I.R.S. agents, from the agency’s Criminal Investigation Division, were working with F.B.I. agents and federal prosecutors from Manhattan who specialize in political corruption.
The inquiry, like many such investigations, was a delicate one. Because the focus was a high-ranking government official, prosecutors were required to seek the approval of the United States attorney general to proceed. Once they secured that permission, the investigation moved forward.
At the outset, one official said, it seemed like a bread-and-butter inquiry into political corruption, the kind of case the F.B.I. squad, known internally by the designation C14, frequently pursues.

But before long, the investigators learned that the money was being moved to pay for sex and that the transactions were being manipulated to conceal Mr. Spitzer’s connection to payments for meetings with prostitutes, the official said.

Then, with the assistance of a confidential informant, a young woman who had worked previously as a prostitute for the Emperor’s Club V.I.P., the escort service that Mr. Spitzer was believed to be using, the investigators were able to get a judge to approve wiretaps on the cellphones of some of those suspected of involvement in the escort service.

The wiretaps, along with the records of bank accounts held in the names of the shell companies, revealed a world of prostitutes catering to wealthy men. At the center was the Emperor’s Club, which arranged “dates” with more than 50 beautiful young women in New York, Paris, London, Miami and Washington.

But its finances moved through the shell companies — the QAT Consulting Group, QAT International and Protech Consulting — which held bank accounts into which clients wired their payments, according to court papers in the case.

One of the booking agents, a woman named Temeka Rachelle Lewis, 32, told a client that wiring his payments to QAT Consulting was safe because it would show up “like as a business transaction,” according to an affidavit filed in federal court the case.

But the transactions proved to be anything but safe for Mr. Spitzer, who, aides said on Monday, was weighing possible resignation.

Last week, Ms. Lewis was one of four people charged by federal prosecutors in Manhattan with operating the prostitution ring.[...]

When I did marine geodesic survey work back in the 70s we carried a tank of LOX on the aft deck - about 12' X 20' - we called it the O Bomb - it fueled the "guns" that made the booms that gave us our reflected data from beneath the ocean floor. Re-fueling it in port we all took a day off.

There is sssooo much more here than that -
he prosecuted people/members of a prostitution
ring(s) as AG in the past ! HOW the hell do you look
at yourself in the mirror ? And no, not the one hung
over the bed - the one he must use to shave with
every morning !There are so many angles to this
story - truth stranger than fiction indeed. What if it
comes out that some of the people that operate this
current "ring" were involved in the "rings" he brought
down in the past ? If so, you can almost GUAREN-DAMN-TEE there is some video tape lying around somewhere that's going to make some- one a damn fortune ! At the very least, taped phone conversations ! this guy made so many
enemies in the past with his zealous self righteous attitude/stance/prosecutions - if the only profit this group of ho's made from the get togethers is $5,500.00 an hour than they are as much a discredit to the criminal world as he is to the Governors Office.

Vito: "You're telling me you didn't record any of this
in digital ?"
Frankie "Uh, sh*t, no boss - I didn't think of it at the time..."
Vito: "Well at least you taped some of the phone
calls - at least ONE - right Frankie ?"
Frankie: " ummm, no - didn't think of dat either"
Vito: "Frankie, you are F*CKIN kiddin' me here, right pal ?"
Frankie: "Uh, gee boss, your good wid dose things -
I'm not so good..."
Vito:"You're still staying on the 24th floor at the
Marriott right Frankie?"
Frankie: "yeah boss, why ..."
CLICK...

This guys put his neck in every conceivable noose
there is ! So many angles ! Wait until the definition
of the "unsafe sex practice" comes out - and the day
before Valentines Day no less...and on and on and on...Talk about self destructing...3 daughters... the
angles just keep coming ! This is much more than married man getting busted with a hooker or politician getting busted...etc.
This guy has something seriously wrong with him psychologically that goes way beyond the obvious here. I've tried to keep from chuckling all afternoon just thinking of his wife and kids BUT some of the lines here and on the " Pictorial Tour of The Emperor's Club Ladies" link are just freakin' funny as hell ! I finally put Saran Wrap over my monitor screen - NO, NOT after the "Pictorial"
web site visit wise a** (you know you thought it and you know who you are). I feel so guilty !

Now the wife has to go through the humiliation of being tested for AIDS and STD's...What did you give your wife for Valentines Day ?
Did he spend AT LEAST $5,500.00 on the wife on the 14th ?
"Honey, its not like I went for the ten grand one or anything ..." I mean, what do you say ? For most of us we wouldn't be in the position to say anything because our wives wouldn't be standing there by our side. Personally, I'd have to:
A. never leave my house again or
B. kill myself (not that I'm encouraging that sort of behavior !). How do you even face the door man ? Where do these guys get their nads ? Is there a
difference between this an a prosecutor or DEA agent taking down a crack house, putting the bad guys behind bars and then showing up at the back door of another one 'cross town ? Same thing, right ? Oh yeah, its onl sex right ? Then why did you prosecute them in the first palce ? Thats where those of you saying this shouldn't be a prosecutable offense are missing the boat...

maybe the subconscious guilt thing driving him to do the very thing (ruin his life) that hes done to others ?
Not that he did anything wrong by prosecuting criminals
but maybe his psyche couldn't handle it ? Like he Prinze guy that shot himself because he couldn't handle being wealthy kinda thing ? Society may not be able to tolerate or listen to every tale of woe (eg - rough childhood etc) because no one would ever be 'guilty' but
nevertheless, I'm all of a sudden interested in this guys
brain or how it works. This kind of stuff fascinates the hell out of me...Good Night All ! And if you're the praying sort, say a prayer for his wife and kids (I'm going to). If you're REALLY the praying sort, include him too (I'm still "out" on that one).

Iran continues to train killers for missions in Iraq wage War against US

...several of which were detained this past fall in the months of October, November, and December, having recently returned from Iran, having been trained inside of Iran by elements inside that country.

Those detainees, Iraqis, all speak the same story. They all tell exactly the same involvement of handlers here inside of Iraq that move them into Iran specifically for training, how they were trained inside of Iran by Lebanese Hezbollah and other trainers, the training that specific they received in paramilitary activities, and that they were sent back here purposely, purposefully to support anti-coalition, anti-security, and obviously anti-peace and stability of Iraq.

US watching (Paki) political situation closely - praying, making daily sacrifices and holding breath.

“Obviously we've had good relations with Pakistan in the past several years, we fully expect that to continue but we are not going to comment on what they should or should not do as they work through their process,”

We've been real damned lucky ** knocks on wood ** terrorist attacks have remained relatively low and even though the new government is going to be very anti-American, the military is remaining strongly pro-US(and pretty much telling the Pol's to get down to the business of government business) - much to the obvious chagrin of the pol's.

Probably wasn't that blatant (maybe), but more subtle like...
Penitent: "Father, forgive me"
Priest: "Of course, my child... but have you made your donation to the [whatever] League yet?"
Penitent: "Uh, not yet, but... uh..."
etc.

One does not buy oneself out of trouble - that's never been Catholic teaching. If you have any interest in accuracy, go to a solid Catholic apologetics site and learn what an indulgence is.

704 frodolives  Tue, Mar 11, 2008 1:46:01am

Of course, that would mean having a proper understanding of Catholicism. Catholic teaching does not reduce to a sound bite which is a common basis for so many irresponsible statements.

705 aboo-Hoo-Hoo  Tue, Mar 11, 2008 1:53:37am

I wonder with whom Mr. Graham T. Allison might be going to work...Hillary? You know this really is not good:

Last month he(Allison) traveled to Iran and met some of Iranian political intellectuals. This is an excerpt of his interview on NIE report and US future policy towards Iran, which took place in Iranian Diplomacy’s office in Tehran.

Allison Speaks on George Bush with Iranian Diplomacy

...and we wonder why some(not to mention any names or Parties) are violently opposed to incoming calls from various questionable sources being monitored.

I'm going to be bidding on some cellos later today. I don't know if I'll win any of them, the dollar is very weak now so I don't have a lot of buying power.

Sure, why not? I read The Little Book of Atheist Spiritualism on the way over. Not really a great book but had some the interesting concepts. Atheisism doesn't necessarily negate spirituality.

re: #717 BlueCanuck

Spiritualist atheism? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Some (few) intelligent people today don't think so, reasoning that:
1/I don't want to be part of the ecclesiastical systems around me in this day; but

2/ I want to develop my spirit (ME, my essence) even though I do not choose to recognize That Which Created Me/Us...

/so they turn to Spiritual Atheism, or Atheist Spiritualism. Make sense, Blue?

As if Eliot's behaviour weren't bad enough, he just had to drag his wife into this too, making her stand next to him at this press conference.

He should have stood there on his own and faced the music.

I hate when these men drag out their poor medicated wives. But that's what she gets for chasing and marrying a wealthy, powerful man. Screw her.

I don't know if she's medicated, but her husbands tomcatting isn't a reflection on her. Until we hear other wise I am considering her an innoccent in this situation.

Arrogance is a common problem in the political class - and "progressives" in general but to see this man get bit squarely on the a@@ by his own actions is well... justice !
My prayers go out to is daughters and wife . Mr Spitzer's father should have taken him to the woodshed a time or two as a boy . No means NO and actions have consequences... so don't get your brain caught in your zipper Gov.!

What I am most disappointed with, however, is the fact that NASA (seemingly) has put little to no effort into developing a new space frame, while the current one is showing it's age miserably.

Crew Exploration Vehicle

Entirely new ground to orbit systems are just going slowly, need working scramjets and they just haven't been as easy as envisioned forty years ago. Building a tower ten miles tall, or a hundred, might be a better answer!

Spitzer was called "Elliot Ness", in regards to his crime fighting spirit as the AG and Guv of New York. To quote another observer, maybe we amend that to: "Elliot P Ness"

Easy does it there, bub.

The wife is from North Carolina and she was an honors student at an all-girls Baptist college. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and after earning her JD, pusued a highly successful legal career at a little place called Skadden Arps (you ever hear of them?). She quit her lucrative career to raise her 3 daughters.

All seems pretty admirable to me.

I don't think she "chased" a wealthy powerful man. She had plenty going for her.

I don't know---I'd think spirituality would be the one thing atheism would negate. And, quite frankly, I think it's dangerous to start delving into "spirits" and "spirituality" without some sort of guidelines, or faith-backing; as Professor Ransom said in the great C.S. Lewis book, "Perelandra", "There are spirits and spirits!" (just being a "spirit" doesn't mean that a particular creature is good, or trustworthy; nothing especially good just about being a spirit.)

But I'll be praying for Killgore's stepdad, and even that he gets his cello!
