-RetweetMSM Suddenly Notice Obama's Pastor's Hate Speech

Thu, Mar 13, 2008 at 10:11:51 am PDT

Well, they couldn’t ignore him forever, could they?

The man Barack Obama calls his spiritual adviser, who is credited for giving him the title of his book, The Audacity of Hope, and who married Obama and his wife and baptized their two daughters, is an America-hating racist who uses exactly the same type of hate speech as disgraced professor Ward Churchill: Obama’s Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11.

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright’s sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon. “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda’s attacks because of its own terrorism.

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye,” Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost,” he told his congregation.

The media hounded John McCain until he finally denounced Pastor John Hagee, as he should have.

But Barack Obama is much closer to this lunatic Rev. Wright than McCain ever was to Hagee. How long until he cuts his ties with this over-the-top hater?

Just a shame that he's been going to the "HATE, RACIST, BIGOTED, ANTI-AMERICAN church for over 20 years. Makes one wonder if the photo of him without his hand over his heart pledging allegiance to the US isn't symbolic of a deeper seeded resentment of our country. (obviously not his)

Saw a video clip of Obama's pastor's sermon on tv last night, and it had some sexual references about Bill Clinton doing Lewinsky that made my jaw dropped. I've never heard or seen any "man of God" talk so dirty before and but his audience just thundered in applause. Unbelievable.

25 BLBfootballs  Thu, Mar 13, 2008 10:20:45am

Wow--this stuff is really sick. It is very disturbing to have a mainstream presidential candidate so enthralled by a man of such extremism.

So how is Obama's campaign going to connect this to Hillary's campaign and get another recognizable staffer fired/resigned?

27 calcajun  Thu, Mar 13, 2008 10:21:19am

Look, this is real simple. BHO and Mrs. BHO were married by this guy. They have been members of the church for 20 years. I am an ex-Catholic (contrary to what my nephew, the priest, thinks). I left because I did not agree with the views of the church. I have been in a church for 20 + years, and if I did not agree with the pastor on his fundamental viewpoints, I WOULD LEAVE THAT CHURCH.

In short, Mr. and Mrs. BHO tacitly agree with Pastor Wright's views and by continuing to attend --and tithe-- they are supporting him and his ability to spread those views. If they did not, they should leave that church and find one that preaches hope to all Americans - not just some.

Charles, just curious why McCain should denounce Pastor Hagee? Pastor Hagee is one of the strongest supporter for the nation of Israel among the Evangelicals.

I think the media seem to have amplified the "anti" Catholic position that Hagee may hold.

The other side of the coin is this, when Pope Benedict was recently elected to the position, he made comments regarding non Catholics that could be even worse than what Pastor Hagee may or have implied about the Catholic church. Yet the media does not feel a need to raise alarm regarding these comments or even tel the Catholic followers to repudiate the Pope's comment regarding the Protestants.

There are plenty of real, right-out-of-the-Bible verses that tell mankind that it doesn't matter which nation you're born in.
That you must seek our Creator out yourself.
Like Isaiah 40:15 or Matthew 28:18-20 or Galatians 3:28,29 or Colossians 3:10,11.
But no!
He has to put down one out of all fallen nations (his native nation) to make himself and his congregation feel better.
Sad, really sad.
I wonder how well he really knows the policies of South Africa or of those people in Gaza and West Bank?

Just think, if we had invaded the Japanese home islands instead of nuking them, we could have lost a million of our troops, killed a million or more of theirs, had a few million of their citizens die in the crossfire and others succumb to starvation and exposure, and prolonged the war a year or more (during which Japanese troops on the mainland would likely have continued their depredations against other Asians). If only we'd been more compassionate.

And what does a war against Japan, Germany, and Italy over 50 years ago have to do with an Islamic terrorist attack on New York anyway? The Islamic world was relatively untouched by WW2.

It seems this ''preacher'' was his ticket to ''helping the masses'' through community services.

As a side note, I once tried to get rid of drug dealers who were renting an apt. on my block.
Inadvertently I discovered some of our older buildings qualified for hundreds of thousands of dollars gov't. money for removing old lead-based paint.
I coordinated getting the money to the various landlords as leverage to get rid of the dealer (and his gunmen). But I didn't go off the deep end and become a funnel for all gov't. money our area could have gotten.

Obama is from Chicago area...

If you lived in Chicago, you would know that the city is EXTREMELY racist...

I lived in the suburbs of Chicago. You could see the division of race by the neighborhoods you live in. It was OK to have a few of other races in your midst...but if you have a larger majority, then there is a certain racial flight from that neighborhood...

72 calcajun  Thu, Mar 13, 2008 10:34:38am

Another point to consider here, and it is a scary one at that. It goes without saying that whites do not have a monopoly on bigotry - as evidenced by Pastor Wright's sermons. I'm pretty sure I am going to get blasted for this, but I have seen it happen more than once in some political arenas when the previously disaffected portion of the electorate achieves power, they do not try to "build bridges" but engage in the "politics of payback". That is exactly what might happen with President Obama as he tries to get back at the "tyranny of the majority".

I am not fear mongering - just pointing out what has happened through history.

There's tons of this stuff. He's a hate preacher.

What if you knew someone & discovered that he attended a White Supremest Church & that he admired the pastor who is a wild eyed racist?
What if you also discovered that he befriended someone who used to bomb Planned Parenthood Centers & other buildings & claimed that he did not do enough of it?
How about if your friends wife liked to publicly proclaim her distaste for America for not being more Caucasian friendly?
How about if the same guy fraternized with a Nazi televangelist ?
You would probably think that you could judge him by the company he keeps.
Why not Barack? His minister is a hateful anti American racist.
He befriended William Ayers, who bombed government buildings when he was a member of the Weather Underground.

From Obama's website:

BARACK OBAMA and HIS CHURCH

Trinity United Church of Christ is the largest congregation in the United Church of Christ. It is part of a liberal denomination that was the first to ordain an African American, a woman, and a gay man. Congregants have described it in the New York Times as a "warm and accepting community," and while it is a predominantly African American congregation, people of all backgrounds are enthusiastically welcomed.

Send a message that you care about the truth and that you're ready for change. Share Barack's story with your friends, family, and neighbors today.

That came upon a previous thread a couple of weeks ago.
Someone defended him saying as a Catholic, you are in a parish & not responsible for nutty things that the parish priest might say.
However, Catholics have been abandoning parishes in droves because of the child sex scandals.
But beyond that, Barry lives in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. This church is a bout eight miles away. The Obamas drive past lots of Christian churches to get to this one. He has been going there for twenty years & has always admired the pastor. He must like the sermons.

Could you identify some of the instances you refer to?

This video (at Ace, Jawa, maybe MM and others) shows B. Hussein Obama’s pastor in a less mainstream way. The audio sync is not good, but it is clear.

Pay particular attention to the passages about . . . fitting the mold . . . rich, white, privileged.

Then look, for example, at BHO's mansion, Michelle's admission to Harvard, and her 2005 pay increases.

The pastor seems to miss some important details about the Obamas.

Well, of course the old testament predicts the messiah but JC doesn't show up until part II (New Testament) and they (jews) don't kill him until the end. Therefore Hagee's statement about jews feeling remorse for killing JC couldn't possibly be in the Old testament. JC hadn't arrived or died until the New testament.

As an atheist you can word it that way. But real Christians that know Jesus as being Jewish, do not place his death at the hands of "the jews." Maybe a few knuckledraggers, but you won't find it in any contemporary mainstream dogma.

John Hagee is pastor of Cornerstone Church down here is San Antonio. He has NEVER come close to the vitriolic, racist hate of Obama's "reverend" in the sermons I've heard.

On the contrary, he has always been consistent in supporting Israel and Judaism as a sister faith to his evangelical ministry. He has hosted several Israeli leaders as guest preachers, including Benjamin Netanyahu. Cornerstone also sponsored the repatriation of hundreds of east European Jews to Israel. He is resolutely supportive of our armed forces and their mission against terrorist Islam and by all measures is a patriotic American.

Hagee has espoused the usual complaints against Catholicism, probably as a recruiting tool in a largely Catholic town and region. (I am not a member of his church.)

According to the WSJ, Trinity United Church of Christ's parent body is being investigated by the IRS for possible violation of the tax laws, in connection with Obama's campaign. Which it should, though it'll join a host of other churches also under investigation. What's more interesting is that this person said what he did, a mere five days after the 9/11 attack, apparently without any protest or physical altercation. I think it defines the patriotism of every member of the parish. Or rather, the lack of it.

266 calcajun  Thu, Mar 13, 2008 11:14:52am

re: #157 JustMyView

First and foremost - NOLA - my hometown. When the African-American population became a majority back in the late 70's and the first black mayor was elected, Dutch Morial, there was no appreciable change in the way business was done there. Patronage was patronage and the same old system stayed in place. The cronies from the old white administrations got turfed out in favor of the black cronies.

Look at recent history with the DA in NOLA - Eddie Jordan. A jury determined that Jordan violated employment discrimination laws when, after having taken office, he ordered the wholesale firing of white employees and replaced almost all of them with black workers. That moron trashed the DA's office - which is now bankrupt since it has to pay the judgment.

Instead of trying to be agents of change, they fall into predictable patterns of human behavior and engage in the same acts they condemned in the prior administration. I do not doubt that Obama will be pressured to play cronyism if he is elected. He will try to appear fair, but if he has more supporters like Wright, think of the caliber of the people who he will pick. If you thought "Travelgate" was bad...

Look, I want to make it clear that this is not anti-black rhetoric. It's a political fact. You do not look at a candidate alone, but at the company he keeps and with whom he does business. Look not only at the candidate, but at the people he has dealt on the way up and to whom he is indebted- those are the people he will want to reward if elected - and those are the people who will be at DOJ, DOD, State, Treasury, DHS...and on the Federal Bench.

Hagee's a dick. He's an anti-catholic, anti-mormon, antisemic gay bashing freak. He might support Israel but he's still an ass.

Please, a reference? I hadn't heard this one before.

There is a Scripture that Hagee knows and is refering to along with others. He is not an antisemite by any stretch of the imagination The Scripture you need to understand (but can't because of yourself) is in Romans 11.

Romans 11:28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they[Jews of Judaism] are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they[Jews of Judaism] are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29for God's gifts and his call [Covenant with Abraham] are irrevocable. 30Just as you[ who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now[h] receive mercy as a result of God's mercy to you. 32For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all [Jews & Gentiles - any offspring of Eve].

When I mentioned Pastor Hagee quoting OT, you provided the reference. He was looking for a literal mention of Jesus in that reference. I understand why Killgore was unconvinced. The original text does NOT explicitly says JESUS. When a Christian reads it, he or she automatically sees Jesus. A non-Christian would not see it.

Therein the unconvinced part.

The summary conclusions of the 1945 Intelligence Report on the proposed invasion of Japan (Operation Downfall) was as follows:

1. Japan would not surrender unconditionally without a demonstration of total destruction.

2. In an invasion of the Japanese home islands, the people would fight to the death to protect their nation.

3. An invasion of the Japanese home islands would cost approximately 1 million American casualties and perhaps 10 million Japanese.

An interesting development. I think the Democrats had planned to put the empty suit B. Hussein "Ears" Obama in the White House on the basis of his appearance, and then pull his wires as they pleased. However, it appears that B.H.E. has plans of his own, and his own plans for whom to select as advisors, and the Party finds that it needs to back-paddle.

Best case, they will succeed in pulling the rug out from under Obama, and it will be the socialist beast vs. McCain. (I think that in this case, McCain would be the better candidate, but I don't think there's much disagreement with this here on LGF.) Worst case, the Democrats will not be able to rein in the monster they've created, and it will be the Ears the Rogue as their candidate. In that case, the election will be decided by whether the American people, in the aggregate, listen to the candidates' words, or go by what is fashionable and pseudo-hip (pseudo, because, come on, if it's everybody else's opinion, you're not much of a free thinker if it just happens to be yours as well).

Interesting Times for such a contest, with Russia and China on the rise and the Little Hairy Man in Iran on the verge of plunging the Middle East into chaos if he isn't stopped.

I gave him a chapter and verse from the prophet Zechariah. He then said no one had provided him with a chapter and verse, I daid I did. He said he is not convinced.

I am not trying to convince him of the premise of the statement itself, just the fact that it does indeed exist in Scripture. What he makes of it is his own business.

Hagee is a friend of Israel, sure -- because he believes the existence of Israel is going to bring on the end times and the return of Jesus. I guess you could call that being a friend of Israel.

But he's also said that the Catholic Church conspired with Adolf Hitler to wipe out the Jews. And he's called the Catholic Church "the great whore." He's also indulged in some really hateful gay bashing, and said that Hurricane Katrina was God's vengeance on New Orleans for being such a den of sin.

That's why John McCain did the right thing by distancing himself from Hagee.

HELLO! From yesterday's Dutch burqa hoax, some translation:

Here a translation made by Google translate and me of course:
"If you are wearing a burka you will not get any help from the people of Amsterdam. That is the idea you have to get after this item from 101tv. A reporter is getting dressed in a burka to see how the people of Amsterdam will react if she needs help on the street. She drops a bag with oranges on the street to see whether the people will help with picking up the oranges from the street. AT5 (Amsterdam Television) filmed the team of 101tv accidentally while they were shooting their item and sees a completely different story. According to the reporter, she was immediately helped as she was normally dressed, but when she got dressed in a burka nobody wants to help her anymore according to the reporter. According to the images made by AT5 everyone is immediately ready to help. With or without burka. Then the reporter says, (while she pulls her burka down), I have nothing against a burka, some of my family members are dressed in them too. But god, what makes that a difference. Nobody helps me, the people walk on. But according to the pictures of AT5 the all the people who want to help are told that they must walk on. Recording, people. Walk on!. AT5 shows the item to the deputy mayor who says that Amsterdam is shown as a city that ignores people in distress on the street. The images are clearly manipulated. What do they want to proof here ? and what should one think when you are watching television like this ? He finds it quite scandalous. The chief of 101tv said that there was no deliberate manipulation and that what was displayed in the item of 101tv for 90% reflects the truth. He says that the young inexperienced programmers liked to make their own truth. To which the reporter says that he is solely responsible for the content on the site and asks him whether he is also inexperienced."

My correspondent says to me: But this case is not an one-off incident but more the usual "modus operandi" of Dutch (subsidised with tax-money) public television made in the little village of Hilversum.

Which is not too far distant from what Ahmadinejad thinks. Swap "the 12th imam" for "Jesus" and insert [end] the existence of Israel. They're both nut cases.

re: #325 Creeping Eruption

I must most respectfully disagree. Jesus was not killed by Jews.

It was Romans who nailed him to the cross; it was a mob of people, who happened to - like Jesus himself - be Jewish, that demanded his crucifixion...Of course, most Jewish people at the time were not among that mob. If the story is to be believed, it was a handful of people.

The point is that I don't believe in historical guilt, be it for slavery or the death of Jesus or anything else. A person can only bare the guilt for his own transgressions.

Here is a link to a pictureof Obama's African relatives, including a half-brother and half-sister. They kinda look like black people to me, but you be the judge.

The two links to claims about his Arab ancestry that have been presented here are, first of all, not independent. They cite each other. so there's really only one source. Second, those sources make claims, but they don't provide any support for them. I could say that George Bush's one of George Bush's forebears was Christopher Columbus, but that doesn't make it true.

There is one aspect to the whole african/arab you may want to consider.

Just because they are dark in appearance, and have very african features does not mean they can't be arabic.

Obama's
lineage is actually quite interesting. On his mother's side, they
traced the family back to having actually owned slaves.

on his father's side, IIRC, going back 12 generations, they came to Kenya as slave traders.

Huh. And even though my family emmigrated to America after the Civil War, I would still have to pay slave reparations if certain people get their way.

The Catholic church did make a deal with the Nazis. Basically, if the Nazis left the Vatican alone, the Vatican wouldn't condemn them. However, there were hundreds, if not thousands, of parish priests who were hiding Jews and smuggling them out of Germany, Italy, Poland etc.

Your citation doesn't mention Jesus Christ, or his side being pierced by the jews, nor the Jews remorse for doing so. It's very clear that Hagee's statement was not derived from the Old Testament.

That Jesus is not mentioned by name is neither proof or disproof, as the Messiah is not mentioned by a given name but by reference (such as Shepherd, Redeemer, etc). So you are correct in saying the name of Jesus is not there.

There is a parallel verse, I believe in the book of John, that mirrors this verse. I could look it up if you like.

Yes, Hagee's statement was derived from New Testament, that's my point.

You still aren't getting it, and I don't fault you for that. The verse in the Gospels is a replica of the verse in Zechariah. The point being, Evangelicals view the both of them as intertwined - one as a fullfillment of the other or more often, a foreshadowing of the other. Whatever words Hagee used, these two verses would have probably been one in his mind.

The words in both are basically identical.

because he believes the existence of Israel is going to bring on the end times and the return of Jesus.

I would call that to be interpreting that this is Pastor Hagee's main motivation to be a friend of Israel. Jews for First repeatedly repeat this theme against Christian Zionists. I do not believe that this is the main motivation.

But he's also said that the Catholic Church conspired with Adolf Hitler to wipe out the Jews.

Throughout history, the Catholic Church did persecute the Jews and had condemned them. Regarding this specific charge that Rome sided with Hitler regarding the Jews, note that Rome was SILENT while the Jews were carted off to their death. There are Vatican documents from that era that has not been released. So we really don't know precisely if there was an agreement or not. But when there is silence or not saying anything when a major catastrophe (the Holocaust) is happening means you implicitly agree with it.

We just got the documents from the Knights of Templar trial from the Vatican Library just released recently...and that happened like how long ago?

#351 Charles 3/13/08 11:29:16 am reply quote report 4

Hagee is a friend of Israel, sure -- because he believes the existence of Israel is going to bring on the end times and the return of Jesus. I guess you could call that being a friend of Israel.

But he's also said that the Catholic Church conspired with Adolf Hitler to wipe out the Jews. And he's called the Catholic Church "the great whore." He's also indulged in some really hateful gay bashing, and said that Hurricane Katrina was God's vengeance on New Orleans for being such a den of sin.

His friendship to Israel extends to using some of his churches millions to pay for the airfare of eastern European Jews to Israel, not just using Israel as an Armageddon-scare-magnet. I would hazard to say that most evangelicals are endtimers; the whole Gog, Magog, plane of Armageddon scenario. How many in the movement actually throw down the tithe like he does?

Man, I've never heard him say the gaybashing, Katrina-vengeance things (I don't listen every week though). It would be nice to review the references if you had them at hand. Could be useful since I'm flanked by book-thumpin' Hageeites in my neighborhood.

many of the war years. I believe it was 1942-44, but I'll have to check. I just read a great article on it (well researched) and a book review of a book on the subject. The Papacy was in a very difficult spot, obviously, lying in the den of the beast.

Remember, no religious folk suffered more than the jews in WWII, followed by Catholics. Catholic priests were in the camps by the score as well. many people of conscience fought back in ways they could. St. Maximillian Kolbe is one famous story. There are many.

The "wartime Pope", used the Christmas Eve proclamations to address the issues as best he could.

If you or anybody else is interested, A Jewish View of the New Testament is one of this month's featured selections at Jewish-history.com

I have a great CHristian Bible at home with footnotes referring to where it comes from in the Torah.

Otherwise:

It is permitted (muttar) to teach the commandments to Christians (notsrim) and draw them to our law (datenu). But it is not permitted to teach anything from it to Muslims (yisma’elim) because it is known to you about their belief that this Torah [of ours] is not from God . . . and if one can convince the Christians of the correct interpretation [of Scripture], it is possible (efshar) that they might return to what is good (she-yahzoru la-mutav).15

Christians are like half Jews, according to the Rambam.

And come to think of it, this absolves Coulters comments (not that there was anything wrong with what she said).

He's not a hate monger by any informed and intellectually honest opinion. He has, however, condemned the act of homosexuality as a sin, NOT condemned homosexuals, just the act itself. Most evangelicals will get on the Leviticus wagon when it comes to this subject.

I have not read the thread.
Matter of fact I'm almost afraid to read this thread...

I will say this

Hagee is not comparable at all to Obama's Chief Snake Oil Priest and the fact that the parallel was drawn here indicates a real lack of knowledge of what Hagee is all about.

Hagee is the largest and loudest supporter of Israel in the Christian world. He has worked tirelessly for Israel, more than almost anyone else I have observed, Christian or Jew.

Hagee is hated far and wide, and by people of all denominations, Jewish, Christian Muslim and Secular.
This recently became worse when certain Christian groups felt he denied the divinity of Christ in his last book, IN DEFENSE OF ISRAEL.

Hagee says things about the ~isms, the denominations, that people really resent. Many Catholics, Episcopals, Protestants, Methodists and others regularly call him a "hate" preacher. Because he disagrees with them.
I don't call that hate.

Hagee preaches certain things I don't agree with (example: a "rapture") theologically but so do all preachers I have seen. Some Rabbis say all sorts of things I disagree with too. That is the nature of revealed religion. No one is going to say everything you want to hear. And a preacher actually preaching what the Bible says CERTAINLY will not be telling you what you want to hear.

Hagee does not preach any kind of "hate" that I have ever witnessed. He does preaches against homosexuality. Also against pre-marital sex. If this is the "hate" being refereed to in the blurb I have not witnessed him hating anyone on this subject but merely sticking with the Biblical mandate on it. Which I know is some sort of shock in the world today but if the an is representing the Bible he ought to preach what is in it, and Hagee does.

To put him on par with WRIGHT
in any way
indicates to me monumental ignorance of his actual behavior and a judgment based on assumption.

Not good.

The media hounded John McCain until he finally denounced Pastor John Hagee, as he should have.

But Barack Obama is much closer to this lunatic Rev. Wright than McCain ever was to Hagee. How long until he cuts his ties with this over-the-top hater?

I am sorry Charles but this comparison between Wright and Hagee is entirely untenable on every level.

Hagee loves America, he loves Israel, and he loves GOD
Disagree with him all you want but there is zero comparison between that man and WRIGHT

Wright preaches "another Jesus".
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

We've been a little sidetracked but I do find the broader subject interesting; Many of these religious endorsements and affiliations are problematic. Although American politics puts a very high premium on religious qualifications endorsements from many religious leaders are becoming a problem (Falwell, Robertson, Hagee, Farakahn, etc). Who would have ever predicted we would see the day when politicians are vilified for their affiliations with religious leaders instead of the other way around. It might be a sign that these religious leaders need to get their shit together. They are becoming a liability.

625 sojerofgod  Thu, Mar 13, 2008 12:30:40pm

Hope is not a Plan

The type of rhetoric espoused by this pastor is more common in black churches than many think -or would like to believe. I have been in several in the course of my work as a computer technician. Sadly I must say that in several instances blaming white men for all the ills of the world appears to be a common thread. I’m NOT trying to stereotype, but many black communities have been fed this inferiority complex stuff for a lot of years, it isn’t surprising that pastors would reflect the views of the flock.
That said, I think Obama is not a good choice for America, because his acts and words convince me that he is not ready to represent all americans. The leader of our country must beable to reach out to everyone if they are to be successful.
Obama hangs his hat of empty speechifying and vage hope

Israel and Gaza Trade Fire

That's right - just like carbon emissions, they're just trading Prometheus' flame.

The terrorists got busy firing off barrages of kassams at Israel, which slammed into Sderot as usual, and Israel has responded with airstrikes against the terrorists. That's not a fair trade. A fair trade would be dead terrorists.

And of course, they're blaming Israel for the uptick in violence because Israel went and killed four terrorists who were involved in an earlier terror plot (and included members of Fatah and Islamic Jihad - you mean you're shocked, SHOCKED! to see Fatah and Islamic Jihad working together?!)

Long slow cook - low boil. Brisket takes a while. When you can stick a fork in it and there is no resistance - it's done. Otherwise, chewy shoe leather.

re: #86 Psaturn

I am awfully sorry for coming into this thread... and presumably this discussion so late. Probably too late for anyone to notice. But...

...many "Jews for Jesus" and, I suppose, Christian Zionists like this fellow will try to convince Jews that Jesus was the messiah by using the Tanach (Old Testament). After all, what good would it do to convince a Jew about Jesus by showing New Testament? Just like a Christian can't be expected to accept Muhammad by reading the Koran... of course the Muslim holy book says Muhammad is a prophet, but if the Christian book said it, you might have some grounds for persuasion, so Christians will attempt to convince Jews by using Jewish scriptures about Jesus.

Unfortunately, many of these arguments are made through bad translations and misinterpretations. I would recommend the lectures of Rabbi Tovia Singer to understand the Jewish interpretations of these scriptures.

[Link: www.simpletoremember.com...] (And do a search for Zachariah)

Bear in mind, I am grateful for Christian Zionism, and Christian support of Israel. But the rest of my Jewish family... or most of them... the hard leftists... believe that the reason Christians support Israel is so all the Jews can be shipped there, the Rapture will come, and Jesus will convert or damn all the Jews.

Or perhaps Islam is right, and the Mahdi will show up and do pretty much the same thing.

Or... I know no one can imagine this, but perhaps the Jews are right, and the Messiah won't be Jesus or the Mahdi.

My philosophy, which I try to get my Christian friends to agree with (and even then, they often don't) is to say that when the messiah comes, we will go to him and say: "How do you do, messiah? Good to see you. By the way, we have five dollars on a bet here, for a question only you can answer... is this your first or second visit?"

Any Lizards here who can attend and document a meeting in Berkeley tonight?

Codepink and World Can't Wait are making a joint presentation with "Berkeley Copwatch" in an open session tonight, to bully the Berkeley Police Review Commission into supporting their protest agenda. Suspect they will also be protesting the police detention of the minors that Codepink recruited for their front lines.

I think this one may have slipped under the radar, so I emailed MAF with the details and I'm posting it here.

Berkeley Police Review Commission To Held Special Meeting

The special meeting is taking place at:

The North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hearst Ave., 6pm

This could seriously hamper the work that MAF is doing in Berkeley, the session is an open session but a decision regarding the petition will be made behind closed doors.

Well, let's see ... we give drugs to who? [Note to self: find that line, get in it!]  Looks to me like foreign or local nationals create the drugs (some of the folk brown, some pasty white), and then the drugs are sold to customers who buy them freely (some of the sellers/buyers brown folk or pasty white).  And it's America's fault?  No one (brown or white) can take responsibility for THEMSELVES?

Oh, wait, there's more ... we build more prisons (again, for brown folk and those who are pasty white) because said peoples commit more crimes and we need the space for more criminals.   Then people who are brown or pasty white pass laws further limiting the feral preditors on society, again consisting of brown and pasty white folk.

And it's America's fault that She protects herself and Her folk (both brown and pasty white) from such riff-raff

No, no, no, God damn America ... God damn America ... God damn America

Sorry for the OT but this is a critical action alert:

Hagee does not do that
he is not a "Jew for Jesus" or anything remotely resembling that
He does NOT proselyte to Jews
and he is against the practice.
Furthermore he has very recently been denounced and attacked by huge swathes of Christians because they feel he denies the divinity of Jesus in his last book In Defense of Israel where he outlines why he thinks that Jewish people are not supposed to think Jesus was the messiah at this time... he believes that he came as blood sacrifice for the Gentiles last time.
He believes Jews will only recognize him on the return trip when he is the Sword and the Lion therefore rendering proselytizing to Jews moot, which is part of why SOME are so pissed at him.

Typical CAIR bullshit in that article, courtesy of Dougie Hooper:

When it comes to assimilating to a new faith, Islam appeals to Catholic Latinas for several reasons. "There are many similarities between Catholicism and Islam," said Ibrahim Hooper, Communications Director and spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, based in Washington, D.C. "Both have principles that need to be followed, regarding how you conduct yourself as person, how you operate in a community."
Others find a new religion to be an escape from the confines of machismo, or chauvinism.

Quite a comparison between Obama's pastor and David Mamet's rabbi, about whom Mamet wrote:

Prior to the midterm elections, my rabbi was taking a lot of flack. The congregation is exclusively liberal, he is a self-described independent (read "conservative"), and he was driving the flock wild. Why? Because a) he never discussed politics; and b) he taught that the quality of political discourse must be addressed first—that Jewish law teaches that it is incumbent upon each person to hear the other fellow out.

Mamet credited his rabbi with turning him around politically, not by haranguing him with hate speech, but by encouraging him to hear his opponents out. I guess we now know why Michelle Obama is so negative on the U.S. -- given the spiritual guidance she has been receiving.

re: #204 Killgore Trout

The "Torah" also called the pentateuch, is the first five "books" of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

The rest of the "Old Testament" (which the Jews call the Tanach, because it is not "Old" to us) includes... well, the story of Joshua, Samuel, Psalms, and Prophets. It goes further into the history of the Jewish people and their kings, up to the conquest by Babylon, and the destruction of the first temple. The Prophets (of which Zachariah was one) talked much about the Messiah, and were often very critical of the Jewish people.

Another difference between Jews and Muslims... the Koran keeps on telling the Muslims how wonderful and perfect they are. The Tanach tells the Jews all their shortcomings and mistakes. We're big enough boys that we can take some criticism. Muslims, as we all know, cannot.

It is a common game for Christians to go through the Prophets of the Tanach to find ammunition for their claim that Jesus is the messiah. Much of this game relies on misinterpretation or mistranslation of the text; there is a reason Jews do not believe Jesus is the messiah, and that is because we have a strong argument, not because we're stubborn and ignorant. Jesus does not meet the Jewish criterions for the Messiah. He does in Christianity; Christianity messiah-ship and Jewish messiah-ship have different definitions, even if the word may be the same.

I feel the need to jump in here and state that no self-respecting Irish person is going to eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patricks Day, to them this is British fare.

Corned beef and cabbage is purely an Irish-American thing.

It's good, of course... but if you want to make traditional Irish food on St. Patricks day go for Shepherds Pie, Irish stew with lamb and Guinness, and Irish soda bread. I make Colcannon myself, and serve it in the traditional way.

As for the green beer, hell no! Find a proper pint of Guinness, Murphys or Beamish or forget about it.

If you've ever been around stoners you would know that Moses wouldn't have brought down 10 Commandments.

The second one fairly incoherent.

Zechariah says it

Hagee just repeats it
So do thousands of Christian preachers.

10 "And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit [a] of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 11 On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, 13 the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, 14 and all the rest of the clans and their wives.

Killgore, don't be so testy. One example:Isaih 7:14 reads "Behold a young woman shall conceive..."

In Matthew 1:22-3 it gets altered "A virgin shall conceive..."

The Hebrew word for virgin is betulah. The word used in Isiah is almah - young woman

Almost every word Jesus speaks in the NT is a rerun of an OT verse.

If you get the "Complete Jewish Bible" by David Stern each time this happens the OT verse is given you to check.

There are other translations that also do this, but if you want to know what you are talking about and not just make conclusions based on assumptions, get that version and check them all yourself.

Which is why if you do not know the OT you can not possibly understand the NT.
