McCain gave the speech yesterday.
Think Progress assumed that he plagiarized Zeimler's 1996 speech.

McCain campaign pointed out that McCain made the same speech in 1995. And it was right there on McCain's website.
Think Progress, in all their rigorous research, never looked on McCain's website.

I detest war. It might not be the worst thing to befall human beings, but it is wretched beyond all description. When nations seek to resolve their differences by force of arms, a million tragedies ensue. The lives of a nation’s finest patriots are sacrificed.

Innocent people suffer and die. Commerce is disrupted; economies are damaged; strategic interests shielded by years of patient statecraft are endangered as the exigencies of war and diplomacy conflict. Not the valor with which it is fought nor the nobility of the cause it serves, can glorify war. Whatever gains are secured, it is loss the veteran remembers most keenly.

re: #101 AZfederalist

Wasn't there a Dilbert (back when Scott Adams was funny) where the Pointy Haired Boss wanted to get everyone to start using 10 point font in order to save disk space? Think we could get the lefties to buy the same logic for saving energy?

Where I once worked we had a problem with people typing in all caps. One day I posted a note on the computer to use lower case to save disc space.

Former Utica church may become mosque

“Anything that promotes spirituality, it is only for the better,” she said. “They should have more diverse places to worship. It is an opportunity to learn. Their faith is not built on something wrong. I think it is wonderful.”

When one sees churches being turned into mosques, but no mosques becoming churches, it should set off an alarm about the future of Western civilization.

Some of em went to using lower case. What was funny was our head engineer saw it and asked the I/T intern if it would help. The intern told him yes, then came hunting me laughing.

I'm raising The Kid to be a Tree-Hugger.

I will teach him how important it is for the environment that there are oxygen-carbon critters, that trees are excellent agents in soil conservation. I will teach him that trees are better than buildings, that no building ever produced a single apple.

Trees

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I have a question to pose. Random, perhaps, but useful (to me, at least).
Now, when you're sitting in your intro psych class and some girl comes up and gives you a survey on the importance of turning the school into an environmentally friendly campus, and the question that stumps you in the survey is... "are you environmentally conscious?"
How the hell are you supposed to answer that question?
(I replied, "If you're asking if I am aware that the environment exists, than yes, yes I am conscious of the existence of the environment.")

'climate change', i said, "oh so you have finally started to sort your garbage and recycle? or do you still just throw the glass, bottle, cans and cartons in w/ the slop and trash, cause you're special and you can do it like that, kind of like algore can fly his big jet from knoxville to cookville because he doesn't like buses.?" i don't think she even got the implications of my question. very annoying. most of them talk but don't do.

Nothing wrong with conservation appropriately applied. OTOH, not a single standing apple tree has provided shelter against a 60 below wind chill.

I can take people I disagree with if they play fairly, and they (never been there before that page) seem to be.
