Oliver Stone Rushing to Finish Bush-Hating Movie

Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:08:08 pm PDT

Oliver Stone is rushing to finish his new film in time for the Presidential election, a film that asks the question, “How did Bush go from being an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?

It’s a light-hearted fantasy. A real feel-good movie. Capra-esque, but with a touch of Cindy Sheehan.

The first sentence let me know what the writer thought about the film.

How different the world might look now if the US president and his advisers had settled on the phrase Axis of Unbearably Odious, or Axis of Hatred.
18 BlueCanuck  Wed, Apr 2, 2008 10:14:31pm

Oliver Stone dosen't have an axe to grind right? After all he made "Platoon", um I mean "JFK", um. . . . . . ..

19 Racer X  Wed, Apr 2, 2008 10:14:41pm

Maybe Ollie just wants to cut his losses?

Another Anti-War Movie Tanks at the Box Office

Another anti-war movie is tanking at the box office. Overnights for Friday show the film "Stop Loss" garnering an anemic $1.4 million for a projected $4 million opening weekend. This despite a huge build up and massive ad campaign with great reviews from movie/war critics.

20 pat  Wed, Apr 2, 2008 10:14:55pm

Oliver Stone proved who killed Kennedy. The CIA, the FBI, the Army, the Navy, 12 Senators, 134 Congressmen, the Mafia, a Cuban renegade disobeying Castro's orders, Boeing, General Dynamics, Litton Industries, and the Shareholders of AT&T. But it is still unproven. What we do know is that Oswald did not do it.

Mr, Stone,

And let me add that this type of crap just drives me nuts.

Bush is well aware that he will be an alcoholic you friggin asshole.

What should be a movie about overcoming one's personal demons will be turned into your soap box in which you will display your so-called moral superiority in a way not previously done by exploiting the misery of soldiers, the victims of homicidal maniacs and assassins and anything else that will give you cover for the very little you have had to or will offer in your lifetime.

Go to hell.

I'm more curious how McCain will be portrayed. It's before an election-there will have to be some scene with a guy who looks like him, or fits his description -or might even be a direct portrayal of him. Lets see how much they try to throw this thing.

Of course it won't matter when nobody sees it. Why would even a lefty want to sit through the life and times of George W Bush however much it fits their view of him?

57 varmint  Wed, Apr 2, 2008 10:31:27pm

we should thank oliver stone. his JFK was the high water mark of the assassination conspiracy movement. the movie was such an abortion, the loons couldn't survive such a public humiliation.

it actually made kennedy death jokes acceptable. i personally was responsible for the "where's Oswaldo" gag. showing a little figure in glasses and stiped red shirt hiding n the grassy knoll.

we can only hope he'll have the same effect on the current generation of troofer dullards.

Platoon wasn't even all that good.

A handful of good scenes strung together around a really crappy plot line and held together by a handful of screen chewing actors. Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, Forrest Whittaker, Johnny Depp, and Kevin Dillon. All of them carrying Charlie Sheen's poor imitation of his father in Apocalypse Now.

Cod philosophy

Cod philosophy, sometimes cod-philosophy, is a term for the personal philosophy of the masses, or the philosophical musings of one who has not formally studied philosophy. The word "cod" comes from first syllable of "codswallop", and so the term carries with it a negative connotation. [

Yes only an hour away.

I grew up on the Gulf in FL. About an hour and half from Mobile. It's funny because my friend's grandfather is in the Ken Burn's Docu "The War". You can tell from the Mobile group who is from the garden district and who is not. Katherine Phillips is a grand example of that Port accent. My friend's grandfather is too. A grand patriarch of Mobile. Friend's mother in law went to school around Charleston and this linguistic professor indentified her accent as a Mobile one and said it was unique to Southern Ports

Very puzzling... after GREAT REVIEWS from film critics (oxymoron warning!) AND 'war critics', it STILL TANKS MISERABLY?

"Good evening, I'm Snooty Nikkertwisst, pansy-assed critic of wars, bringing you tonight's review of "Today in Iraq: Purple Thumbs and Other Body Parts"

Well, as I've said before, this effort has NEVER had the... the... uh, SCENT, the 'zeitgeist' of WWII, and little of the moral clarity of the Korean Police Action, but I thought GW Bush's 'Lie Like a Liar to Get the War Started' was a fitting start to this, but now that so many Iraqis are standing in line to volunteer for a job replacing American Marines and Army troops in this dirty little 'war' with dirty little CIA-planted 'brown-people' enemies, its literally no fun at all!

And those dreadful purple thumbs... what does Bush expect? Iraqis holding up signs thanking him? He didn't fight at all!

And with embedded 'journalists' like Michael Yawn carrying water for our corrupt government, making up stories about village massacres and 'terrorist' atrocities, this 'war' only gets a 2 Thumbs Up out of 5 this week.

Well, barring Democrats bringing our illegally-occupying troops home this week -and I don't see THAT happening!- I'll see you here at your local cable or TV station! This is Snooty Nikkertwist, War Critic, out!"

/uhm, yeah, waddever!

Oliver Stone? It seems incomprehensible to me that anyone takes him seriously at all. I mean, even if you don't like to read, the History Channel runs a show about the facts behind his Kennedy film, and it's obvious that reality has very little to do with his films.

Anyone who plays that fast and loose with facts does those who don't know, or refuse to see, any better a great dis-service. And the amount of pure, unadulterated hatred shown for the president should function as a buyer beware sticker for those looking for an unbiased, objective account.

But I suppose that isn't what he wants anyway, is it?

It's so funny too because on one hand he is a first class idiot , yet on the other he is maniacal. Which one is it?

He is a peace with his decisions right or wrong, and does not seem to be bothered by the vitriol that is espoused by the Bush delusionists.

I am not a big Bush fan.

I think he will rate well in history.

I think he would have been able to rate much better if he had remembered that a big part of his job as President was to sell his vision of what was right.

He really let us down in that department.

Otherwise, I think he will be remembered as having courageously stood up to the Islamic push early in the long battle ahead of us, even if less effectively then he could have done.

Great choice casting Ed Harris.

Oscar nominated actor Ed Harris told a crowd of abortion rights activists in Washington Tuesday night that Bush failed to meet the criteria for the "definition of a man" because of his failure to support abortion rights.

"Being a man, I have got to say that we got this guy in the White House who thinks he is a man, who projects himself as a man because he has a certain masculinity. He's a good old boy, he used to drink, and he knows how to shoot a gun and how to drive a pickup truck. That is not the definition of a man, God dammit!" Harris said to wild applause.

Very interesting, because being a Typical Atlantic Person, I just though of it as Low Country....SC and Ga tidewater/port areas! Had no idea the accent in the Gulf ports is similar!

Daddy Issues, War Lust in Oliver Stone's 'W'

It's a classic American story: In the prime of his life, a man who parties too much and lives in the shadow of his esteemed father turns his life around. He gives up alcohol, embraces religion and finds a new purpose.

But will his desire to impress his dad and purge his personal demons put the world in danger?

Coming soon to a movie theater near you: controversial director Oliver Stone's "W," the life story of President George W. Bush, a warts-and-all portrayal.

Though the movie is scheduled for release in 2009, there is a chance that it might be pushed up to come out before the November election, say insiders. ...

So far, there are only a few actors officially attached to Oliver Stone's W., the epic biopic about our current commander-in-chief. Josh Brolin was cast as President George W. Bush back in January, then recently Elizabeth Banks was chosen as his wife, First Lady Laura Bush, and last week James Cromwell and Ellen Burstyn were locked into the roles of former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush, respectively. Unofficial casting bites, though, include a lot of other big name actors. Jeffrey Wright is reportedly in negotiations to play Colin Powell, Tommy Lee Jones is supposedly being sought for Donald Rumsfeld, Robert Duvall has been rumored to be the choice for Vice President Dick Cheney and now both Paul Giamatti and Toby Jones are being named as potentials for the part of Karl Rove ...

No. Not in vain. We found out there are a lot of good people out there....including (GASP!) lawyers, willing to go all out to help a mom who lost her son in war. Local lawyers were enlisting opinions of experts from DC to Charlotte, who in turn couldn't have been more generous with time and concern.
One big shot in Charlotte even arranged for a blow-up of the mosaic. My SIL was so relieved that her son was NOT on it. So that was kind of him to do.....and he did it out of his own pocket.

Oliver Stone ... asks the question, “How did Bush go from being an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?”

It must be the most throbing question for Stone. I always thought that he looks and talk like a guy having heavy hangover.

That isn't really it at all. There are just two mapping companies left in the world - Navtech and Teleatlas. Those two produce all of the data for post offices, UPS, FedEx, map making, everything online, OnStar, gadgets like TomTom. All of the data is stored in a database - actually a large collection of them. (One of my kids works for one of those two companies.)

If you want a standard old fashioned map then check National Geographic.

Wrath has three....no, four....actually, five.....directions he's been allowing things to press in on him........it seems like cycles with him.......perhaps the suffering of being blocked from lgf will cause him to take his strength in his hands for good this time.........at least I hope so --I do like him.

I have nothing against him at all.
The same with some others I've seen banned.
But, again, I don't understand why they would confront Charles as if he were an adversary. We're on his turf.
Dissing him or LGF is almost like treason, after enjoying its benefits for X amount of time.

Right Ma? ;)

Senior officials of the Iranian government, the U.S. military has noted in press briefings, support and in some cases control, illegal armed groups that are fighting American forces and undermining the Iraqi government. In particular, the recent fighting in Basra and Baghdad is not at root a civil war between Iraqi Shia political factions, but an ongoing struggle between the Iraqi government and illegal militias organized, trained, equipped and funded by Iran.

Stone can whine all he wants, but it won't change the fact that he is a 3rd rate propagandist and President Bush was President of the United States for 8 years, a position in life that Stone could never have achieved.

"Fitna" is already being distributed via YouTube with Spanish subtitles. Behind the 18 y/o wall, but it's already there. The version in Italian is almost ready and they are already working on the German one.
This is what I know, I won't be surprised if it's already being translated in several other languages.

Will the last kuffar out..shut the door....

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch newspaper De
Volkskrant (12 October) that young Europeans who love freedom, better
emigrate. Europe as we know it will no longer exist 20 years from now.
Whilst sitting on a terrace in Berlin, Broder pointed to the other customers
and the passers-by and said melancholically: “We are watching the world of
yesterday.”

Europe is turning Muslim. As Broder is sixty years old he is not going to
emigrate himself. “I am too old,” he said. However, he urged young people to
get out and “move to Australia or New Zealand. That is the only option they
have if they want to avoid the plagues that will turn the old continent
uninhabitable.

In the director's own words, the film will address the question: "How did Bush go from being an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?"

If alcoholism is a disease, Stone now calls diseased people bums. The epitome of arrogance of many on the left.

Future headlines: The award-winning actor ----------, an alcoholic bum, enters rehab for help.

316 David IV of Georgia  Thu, Apr 3, 2008 3:01:54am

I don't really know the particulars of WoG's banning.

Sometimes people think that long familiarity gives them the right to be rude, patronizing or meddlesome. Long familiarity will make people more forgiving, for awhile, but it is still bad manners. The tone of voice and the spirit of the comment often is key to whether a comment is taken as concerned advice or a busybody's nagging.

317 Confuzed  Thu, Apr 3, 2008 3:02:05am

You OK Storage, no links posted yet? Opening LGF links and seeing that black dog with a bone in his mouth always brings a smile to my face.

I'll miss WOG, even though she/he did seem to be subcutaneous (get under people's skin) at times.

Verily I say, if it takes another 1,000 500 pushups to get WOG back, I'll reluctantly do that too (shoulders now getting fluent in Swahili - clicks and pops from older injuries).

That being said, it takes A LOT to get Charles angry, a lot.

Best skunk experience I had was a couple of years ago. I was outside having a smoke, late at night, when I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked and didn't see anything, so I carried on. I was standing beside a a/c unit so when a skunk came around the corner I was a little startled. It took one look at me made a wide turn around me and waddled on to the back yard. Me I finished my smoke before making my way inside. Panicing around skunks is the worst thing to do.

Poverty - the investors will certainly understand this soon enough
Despair - at the state of Hollywood cinema
Lunacy - of the studio & producers to even contemplate the project
Tank - it will
Bomb - at the box office

Is Red Dawn available on DVD?

Yup, and they'll also miss the reason WHY it bombs. They will say "people are so tired of GW Bush that they don't want to see a movie about him," the term "Bush Fatigue" and "Republican Fatigue" will be used incessantly, etc. Just like with "Stop Loss," which they say tanked at the box office because it was about the Iraq war -- mising the entire point that it was a US and troop bashing crapfest that just happened to be about the Iraq war...

Of course it won't matter when nobody sees it. Why would even a lefty want to sit through the life and times of George W Bush however much it fits their view of him?

Oliver Stone, Dan Rather, Hillary Clinton are epitomize what I call "The Cockroach Principle."

The Cockroach principle, states that people who are too arrogant and incompetent to realize that they are arrogant and incompetent, drive off most other creative and competent people around them, until they are the last ones left standing. Their doggedness, arises from an insatiable, pathological desire for recognition and power, seemingly immune to scathing criticism that would humble and derail most thinking, feeling, rational people. They will be with us ad nauseum.

Hey Killian, it sounds like he has a couple of more than good enough reasons not to be such a serious loser - reasons which makes his conspiracy theorizing and Bush bashing - along with his stupid wishes for a larger penis - even more incomprehensible and demoralizing. Furthermore, I don't think one has to 'earn his right' to free speech; I understand it's an inalienable right protected by our Constitution.

Insofar as Stone has gone the distance to protect that right for all of us, he has my respect. Insofar as he degrades his good efforts and noble deeds by attacking others who have done the same (and more), I find him despicable and worse, boring.

You, on the other hand, have my respect for having pointed out some seriously worthwhile things the jerk has done. I wonder if he'd do the same for you?

376 Kalak  Thu, Apr 3, 2008 2:04:34pm

Let's see. "Stop Loss" is a colossal flop, with only $4 million in box office.

On the other hand, over four million people watched "Fitna" in the few hours before it was removed from LiveLeak.

Could it be that perhaps people are sick of being told that our troops are bad, and would rather watch films about the reality of the world?
