RetweetPure Antisemitism at Official Obama Site

Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 9:00:45 am PDT

Hosted at the official Barack Obama campaign web site, this blog post has been public since March 1, 2008: IKEY G-KHAN GALACTICCA’s Support Senator Barack Obama For US President Blog: Jews Cannot Afford Not To Support Obama.

Obamanism is the cure for Clintonitis that has devastated America and I hope Jews all over US rally around Obama and support him to win both the nomination and the Presidency because after he wins, he would help the Jews and Israel as well as settle the Middle East problems.

However, if Jews betray Obama and he loses, Africans worldwide would consider it a betrayal to the whole African people and will never forgive world Jewry.

In retaliation, (eye for eye, remember!) Africa would consider expelling all Jews from Africa who have been mining African Gold and Diamond and enriching themselves for many centuries.

It was African gold and diamond that built international finance, trade and banking that the Jews (Rothschild, Warbug, Rockefeller and others) dominate.

It was African gold and diamond that built Jewish banks and wealth worldwide.

It goes on in this vein for a long time, concluding with:

Americans seem to be in slumber and in complete denial of the present dangerous and volatile world situation.

This is where Jews can help.

By supporting Obama to win, they would cure America of Clintonitis and thereby be able to find a permanent solution to the Arab-Jewish problem in the Middle East.

Jews must support Obama or face grave consequences. You cannot afford not to.

I nominate "Skeletons" by Stevie Wonder as the Obama campaign theme song:

video here

Skeletons in your closet
Itchin' to come outside
Messin' with your conscience
In a way your face can't hide

Oh things are gettin' real funky
Down at the old corral
And it's not the skunks that are stinkin'
It's the stinkin' lies you tell

What did your mama tell you about lies
She said it wasn't polite to tell a white one
What did your daddy tell you about lies
He said one white lie turns into a black one

So, it's gettin' ready to blow
It's gettin' ready to show
Somebody shot off at the mouth and
We're getting ready to know

It's gettin' ready to drop
It's gettin' ready to shock
Somebody done turned up the heater
An' a it's gettin' ready to pop

Crevices in your pantry
Now what do we have in here
Havin' a day time nightmare
Has always been your biggest fear

Oh things are gettin' real crucial
Up the old wazoo
Yet you cry, why am I the victim?
When the culprit's y-o-u

What did your mama tell you about lies
She said it wasn't polite to tell a white one
What did your daddy tell you about lies
He said one white lie turns into a black one

So, it's gettin' ready to blow
It's gettin' ready to show
Somebody shot off at the mouth and
We're gettin' ready to know

It's gettin' ready to drop
It's gettin' ready to shock
Somebody done turned up the heater
An' a it's gettin' ready to pop

It's gettin' ready to seep
You're gettin' ready to freak
Somebody done picked up the talk box
And gettin' ready to speak

It's gettin' ready to jive
It's gettin' ready to gel
Somebody done gone let the lid off
And it's gettin' ready to smell

They're gettin' ready to deal
You're gettin' ready to ill
Somebody done just dropped the big dime
And they're gettin' ready to squeal

It's gettin' ready to turn
We're gettin' ready to learn
Somebody done fired up the brimstone
And you're gettin' ready to burn

It's gettin' ready to shake
You're gettin' ready to ache
Somebody done snitched to the news crew
And it's gettin' ready to break

You're gettin' ready to lie
They're gettin' ready to spy
Somebody' s been put on the hot seat
And you're gettin' ready to fry.

Sometimes (most times?) "moderation" is such that nothing is "moderated" until someone complains.

So if nobody complains, posted material will remain indefinitely.

Begging the question of, did nobody notice this bizarre rant, or did nobody complain about it?

It wouldn't exactly shock me to learn that Obama's "inclusiveness" includes Jew-haters, and other whackos, (eg his spiritual mentor Wright, etc).

Obama appeals to the innate decency in all groups of people, beyond party lines, without personal grandiosity. He fosters a desire to restore America's finest values of honor and fairness.

You should have seen what I typed *before* I amended it to "licking his toes" and hit the post button.

The pro-Obama press bias is so strong even Saturday Night live has riffed on it.

EG: We have the NYT reporting literally libelous second or third-hand allegations implying marital infidelity on the part of John McCain, and months go by before anyone takes a look at Obama's 20-year long connection to Jeremiah Wright.

Again, I don't think that crackpots posting on Obama's site are really going to hurt him politically (its too easy for him to distance himself from them), but at best its evidence of a sloppy operation and poor attention to detail.

Again, I don't think that crackpots posting on Obama's site are really going to hurt him politically (its too easy for him to distance himself from them), but at best its evidence of a sloppy operation and poor attention to detail.

So if that is the type of person running his website, what can we expect to be running the country? Oh, we've seen his advisors. He shouldn't be president of anything.

If you keep abusing press freedom, someday soon it will be taken away from you!

American media has become so corrupt and destructive for the sake of getting ratings and making billions of dollars that it does not deserve to be free anymore.

Therefore, If a dictator takes over America in the future, I will support him to arrest all journalists, beginning with you and throw you into Alcatraz for all your evil, then lobotomize and castrate all of you to nullify you forever and ever.

Moreover, I hope this not hate speech, okay?

I liked how he gave a way all the military secrets that we had laser guided bombs way back in the 60's and 70's. Working for a defense contractor and being in the military during these times I would put the laser guided bomb development sometime around 1991 with full implementation around 1995.

Way off. The first generation Paveway LGB was deployed in 1968. They were only used on high-value targets, though:

The most dramatic example was the Thanh Hoa Bridge, 70 miles south of Hanoi, a critical crossing point over the Red River. Starting in 1965, U.S. pilots had flown 871 sorties against it, losing 11 planes without managing to put it out of commission. In 1972 the “Dragon’s Jaw” bridge was attacked with Paveway bombs, and 14 jets managed to do what the previous 871 had not: drop the span, and cut a critical North Vietnamese supply artery.[1]

In the wake of this success, other nations, specifically the Soviet Union, France, and Great Britain, began developing similar weapons in the late 1960s and early 1970s, while US weapons were refined based on combat experience.

I am a real Jew, and I ALWAYS vote. This year will be more critical than ever. . . while I would not have been a natural McCain supporter, I can't adequately delineate in courteous language my apprehension and disgust at the potential "leadership" that could be foisted on us by an ill-informed public voting for the wretches that the Dhimmicratic party has put forth.

There were two branches of my family in Europe early last century. One branch believed "it can't happen here". The others felt "better safe than sorry". Guess which branch survived so that I would have the blessing that is my life today?

Jews need not only to vote, but to get others to vote as well.

Hate to break this to you, but the "tribe" is defined by the religion; not only does the religion determine who is or is not "in the tribe," but it is adherence to the religion that has kept the "tribe" in existence.

Having been determined a member of the "tribe" by those religion-based criteria, you may choose to practice the religion or not, as you choose. But if you consider yourself to share any form of identity with the "tribe," you owe a vote of thanks to those you dismiss as "frummers"--for without them you would not have it.

The question of why you wish to identify with a group whose central organizing principles you reject is an interesting one which we can go into another time.

So I tried to watch the Star Trek episode on CBS' web page that I posted yesterday, and the video kept starting and stopping because the video was downloaded in 40 KB segments. Each time the viewer switched segments, it would pause. Really frustrating, despite the fact that the video was updated to look really nice.

So I went to joost.com and downloaded the latest copy, and they have the original episodes online there with no problems in download. They aren't at the 16 X 9 ratio, but they don't start and stop constantly.

(I have my computer connected via a home wifi network to our DSL account, so others may have better results viewing it online. I tried it with both Firefox and Safari, and it had the same problems with both.

I may be blind, but thinking the talented & respectable & honorable conservative Duncan Hunter could compete with, much less beat, Obama and his messianic supporters is...(insert word here)

Ahh... so putting in a liberal to defeat a socialist is a win for conservativism?

Or just a delay in the death?

Boa Constrictors kill, just the same as spitting cobras. One is fast, the other is slow.

Do you REALLY think the republican party is going to move back to the Right?

Hell, when call center operators for the RNC mentioned that donatorship was down and they were getting rants about the Republican Party moving left, the RNC responded by firing those employees.

They don't WANT to hear it. There is no intent to move Right. They wish to 'guilt' conservatives into voting for them (or use scare tactics like "Not voting Republican is just a vote for Hillary/Obama!")... they pander to the 'moderates' and only care about the liberal voters who aren't quite radical enough to support a communistic/socialistic Hillary or a racist socialist/marxist Obama.

You'll excuse me if I don't see President McCain as a major win for conservativism.

500 kafir  Wed, Apr 9, 2008 10:48:39am

Why does this all feel like taqqiya? Why do I have a sense of impending doom?

The writing that was removed is quite likely an obamania true believer. It is not to hard to guess they are a hyphenated American. It is not hard to believe that they hate jews, and they simply view us as useful idiots. Much like the rest of the dhimmicrats view us.

No, my bigotted and moronic Obamaniac, I am opposed to Obama because of the company he keeps, because of the choices he makes, because of his ill considered policies and foci. If he hired John Bolton, that would be a step in the right direction. If he fired Zbig and Malley and the other nutjobs on his payroll, yes, I would find him more interesting.

But he doesn't. He keeps company with racists and bigots, as your post demonstrated you are.

I don't vote for someone because they are black, jewish, arab, muslim, whatever. I don't vote against them for the same reasons. I vote based upon my choices and interpretation of their ability to represent me and my wishes, and do good by my family and community.

I do not believe Mr. Obama is even remotely interested in the things I am interested in. I believe he supports things I find intensely disagreeable. Race has nothing to do with this. It is political.

Hell, I want to like the guy. If he made smarter choices over who to associate with, and what to support, he would have had my vote. But he didn't.

If you, my dear bigoted Obamaniac, can't get past supporting Obama because of his heritage, or the color of his skin, well ... we have deeper problems then. If large swaths of this country feel a collective guilt that they feel a need to assuage by electing a person based upon their heritage rather than their choices and policies, well, we are going up feces creek without any propulsion gear.

I don't care about his heritage or race. I care about his policies and choices. Both suck. Thats why this jew ain't supporting him. He starts making a 180 and doing some sane things? Sure, I will take another look.

It's Obama's site, it was removed UNTIL attention was drawn to it. And it's not just this one blog. It's Obama's own past statements, 20 years in the pews listening to Rev. Wright, Che flags in Obama offices, etc... It's a pattern.

re: #415 buzzsawmonkey

The question of why you wish to identify with a group whose central organizing principles you reject is an interesting one which we can go into another time.

I can easily explain it now.

I don't "identify" with the Jews - I am one.

Both my parents were Jews and with the possible exception of a few raping cossacks, my ancestors were Jews.

That won't change - even I believe Gaia or Krishna or the bleedin' Thetans.

The Arabs are probably our closet cousins. The are the neighbouring tribe from the 'hood. Arabs were Arabs before Mohammed and Arabs are Arabs despite Mohammed. Arabs are even Arabs if they believe in Mohammed.

If "tribe" seems archaic, which I conceed, try "ethnicity". Again the beards and hats can't define my ethnicity.

I have no problem with the beards n hats. I don't lack gratitude towards them and I don't ignore their suffering (alongside the rest of us) over the years.

I just see religion as one aspect of being Jewish. The language is another aspect. I don't stop being Jewish if I don't speak Yiddish. I don't stop being Jewish if I stop believing in God.

To me this is obvious and if a bunch of religious folks think differently, then that means NOTHING to me. It doesn't change me or my ethnicity.

Being Jewish, I'm sure you appreciate comic irony. Here's some. I am probably the biggest, strongest supporter of Israel in my family (including the my awful leftist relatives who made aliyah - seemingly to sympathise with the Paleos).

Yet despite my strong identity as a Jew, despite my insistence of my Jewish ethnicity and despite my obvious Zionism, there are still many Jews who would prefer to see those fuckers at Neturei Karta as Jews, than me. Simply because they claim to believe in God and I don't.

Funny old world.

I heard that too - some sort of absurd eurotrash "international human rights force" or some BS. I think there was an outcry since as I recall the official name used to be "GI Joe - Real American Hero". But of course to leftists, "American Hero" is an oxymoron.

Look, people have been making threats to Jews forever! Some right smack out in the open, some veiled and sorry to say, some innate... Antisemitism is alive and well. 2009 and the crap is still going on.

We rail against the fact the UN is openly antisemitic yet no one cares to discuss why then the UN was chosen as a partner in the US LED quartet for peace. Same goes for Russia and the EU.

I found that blogpost threat despicable. It made me sick to my stomach! I can't say I find it equally as alarming becuase the President whom I elected twice made a promise that on his first day of office he would sign the embassy act yet I am deeply troubled as to why, for whom and at what price. Thus far the embassy act has been wrongly axed a total of 8 times so what does this tell the world about Jews and Israel? What message does that deliver as to the relevancy of Jerusalem?

When push came to shove to send even the lowest level emissary from the Bush Administration to the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Reunification of Jerusalem, no one was sent. Talk about giving a message! It is so simple to pick out those who come out as bias against the best interest of Israel and or Jews...unless of course that person is on our political side of the fence. Then of course it is no longer the right thing to do.

While it is quite easy for us to cover Palestinians as terrorists where is the discussion of how it is possible this administration post 9-11, War on Terror can so completely whitewash a terrorist regime in a frenzy to give them statehood as a reward for terror knowing how wrong it is for all the wrong reasons!? (at the expense of Israel) Yes, we know where other sitting presidents stood on this issue but Bush of all people?

When the US ambassador to Israel compared religious Jews to those of fervently religious in Saudi Arabia there was silence. When he stepped on the very sore subject of telling of all people, Jews whose ancestors have been displaced from time immemorial they can simply move, there was silence.

If this happened with a Democrat appointed to that post there would have perhaps been a firestorm.

However when the topic is about the self-serving idiot puppet Olmert in relation to giving up the ship, everyone jumps on board.

As for almost every mainline Church in America who have divested from Israel there is mainly silence because some President, congressman or senator on our side belongs to that church.

We can not pick and choose which issues are central to the perpetuation of Antisemitism for that is disingenuous to say the least. Whether it is cloaked in politics, long lasting prejudice or right smack in our faces, every aspect is quite relevant.

Those who choose to fight antisemitism and or prejudice against Jews and or Israel must include the entire picture not just the half which suits their agendas no matter how hard it is.

No, the beards and hats have, and do, define your ethnicity.

ha ha ha

Well they can try - they can decide that I don't have brown hair and own a blue car, if they want. For an encore they can stamp their little feet and decide that Tina Turner isn't an African American. It makes no difference.

They don't determine my ethnicity. My ethnicity was determined the moment I came out of a Jewish womb.

It's pretty skewed to think of being Jewish like it was some kind of club with a membership committee...but I can understand the need of some people to determine if they are Jewish. So perhaps the beards and hats and be replaced with genealogists - who can try and establish a connection.

I can also understand the historical role of Judaism's clergy. In days of yore it was the religion that controlled everything from belief in God to agricultural law. But today it's different. If we don't move with the times, then we look as ridiculous as any religious extremists.

The hats and beards can take the role the should have - deciding on religious matters. Deciding if someone can join orthodox sects of Judaism, deciding if meat is kosher etc.

Point being that Neturei Karta does not by any means speak for, or encompass, the thoughts and feelings of most religious Jews; their Hasidic trappings are mainly for the purpose of playing to the non-Jewish community.

But I bet the Satmars who beat them up, still think of them (and not me) as being Jewish. Simply because they believe in God and I don't.

It is nice that you have a certain Jewish chauvinism;

That's because I AM JEWISH!

I have a passing interest in the religious aspects of my Jewish heritage. I am more interested in other cultural aspects - especially the political history and diaspora.

My parents ethnicity passed to me. Their parents passed to them.

The only reason I shun the religious side is that it makes no sense to me at all, and I can't relate to it. If I shut my eyes and said that nonsensical things made sense, I'd be lying to myself.

According to the American Conservative Union, based on his voting record McCain is a conservative. His numbers put him somewhere to the left of the diehard party Conservatives, and in the middle of the Republican party as a whole. Don't take my word for it:

[Link: www.americanthinker.com...]

To which I reply. . .duh. Its pretty clear that during his career McCain has often deviated from core Republican principles, though its is also clear, I believe that his is not fairly described as a liberal. He's been conservative on most issues, moderate on some, and liberal on a few.

The problem is that the "true" (which is to say ideologically pure) conservative that the diehards dream about is currently unelectable, as we saw from the poor numbers for Duncan Hunter and others.

Like many, I don't "love" McCain, but there is such a wide gulf between him and the Dem candidates on core issues of defense and taxes, that pulling the lever for him is an utter no-brainer.

GovWatch: 1999: Don't force women to have illegal operations. (Feb 2008)

That's a talking point straight out of the pro-abortion camp.

Affirmative action OK for specific programs, but no quotas. (Jul 1998)

No, racism is racism. Aff Action is racism. (Fitting, given this thread)

Voted YES on setting aside 10% of highway funds for minorities & women. (Mar 1998)

Uhh... ok. I hadn't heard that one yet.

Be more active in addressing the issue of climate change. (Jan 2008)

Now, remember, he believes in it.

Voted YES on banning drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. (Mar 2005)

There's a big one, considering our dependence on foreign oil.

Support much tougher regulations on emission requirements. (Jan 2008)

MN used to have emisisons testing for cars. Despite their best attempts to prove that it was needed, study after study showed that they didn't reduce pollution at all, so they stopped it.

Get the government out of 'emission requirements'

Ban cheap guns; require safety locks; for gun show checks. (Aug 1999)
Supports ban on certain assault weapons. (Aug 1999)

Of course, like most 'moderates' running on a republican ticket, he's recently changed those views in his speeches.

He also calls for us to close Gitmo. He considers waterboarding to be torture. I give him a BIT of slack on his 'torture' stances given his time in the POW camps, so I don't slam him much on that, just quietly disagree.

He is to the left of lieberman in some of his stances. He is NOT a conservative.

In comparison to Obama or Hillary, yes, he is conservative... but they're socialists. Just about everyone is conservative compared to those two.

He is a liberal republican. He is not much different than a Conservative Democrat. They're both moderates... At a time that we need a strong conservative (Democrat controlled congress) we're toying around with the idea of having socialists and liberals.

And people are going to call voting for a liberal republican a victory? I don't.

Won't Obama be surprised to learn that there are still pockets of Jews out there? Be that as it may this dude and the Barack don't need to worry about the Jew vote since they apprently have the entire vote of AFRICA.

Here's a good bit on why Jews matter in national elections. To sum up, its because they vote in sufficient numbers to potentially tip critical swing states.

As a point of information, there are about 37 million Black Americans (ie African-Americans) , and about 5.3 million Jewish Americans.

Not counting overlap (of a teensy number of Black Jews), that means American Blacks outnumber Jews by roughly 7 to 1.

In the 2004 Presidential race 60% of eligible Black voters came to the polls. . That's about the national average.

Meanwhile, as a matter of practice, about 80% of Jews vote Democrat.

That number may change up or down a little bit (the article quoted actually lists 87% Democrat votes!), but here's the point. Assuming EVERY Jew voted, and assuming that EVERY Jewish voter that otherwise wouldn't have voted for Obama did so in this race based on this numbnuts "argument", that would only generate about another 1.2 million votes for Obama.

With the better part of 15 million eligible Black voters sitting home election day, that leaves literally ten times as many potential black votes as Jewish ones.

So rather than trying to bully the relatively small number of Jews to vote Dem who otherwise would not have, this clown really would be far better off just convincing more Black voters to show up at the polls!

No, the angle here, is, look at the people whom Obama has surrounded himself with!

How many of his closest advisors have had to "quit" because of the antisemetic comments, and beliefs that they hold!

Sheesh, look at who Obama is surrounding himself with!

You're preaching to the choir.

But Obama probably has never met the individual responsible for the post in question. So how are you going to tar him with that sort of association here?

Obama rep: Senator Obama regrets the unwanted posting of derogatory comments on his website. As you may be aware, internet forums lend themselves to posting of inappropriate material by a variety of individuals, and the Obama campaign removed the offending post(s) as soon as we became aware of them

You can push this all you want, it just won't "stick" to Obama. At absolute worst, Obama's campaign might concede they could have done a better job policing their own website, and will promise to do so in the future. They might even actually do it at that point!

As a matter of general principle, every candidate is going to attract some share of enthusiastic nutjobs. But Obama wouldn't be leading the Dem race if he was solely supported by Afrocentric Jew-haters, and I think its probably reasonable to assume that the author of this blog post does NOT represent the "median" Obama supporter.

Consequently if the goal is convince Obama supporters NOT to vote for him based on this post, its not going to work. . .they won't think that post represents themselves or him. If the goal is convince people on the fence that Obama is unsavory, I don't think a bad post on his blog is convincing evidence.

If the goal is to convince JEWS not to vote for Obama, then as you listed above, I think you can put together a far better case for why not than this post!

You keep projecting attitudes onto observant Jews in a manner which shows you have absolutely no knowledge of what they think, or why.

I grew up studying Judaism, believing in Judaism, practicing Judaism and believing in God. Every bloody Sunday I went to shul - learning Hebrew, te Torah and the history. I had a barmitzvah and I continued believing and observing.

In my 20's I started actually THINKING about life (rather than simply following, studying and believing in Judaism). If you start using thought, logic, science & common sense Judaism (and all God religions) start unraveling...until the last thread they have is faith and arguments resting on unprovables.

But if it makes people happy, fine. I'm not getting at you or anyone - I'm just explain my position (since you speculated on it)

Answer:
You are Jewish, and if you have proof that your maternal grandmother was Jewish, no conversion should be asked for.

Perhaps, and this might cause internal conflict, your current mode of thought is not a 'common sense' and 'logical' as you might think.

Just because it moves away from the idea of God does not make it rational, logical, scientific or common sense.

Yet, those attributes are generally what is quickly applied... mostly, I believe, so that one can quickly label one of us 'believers' as an illogical, irrational idiot.

Source, please. My understanding has always been that according to halacha, the children of Jewish women are Jewish, whether or not they convert to another religion. That's why the children of Jewish converts to Christianity who come back to Judaism don't have to convert.

My understanding on this is that if your mother is a Jew, then you are a Jew.

Once you are a Jew, then you are permanently a Jew. You cannot legitimately "convert" to another religion because your status as a Jew isn't dependent on what you believe.

(Its like the Hotel California, you can check out, but you can't leave.)

Now the big (and critical) difference between the Jewish belief on leaving and the Islamic one (for example), is that if you are a Muslim who gives up the faith, and professes to be a Christian, then by Islamic law you are an apostate who deserves the death penalty.

If you are a Jew who converts to Christianity, well. . .then you're just a non-observant Jew! There is no penalty, apart from whatever social stigma you might have from being non-observant (eg in your family or community), and whatever penalty God will extract on you for not following his commandments. (Do you go to Jewish "hell"? I don't know).

But I haven't even MENTIONED my beliefs and you are evaluating them!

And yes - perhaps I'm not deep enough or spiritual enough to truly understand the logic behind...(picks random example from the pile)...the sheitel. God supposedly makes women. He gives them lovely hair, but religious women cover it.

If I was God, I'd get upset about this, but the same happens with Muslim Hijabis and Catholic nuns, so maybe it's a thing for religious chicks to cover their hair. Except in Judaism some women cover their real hair with a nylon-looking wig.

To me, this is like wearing a bathing costume printed with a picture of what you'd look like nude. What's the point.

Now I could study this all day and all night, but it wouldn't make sense until I cut myself off from real world logic and entered a religious mindset. Or took lots of drugs.

And you did present us with this:

If you start using thought, logic, science & common sense Judaism (and all God religions) start unraveling...until the last thread they have is faith and arguments resting on unprovables.

Therefore, it is no mental leap to determine that religious people LACK thought, logic science and common sense, in your opinion.

Therefore, it is no mental leap to determine that your assumption is that if people were only as mentally sufficient as you, then we might see the plague that is religion.

King David seems to have a different view, as shown in the Psalms:

The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good.

Thing is, I also believe that science and religion are fundamentally opposed. Science, in my opinion, believes in a non-miraculous explanation for everything. If an explanation for some phenomenon requires god, than it's not science. Funny thing is though, it is exactly my belief that the two a fundamentally opposed that makes me have respect for the religious point of view. Because, if say you are going to teach science in the public school, and science is fundamentally opposed to religion, than you are in a sense anti-religion, and that is unfair.

re: #650 buzzsawmonkey

Clearly, someone who grew up in what the Brits call "Liberal"--and is here called "Reform"--Judaism.

I went to a reform shul. This was one step of hypocrisy away from Liberal shuls.

here's how it goes in Britain

1. Liberal - services in English, people drive on Saturday and park at the shul. Nobody talks during the service.

2. Reform - services in English with sing-song bits in Hebrew, people park around the corner to the shul, vaguely keep kosher. People whisper during the service. Men & women pray together.

3. United - services mainly in Hebrew with some English, people park a mile away from shul and walk the rest of the journey wearing head coverings - just to show their mates that they keep shabbas, prayer is segregated, people rudely chat during the service.

4. Orthodox - services in Hebrew (not that you'd know because people are doing business deals in loud voices throughout the services). People walk from their houses to shul - no biggie, they live in Golders Green anyway and its only a short distance. They wear head coverings and dull clothes outdoors.

5. Weirdo sects - wear weirdo cloths from 17th Century Poland or somewhere. The guys have peyoses and their poor kids have training piyoses. The girls wear horrible dresses with baggy arms and sheitals. Who knows what happens in their services (which are often held in private houses).

That's the source of your problem right there--growing up steeped in a shallow simulacrum of the real thing, with an apologetic subtext.

meh!

Every shul looks down on its neighbouring traditions as either rude nutters or shallow sellouts.

We thought of the United lot as being rude hypocrites and the Liberals as being Christian converts who might as well not bother.

The Liberals probably thought we were rude. The United probably thought we were in a shallow simulcrum of the real thing and the orthodoxers probably thought the same of them.

I used to have a Lubavitch friend who thought I was a non-Jew because I went to a Reform Shul. NK people would think he was a non-Jew because he was a Zionist.

Whatever you do, there's always someone denying your Jewishness...so fuck it. It's not about them. It's about me.

Mind you, it's tough to be a Jew in Britain; when I lived there as a kid the phrase "act like a Christian"--the equivalent of saying "act like a white man" in the US--was still common.

I was on the receiving end of anti-semitism at school. I was always being blamed for killing Jesus. People would say shit like "where's your funny hat?" etc.

I have never met a religious person who is as literal a fundamentalist as a militant atheist; religious people understand metaphor.

Religious people rely on metaphor to survive in a debating arena. They can't afford to be literal as they would have to explain stuff like God speaking via burning bushes and magically parting seas. They'd have to justify God killing millions of innocent Egyptian babies and punishing a women by turning her into salt.

Let me add that in regard to tackling supernatural belief systems questions atheists are defined as having both the humilty to say "I don't know." and the boldness to say to Believers " You have no more knowledge on this than I do."

To sum up, the atheist is an individual who, when confronted with a multitude of absurd supernatural belief systems, has both the humility to say, "I don't know" and the boldness to say to believers, "As for you, you have no more knowledge than I do." A person who calls himself or herself an agnostic is like an atheist who is somewhat lacking in audacity.

Further up, it looks like they take a pretty hard stand that strays from the 'i don't know' part.

Religious practice is an impediment to the advancement of the human species. Religious faith is a lesion on the intellectual resources of humanity. It is a vestige of the infancy of the human species. We are better off without religion.

Some religions are less harmful (less intolerant, less irrational, less racist, less sexist, less homophobic, etc.) than others. But there is no such thing as a "good" religion. They are all undesirable; i.e. religion is undesirable, because it is a belief system based on faith.

Science and religion should not be taught together any more than history and math should be. That does not mean that science and religion are in any way "fundamentally opposed." They are different disciplines.

My late father, a research physicist, was highly aware of the constant miracles of creation; messing around with atoms will do that. He was also aware that attempting to repress the non-rational aspect of human nature merely corrupted its rational aspects.

Can you at the same time believe in a natural origin of the universe and a supernatural one? Please note that I would maintain that both are a matter of faith.

If the universe had a beginning point, then there had to be something before the beginning, which would mean that the beginning wasn't really the beginning.

I believe this universe will implode and go bang causing the start of the next universe.

I believe this universe grew from a big bang cause by the previous universe imploding.

This has been happening forever and will happen forever.

Nobody started it, because he would have needed an environment to exist it, to create it. Nobody controls it because you can't be outside of everything.

No, it is a religion, atheists just, for the most part, dispise religion enough to belief otherwise.

I am an agnostic Jew. I was raised Conservative in Toronto (which is actually like Orthodox in some U.S. cities) and I went to Shul on average five times per week and prayed at home and laid tefillin when I didn't go to shul. I did this for many years. That is where I come from.
IMO even Ultra Orthodox Judaism is usually prepared to assimilate and accommodate scientifically proven facts (unlike Islam). That to me was always the genius of the Torah's liberal use of metaphor and symbolism - it left plenty of wiggle room on non-essential matters.
In any case, to me the essence of religion is to provide answers to the ultimate philosophical and ethical questions (Why are we here? How did we get here? Does it all end at the grave? What is good and evil? How shoudl we treat each other? etc.) to which science has to date provided no definitive answers. In that sense I think that Judaism and science are not incompatible.
My own uncertainty as to the existence of God is my own way of synthesizing science and religion.

You're confusing Atheism with Agnosticism

Atheism is definite. It means "Not believing in God". That's all it means.

An atheist may have other beliefs that explain life, but that's not part of atheism.

You can get religions, beliefs and ideologies that deny God, but atheism only describes not believing in God.

Atheism is about the only thing I have in common with a Marxist. But the fact that we're both Atheists, doesn't make me a Marxist and doesn't make him share my other beliefs outside of atheism.

I don't think they're incompatable. I do think that people use science to try and 'prove' the existance or nonexistance of God (or, more accurately say "You can't prove God, therefore He doesn't exist, and that's science!"), which I think is a illogical way to apply science.

No, it is a religion, atheists just, for the most part, dispise religion enough to belief otherwise.

Saying that Atheists believe in evolution is like saying that "people who hate football" love baseball.

Some might love baseball. Some football haters may hate baseball, too. Perhaps hating football implies hatred all sports. Or maybe just team sports. Perhaps some have no strong feelings about any sports other than football.

We don't know. And the reason we don't know is that "football hater" doesn't detail anything other than someone's dislike of football.

Similarly, the term atheist just means "someone who doesn't believe in God". Beyond that, we don't know. They could believe in any number of explanations, or no explanations. They may not care at all.

We don't know, because atheism doesn't detail any beliefs.

It can't be a religion because aside from no beliefs it has no doctrines or practices.

I go to my atheist church and say my atheist prayers, just as a football hater doesn't go to n anti-football stadium and cheer on professional football haters.

There is some debate as to whether football haters hate American football or international football.

And to be honest, I'm not entirely sure if an atheist is someone who just doesn't believe in the Judeo Christian God.

Maybe Wiccans, Buddhists and Hindus are atheists. Perhaps not believing in pantheons of Gods and natural spirits is also covered by atheism.

why did something need to start it?

why can't everything start and end and start again in infinity?

if you insist on a starting point, then who created God?

who created whatever created God?

and why?

Life just exists. From what we can observe it goes through phases. It starts, grows, declines and dies. Right now it's spring time and despite the global cooling, the new leaves are on the trees. Eventually they'll grown, then turn brown and drop off before growing again next Spring.

Please understand, these vague stabs at life's meaning aren't a manifestation of an atheist belief system!

In that case, kindly explain to me just what your problem is with the central point of my discussion, to wit: that anyone claiming a Jewish "ethnic identity" must acknowledge that such an "identity" owes its existence to the operation of religious laws, and their observance--whether the person claiming that "identity" believes in Judaism, observes its mandates, or not.

I do not have a problem with that.

I, of course, was joking--because it doesn't solve any problems. You then have the problem of who created the colonizers, or how they were created. And you run into the problem of believing, or not, the unknown creation story of our space alien forebears.

Buzzsawmonkey - please carefully read:

In the beginning the Universe was created. This had made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Many races believe that it was created by some sort of god, though the Jatravartid people of Viltvodle Six believe that the entire universe was in fact sneezed out the nose of a being called the Great Green Arkleseizure.

The Jatravartids, who live in perpetual fear of the time they call the Coming of the Great White Handkerchief, are small blue creatures with more than fifty arms each, who are therefore unique in being the only race in history to have invented aerosol deodorant before the wheel.

However, the Great Green Arkleseizure Theory is not widely excepted outside Viltvodle Six and so, the Universe being the puzzling place that it is, other explanations are constantly being sought.

For instance, a race of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings once built themselves a gigantic supercomputer called Deep Thought to calculate once and for all the Answer to the Ultimate Question of life, the Universe and Everything.

For seven and a half million years, Deep Thought computed and calculated, and in the end announced that the answer was in fact Forty-two-and so another, even bigger, computer had to be built to find out what the actual question was.

And this computer, which was called Earth, was so large that it was frequently mistaken for a planet-especially by the strange ape-like beings who roamed its surface, totally unaware that they were simply part of a gigantic computer program."

well that's sorted out then

And even if it weren't, what's the problem? The purpose of the Biblical creation story is not to tell us how to grow amino acids in a Petri dish--or how they might have come to exist in tidal pools. It is to give us a moral understanding of our place in the universe, which is something science does not address.

I have no problem with using religion a a moral guide and don't see any conflict with science there. And I guess if your going to interpret religion in that way, I can see why you wouldn't think there was a conflict with science. But I still maintain that there is a fundamental conflict. Science (imho, however I do have a science background, for what it's worth) must maintains a natural cause for all phenomena, and that is inherently anti-religious. Maybe our definitions of science (I mean as a philosophy, not as a practice) differ.

If so, it may also be covered by atheism

Well, one of the charges leveled at early Christians by the pagan Romans was that of atheism.

But since you still haven't explained what started "everything," what started the implosion/explosion that you choose to believe in, where all this matter came from, etc., etc., etc., you haven't solved anything. You haven't explained anything.

You've taken the chute, or the ladder--your choice--right back to the Master of the Universe.

Who created god? : )

re: #758 buzzsawmonkey

I, of course, never said it did. I merely pointed out that

1) Even if a Jew "rejects religion," their "Jewish identity" still exists solely because of the religion they rejected--because it was that, and that alone, as adhered to by their forebears, that makes them a Jew in the first place; and

2) If that Jew "rejects religion," s/he is still confronted with the dilemma of what their "identity as a Jew" consists of--aside from a religio-genetic accident of birth--since the religion, which again is responsible for having created and preserved "Jewish identity" up to the point where the person inherited it, is at the core of Jewish culture too. You reject the religion, you reject the culture--what does the "identity" consist of?

I don't buy your line about Jewish identity solely existing because of the religion. The culture - the whole gestalt of being Jewish is much wider than just the religion. The religion is, undeniably part of it (for many), but taken alone religion is a philosophy and ritualistic practice based on God. Not a national, cultural or ethnic entity of itself.

No, it is a philosophical difference, which apparently escapes you.

the philosphical difference doesn't escape me at all - which is why I question whether "Natural Forces" are covered by atheism!

No. Crowds used to yell "Away with the atheists!" Of course, they also thought that Christians regularly committed incest (all that talk about brother love) and cannibalism.

re: #750 uptight

Atheists may believe in the supernatural

Atheists may not believe in the supernatural

Atheists may be fat

Atheists may be thin

Atheists may prefer Pepsi to Coke

The only thing we bleeding well know about atheists is that they don't believe in God.

That's all atheism means.

got it?

That would be true if you define atheism to mean simply a disbelief in a single god or deity, i.e. the opposite of a theist. However, the definition of the word has evolved (had to throw that word in here just because) to encompass anyone that does not believe in the supernatural or supreme beings of any kind whether it is a single god, many gods or supernatural forces. Therefore, an atheist in the current, most conventional usage of the word is not merely one that does not believe in the Judeo-Christian God. This makes it a distinct group unto itself seperate from other religions and can also be argued to be a religious ideology as well.

780 uptight  Wed, Apr 9, 2008 3:58:18pm

Wikipedia says that atheism denies non-Judeo Christian patheons as well and the Judeo Christian God.

So there you go. If Wikipedia says it, it must be true /sarc

That still leaves Buddhism and Marxism and no ism at all (a la Chris Hitchens).

Frankly lizards. If Hitch believes it (or doesn't, for that matter), then why are we arguing?

God night!

I think there is an identity beyond the religion, just like any other ethnicity. And let's not forget the original topic of this (meaning Charle's) post and how that affects identity. Sorry, I don't have time to elaborate now, that would open up a whole new discussion that I don't have time for. I do see your point though, although I'm still not sure if your saying rejecting the religion is rejecting your identity.

I REALLY have to go now. Thanks for the conversation.

However, if Jews betray Obama and he loses, Africans worldwide would consider it a betrayal to the whole African people and will never forgive world Jewry.

Never forgive world Jewry? You Africans should be on your knees begging the collective world's forgiveness for exporting your mediocre, barbaric, brutal, backwards, underachieving, uneducated third-world lifestyle to our homes.

And if you're sincere, G-Khan, I'll refrain from calling you a "MONKEY!"

These are pretend Africans. Like Wright and Farrakan. Real ones don't have time for this nonsense. Save the bile for the phonys who live in million dollar homes in nice neighborhoods in Suburban America.

Guess no one has asked J. Wright how many schools could he have built in Africa for African children who don't have any schools, with that chunk of money he got for a huge mansion for himself.

"By supporting Obama to win, they would cure America of Clintonitis and thereby be able to find a permanent solution to the Arab-Jewish problem in the Middle East.
Jews must support Obama or face grave consequences. You cannot afford not to."

I know I am coming to this thread late, but I wanted to relate a story to you Lizards which I think you will find interesting and eye opening.

I am Jewish and live in Minneapolis. One day I'm riding the stationary bike at the club and am sitting next to a Jewish guy I know casually-just from the club. Hillary happened to be on the overhead TV and I commented to him that I absolutely loved her the highlights in her hair. (just sarcastic dribble on my part)

My Jewish comrade says " Hey, I'm an Obama man-how about you?"

I looked at him, and asked him point blank how he could support a Jew hater-and then rattled off anti Israel bums and Obama foreign advisor's like Zbigniew Brzezinski, Samantha Powers, General Jew Hater Mcpeak-and most importantly- his 20 year relationship with Clergyman Wright.

He tsk tsked the WRIGHT relationship away and said he knew Brzezinski wasn't a friend of the Jews-and claimed ignorance of the other two bums advising Obama on foreign policy. I asked him if he voted for Keith Ellison-and of course he did.

End of discussion.

Of course he was ignorant of Obama's Israel/Mideast advisor's. He could care less about his brothers and sisters in Israel.

This is where today's majority of Jews in America stand. Even with evidence that the man they support is anti Israel-Anti Zionist and therefore anti-Jewish-they are with him.

The vast majority of American Jews are non observant-and have no connection to their religious heritage or eretz Israel. To me, they are not even Jewish...yet, these dummies burn at 425 degrees.

That's O.K...Obama has fresh ideas.

not at all a problem. in more orthodox circles, when you have to "prove up" your matrilineal claim to "jewish descent," a conversion in any part of the chain at the very least renders it suspect, and depending on the beit din, renders it completely void.

Let me add that in regard to tackling supernatural belief systems questions atheists are defined as having both the humilty to say "I don't know." and the boldness to say to Believers " You have no more knowledge on this than I do."

I am not so sure you qualify as an atheist given this definition. No offense.

You're confusing Atheism with Agnosticism

Boy.

Anyone can post anything anywhere. Someone could upload Mein Kampf to a website for cookie recipes. Someone could stick a racist rant to the side of the Washington Monument.

What on earth does any of that prove or even suggest? Jeez.

I see what you're implying, but "That didn’t take long — the page has now been removed" tends to belie it, don't you think?

There's good stuff on this blog sometimes, but putting up an item like this as some kind of news item and currying the kind of reaction that you know you're going to get from it rather discredits the place a bit, I think.

I look forward to reading better stuff. All the best.

A candidate for president should be able to manage a web site. That crap was posted for more than a month, and they've stated that they approve the accounts.

It "didn't take long" after some blogs posted about it -- but it stayed public for a month before that.

Nice try, though.

"A candidate for president should be able to manage a web site."?

Are folks ticked off because the candidate can't manage a website or because they think that he or his campaign quietly believes that the continent of Africa is plotting revenge against world Jewry?

Because if that post was up on the site for a month that's either 1) because nobody noticed, or 2) because the person or people in the campaign responsible for removing lunatic posts read it and agreed with the notion that Africa was plotting revenge against world Jewry.

So, yeah, unless the latter proposition seems sensible to you (it sure doesn't to me!) this is a pretty silly news item to get all exercised about.

This blog often has good stuff on it, and I think this kind of thing has the effect of casting the sensible posts in a bit of a ridiculous light.
