arab propaganda swallowed whole

Fri, Jun 21, 2002 at 10:51:38 am PDT

British politician Lynne Jones recently published on her web site an ugly bit of Arab propaganda alleging torture, rape, and indiscriminate murder by the IDF in Bethlehem. When she was criticized for giving credence to this obvious lie (does she really think IDF soldiers could rape “more than 86” women in Bethlehem and keep it secret, in a country where almost everyone, Israeli and Palestinian alike, has cell phones? where the international press is drooling in eagerness to catch the IDF doing something/anything wrong?), she defended publishing it, essentially saying it was up to her critics to prove the Israelis’ innocence:

As you are aware, I have written to Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to ask them to investigate the report and I have been explicit that the report has not been authenticated and I consider this an acceptable way to raise my concern about this information.

If you have evidence to show that this report is ‘propaganda’ I should be grateful if you could send this to me.

Because I’ve been trudging through the swill known as Arab media for a while now, this “letter from a Palestinian” isn’t new to me. Not at all. The Arabs have been trying to peddle it to gullible Westerners ever since Operation Defensive Shield began. Its first appearance, to my knowledge, was in the always-despicable ArabNews. And the version published by Jones differs in several significant details from the original, which was credited by ArabNews to “a reader.”

I wonder if Lynne Jones would consider this to be evidence of propaganda.

(By the way, even though I did remember seeing it before, I should point out that it took me all of 3 minutes to find the ArabNews article on the web. What does it say about Jones that she can’t even be bothered to Google this story before assuming it was accurate?)

She's a politician. She's likely never heard of google, let alone used it to do her own research.

Chances are, she saw a chance to demonstrate her dedication to the "anti-Zionist" cause, and took it. She's not really concerned with the truth, or the evidence.

Remember -- refutation means nothing with propaganda. The Herold numbers are still being cited, reporters still mention the "Jenin Massacre", and we've seen citations of that bogus "free fire zone" story weeks after the supposed source blew it out of the water. Heck, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" have hung around for over a century, despite being debunked.

"she defended publishing it, essentially saying it was up to her critics to prove the Israelis’ innocence"

Does innocent until proven guilty mean anything to this women?

Well, but these are Jews.

What the Jenin massacre story makes clear is that palestinian society -- bent as it is on destroying Israel -- hardly has qualms about manufacturing false claims of atrocities.

After the charade of Jenin, the idea that a story of this sort can be accorded anything other than a presumption of falsity reflects nothing but the burning desire to find something for which to blame Israel.

For precisely this reason, it's awfully significant that Jones's defense page speaks as if we still don't know what really happened in Jenin, when in fact Human Rights Watch concluded, and the pals eventually admitted, that the pal death toll in Jenin was under 60, the overwhelming majority of whom were combatants.

And remember, the date of this supposed cry for help is April 5th, a day before (if I'm correct) the stand-off at the Church of the Nativity begun. With all the foreign journalists and 'peace activists' in Bethlehem at the time, why were none of them informed of this by the victims and their relatives?

Kevin in Dallas,

I have posted a response to you in the previous thread where you mistook me for a "troll."

Kevin -- April 5th on the Arab News site. In Jones's version (I love how her page calls this email "testimony"), it's April 8th -- putting it in the midst of the Nativity standoff, when the place was absolutely crawling with print and TV journalists from around the world.

AG - see my response in previous thread. Kevin

I thought the "email testimony" phrase was great too.

FBI Issues Warning: Terrorists could attack ANYONE at ANYTIME using ANY MEANS available

WASHINGTOON -- The FBI just released a warning based on uncolaborated information that alQuada could attack anyone at anytime using any means possible.

"We have information that alQuada might be targeting every single man, woman and child in America," says an FBI source wishing to remain anonymous. "As if that is not enough, they could attack at any moment and might use whatever means is easiest."

Senator All Abba (Idiot NH) says he will introduce a bill to require the FBI to assign a private 24/7 bodyguard to every person in the homeland. "If it saves even one child, it will be worth the expense!"

14 Maarten Schenk  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 11:09:47am

Well, I have an anonymous testimony here too, from 'a Britton': "Lynne Jones has killed twelve dozen babies and a kitten, dissolved them in acid and flushed the remains. She is a murderer and a terrorist".
Now it's up to her to prove it is not true, and as long as she fails to do so conclusively, it must therefor be true...

There are very strict libel laws in Britain, Mr. Hartsock, and you could very well be convicted. It is well-established fact that you get change back from the $5.

Europeans have never been found guilty of being intelligent or having any positive track record of being civilized like they pretend to be.

When they successfully purged all of Europe of Jews who were citizens of all their countries their ability to question anyone else until they prove themselves better went out the window.

There are no jews left in Euorpe to defend Israel agaisnt the reviled hate spewed from these 'civilized' countries in Europe.

Who's own history from the get go has been one of murder, perseucition, intimidation, exile, forced conversion etc... of the smallest religious minority on earth.

There has never been one decade of peacefull co-existence/attitude towards the jewish people from Europe since their exile from Israel 3,000 years ago.

Goes to show that calling oneself 'civilized' does not necessarilly bear itself out as truth.

17 Evan_the_Bored  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 11:50:22am

Someone send this 'ho an "email testimony" claiming that pigs can fly, or that the earth is flat - I'm sure she'll dig into that!

18 Michael Glazer  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 11:59:53am

India is a better ally than all of europe.

America, Israel, India...

Any other righteous countries left on Earth?

19 Charles  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 12:03:53pm

Glazer: please. That message (the one I just deleted) was way over the line. Think before you post.

20 Michael Glazer  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 12:07:09pm

Ok Charles, how about this any British bloggers out there who support Israel lets organize a 24 hour protest outside her office holding signs saying she is a 'terrorist' support a 'jew killer support' etc...

Shame here into beign honest, we need a 24 hour protest and spotlight on this dumb broad

Ms. Jones is obviously highly intelligent and insightful. After all, she is merely asking for the impossible - that someone prove a negative.

How can anyone prove that 500 Palestinian women were NOT raped, much less a mere 86 or so?

Therefore, using her obvious insight, she has taken a position that can not be attacked, unless the attacker does the impossible.

Oops, maybe that is not it. Maybe she is an idiot and does not understand whereof she speaks.

22 Evan_the_Bored  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 2:28:48pm

Did anyone ever get a look at another hoax email - this one was an alleged "confession" made by Ariel Sharon in the 50's, saying how much he desired to kill and torture Palestinians (and how he urges other Israelis to do the same) and rape Arab women (because they are "slaves" to Jewish men").

I'm sure it was floating around the net sometime during the Jenin operation. It was posted around Auckland University (by leftist students) as a piece of "evidence" of Israeli "genocide" of Palestinians.

Fucking bastards. People like Ms. Jones are beyond contempt.

23 Joe Stocker  Fri, Jun 21, 2002 3:06:23pm

Michael Glazer,

I understand your contempt for the EUnuchs but a huge number of Europeans (not just the British) are backing both Israel and the US.

If America had made it through to the World Cup finals you would have seen half of this continent shouting "USA, USA".

Imagine Europe as one great big college campus. Officially we hate ourselves and offer up our self-hatred as a sign of our own superiority but unofficially we know damn well who the good guys are.

The Jones' story, coming on the heels of Ms Blair and Ted Turner, not to mention the french comment re "this little shitty country", should make us consider the thesis that s the pro-Israeli PR machine is in deep, deep trouble.

I have tried to impress upon the PR people in the Israeli embassy in Ottawa that this is the case but I've had little acceptance of this view.

If you agree with me, consider what can be done. I believe that it's a job for first rate professionals. I believe that the Israeli gov. should be induced to hire such a group of pros to do the job (I have no vested interest in PR companies - none).

Should we organize a letter campaign? Should those among us who have connections and clout talk to the AIPAC or the reps of the Israeli gov?

We must get them to move before it is way too late. Ms Blair's comments don't come out of vacuum!

If you prefer, contact me by e-mail.

I followed a link on Ms. Jones' site, and look what I arrived at:

It runs deeper...
