At the extreme risk of being way too repetitive...and at the risk of offending some, I will post this one more time. (I swear Charles, no more after this, I don't want to be considered another Mikey Grazer)
This is something I would like ALL Americans to remember...
If you do a per capita study on the number of Israeli citizens killed compared to the number of the American populace...it would translate into 20,270 American citizens murdered since the newest Intifada began.*
*According to the Howard Fienberg article posted by Charles on Tuesday July 30, 2002...433 Israeli citizens (non-combatants) have been killed since the current Intifada began. That is .0000729 percent of the total Israeli population.** .0000729 of the population of the USA** is 20,270.4924249. Please feel free to "fact check my ass" on the math.
**Population numbers from HRW.com.

What is it with the palestinians and large picture frames at protests/celebrations?
I have never seen that anywhere outside the Arab world.
Maybe everytime an Arab dies I will start holding up my framed artwork of dogs playing pool and velvet elvis.

3 Americans among the 8 murdered by the arab savages.
2 french, 2 british, and 1 Israeli.
12 seriously maimed another 90 people wounded.
Now the butcheres are threatening to kill more people.
The arab terrorists said 'Jews to now leave Israel.'

Peace will only come with a war based resolution.
The fact that there are so many terrrorists so close to Israel that thrive is a based mark for the Israeli Armies capabilities.

We know of an ancient radiation
That haunts dismembered constellations,
A faintly glimmering radio station.
While Frank Sinatra sings Stormy Weather,
The flies and spiders get along together,
Cobwebs fall on an old skipping record.
I've had that in my head all day, and nobody is getting along together.

If Ariel Sharon is waiting for the US to start the war with Iraq before he starts the serious war with Arafat, then Michael Ledeen is absolutely correct. Faster, Please! Too many people are dying to continue playing political games.

Beautiful. Wonderful way to get the kids out of the house, get some fresh air, scream approval for the butchery of Isreali Jewish kids, oops, I mean "oppressors". Or Americans, or Israeli Arabs, or Korean exchange students or whoever you killed today - details, details. V for "victory", eh, guys? Big victory today. Job very well fucking done. Hooray for Hamas. Be sure to hold a big parade for those brave martyrs when you are digging yourselves out of the rubble in the neighborhoods where Hamas bravely hides. Remember to thank them for that great victory. Kids cheering today, dead in the streets tomorrow. Fucking wonderful.
I feel sick.

Is it any wonder Arafat is celebrating with a glass of champagne?
The thing is he was born in Egypt. A Muslim SOB I must pressume. How come then he is drinking? Muslims cannot drink nor can they renounce their faith. Perhaps the Mossad should deliver him to the Saudis to have him flogged and beheaded, kefiya and all.

"I feel sick."
I was watching a program on History Channel today about the capture of Saipan, and I can't help but wonder if humans can be that stupid... Either they are or there is no hope left for the whole lot. Anyway, you should bear in mind that these are the same people who rejoiced in the wake of 9/11, so it actually should come as no surpirse. They shouldn't be surprised next time something hits them from out of the blue for that matter.

nice post Charles - As an engineer I work with Arabs, Persians, Palestinians, et al, the overwhelming majority of whom I respect as friends, coworkers,...yada yada (don't want to get into "Some of my best friends are...") but I've gotta say my 'opinion of/sympathy level for' the palestinians went into the cellar when I saw that 'woman' ululating over, an sweets distributed to celebrating kids on 9/11...Now I don't understand how Sharon restrains himself: my first target would be Yassin with a big-ass bang, then the 2nd in line, then the third...

When you consider the number of nations that profess some degree of "solidarity" with the Palestinians, and you consider the vast wealth commanded by those nations --- not to mention the largesse that the U.S. is prepared to dish out --- why don't these kids have some kind of future that includes a real education and reasonable economic opportunity?
Because they're TOOLS, that's why. The Lords of Jihad don't want happy, peaceful, well-fed Palestinians, they want dead ones --- as Arafat so helpfully put it: "Martyrs, martyrs, martyrs by the millions!"
So they drench them in hatred and hopelessness until they're old enough to sacrifice, in the sacred cause of murdering as many Jews as possible. What could be sadder than this? The fact that the safe and well-fed idiots of this world stand in utter awe of this disgusting process, as if it were the most noble and beautiful thing they ever beheld.

This is response to post #1 above.
The 433 figure is from, I think, June. It doesn't include the civilians killed since then, including the ones murdered today. So the US equivalent is actually greater than the 20,270 you calculated.
I just watched the president of the university's student body being interviewed by Ashleigh Banfield's double on MSNBC, and I feel like shit now.

It's in AraRat's best interest to keep these people poor and oppressed. The poor ignorant masses are so much easier to control. Many millions of dollars in aid has been poured into Palestine, so how come the Palestinian people are so poor and hopeless? Someone better do some serious digging into the pockets of AraRat and Hamas.

Israel is at war. Frankly, there is even no need to fight these cosmic aliens (they look like humans but they are not) - just has to starve them. No money, no food, no water, no electricity, no gas, no medical supplies, no work in Israel. Total blockade. It will take some time but it will work. After all, it has been fifty-four years of all-muslim boycott (well, with a few exceptions). Let almighty and merciful allah help them.

Talk about pigeon holing someone for a comment they made. Then again that's just what American media does all the time. "Mr. Clinton, was your cock royally sucked or wasn't it?" (That went on for what... a year and 1/2?)
Look Chomsky is not my main man. In fact I have no main man. Sorry, but I don't idolize people, kowtow to religion, or political ideology. Time on this planet is much too short for that bullshit. One thing I do aim for (with great difficulty in this crazy world) is "enlightenment". Yes, I thought "Manufacturing Consent" (yes, I'll say it again for the 4th time) was a brilliant documentary. That fact that mainstream media is so fucking lame, is why blogs like this one exist. People are smarter than governments and media give them credit for.
And if I ever did have a "main man" it would probably be Jimi Hendrix. That man said more with his guitar, lyrics and music than a million blogs could ever say. "If 6 turned out to be 9, I don't mind."

I think you'll find the celebration was for the servicemen who returned alive - and the dead were mourned appropriately. A celebration of life rather than death as it were.

Omar #32,
It's not that its always different when it's us. It's that we don't celebrate the death of our enemies. In the US, we don't wish very Iraqi to be killed or enslaved.
In Israel, they don't wish every Palestinian to be killed or enslaved.
In the PA, they wish that every Israeli was killed or enslaved (well, they would call it dhimmi-tude, which is close enough).

Last week, Israel struck at a legitimate military target, killing the leader of Hamas, Sheikh Shehadeh. Some innocent Palestinian civilians were killed in the bombing attack, even though they were not the targets of the attack. Not only was there international condemnation of the act, but there was controversy in Israel itself over the loss of innocent Palestinian civilian lives, and members of the Israeli government apologized for them.
This week, a Palestinian terrorist leaves a bomb in a crowded university cafeteria in Israel, which kills seven people and injures scores of others. This was not an attack on a military target; it was a massacre of innocent civilians. There is no controversy among the Palestinians. Quite to the contrary, thousands of them take to the streets and celebrate in a disgusting manner, as if they had just won the World Cup.
The differences between Israeli and Palestinian culture could not be drawn more starkly than by comparing they way that they reacted in each of these incidents. Israelis have consciences and don't want to see innocents suffer, no matter how evil their leaders may be. Palestinians do not appear to even know what a conscience IS (This may be a concept foreign to Islam), and celebrate the deaths of innocents.
This is why I am 100% behind Israel in this conflict, and why I will shed no tears when the Palestinians suffer the punishment that their evil acts are going to bring down on their heads. If that means they all get transferred across the Jordan and into the Sinai, that's fine with me.

Kids don't understand politics. Kids listen to what their elders tell them and are not responsible for their actions. These kids are not independent moral agents. What their elders (parents, relatives, neighbors, teachers...) are doing to them is unconscionable, and their elders should be severely punished for it.
Have you noticed that the suicide bombers are getting younger and younger? 16, 17, 18 years old. That tells me something; it tells me that the terrorists are scraping the bottom of the barrel, manipulating those who are still young enough to be single-mindedly and unquestioningly devoted to a cause and who are willing to die for it.
It also tells me that all of the careful training, both physical and psychological, which allegedly used to go into creating a suicide bomber have gone by the wayside. They are taking anyone they can get, even those who might perhaps think better of what they're doing if they were ever given the chance to.
I can just see the scenario: a teenager filled with the fury of self-righteous "everything is black and white" adolescence goes rushing to the local terrorist representative filled with zeal to "do something for the cause." Before s/he knows it, s/he is on his/her way strapped with explosives and a "companion" whose job is to see to it that s/he doesn't back out.
This is a tragedy of epic proportions. An entire generation has been irreversibly poisoned by hatred and the celebration of death and killing. This is another crime to be added to the many crimes perpetrated by the terrorists. This is no different from the use of child warriors by African rebels.
I hate the terrorists, I hate Arafat, I hate the hateful Palestinian adults, I hate the Islamofascist governments and religious "leaders" of the Arab world, but I can't hate these children who are nothing but pawns in someone else's deadly game. They don't get to have a childhood; they remind me of kids in the ghettos of NY who fully expect to die and who spend all kinds of time deciding on the details for their own funerals.
The adults who are responsible for turning these children into mindless hate machines should be executed for the murder of these children's souls.

No, I feel bad about the innocent lives they may someday take with them. The top priority is to prevent them from harming anyone else.
I feel sorry for them, but I can clearly see the different Palestinian organisations capitalizing on this hatred a few years from now unless something is done to end this dreadful situation.

Does anybody remember that open letter by Palestinian liberals and intellectuals that came out about two months ago? That at least some cited as evidence that the Palestinian people were, in fact, all horrified by the bombing and wanted it to end? (You remember, the one that also said that this was a bad tactic because it would cost the Palestinians public support.)
I'd just like to hear from the folks who cited that letter at the time about how they explain the crowds cheering the Hebrew University murders.
Are the intellectuals not representative of the people, and therefore can be ignored?
Are the intellectuals simply outnumbered by the people? In which case the majority view would seem to be a celebratory one, when it comes to perpetrating murder.
Or were the intellectuals simply lying?
Just curious...
| 50 | andrea Thu, Aug 1, 2002 10:24:33pm |
I do think it's a shame that you don't really pity these children because they have no chance to be normal. Yes, if left unchecked, they are most likely to go blow themselves up in a public place, and that is incomprehensibly inhumane that kids should grow up like that.
What I feel bad about is that they have no hope, not in the 'we're helpless and angry so we go perpetrate violence' way, but in the 'indoctrinated to the point of no return' way.
| 51 | Andrew Lazarus Fri, Aug 2, 2002 9:39:23am |
I don't believe I ever suggested that the Palestinian intellectuals' opposition to suicide bombing (and their firm condemnation of the Sinatra bombing) were evidence that ALL Palestinians OPPOSE the bombings. I think it IS evidence that NOT ALL Palestinians SUPPORT the bombings.
I think that's still true. How do you suggest we encourage their point of view? If I don't dare say what's the majority view, I can say that the intellectual view is not irrelevant.
52![]() |
Ariel Fri, Aug 2, 2002 10:28:10am |
Dean #49,
The intellectuals don't oppose suicide bombings. They oppose the fallout from suicide bombings. They made this clear in interviews, by saying:
* suicide bombings on the other side of the Green Line are OK
* suicide bombings don't further the national interest (not that they're bad, morally wrong, or any such thing)
**
Andrew #51,
It is evidence that some Arabs oppose the fallout from suicide bombings.
And the majority view is for suicide bombings. The numbers since the stupifada began might be 60-80% in favor.
