Peace Creeps Plan Manhattan Die-In

Wed, Mar 26, 2003 at 10:17:31 am PST

If Iraqi terror cells are in this country planning an attack in response to the Iraq War, their most tempting target would have to be Manhattan; the symbolic value of striking the US again in our center of power makes the jihadis salivate.

And at this most dangerous time, infantile, selfish “peace activists” backed by Communists and radical Islamists are planning massive disruptions in Manhattan tomorrow, including a “die-in” intended to shut down Rockefeller Center.

2 jgold  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:22:14am

What a bunch of losers!!! Our troops are being executed in Iraq and they want to protest Media, oil, etc. I swear these people are truly sick in the head.
My question is why re-inact a die-in while the real thing is so much better for our country ?

3 peg  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:23:39am

Gee. And I thought we had alreadyhad a "die-in" in Manhattan on September 11.

I'm all for free speech. I support the right of those who oppose the war in Iraq to express themselves - no matter how wrong-headed I believe their ideas to be.

But - from Michael Moore on down (or should I say up?) - decent, intelligent and lucid methods of expressions are available. And methods of expressing loathing and venom are available.

Too bad that so many choose the latter.

4 Robert Crawford  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:23:42am

Please, tell me they're really going to die, not just smear themselves with stage blood and lie down. 'Cause if they really die for their beliefs, I'll be impressed.

It won't change my mind, but I'll be impressed.

5 lawhawk  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:24:01am

Well, we've got our first idiotarians arrested from trying to close down 5th Avenue. Onlookers jeered and booed the protestors:

[Link: 1010wins.com...]

Then, onlookers cheered while the protestors were hauled away by the NYPD - the same NYPD that was part of a huge contingent looking for victims of 9/11 at the WTC.

The chant the protestors were singing today:
Occupation is a Crime, Free Iraq and Palestine.

Only thing they have in common - neither the Iraqis nor Palestinians ever miss the opportunity to miss an opportunity. Of course, freeing Iraq is precisely what the US is trying to do - the Palestinians could simply try and not kill Israelis and they'd be halfway to getting a state by now.

8 Sarah eg.  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:26:23am

A die-in is when you sit in the middle of the road, douse yourself in gasoline and light a match.

I think the descriptive term they're looking for is "chalk-in"

9 Elizabeth  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:26:46am

What the flaming hell is a "die-in"? Is there no stupidity these spoiled brats will not use as an attention-getting device? I say arrest them all, throw them in jail for six months for fomenting unrest during wartime and feed them bread and water the whole time.

"Bread and water." I love it. A big complaint from among the 1,000 arrested in SF was that the "sandwiches weren't that good." What a world we live in.

Only a few posters so far, but I've already been beaten to the punch. But, I'll echo my sentiments all the same.

The saddest thing about this "die-in" is that the participants won't really die. What can you do?
War is hell.....

17 Veronica  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:30:20am

I can't believe this. Leaving aside (far aside) their views on the war, it is extraordinarily irresponsible to disrupt Manhattan at this time. We have extra police patrols trying to keep an eye on the city, and now they have to waste their time policing these yahoos.

Al Queda and Sadam have both promised to take "rataliatory" action against us if we invaded Iraq. By consuming police resources that could be better used in our battle against terrorism, these people are helping the terrorists.

32 Spunky MG  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 8:45:47am

It's been obvious for sometime now that "peace" protests are actually little more than a kind of public therapy for people with serious mental problems:

Paranoia: The Government is run by a cabal of oil companies. The FBI is spying on me through optical cable in my dental floss. The CIA was behind 9-11

Dementia: The media is right-wing. The rest of the world is ruled by France. Baked hippies can stop bulldozers with their bare hands.

Schizophrenia: Protesting that the government has robbed them of their right to protest. We can't afford this war and we should spend the money on health care instead.

Delusional Disorder: They look at Bush and see Hitler.

Alzheimer's Disease: They think it's still 1968

Antisocial Personality Disorder: They think they can win allies and influence public opinion by calling opponents fascists and vomiting in public

"Peace" Protestors Block Ambulances

One group of war protestors in Washington isn't so concerned about saving lives after all.
Matt Braynard was traversing city streets Friday afternoon when he observed a group protesting in the middle of 14th and K streets NW, one of the busiest intersections in Washington.
"At the front of the group of cars that were obstructed was an ambulance with sirens on full volume," Mr. Braynard reveals. "Fortunately, a group of police on bikes that [outnumbered] protesters quickly emerged and pushed the protesters aside.
"So this is what the protestors have resorted to," he says, "blocking ambulances at city intersections."

It's not too hard to figure out how these idiots can be encouraged. Some anchor on MSNBC just reported that the coalition was "suffering another setback after already being bogged down" because an estimated 70-100 Iraqi armored vehicles are moving out of Basrah.

Lest we forget, in a single engagment the 1st Armored destroyed 120 Iraqi T-72s in less than two minutes in '91 without taking a single casualty. We WANT to see Iraqi armored vehicles on the roads and in the open because that's where we can kill them quickly.
We WANT to see the Republican Guard moving South from Bagdhad (if those reports are true) for the same reason.

Jeez. Are there only history-deficit idiots graduating from communications schools?

52 BigBad  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 9:04:31am

I posted about this on another thread this morning. I witnessed the whole thing from 19 floors above the scene in my office on 5th ave.

"I just saw a big Pro-Rachel Corrie protest that blocked all of 5th avenue and 47th street in NYC - just outside my window.

A bunch of protesters chained themselves together and laid down across 5th avenue, with a cardboard bulldozer that said "CAT" and had Israeli flags all over it.

It took the cops about 15 minutes to get into action, but they eventually picked up all the protesters simultaneously and put them on the sidewalk so that they could cut through the chains and put them in the paddywagon.

Amazing.

Funny how some people who were protesting to support a person getting run over would resort to the same tactics.

The best part was either the bike messenger who tried to just ride over them and the Hasidic Jew who tore down their cardboard bulldozer right at the beginning of the protest (after all, 47th street is the diamond district and filled with hasids). "

The crowd cheered so loud when the cops came that I heard them from 19 floors up and one block away.

Big press coverage guaranteed! Your name will live long in the hearts of leftoids the world over, and if your comrades can produce a nifty graphic, e.g. the iconic Che in beret, your mug might appear of millions of t-shirts. Talk about immortality -- phew!

There is even a precedent, one Norman Morrison who self-fried in front of the Pentagon in 1965 to protest the Vietnam war.

"We've tried to use legitimate mechanisms like contacting our congressional representatives, but to no avail," says Zuckerman. "We aren't being listened to, so what do you do?"

What do you do? An excellent question.

1. Get better arguments - even Salon knows it's not "all about the oil".
2. Get less shrill - most people are totally turned off by any message that's shouted at them.
3. Try not impeding peoples' lives - most people aren't interested in your principles if you make them late for work.
4. Pretend to have jobs - nothing says "unemployed looser" like a protester on the streets during business hours on a Thursday.
5. Be patient - it took Vietnam protesters how many years to make a dent in US policy?

I'm bringing a conservative friend with me to NYC and I'd hate for him to have the wrong impression about your city.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx,
TV

#32,

Very nice! A DSM list of peace-nik mental illnesses. I have just one criticism: your definition for schizophrenia would be better suited for multiple personality disorder (MPD). Schizophrenia is not split personalities, but usually presents as extreme paranoia and delusions. Seriously, I think lots of the tinfoil hat crowd may be schizophrenic with the crazy conspiracy theories they spout. Unfortunately, liberals have made it almost impossible for mentally ill folks to get treatment, since they feel psychosis is merely the eccentric and unique behavior of "individuals" that "march to a different beat." The DU would be shut down if all members were each given a good dose of Haldol.

The much feared suicide bombings on US soil won't be Arabs - they'll be white, dreadlocked college kids in "Free Mumia" shirts.

This must be acknowledged in a world that is so confused that suicide murderers are not universally condemned, where a cop killing slime "Mumia" is a hero. You watch, after the first suicide murderer strikes in the USA, the media will blame Bush, and try to understand this person. Excuse me as I have my own vomit-in

Here's a little love note I sent these chuckle-f*cks. A little late but it made feel reeeaaalllll good. And ain't feelin' good what "peace" is all?

Attention! Greetings to the citizens of Bizarro World!

If I were Mr. Hussein, how would I strike back against the American aggressor? Well, I know I don't have the military power to reach across the ocean. So, an effective strategy might be for me to set up two parallel networks in America to advance my interests. The first network would have the responsibility to disrupt financial, transportation, and other business activities with civil disobedience. This would serve to distract homeland security forces including police and fire protection from the activities of the second network, which would be targeting sites of military and national security interests. Now, I have just found out that I don't even have to set up or pay for the first network; it's being donated to me gratis. If I am Mr. Hussein, I am very grateful to you. As are my citizens...well....at least the ones I haven't yet gotten around to raping, torturing or feeding through plastic shredders. Oh, but their time will come, by the beard of Allah....

Again, thanks for the great work. If I run across any Iraqi nationals where I live, I'll be sure to direct them to your website. Oh, in case you hadn't heard, there was already a "die-in" in Manhattan. It happened on September 11, 2001. You must not have been town that day. And here's another die-in: [Link: www.foxnews.com...] And one last thing: are you really going to exhibit the courage of your convictions and really die or is it going to be all stilts, clowns, and face hardware? Just a question....

Thank you for your attention! You may now resume your Bizarro life!

What is the deal with this supposed armored column of 1000 Repub Guard heading towards our troops?

That was then; this is now - make that

300 surviving Repub Guard running in total panic away from our troops

92 former idiotarian  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 10:50:33am

well as you know we've already had some of that here in chicago and after the first night's LSD seizure (the drive not the drug) CPD has made it clear temper tantrums won't be tolerated... the effect? only two - that's right - 2 - demonstrators showed up at federal plaza this morning after a week of daily demos & "civil disobedience"...I guess the rest are all off sulking

93 Aleksandr of New York  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:06:42am

where are those 4 cops who shot amadou diallo when u need them?
41 bullets per protester is enough to end the riot

C'mon lefties! Have a big naked party in Times Square! Show everyone that you've got some balls. Literally.

I for one, plan to be there tom. I will be taking my camera and maybe try to interview some of these wierdos. I had the idea of filling a supersoaker water gun with soap water (or urine) and spraying these un-washed wierdos but I dont really feel the need to spend the night in jail.

Nice try Eric but the photos are date MARCH 21st... Last FRIDAY! NOT today March 26th!

Plus they had them cleared away the morn of the 21st in about 5 minutes... did you enjoy your guided tour of the loop later that evening courtesy of the CPD? or we're you too busy posting on Chicago Indymedia complaining that your "rights" were violated because they fed you a baloney sandwich in violation of your vegan beliefs after you were "detained" on Thursday night?

97 tony v  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:26:17am

Eric (96),

Where in those pictures is someone's right to free speech getting taken away?

Was there a point to that Indymedia schpiel?

TV

98 Charles  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:38:50am

Nice try, Eric. But:

1) You are still an idiot, and

2) You have your own web site to publicize your moronic protests/tantrums. I'm not going to let you leech off LGF, just like you leech off society. Creep.

Is my distaste for you and your friends clear enough?

99 John  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:38:56am

#82 Tony -

If you aren't coming to new york in the next week or so, you don't really have to worry about the peace mongolians running around bothering you or your friend. Seriously, stuff like does not play here at all. Bloomberg will let it go for a bit to show how nice and free we are, but as soon as the reporters get their 20 second spot, it will be taken care of. They can stand in the park or on the sidewalks all they want, but as soon as they get in the street the paddywagon comes out; they made that perfectly clear last weekend. And I wouldn't suggest trying to block an ambulance or fire engine in NYC...a good percentage of the people driving them are new hires to replace the people who died at the WTC, they'll have no patience for this crap just like the rest of us won't.
Either way, if you want to avoid morons spewing liberal nonsense, in peace or war, I suggest staying out of Greenwich Village. Of course, I would suggest staying out of greenwich village regardless of the political situation, unless you like a circus style side show:)

100 Frank IMC  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:43:46am

As much as I love most of the times being in New York, with the fuckface idiots here in NYC (the political diversity in NYC is less then in Leningrad 1956) there are times I long to live in Wyoming.

Greenwich village has some of the best restaurants, bars, and shopping in all of Manhattan.

7th Street has McSorely's and Burp Castle.

Hold your nose if you have to, but the Village is a fun place to hang out, even if you're not an idiotarian!

104 tony v  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:48:32am

Kayawanee (102),

Thanks. I have a Frommer's guidebook, and Burp Castle is in it - supposed to have many different types of beer. Maybe I'll try it - at night.

TV

105 Frank IMC  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:48:34am

Burp Castle

Is that name for real??

106 growler  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:50:58am

The East Village is more likely to have the rabid anti- types.

Tony, you might find more antis doing the 5-boro tour than you see otherwise. One civil disobedience tactic often used is to bike slowly in large numbers, clogging traffic.

Anyways, don't be afraid of bringing your friend. It won't be that bad. If you find yourself in need of others who agree with you, find a dive bar/workingman's bar, like one of the many Blarney Stones or places like that. I was in one the other night and met an Irishman who's pissed not only at Iraq, Germany and France, but also with his home country for bowing out. He said he gets into constant debate with other Irishmen at the Irish bars in Queens.

109 kayawanee  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 11:52:08am

#105,

Yeah. It's called "Burp Caste - The Temple of Beers". It's on 7th Street (not Ave.) about 10 stores east of McSorely's. It has a gray gothic looking fence around it, and they've got some great beers from all around the world.

It's a very quiet place though. No loud talking allowed, and the bartenders dress like monks. It's definitely a different kind of bar.

110 Frank IMC  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 12:12:28pm

Wow, I'll have to try Burp Castle next time in NYC. (Have friends in the East Village.)

But of course I'll have to have my "Victory Celebration" at Rectangles. Although if I eat too much Felafel, I could turn that one into "F#^t Castle". ;)

111 Paul  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 12:38:53pm

Hessian, #31

I think you are exactly right.

Reading the article in the Village Voice I get the impression that the "peace activists" are gravitating towards acts of violence. The protests of the 60s gave rise to the Weathermen and other nihilists; we'll soon be dealing with the same thing but on an accelerated basis.

115 Chuck  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 4:02:18pm

This new millenium protest crap is like,... uh, so weird? It's a throw-back (or should I say "-up") to the Viet Nam era when there was a draft and you could understand why cowards would protest a war - any war. Only now, there is no draft, and if you ask virtually any of our troops if they want to be there, they would overwhelmingly answer yes. They all volunteered. These young people (I admire them so much) are about commitment and giving of themselves to make the world a better place. They don't need or want a crowd of cowards with a 30-year old cause to be "concerned" for them. And, the Iraqi civilians we're bending over backwards to liberate and protect in the process were dancing in the streets and shouting Allah-lujah on September 11th. They don't deserve the gift being given to them, but it is in the interest of the civilized world so, enjoy!

116 rabidfox  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 4:25:49pm

I'd suggest that we send these folks off to Bagdad, but I've been told that that violates the Geneva Convention.

119 M Joyce  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 7:24:02pm

Die in? Yawn.

Counter demonstrators should encourage the the Saddamite pro-facists to do something novel for a change:

Two, four, six, eight,
Why don't you self-immolate?

Now THAT would be news. And contribute to NYC's anti-litter campaign. Win, win.

120 someone  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 10:31:16pm

Incidentally, I wonder if the abject failure of these "peace" groups to do anything except increase support for the war will drive some of them to actual terrorism in the next few years, as happened post-1968 here and in Europe.

The 2004 Democratic convention should be amusing though.

121 chuck  Wed, Mar 26, 2003 10:44:57pm

Peace Activist MY ASS - more like peace democrats of the Civil War! Left over Copperheads and anarchists, treacherous sympathizers of the Arab-Islamic secession from civilization! Why don't they come out of their confederate closet and just show their support for idyllic days of slavery, tyranny and terrorism. Abe Lincoln threw thousands of dissenters like these in jail - WITHOUT TRIAL. This is why Buchnan ends up writing for Pravda, and neonazis in Paris stray from their "peace demonstration" and attack jewish children. We'll see about Sic Semper Tyrannis, when we jam a tomahawk in Saddams ass!

Fascist schmascist.

Even Karl Marx supported violent overthrow of oppressive regimes that hindered progressive, egalitarian societies. wtfru?

How high-minded of you to denounce ALL forms of violence, all the while harboring such genocidal contempt towards one of the most culturally tolerant nations in the world.

- "when the rest of the world kicks you off this planet"

So tell me, when is this peaceful demonstration supposed to take place? Are Dalai Lama and his army of hippie monks gonna wear the boot that kicks?
