IDF Raids ISM

Fri, May 9, 2003 at 8:30:34 am PDT

In the It’s About Time department, the IDF raided the offices of the Palestinian International Solidarity Movement today, detaining two “activists.”

IDF forces raided the Bethlehem offices of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement Friday, confiscating documents and CDs.

Two activists were detained, Israel Radio reports. The army has stated that they were in the country illegally.

One ISM member, Raphael Cohen, told reporters recently that the two British suicide bombers who detonated a bomb at Mike's Place in Tel Aviv had visited the ISM apartment in Gaza before setting off to blow themselves up. ISM states that it "recognize[s] the Palestinian right to resist Israeli violence and occupation via legitimate armed struggle", but it has strenuously denied any connection with the two suicide bombers.

Nonetheless, the two Britons apparently passed themselves off as pro-Palestinian peace activists, which gained them freedom of movement in and out of Israel.

Note that the ISM’s own web site contains instructions on how to enter Israel under false pretenses. And also note the domain name: palsolidarity.org.

And what post about the Pal Solidarity Movement is complete without a photo of Saint Rachel Corrie, teaching the little children of Gaza?

UPDATE: This Reuters story (hat tip: The Viking) has more info about the raid, including this interesting tidbit:

Military sources confirmed Friday's raid and said the army would now oblige foreigners entering Palestinian-ruled Gaza to sign a waiver absolving Israel of responsibility for their safety, a procedure already in place for Israeli civilians.

Reuters, of course, uncritically repeats the ISM lie that Saint Rachel was protecting a home from being demolished:

Two months ago, an Israeli bulldozer crushed to death American ISM member Rachel Corrie as she tried to block the demolition of a home in Rafah.

According to the IDF, no homes were targeted for demolition that day. The bulldozer was clearing brush used to hide smuggler’s tunnels. The propaganda never stops.

There's something not quite right about this post that I can't put my finger on. Something . . . missing.

PWEEEZ!

3 Charles  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:35:36am

Well, since this one doesn't mention Saint Pancake, I didn't think it necessary to include her photo this time. (Besides, Susan might have an embolism if I post it again this week...)

Ah, it's coming to be now.

Charles, that just means you HAVE to find a reason to post that photo again this week.

But not on this story. Wait for photos of the perp walk.

Well, since this one doesn't mention Saint Pancake, I didn't think it necessary to include her photo this time.

Fair enough, but in death she really has become the face of that organization. When I see that photo, it says as much about the group as it does about her personally.

ISM states that it "recognize[s] the Palestinian right to resist Israeli violence and occupation via legitimate armed struggle.

Can the world press, AKA Justin Huggler, Antonia Zerbisias, Robert Fisk, et al, now cease referring to these accomplices to genocide as "peace activists"?

Yuch! Charles, you linked to the ISM website; now I have to wash my hands.

8 Charles  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:43:25am

You know, I'm changing my mind, because I know it will also enrage VfI and cause him to seethe and sneer. And that’s always amusing. OK, one JPEG coming up.

What are the legalities regarding entering a democratic country under false pretences?

10 Chuck  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:44:20am

I especially liked the part in the "How to Get Here" section where it says:

When you cross over, the only practical option is to take a bus to Jerusalem (about 2 hour ride). We don't usually recommend people ride Israeli busses!

Now, why would that be? Maybe because your friends are blowing them up on a regular basis?

11 NC  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:48:59am

Ahhhh. Perfection.

OT,

I am on the phone with my father and uncle. My uncle lives in Givat Shmuel, a suburb in Tel Aviv.

He is telling me that his son (my cousin) was at Mike's Place when the British terrorist struck.

His son's friend was seriously injured by the explosion.

The most distrubing thing is that all of the injured from Mike's Place are all having difficulty breathing. The terrorists bomb was packed with a chemical that is causing this difficulty.

The IDF and the Government are not saying what this chemical is.

My uncle said that people are scared to death over the ramifications of this incident.

14 JoeyJoeJoeShabbadooJr  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:55:05am

Driving up I270 outside DC last night I saw a new VW Bug that the owner had spelled out "REMEMBER RACHEL CORRIE" in tape on the rear window. I remember Rachel Corrie- as a stupid twat who got herself killed defending the indefensible. Probably not what the car's owner intended.

15 NC  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:57:07am

AG--You might be interested in this story from DEBKAfile about the Tel Aviv bombing:

The type of explosive used in the Tel Aviv attack is unfamiliar to Israeli bomb experts who presume it was imported. It is surmised that the belt was manufactured in Lebanon or Syria by Hizballah bomb experts. The belts were either brought from Syria – no easy task to get past two border crossings – or assembled from explosive materials smuggled into the Gaza Strip through Egypt or by sea.

Nice use of the word "twat" in a sentence.

Lately the only thing I really think about when I see this picture is how badly she looks like she needs a laxative. Now there's a legacy to leave behind: "Saint, Holy Jihad, Have I Gotta Take A Crap! Pancake." Light a candle to that and try not to laugh.

D writes. What are the legalities regarding entering a democratic country under false pretences?

Varies from country to country. However entering an undemotratic one s(uch as all Arab states) would not be a pleasant experience if found out. Does anyone remember the race riots in Libya last year when some 900 black Africans were slaughtered. You don't hear too much about that from the Left wingers. Only white westerners can be racist murderers. What are the legalities regarding entering a democratic country under false pretences? What are the legalities regarding entering a democratic country under false pretences?

Two things: the Israeli police hinted about an 'unfamiliar substance' immediately after the bombing. A gag order has been issued, no details on the bomb can be published.

Worrying indeed.

24 Sean Neo Jew  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:08:09am

Nice to know that Charles finds vfi tiresome.

The info on crossing the Israeli border illegally is damning (at least to logical people).

NC's post makes me wonder again "Where are these explosives coming from?"

Caton or Reaganite (or someother in the know):
Don't explosives leave unique residues that can be used to trace their origin(s)? I ask out of laymen's ignorance.

I want to get the pushers of death.

25 CPatterson  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:09:37am

I come not to worship St. Pancake, but to bury the bimbo.

Uh, could the Idiotarian Society of Martyrs please point out the section of “international law” that recognizes a splodeydope going splodey as a legitimate form of resistance.

Or is that covered under the mysterious Amendment X.

26 The Law Student  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:09:58am

Even though I've seen St. Pancake a hundred times - heck, we already have nicknames for the disciples - I smile every time I see her.

27 The Viking  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:10:05am

This is all excellent news! I was wondering why it wasnät done a long time ago.

On another note (off-topic): does anyone know the HTML-code for barring over text (like the word 'Palestinian' in Charles' post)? I'd like to file a post on a Pro-Palestinian site...

I'm no expert, and most of my knowledge on explosives is 10 years old. However, as far as I know, some but not all 'industrial' explosives (as opposed to 'home-made') can be traced back to their origin.

I'll wait for reaganite. His info will be up-to-date

31 Sean Neo Jew  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:17:59am

Thanks Caton!

I am ignorant of true details. I thought most high-quality explosive manufacture was a little beyond most ME countries. Is the raw material (C4, Semtex)being imported?

32 Kimberly  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:19:17am

Wow, can't wait for the whining and seething from the Canonize Rachel Corrie crowd to begin. How dare the evil IDF raid peace activists? First the Eeeevil Jooooos insist on demonstrating the physical law of boundedness (i.e., two objects cannot share the same space at the same time) with bulldozers, and now this. C'mon, don't we give those "strenuous denials" of association with terrorists any weight anymore?

Man oh man, I sincerely hope that "detained" means "beaten senseless and spit upon."

35 Craig  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:26:39am

The Israelis should require that people get visas before they travel to the country. That way they'll have ample time to run background checks. It's not like the border crossings and airports are crowded with tourists, thanks to the terrorism carried out with help from the likes of Corrie and cohorts.

36 David S.  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:29:03am

I'm still thinking about selling those Rachel Corrie Bendi dolls in a package along with a toy bulldozer. Then we can all play along at home.

The other toy I want to make is the Palestinian Darwin Ackbar Work Accident Set. It comprises a toy hovel with two bearded "resistance fighters." When you push a button with Arafat's face on it, the walls explode and the legs of the two action figures get propelled out of the top. Then the Associated Press voice chip says "Witnesses said the Jews did it."

Any pre-orders?

39 growler  Fri, May 9, 2003 7:36:09am

Sadly, in the June issue of Esquire, editor in chief David Granger devotes about half his letter from the editor column to talking about Rachel Corrie.

Sad because he wrote that Rachel "was kneeling in front of the bulldozer." Sad because he wrote that a website posted e-mails from Rachel to her parents, e-mails that "show a young woman who found herself horrified by the desolation in which Palestinians were living and still moved by the generosity and kindness of the people she was there to help. She was also frightened."

The hate-filled girl is fast becoming a martyr, and the media is mostly too lazy to find out the real truth about her death and the ISM's evil.

AFAIK Semtex is only produced by Explosia in the Czech republic, so tracing its origin should be easy :-)

C-4 is manufactured in a number of countries now, including Germany, Italy and the U.K. There were rumors about C-4 being produced in Iran, but no confirmation (as of 10 years ago, again).

Buying C-4 or Semtex is not that difficult, though. Both are controlled, but it's just like heroin: with money enough, there's always a way.

# 30 HOR (that's not really a snipe, I just couldn't resist)

The Swedish ISM-love-in site sinks to new depths of stupefyingly ignorant.

The spelling is indeed great, such as "My Palestinian Heroin!!!" (meaning heroine, but undoubtedly true in a freudian slip way).

The asshat's later rant

"Yesterday; the IDF your so keen in defendin!!.. SNIPED AND KILLED A BRITISH AIDWORKER!!.... WHILST HE WAS TRYING TO SAVE TWO SCHOOL GIRLS FROM ISRAELI FIRE!!

IT WAS NOT A JUSTIFIED SHOOTING!!...& WAS NOT ACCIDENTAL!! ... because Tom had a Flourescent Vest On!!...The Isreali DASTARD that Zeroed in and Shot at Tom, made sure the guy would have No Chances.... He was shot with a High Calibre sniper bullet into the head!! Tom collapsed immediately after the impact, and was soon declared clinically dead... "

Sounds like the IDF guy deserves a beer.

Gee, let's wear the same flourescent vests as the terrorists do when they imitate aid workers and walk into a firefight. Turns out the "aid worker" was another ISM tool/stooge.

[Link: www.ccmep.org...]

(some semi-gory pics of the tool with a new hole in his rattle-can head)

People who put themselves in danger, put themselves in danger.

Other idiots talking about how if their friends convert to Islam, then they do to! Eeeeek! Just like little girls trying on makeup for the first time. "I wanna be a muslim now too. Wouldn't that be cool?"

Stupefyingly ignorant.

Drawing an inference:

1) Al Qaeda affiliate was killed by an IDF helicopter strike in Israel recently.

2) Al Qaeda affiliates in Britain were involved in a Ricin plot.

3) The bombers at Mike's Place came from Britain.

There is now a rebuttable presumption that Ricin was used in the bombs.

57 AG in Houston  Fri, May 9, 2003 8:15:51am

Scary to think that ricin might be the chemical found in the Mike's place bomb.

I really hate my enemies.

58 its jake  Fri, May 9, 2003 8:16:35am

Adding to my prior comment on the possibility of ricin being used (comment 56), here are the medical data on ricin:

Signs and Symptoms: Weakness, fever, cough and pulmonary edema occur 18-24 hours after inhalation exposure, followed by severe respiratory distress and death from hypoxemia in 36-72 hours.

Diagnosis: Signs and symptoms noted above in large numbers of geographically clustered patients could suggest an exposure to aerosolized ricin. The rapid time course to severe symptoms and death would be unusual for infectious agents. Laboratory findings are nonspecific but similar to other pulmonary irritants which cause pulmonary edema. Specific serum ELISA is available. Acute and convalescent sera should be collected.

Not that I know about these things, but that was my first thought as well.

60 Bill Jefferson  Fri, May 9, 2003 8:25:58am

Count the lies and omissions at a site linked through (and promoted by) an ISM subsidiary in New Jersey:

What are the Occupied territories?
After the fragmentation of the Middle East after the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, Palestine was in 1922 put under the British mandate. From 1922-1948 thousands of Jewish immigrants moved to Palestine mainly from European countries creating 25 years of armed conflict with the Palestinians. In 1948, Israel declared independence on 78% of Palestine. The remaining 22% (Gaza strip, west bank and East Jerusalem) was put under Jordanian and Egyptian control. In 1967, Israel invaded the remaining 22%, which are now known as 'occupied territories'.

rutgersdivest.org

Notice the mandate percentages leave out Jordan; no mention of the UN’s ham fisted partition; no mention of why Jews might have desired to leave Europe around that time. The territories were “put under” the control of Jordan and Egypt – they’re not called occupiers – while Israel’s self-defense in 1967 is portrayed as an invasion.

61 Alex F  Fri, May 9, 2003 8:30:27am

OT but did I miss the posts on Israeli Independence Day?

I live in Los Angeles, and although neither Israeli nor Jewish, I attended/will attend several events celebrating 55 years of Israel.

There were of course Palestinians/Arabs, sympathizers and a few self-hating jews protesting the events. They had signs deploring "55 years of Occupation", "Don't Dance on Palestinian Graves," and "Remember Rachel Corrie."

I took the opportunity to tell them to end the occupation of Lebanon, to go home to their Palestinian state of Jordan, and I asked about St. Pancake. Then I did a jig.

They really didn't like me, but after a couple minutes around me, they decided they'd rather protest in front of other, less confrontational, people. These people are bullies and need to be confronted.

It probably didnt hurt that I was wearing an green IDF shirt in Hebrew :-D

62 Glen Wishard  Fri, May 9, 2003 8:40:24am

Here are some of the e-mails Rachel Corrie sent to her parents, reprinted in Monthly Review (which is published by real communists of the CP-USA, though they’ve dropped the Hammer and Sickle logo). They give a few interesting insights:

Today I tried to learn to say, “Bush is a tool,” but I don’t think it translated quite right. But anyway, there are eight-year-olds here much more aware of the workings of the global power structure than I was just a few years ago.
We could probably make it through [a checkpoint] if we made serious use of our international white person privilege, but that would also mean some risk of arrest and deportation …
So when I sound crazy, or if the Israeli military should break with their racist tendency not to injure white people, please pin the reason squarely on the fact that I am in the midst of a genocide which I am also indirectly supporting, and for which my government is largely responsible.
I know I should really try to link up with the family in France but I really think that I’m not going to do that. I think I would just be angry the whole time and not much fun to be around. It also seems like a transition into too much opulence right now—I would feel a lot of class guilt the whole time as well.

Yes, I really do feel sorry for Rachel Corrie - though, as I've said before, she was old enough to know what kind of dogs she was lying down with.

But consider how she was equipped:

1) Parents who are obviously guilt-soaked middle-class liberals, of the kind who crank out radical children as sure as a rabbit drops bunnies.

2) A corrupt and intellectually rotten public school system, run by a lot of semi-literate Trotsky wannabes, who thinks it's funny to make 11 year-old girls cry about the way the US treats the "Third World".

3) A university that teaches nothing except "activism" and Hello-Kitty Fascism.

4) A political movement that specializes in exploiting the decency, conscientiousness and restraint of liberal democratic nations (like the US and Israel) by the most efficient means possible: Using innocent people as shields, and putting pathetic dupes like Rachel Corrie into harm's way, hoping they'll be martyred for the cause.

I don't have any illusions about Rachel Corrie's character, and I don't think she was just a little lost girl (the look on her face in these photos turns your blood cold - it's the face of pure blind hatred). But given the cards she was dealt, by a culture of indoctrination, what should we expect?

Thanks a lot! I had checked the index I had, but it wasn't included. Your list looks good!

Now, if this text is blinking, it worked. If not, I'll try another one later.

And yet more whitewash of the terrorist supporter! This time it mentions a few blogs by name.

Bad enough that Corrie was crushed to death, but now she is being buried again, a victim of media neglect and Blogistani justice. Cruise the net and you'll find many Likudnik hardline blogs, or web logs, and web forums, where Corrie has been crudely excoriated.

On idiotarian.com: "I nominate the Bulldozer for the Nobel Peace Prize! It improved society; and now with blood on its hands, I mean blade, it'll fit in with past recipients such as: Terrorfat, Mandela, Carter." On littlegreenfootballs.com, where she's known as "the flat bitch:'' "How 'bout we all get together at Rachel's grave and stage a vomit-in on it?'' while on usefulwork.com, "I hope that Rachel's parents read this site. I just want to say hi; and that at least you have the knowledge that she died painfully."

Reading sites, where Arabs and Muslims are described in the most hateful terms, I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be if they referred to other minorities in similar ways. But to go on about that would dull my point.

90 Moe Katz  Fri, May 9, 2003 10:24:57am

Funny that it doesn't occur to Zerbisias, quoted in #89, that the Muslim Arabs are not a minority in the ME -- in fact they are not only a majority but one of the most intolerant and irredentist majorities on the planet.

91 Josh Shanker  Fri, May 9, 2003 10:27:02am

I really looked at the Rachel Corrie picture much more closely than I usually do. Corrie has this horrible die-all-Americans-and-Jews look on her face, but the Palestinian kids, look at them. They're like, "What's up dude, this chick is kinda kooky. Hey Mohammed, we're on film!"

According to the IDF, no homes were targeted for demolition that day. The bulldozer was clearing brush used to hide smuggler’s tunnels.

So how about this headline:

Rachael Corrie Gives Life to Protect Bush

97 Glen Wishard  Fri, May 9, 2003 10:58:24am

BTW - The ISM lie that Charles refers to, in regard to the Reuters story, is the polite version of the lie. Try this one on for size:

Rachel was murdered on March 16. She was run over by an Israeli-driven, U.S.-made Caterpillar D9 bulldozer while attempting to prevent the destruction of a Palestinian home. At the time that she was killed she was wearing a bright fluorescent orange jacket, speaking to the driver through a bullhorn and looking at him straight in the eye. The driver of the bulldozer not only ran over her, but also backed over her again with the blade pressed down. There were seven eyewitnesses plus photos of her murder.

That's from John Foster and Bob McChesney, graduates of the wonderful Evergreen State College, which is no doubt fully and enthusiastically accredited by the scenic state of Washington.

I've heard the rumor of Ricin poison circulating in Israeli forums too.

I'm far more worried about the explosives:
this is a high grade new substance that has been flattened into thin white sheets and smuggled into the country as a Quran book.
It shows the deep involvement of a terror harboring country (Syria?) no doubt, a few jihadies could'nt manufacture it themselves / stolen it.
This is also not the sort of substance that you can find in landmines (a lot are dug up in Sinai and taken apart for the 10-13 kg. explosives).

Add to it the fact that the two brits entered the area a mere two days before passover, I believe this could have been another passover massacre, only far more "spectacular". Perhaps the terrorists underestimated heightened Israeli security before the holidays, and the curfew imposed on the occupied territories a day / two in advance of any holiday.

It sound bad but we were really "lucky" this time.

Alas, this is not entirely correct. High grade explosives are not that difficult to manufacture. In fact, it's fairly easy. I have no doubt about the first part of this quote though.

This is also not the sort of substance that you can find in landmines

Again, this is not correct. Most military explosives are based on 3 or 4 primary exposives. The difference is how it is employed (cast or pressed). I will not go into details but it isn't rocket science.

Anyway, someone way up on this thread asked about how to identify sources of explosives post blast. The word you were looking for was "tagant". For the most part only western nations use them. Tagants instill a host of problems in high explosives. They tend to reduce brisance for one. It also makes C-4 less moldable. For instance, if you pack tagant C-4 into a shape charge container and are not very diligent in your packing you get a "splatter" shot. Not all the explosives will propogate. I hate the stuff. OTOH, most of the C-4 is old manufacture, the new crap was sent back for remixing to correct the problems with it.

I'll post just to get 100

101 hobgoblin  Fri, May 9, 2003 2:22:01pm

A St. Pancake thread without at least 100 posts is kinda like seeing a bum stuck out in the rain without an umbrella. He needs the cleansing, but you still want to give him something to cover his head. Corrie doesn't deserve the recognition but it feels good to ridicule such asininity.

Crepes` a la Corrie....

Start with Rachel Corrie-style crepes`. (Thin and bitter)

Add sour grapes and stringy goat of Palestian

Drench in cheap French "Whine".

Conduct ceremonial crying and candle-lighting over Crepes` a la Corrie...then consume.

Top with comment that the whole thing was an unappetizing mess...but it is not the Rachel Corrie crepes' fault

I will not go into details but it isn't rocket science.

It would be to the average terrorist.
Most palestinian bombs are fertilizer based TATP, and they practically have a terror industry. I have yet to hear of palestinians making their own plastic explosives.
Nor have I seen websites that (god forbid) explain how to make such explosives on the 'net. Such knowledge is not as readily available to the common person as say, rocket construction. Hamas online forums use rocket designs that originate in western rocket enthusiasts' wesites.

As for the explosives used in "Mike's Place", I heard the names "Datasheet" / "FLEX-X" come up, but C4 was dismissed.
It is my understanding that the two former explosives mentioned do not exist in landmines.

It is very possible though that I am mistaken,
as I have very little knowledge in that field, certainly in contrast to yours.

107 Peter Ingemi  Fri, May 9, 2003 5:54:03pm

On another note that just hit me after posting the first one.

Keep putting up the picture.

In Tip O'Neil's autobiography he talks about a conversation with the Idiotarian of the year it went something like this....

Carter had just given a speech concerning an issue important to Demorcrats (I believe it was concerning energy I'm at work and don't have the book on me.) they had the following exchange:

Great speech Mr. President! Now here's a list on congressmen that you will want to keep the preasure on"

Carter answered that it wasn't necessary he had clearly explained the situation to the American people and that would do.

O'Neil was flumuxed. He understood that to make a political point you have to keep hammering on it or it is forgotton.

Once you stop hammering on the late Ms Corrie her support for terror and those who practiced it, (misguided or mallicious) will be ignored. Thus the picture must in my opinion stay to keep the point hammered home.

108 JOEY  Fri, May 9, 2003 6:44:26pm

Whadaya know. Another picture of the dead witch Corrie. Look at the hate on that pisk. The poor bulldozer operator was likely frightened half to death at the sight of this beauty and fainted, thus losing control of the dozer. How the hell else could this serendipitous event have occurred?

I can't figure out if this is an update on the link that Charles posted or if two more ISM scumbags have been arrested.

Arrested were Christine Razowsky, 28, from Chicago, and an Australian woman who did not want her name released, as well as Palestinian Fida Gharib, 22, a secretary for the organization, police spokesman Gil Kleiman and other group officials said.

An update, as Fida Gharib was arrested with the two others. She was released almost immediately.

Caton,

Why?

She was just a secretary, had not committed any crime, did not enter illegaly... When you haven't done anything wrong, if you are arrested, you are immediately released. In Israel, that is -- it's not the same thing everywhere.

114 zulubaby  Sat, May 10, 2003 1:28:12am

Caton,

Got it, thanks. I'm sure they'll keep an eye on her though.

You know, I'm changing my mind, because I know it will also enrage VfI and cause him to seethe and sneer. And that’s always amusing. OK, one JPEG coming up.

Like water off a ducks back. I'm just amused at how hung up you are on the photo (and obsessed with Corrie too).

Nothing on LGF gets me 'enraged', it's a laugh riot each and every day.
