 RetweetInternational LGF Meetup Day

By: Charles Johnson • Sep 20, 2003 at 5:31 pm PDT

Phil Essing has thoughtfully set up a way for LGF fans to get together for meetings (over at an interesting place called meetup.com, about I which I know very little), and has scheduled a first meeting for two weeks from now: International LGF Meetup Day.

I love this joke from his site

President Bush calls in the head of the CIA and asks,

?How come the Jews know everything before we do??

The CIA chief says,

?The Jews have this expression - Vus tutzuch? - (which for those of you who don't know Yiddish means, "What's Happening?") They just ask each other and they know everything.?

The President decides to personally go undercover to determine if this is true. He gets dressed up as an Orthodox Jew (black hat, beard, long grayish) is secretely flown in an unmarked plane to New York, picked up in an unmarked car and dropped off in Brooklyn's most Jewish neighborhood.

Soon a little old man comes shuffling along. The President stops him and whispers,

?Vus tutzuch??

The old guy whispers back...

?Bush is in Brooklyn.?

OT: You know how the Australian Brodcasting Corporation (ABC) referred to David Irving as a holocaust dissident?

I mentioned this in a thread in an Aussie blog, and someone pointed me to [Link: www.abc.net.au...] to argue (as far as I know) that the use of the word "dissident" was appropriate.

3. ABC News Online – use of language

Background

The complaint arose from an ABC News Online story which used the word “dissident” to describe historian David Irving. The complainant felt this was a misuse of English, citing the definition of a “dissenter” as someone who disagrees with some establishment dogma, and struggles nobly against an unjust cause.

Finding

The CRE determined that it was not inaccurate to describe David Irving as a “dissident” historian, but that whether the term “dissident” was a strong enough description was a matter of judgement. The headline reference to “dissident” was given context in the body of the story, which alluded to the Government’s concerns about granting Mr Irving a visa, given that he had convictions in several jurisdictions. The complaint was not upheld.

More about Army Capt. James Yee (CNN)

"Army Capt. James Yee was taken into custody by U.S. military authorities September 10 at the naval air station in Jacksonville, Florida, while in possession of classified documents "that a chaplain shouldn't have," an official told CNN, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The official said the documents included "diagrams of the cells and the facilities at Guantanamo [Bay, Cuba]" where about 600 al Qaeda and other "enemy combatants" are being held by the military.

Yee also was carrying lists of detainees being held there as well as lists of their interrogators, the source said.

In addition to the classified documents, Yee is "believed to have ties to [radical Muslims in the U.S.] that are now under investigation," the source said. He said he could not elaborate on the basis for that belief.

Although no charges have been filed, the U.S. military is "investigating whether [Yee] may have [been involved in] espionage or treason," the official said."

22 Yehudit  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 4:40:52pm

Well, every Shabbat is a holy day - let's try to have some meetups in the future on a Sunday so Jews who observe the laws of Shabbat can attend.

Oct 4 is the Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which is especially meaningful. But if you aren't observant, services are way over by 4 PM. I'm probably going to some study thing in the evening but I could stop by the meetup for a while.

Thanks to Phil - whoever you are - for doing this. I was just thinking the NYC LGF group hadn't met in a while. I just sent an email to the NYC LGF listserv to let them know about the site and to sign up.

34 Shiplord Kirel  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 5:02:30pm

OT, but this seems like as good a place as any to post another Fifth Column alert. The British commercial website, Probert Encyclopedia, has this to say under its article entitled Invasion of Iraq:

In 2003 a 'coalition' of American led forces invaded Iraq without United Nations approval on the pretext that Iraq posessed, and refused to relinquish, weapons of mass destruction which were a threat to the security of other countries, including the USA. Within weeks the ruling Ba'ath regime was overthrown, no weapons of mass destruction found and the justification changed to 'the liberation of the Iraqi people'. The reality was the invasion was part of the corporate plan for world globalisation - the corporate takeover of water, oil and electric production and distribution for profit, and Iraq, led by Sadaam Hussein, was not cooperative to the idea of the theft of the country's resources by Anglo-American corporations. President Bush of the USA and Primeminister Tony Blair of the UK both with major financial ties to the relevant globalisation corporations used their countries armies to further their own financial gain. The illegality of the war proved the United Nations to be ineffective in policing aggressive nations.

In the same section, this is how they describe the origins of the Cold War:

As the Second World War ended America wanted to continue through Germany and invade the USSR, replacing the Communist government with one more harmonious with American economic interests. This desire for invasion and regime change continued for many years, with the Soviets developing more and more nuclear weapons as a deterent
35 Yehudit  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 5:04:24pm
I seriously doubt that any Christians wishing to attend an LGF Meet would feel offended.

I hope that wasn't sarcasm. If it was - Most Christian denominations don't spend the entire Sunday in worship. Most Jews don't either (on Sat). But observant Jews can't travel on Shabbat, so they could only attend if they lived in walking distance. I don't know of any Christian denominations with that restriction.

And I said "some meetups," not all of them, and I am thinking specifically of NYC where there are lots of observant Jews. The mileage would vary in say Iowa.

As to your correct observations about how most Christians observe Sunday, that's precisely why I suggested that they would likely have no objections.

Get a disposable e-mail account if you're worried about it. Like #62 David said though, way too many cookies. I'm a bit leery about that site.

68 cba  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 6:22:56pm

#67 thanks, reaganite.

I think I'll hold off for a while and wait to hear reports from other minions. And until there are Sunday meetings. I'm not shomeret Shabbat (well, duh! I post here on Saturday) but I am rather protective of my Shabbat afternoon shulf (nap)--or, as we used to say at the summer camp of the religious youth group I belonged to many years ago, attending a meeting of the Sabbatical Post-Prandial Somnolescence Society.

69 Doctor Bean  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 6:31:42pm

Like a moron I signed up before reading reaganite's warning. I'm in the LA area. (noticed zulubaby signed up too.) None of the suggested meeting places are within walking distance to my house so I'll have to miss out unless some of the meetings are moved to Sundays or Saturday nights.

What worries me about the site is that I found no way to disenrol. Looks like I'm a member forever, but won't go to any of the meetings. Oh well... Zulubaby: have a drink on my behalf!

I also would like to request possibly Sat. night or Sundays for Jews who observe the Sabbath, as I am sure there are many such Jews who are regular LGFers.

74 Daniel  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 6:55:41pm

It sounds like an interesting idea, but I was disappointed that you decided to make it on Shabbat, which is out of the question for me. What about a Sunday afternoon - especially since I'm sure there are a lot of Sabbath observing Jews who frequent this site (gee, do you think?) :)

Anyway, it was probably an oversight, but I thought I'd put in my 2 shekels worth.

Which one of these joints is Charles going to?

From the list given for West LA, the Washington Blvd. Starbucks is closest to the Super Secret International Lizardoid Operational HQ, but he could also nominate a venue of his choice... as could other West LA LGFers.

BTW, it's still a good 2 hrs from where I'm at, but the Royal Falconer British Pub in Redlands is a good choice for all you Inland Empire Minions...

;^)

76 Spiny Norman  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 7:06:42pm

When isn't that a fine how-do-you-do? Exactly one -- count it -- one vote from San Bernardino County. Now I know I'm out in the hinterlands. Sheesh.

So, Charles, where are you going to be???

77 Leah  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 7:10:53pm

You all..for the Md. Suburban area..choose White Flint. AND--So it shouldnt be a total loss -- just in case no one shows up or just a few show up...you can do your shopping as well., see a movie, eat...It is also centrally located along the Pike with tons of stores there..catch up on some of your chores while you are out in Rockville-- ALSO woman friendly/ safe...It would be great at White Flint.

79 Doctor Bean  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 7:24:31pm

Well it looks like there are 66 people signed up world wide with NY leading the pack at 8 and LA in second place with 4, though obviously more will probably sign up in the next days.

Anyone concerned about the fact that there's no way to disenrol?

I think Charles should NOT let us know if or where he's attending. Too many wack-jobs out there.

87 Phil (CDN)  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 7:52:03pm

Heya folks, this is the Phil that got this ball rolling.

I agree that Saturday is a bad choice for the monthly meetups. Unfortunately, I had no say in when, or where, these meetings would take place. It seems their system randomly selects a day of the week, and then sets the first incidence of that day, each month, as the meeting date.

I'm going to see what, if anything, can be done to change the meeting day to the first Sunday of each month. I'll inform Charles on my progress so that he can keep everyone up to speed.

As for venues, the list you see initially is predetermined, again, by the system. If none of the those venues appeal to you, you may create your own venue and then the people in your area can vote for their preferred location.

Ok folks, get out there and meet your fellow LGF'rs!

Are any of you nervous that we won't really be able to interact in person without high speed internet connections and funny links to stuff? I imagine us all having a drink and saying stuff like "I saw this great article, umm... I'll post a link when I get home..." "So, you really like LGF too, huh?" "Yeah. Charles is great" "I love Charles." Then we quickly pay the bill and race home to get back on LGF.

Doctor Bean LMAO

93 DC  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 8:41:47pm

Another vote to have the meetings on a day other than Saturday. Also, for the LA meetings, how about at a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf--they are like Starbucks (and getting as ubiquitous) but unlike Starbucks are kosher.

94 Sheik Yerbooti  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 8:51:48pm

Anyone around here from the Central Valley (CA)?

95 Ladybug  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 9:20:41pm

How come we didn't get to vote on the meeting day?

I really would love to "meetup" with other lizardoids, but I do not travel on Shabbat.

96 Teacake  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 10:23:32pm

Dr. Bean, you are right! LOL Like a blind date.

I noticed there are several groups that meet in the areas... maybe select a group that seems interesting and plan the meeting with them . lolol

97 ashan  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 10:28:29pm

I voted for the Arcaffe venue (Herzlia). The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Herzlia would be a terrific alternate. (BTW - a brand new Arcaffe is opening in the new industrial area of Netanya next to Tiv Taam - another great alternate location).

I would also prefer a weekday. Are kids invited?

98 Teacake  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 10:28:45pm

I noticed that some of the other groups in New Orleans have selected the coffee house I go to on a regular basis... I am going to keep my eye open on those days and report back how other meetings go. I've always wanted to be a female version of 007.

99 Minstrel  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 10:30:58pm

Anyone here willing to meet at a coffeeshop (The Blue Bottle) just off the Ball State campus in Muncie?

100 Teacake  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 10:31:39pm

97   ashan - my memory is not so great these days... are you the person from I.F. who is involved in the cat rescue program in Israel?

101 ashan  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 11:05:23pm

#100 Teacake

No. I like cats, but I wouldn't go about rescuing them. Sorry. I am one of the many poor slobs who lost their jobs in the "high-tech sector" last year. Sigh.

102 evariste  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 11:08:39pm

Dude you count as SoCal. The Imperial (Inland Empire) residents can join the Riverside/San Diego/Orange/Los Angeles/Ventura County folks.

#80 evariste

I agree, don't tell us Charles. Actually, don't show up period.

Hey now, wait a minute! If I'm gonna drive out to Santa Monica, Venice or Manhattan Beach I want a chance to meet the man himself. I'm not asking for guarantees. Just a chance.

#88 zulubaby

Mommydoc is up to her eyes busy. Could you email me with some suggestions on some interesting West Side places for us? I'll forward them to the group as well as solicit information for a firm date and time.

BTW Southern California people, October 19 or 25 looks like our day. Both are Sundays, both 2PM or later for those who attend morning service. If you want to offer suggestions join here at the LGFSoCal group.

104 evariste  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 11:35:08pm

NTropy, are you and mommydoc related or married or anything? /nosyboy
I'm glad she's busy, hadn't seen her in a couple of days.
Will you pass this on to her?

Friends of justdanny

Danny says he's been staying away because he's been having some serious health problems and can't handle the emotions that LGF invokes right now. He misses you all like family, and says peace to all his friends here.
Any of you that pray, please pray for him to get better. I don't normally, but I will be asking G-d for a mercy tonight. Thank you. And G-d bless you.
105 Tara T.  Sat, Sep 20, 2003 11:48:19pm

Hi Ashan,

Fellow-former-future hi-techer here. Anyplace in Herzliya would be perfect. I don't like the idea of signing up on that site, so would you be kind enough to stay in touch and let me know what and when the meeting is scheduled for Israeli LGFers? My email is linked above.

Thanks!

Well I hadn't heard of him before, but I'm a fan now!

My techie son put me onto the Mailinator site. I was complaining to him about having to give way too much personal information when registering for sites such as the Telegraph, and chose not to bother rather than divulge it.

Mailinator works just great!

Ok, what's the deal here? How come I'm the only person who signed up for Philadelphia?! I was going to ask if I could bring talloldman with me - my designated driver; 2 drinks and I'm under the table (yeah, cheap date, I know), but if it's only going to be us two, I don't have to drive all the way down to Manayunk to "get together". :-)

And how come there's 4400+ people here when usually there's about 163 at this time of the morning?!

110 lizzy  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 2:26:52am

calling Israeli lgf-ers!calling Israeli lgf-ers!

Can we do our get together thang perhaps on a day other than Saturday? Some of us are observant, and some, like me dont drive!!! how about during hol ha moed sukkot? maybe we can all meet with kids etc and have an" al- ha -esh" togehter, or go to the Israel museum in Jerusalem, have a huge group picnic in one of the cool sukkot they have?
I dont have 20 bucks to join this friends meet- up club( sorry life is economically sucky round these part at the moment ) but maybe we can arrange it among ourselves?
lets all have a big " family " meeting, and show our Israeli lizard solidarity!!
plus eat like pigs! mmm!
( Ill make home made hummus )

OT: A.N.S.W.E.R. supports violence against US troops in Iraq:

I'm not kidding. Go to their website and download this PDF file:
[Link: www.internationalanswer.org...]

The money quote:

The anti-war movement here and around the world must give its unconditional support to the Iraqi anti-colonial resistance.

It's at the very end of the pamphlet (which, being a 4-sided pamphlet is the end of the first downloaded page) just before the author's name "By Richard Becker."

Am I wrong or is incitement to kill US troops treason?

Ok, I have submitted a request to meetup.com, asking them to move the monthly meeting day to Sunday, as opposed to Saturday. These guys are very slow (it took 3 weeks to get the topic created) so we may only get this resolved in time for the November meetup.

Common LGF'rs from Montreal... Get signed-up!

That's terrible about justdanny. I really enjoy his posts. He is a very nice funny guy. We had a very funny exchange a while ago that starts here. Please let him know that he is in my thoughts and prayers and that I wish him a complete recovery.

#103 NTropy
Now I'm confused. (It doesn't take much.) I thought mommydoc was a SoCal LGFer, but on the meetup site she's signed up in Colorado. An impostor? I'm ambivalent about signing up with the Yahoo SoCal LGF group because it means letting all the others who've signed up see your email address and mine has my name in it. Yes I know I can get a throw away email account, but I'd forget to ever check it. I don't know any LGFers in "meatspace" so I guess I'll keep checking this thread for updates. Pass along to mommydoc wishes for rest from me.

117 Microsoft delenda est  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 5:17:55am

1. Oct. 4 is a VERY bad day for this meeting.

2. I can't figure out how to enroll in their stupid system. Someone will have to email me the info.

Who are these people?

If you know how to do this, please email me at mardukhai@hotmail.com.

WHEW!

118 Geepers  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 5:24:12am

Doctor Bean (#116),

mommydoc is the owner/moderator of the SoCalLGF group. She's vacationing, so that's the discrepancy.

I didn't think there would be anyone else in RDU.Three of us so far.

120 Minstrel  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 5:58:34am

Am I the only LGFer at Ball State?

Hello? (ello . . . lo . . . lo)

I feel so . . . alone.

Please, if there's anyone even central Indiana, send me an email. I'd love to get together.

That's the problem with the Midwest. Almost everyone here is so sensible, it's hard to find people who are really on fire about anything. And if someone is on fire, they tend to keep it to themself, so they never meet anyone else with like-minded views. I think I need to blog about this.

121 Doctor Bean  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 5:58:48am

#118 Geepers:
Vacationing yet "up to her eyes busy". Hmmm. Something still doesn't jive. I think she's a CIA officer disguised as a (not so) mild mannered gynecologist working for a major metropolitan hospital.

123 Tara T.  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 6:40:39am

lizzy,

I think we all agree that the date should be changed for Israel, at least. Jerusalem is kind of far for me. We need to take a poll, find out how many of us there are, where we are located and then select a central location...BUT, we're a bunch of Israelis (or Israeli wannabees), so the chance of us all agreeing on anything is remote at best.

littleoldlady wrote:

Actually, we may have had an attempted DoS (Denial of Service) attack on LGF last night. Someone started hitting us from the IP 69.31.32.16 last night at about 1 AM, and then launched a series of nearly continuous page requests, totalling something like 40,000 hits altogether.

I've banned this IP at the server level, by the way.

World Bank-Palestinians need $1 bln a year from donors

Everywhere you read the poor terrorists palestinians need more money, more help. Who cares about how the Israeli people are suffering. Let's sanction them til they drop to their knees. It is a laughing matter and a tear jerker all in one.
Then of course the story surfaces on how arafat diverted 900 million of public funds to special account (no!!) and the money keeps pouring in. Worse, the palestinian people lap up the lies like ice water on a hot day.
One of many EXAMPLES:

The PLO opened offices worldwide, obtained financial backing, and significantly increased its assets and income between 1974 and 1981.Two months after the Camp David agreement of September 1978, which ended the state of war between Egypt and Israel, ten Arab heads of state met in Baghdad and agreed to provide $3.5 billion annually to aid the PLO, and countries such as Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan; the money was meant to help fuel anti-Israel activities. Of a total of $250 million allocated annually to the PLO, $10 million was designated for the "families of the martyrs."

You may not have too manyshekels to rub together but your humanity shines like the sun.
...which of course is far more then we can say for the other side.

Any way, I would love to see you while I am in Israel. I'll get your e-mail address and send you my Israel cell number.

126 MG lazer  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 7:35:13am

Charles,

I wrote a simple hack block PHP script checker:

Basically you check per ip for repeated page requests that are more than a specified time interval such as 10 requests in 5 seconds for one ip would probably be a hack attack.
Then you automatically block that ip (for that IP's session minimally) and send a email warning notice to webmaster ..

If you want the actual code script let me know

127 cba  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 7:36:05am

130 mommydoc  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 8:19:28am

For those who are brainstorming as to my identity/location, let me put your fears at rest (that's you, Dr. Bean ;-)). I am not a CIA agent; I am a traveling doctor (some of you may know that as locum tenens)

NTropy is right; I am up to my eyeballs because I am in the process of packing and moving. Geepers is right; I will be "vacationing" on the date chosen by the Meetup software.

But I would appreciate it if people do not discuss my physical whereabouts on LGF. As a number of regulars, and Charles, are aware, I have been being harassed by HWSNBN, who still lurks here, and has seen fit to email me directly with threats to show up at my door, among other things. It earned him his own personal file at the FBI, but I would feel more comfortable if y'all didn't discuss where I am when.

As for joining these groups, I think it is imperative to use an email address that doesn't include your actual name. It is also because of the concerns voiced by Dr. Bean that I originally made the LGFSoCal YahooGroup, which was the first of these groups, restricted to only those members I recognize from the blog, to weed out lurkers and trolls. I also restricted the email archives, so that the older emails which had identifying info are only accessible by me, to preserve everyone's privacy. And, as others have started these groups, I have made the same recommendations to them.

Ultimately, though, if we are to meet, we will end up knowing each others' names, so there is only so much anonymity one can expect from these things. My plan is to remove "members" who haven't shown to any of the get-togethers, since that is the reason for having these groups at all.

So, I recommend that people create email accounts with their LGF nicks and not worry too much. But that is one reason I like the YahooGroups for this purpose better than the Meetup software. The groups can be moderated/restricted and individuals can email each other directly. It also allows for more flexibility as to dates, etc.

Just my 0.02.

131 selpaw  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 9:30:26am

Good luck in everything you do. You are vey special, indeed. Please stay in touch. May you find peace and happiness in the New Year. Shana Tova!

Thank you so much for you kind wishes, 127 cba! You too are an angel.
Promise hugs will be exchanged on your behalf. I leave the first of Novemeber so in-between the holidays and then I will stay in touch. Will also write from Israel, too. Take good care. Shana Tova and wishes for a very sweet year.

#132 Yair:

It depends on which LGFers I would be meeting.

I'd love to meet (in no particular order) lizzy, selpaw, Colt, evariste, reaganite, PDM, zulubabby, mommydoc... and then there is at least one I would avoid like the plague.

I think it's time to take this discussion off line. If you have lizzy's email address, ask her for mine. If not, then click on the names of one of the following people to ask that person (they all have my email address and I'm sure wouldn't mind sharing):

* ploome (oh, no, I just realized I left you off my list in post #133--please consider yourself added!!)
* mommydoc

* reaganite

141 selpaw  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 11:00:56am

How about if I write Charles and give permission for him to give you mine, ok?

142 cba  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 11:05:26am

#141: Charles is really busy and might have misplaced mine at the very least, and if you haven't emailed him recently he might not have yours, either.

Click on one of those names (reaganite, for example, is on this thread) and follow the instructions--it usually takes me a couple of tries to get it right especially if there's an 0 (or is that "O"?) involved, but otherwise it's not complicated. If you send me an email I'll send you zulubabby's. And lizzy's. Can't say fairer than that, now can you?!

143 zulubaby  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 11:08:54am

selpaw, you're such a doll :-)

I'd love to be able to keep in contact with you while you're in Israel too, so if Charles doesn't mind playing go-between, I'll get your e-mail address from him.

Such a deal going on here ; - ))

I wrote Charles to get both e-mail addresses for you zulubaby and cba. I also told him he could give both of you mine as well. Let's see what happens- If worse comes to worse I will click on one of the names you suggested.

Zulubaby...so funny about ALL YOUR e-mail addresses. I have quite an assortment myself ; -)) some of which I forget about.
Once I leave for Israel, I will give you another to use.

Bottom line...no way we will lose track.

Yair, that breaks my heart. If that's how you feel, then please, please, find someone to help you work through it. I'm not saying this to be snarky or rude or insulting, but truly, truly from the heart. It can be done (like quitting ciggies), but it's not easy.

164 zulubaby  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 1:15:21pm

cba, I went to my friend's birthday party which was amazing. Now I need chocolate. Immediately! I'm going to the store (... still half-asleep :-)

selpaw (#155)

ok! Wow! I must know what was the occasion if any. Did this involve chocolate and bubble bath. (for 2!!)

LOL! Now that would be telling ... :-)

Great article.
And on A7?
Whoa! Are you connected?

I thought the juxtaposition of kids at a birthday party against that macabre gathering of the Global Left was effective.
Kinda had a polarizing effect.
Cake & kritching kids or French Champagne & swooning adulation from Babs for King Rat.

Stupid simple...Yes, I'd love some cake, thank you!

Great minds run in the same gutter?
Can't wait to hear from you.

zulubaby. Hmm. To cba it was an amazing BD party but to me, 'that would be telling.' I think the scenario goes like this:
Zulubaby went to an amazing BD, drank a great deal of champagne and ended up in a tub of bubbles ; - )) but without chocolate ; - ((

Whatever happened I hope it was yummy and fun!

Now I see you are now on your way to a walloping good fix from the chocolate you've gone to buy.
As for me, I must go fix dinner. Jeeves has the day off.

I don't think selpaw is the author and I'm sure she didn't mean to imply she was, it's just that the title has confused people. selpaw lives in the States and has a granddaughter old enough to be a bat mitzvah, whereas the author is in her 40s, lives on the Golan, and has six children (the youngest of whom is aged seven).

But yes, it's an excellent piece. Thanks for linking to it, selpaw.

Actually, we may have had an attempted DoS (Denial of Service) attack on LGF last night. Someone started hitting us from the IP 69.31.32.16 last night at about 1 AM, and then launched a series of nearly continuous page requests, totalling something like 40,000 hits altogether.

I don't have a clue about what this means, Charles, but I'm very happy you were able to fix the problem! :-)

As of 8 pm Sunday night there's still only one of you in NJ and one of me in PA. So far it looks like it might be just the two of us (plus my driver ;-) However I seem to remember one of the "Justice twins" (or is that "Justice cousins"?) mentioning Philadelphia. And there was someone named Villanova who may be local, too.

If that's all the LGFers there are here in the Delaware Valley, we seriously need a recruitment campaign!

Yom Kippur begins on Sun Oct 5th. Keeping Oct 4th might be best for now, then change for Nov.

172 Mattman  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 3:07:12pm

Chicago-area LGFers,

The NOrth Suburban choices are all out west; not convenient for me. Maybe someone can propose a venue a little closer to the lake!

173 selpaw  Sun, Sep 21, 2003 3:45:57pm

selpaw is not the author nor did I imply I was. Yikes.
Lizzy wrote
that she did not have 20bucks to spend.
So I jumped in with a response here.
I couldn't help thinking of her and I decided to share the
following "My tribute to Shimon Peres." It was not me as in MY. It was simply the title of the piece.

While I was playing slave to the stove I was turned into an author? If ever we get to share e-mails I will send a picture. With a grandchild old enough (12) for a Bat Mitzvah I look pretty amazing. Call me anything but never old. Not even in implication ; - ))

Nobody from Seattle signed up/voted yet? I don't get it.

It would be neat to meet everyone.

I live in the Sharon region. Jerusalem is kinda far (and I don't have a car, either). Probably the best bet for everyone might be the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (kosher) in Herzlia on a weekday, after the holidays (Oct. 7+/-).

180 selpaw  Mon, Sep 22, 2003 3:54:21am

zulubaby, cba...couldn't get back to lgf last night. I was too busy writing a book ; - ))

Still checking my e-mail ; - ((

181 Joel  Mon, Sep 22, 2003 4:31:34am

Anyone live in the NY area? The day that Rantisi and Yassin finally get it we could have a toast at the Tribeca GrandHotel's bar.

182 Tiassa  Mon, Sep 22, 2003 6:11:18am

Is there really another LGF-er in Utah County, or should I sign up for the SLC meetup?

For that matter, is anyone actually planning to go to the SLC meetup?

Told ya Charles was a busy dude... so I finally broke down and got myself a disposable account for lgf. Click on my name, follow the "safemail" instructions, and I'll email you back w/my real email address.

Looks like only 3 of us in Dallas so far, I voted for La Madeline since its just up the street from my Salsa dance class which is over at 4:30, so I would be able to make it by 4:35.

Who else is in the DC metro area besides myself, Reaganite, and Viking Kitten?

#189 Frank IBC:

Actually, reaganite only visits DC on work assignment on occasion. So you're stuck with me, Occasional Reader, SoCalJustice, and DCLaw(?), and I'm sure there are others who escape me at the moment (Ben F?)

I didn't have much luck with the meetup thing: Me, reaganite, and Occasional arranged what was I believe the first DC LGF get together via email, and its probably time to do it again.

#91 Doctor Bean:

Are any of you nervous that we won't really be able to interact in person without high speed internet connections and funny links to stuff?

Nope. I just happened to be passing through NYC on business when the first NYC get together happened. So far, all of the LGFers I've met have been quite capable of holding their own without wi-fi or a USB port nearby :-)

191 Formerly Stormi, now Mrs Robinson  Tue, Sep 23, 2003 12:35:21pm

All the meetups in Germany are hours away from here. That sucks.

192 Robert Brandtjen  Tue, Sep 23, 2003 1:12:45pm

Those of you in St. Paul and Minnneapolis, I would, rather, recommend Cecil's Deli on Cleveland, besides being the best food around, it's kosher for those who are Jewish.

:-)

193 Julia the Horrible  Wed, Sep 24, 2003 6:44:33pm

Roanoke has 2.7 signed up for Ruby Tuesdays. I wonder what the hell that means. I always knew Roanoke wasnt quite right. I think I will go just to meet the .7 person. I am feeling rather minimalist lately.

Shalom.
