NYT Removes Interview With Assad

Mon, Jan 12, 2004 at 10:05:33 am PST

David Gerstman of Israpundit has discovered yet another possible case of subterfuge on the part of the New York Times, where they suddenly “disappeared” a very inflammatory interview with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, and are now stonewalling Gerstman’s inquiries. Donald Luskin has the details, including Gerstman’s speculations on why the Times might have done this.

It would frost the NYT's asses to republish the interview on a website from the printed copy wouldn't it?

Ok, time to play the Oddsmakers. Was it removed because of...

A) The Bush Tax Cuts
B) The Crushing of Dissent in Ashcroft's Amerika
C) Jewish Gangs
D) Arab Incompetence

#3 - I'd definitely have to go with "B". The amount of right-wing, pro-war, pro-American, anti-dictator speech that is being crushed by the media is just astonishing.

Wait, you mean people think that it's the left-wingers whose dissent is being crushed? Do people believe that because Jeanine Garafalo and Tim Robbins were able to call press conferences and appear on national TV to say so?

Kimberly: There's a 'cool, dark wind' making its presence felt, but I also just had Mexican food for lunch.

Robbins reaching for straws and Sarandon splitting hairs was the best comedy of 2003.

Or is there another version? (Aside from the Arabic version, that is).

How Orwellian.

Does anyone expect the NY Times to act differently?

OT - Since it looks as though Rachel St. Pancake is going to win the award, are there any thoughts as to how we should deliver this award to her parents?

(For those of you who think that question is cruel, remember, she was defending tunnels used to smuggle arms to terrorists with the aim of blowing up children.)

fireman: We could send the award to her parents complete with a complimentary Wall her folks can use to divide their insanity from their stupidity.

In a box of Bisquick mix? Next to a bottle of maple syrup?

12 axiom aka Malik al-Mulook  Mon, Jan 12, 2004 8:56:39am

How about a Tonka Truck? Although, I think I would probably play with it first. Rachel-Cakes will be played by Barbie.

However the award is delivered, I'm sure Rachel's parents will be flattered. Rachel sure was!

Personally, my thought was that we should insribe the words "2003 Idiotarian of the Year" on a rolling pin.

instead of a rolling pin, how 'bout a crepe pan?

Over the holidays, I got in a dispute with my boyfriend's brother when he stated there were 230,000 casualties in Iraq. He said he had read in the NYT that morning. After some digging, I found the casualty count online at NYT, it was 2,300.

Last week, I went looking for it again. It's not there. For the life of me, I could not draw it up using their search feature.

It's possible the NYT site is having technical problems.

OT - There are no WMD's in Iraq.
U.S.-Led Experts to Test Iraqi Shells

Preliminary tests on the plastic-wrapped but damaged shells showed they contained a liquid blister agent.

Oh that. Thats nothing to be concerned about. That was their old WMD. The newer stuff is over there . Like I said, Iraq has no WMD.

Rachel is so happy to receive this award.
Look at her bright smile. :-)

Speaking of St. Pancake, I have a friend that has a trophy business in LA. I'm gonna ask him how much a real "Fiskie" would cost. If its reasonable, I'll have it made up and sent to the Corries.

Rayra (#27),

And it has to have the hateful flag-burning picture of Corrie on it.

You mean like this one presented to the Corries by Arafat?

I like this quote:

"The age of those would indicate that those were probably 10 to 20 years old," he said, adding their location near the border with Iran made it likely they were used in that war.

I really don't get it. How could the shells be live if they've already been used?

Puffed-Up Resume Causes Former NY Times Sportswriter New Job

Has anybody noticed, besides me, that all of this is NOT about the Golan Heights (what Syria calls "the June 4, 1967 borders") but the Jordan River Valley -- 25 square miles of ISRAELI territory taken by Syria during the 1948 aggression.

I repeat, the argument is not over the former Syrian Golan Heights, but over portions of * Israeli * territory Syria believes that it conquered fair and square.

These parcels consist of small portions of the Jordan River, the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and tributary streams that Syria tried to divert before 1967 -- and no doubt intends to try again.

That is why Assad wants the negotiations to start off where former Israeli PM Ehud Barak made loads of concessions and had to back off because no one in Israel would go along.

Even the Peace Now crowd agrees on this one -- no concessions of Israeli territory to Syria: "If Assad wants to come to the Kineret (Sea of Galilee)," one Peace Now leader once said, "Let him get a visa.

#29 - because many of the reporters have no clue as to the subject matter on which they write? They don't bother to fact check, and neither do the editors who are supposed to catch these mistakes.
