Beilin: “Yes to Peace”
An election in Israel shows that even in the very cauldron of Islamic terror, there is a sizeable contingent of people who put poorly defined and naively implemented principles of “peace” above their own survival: Beilin wins race for leadership of Yahad.
Yossi Beilin is the winner of a tight race with MK Ran Cohen Tuesday night for the leadership of the new Yahad Party.
Beilin won 53.5 percent of the votes while Cohen received 46.5 percent, according to official results released late Tuesday.
According to a preliminary segmentation of the votes, Beilin’s main advantage was in the large cities and in the Arab sector, while in the Kibbutz sector there was a virtual tie.
A 70 percent voter turnout was recorded. with 16,000 voters out of 21,000 showing up to cast their ballots.
Beilin arrived Tuesday night at Tel Aviv’s Tzavta Hall for a victory party, where he gave a speech thanking his supporters. He promised he would lead the party “without camps” and with full cooperation.
“This means yes to peace, yes to Geneva, yes to social justice and a welfare state,” Beilin said.
