UN: Disgusting As Always
Somehow I guessed last night that the United Nations would do it again, condemning Israel for defending herself against genocidal killers: UN rights assembly condemns Israeli killing of Hamas founder.
GENEVA (AFP) - The UN Human Rights Commission adopted by a large majority a resolution condemning Israel for the assassination of Palestinian Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.
Only Australia and the United States voted against the resolution sponsored by Pakistan and other Muslim countries. It was adopted by a vote of 31 to two with 18 abstentions including EU countries.
Ireland, which holds the EU presidency, warned that while the 15-nation European Union condemned the targeted killing of Yassin, it could not support a resolution which failed to condemn attacks that Hamas carried out in Israel.
Yassin was killed in an Israeli air raid on Monday morning.
The resolution “strongly condemns the continuing grave violations of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory in particular the tragic assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.”
The text also “notes with grave concern the implications of such targeted assassinations, liquidation and murder of political leadership by the Israeli occupation forces on the overall situation in Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly the possibility of fresh wave of violence.”
Israel warned Wednesday that the credibility of the UN’s top human rights body was at stake over the resolution.
What credibility?
