Ansar al-Islam in Germany
German police have discovered a plan by Islamic terrorists to attack Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi during a visit to Berlin: German Police Arrest Fourth Iraq Attack Suspect.
BERLIN (Reuters) - German authorities have arrested a fourth man in connection with a suspected plan to attack Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi during a visit to Berlin earlier this week, the federal prosecutor’s office said on Saturday.
In a series of raids on Friday, police arrested three Iraqis as suspected members of the militant group Ansar al-Islam following indications the men were planning an attack on Allawi during his visit to the German capital.
The fourth man was arrested in Berlin early on Saturday on suspicion of offering support to the attack plans and of supporting a terrorist organization, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said.
