hmm…. actually, I think that in some ways some progressives are rooting for failure—not failure in actually wishing torment upon anybody, but failure in terms of achieving a psychological vindication. I’ve felt some of that myself, as have several decent people I know who are on the left as well. It’s a feeling—-can’t help it.

There is an element of perverse gloating, even amid the horror of what’s going on. Actually, I wish that more Democrats would acknowledge that—otherwise we end up playing a similar game of denial that the other side plays with nearly everything.

Speaking of denial, Arthur Chrenkoff’s latest installment of good news from Iraq contains 178 links to positive stories. It takes quite a while to read.
