Now that I have our weblog software humming along, Im starting to look at making a few changes in the way things work around here. If it aint broke, always try to fix it, I say.

The first thing Ive done is change the way our URLs work, to make them clearer and more concise. For example, the permalink URL for an individual entry page used to look like:

http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/…
…weblog.php?y=1&x=archives/00001582.htm

Wow. That’s a mouthful. Had to break it into two lines so it didn’t cause the page to expand. I’ve wanted to fix that for a long time, but couldn’t—because Greymatter crashed when I tried to rebuild all files. My new PHP code not only completes the rebuild, it does the job in a fraction of the time. So the new URL for the entry above looks like:

http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/article/1582

Isn’t that nicer? Doesn’t it just make you want to wiggle in delight?

Being the gentleman I am, I implemented these changes in a way that is backward-compatible with the old URL style, so any existing links to individual entry pages will still work.
