Opinion Duel: Can Islam Be Reformed?
At Opinion Duel, a debate between Andrew C. McCarthy and Mansoor Ijaz (who was last noted at LGF when he labeled those of us asking questions about the UAE ports deal “Islamophobic”) on the subject, “Can Islam Be Reformed?” (Hat tip: Raziel.)
The debate demonstrates a very common tactic of Islamic apologists; McCarthy asks pointed, knowledgeable questions about specific passages of the Koran, and in response, Ijaz either obfuscates the facts (for example, he denies that the Islamic jizya is a tax levied on non-Muslims) or else simply ignores the questions. To his credit, McCarthy doesn’t back down and keeps pressing his points—but he never gets satisfactory answers from Ijaz.
