Well, Migration Assistant made a bit of a mess of things, I’m sorry to report. I tried to migrate the user account from my old computer to the new one, using a just-completed Time Machine backup on an external disk. But instead of creating a new user account with the name from the old computer, it imported most of the documents and apps, but created the account as a group on the new computer. When I log in, I don’t see the account in the list; and it shows up in Prefs->Accounts under the ‘Groups’ heading, not users.

Back on the old computer for now, until I figure out if this is fixable or if it would be better to reinstall the OS and start over from scratch.
