Abbas: Sure, Peace, But with Some Killing

Middle East • Views: 2,630

This is the mind-numbingly obvious technique the Palestinians have been getting away with for decades — talking about the “peace process” while threatening (and often committing) violence. Why would anyone expect Mahmoud Abbas to change this pattern of behavior now? Palestinians to keep resistance an option: Abbas.

BETHLEHEM, West Bank (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Abbas told his Fatah movement’s first congress in 20 years on Tuesday that Palestinians sought peace with Israel but “resistance” would remain an option.

Typical Progressive attitude. We gotta break some eggs for a good omelet.

Not dissimilar from BHO. Not that he really wants people killed-- I doubt he does. But, as a true social engineer, he does not care how many lives are ruined or disrupted as long as his social agenda is advanced.

Translation...

We want "peace" on our terms when all the jews are dead and if we don't get our way, we will then be more violent than we already have...

Stop all these farcical attempts at "negotiation" until the Saudis, Syrians and all of the Arab league states: "Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state safe and secure in its own defined borders." I won't hold my breath, but it seems that statement is a prerequisite to any negotiations.

Anytime you ask someone to pledge to something, and they add caveats, you can be sure they have no intention of doing what they ask.

Real caveats don't need to be stated:

Sure I'll give you a ride, unless I break my leg.

Sure I'll take out the trash, unless I have a heart attack and need to be rushed to the ER.

Sure I'll clean my room, unless Godzilla attacks and my room is a pile of timber and plaster dust.

The Palis haven't made a single concession, ever, but all the pressure is on Israel.
Because the world knows the Palis won't do anything, and most countries would shed crocodile tears, if that, over Israel.

And Obama is just making them bolder.
Now they won't even talk unless Israel concedes.
Meanwhile the Arabs have made a gesture towards Israel, but it involves a single finger. Which is the same signal they're giving Obama.
But at last report, the State Department expects to have a peace plan in weeks and a conference soon thereafter.

You know, in some ways it resembles the dialogue between Picard and the Tamarians when they first run into each other:

Picard: I invite you to consider the creation of a mutual non-aggression pact between our two peoples. Possibly leading to a trade agreement and cultural interchange. Does this sound like a reasonable course of action?

Tamarian First Officer: Kadir beneath Mo Moteh (other aliens laugh).

The difference, of course, is that the Tamarians were actually interested in establishing peace. The similarity is that both sides weren't talking the same language for many years.

It's a debate because we can't solve the core problem, and saying so causes too much trouble. If the oil states would throw their support behind Israel, it would change the equation, but they won't. If the U.S. would tell the Arab world they're on their own unless they recognize Israel and stop playing behind the scenes, that would change the equation, but we won't. And so on, and so forth. The status quo sucks, but we aren't coming up with a less sucky approach any time soon.

Israel was not recognized after 1948, when it didn't include Gaza or the West Bank.

Israel was not recognized after 1956 or 1967 or 1982. Or after the disengagement from Gaza in 2005. Or after the disengagement from Lebanon.

Nothing will be sufficient to the Arab dictators and despots except Israel's submission to their will, leading to Israel's ultimate destruction and cessation to be a Jewish state (because if they can't beat 'em in a war, beat 'em with demographics).

Mrs. Hawk's favorite episode. She bought a copy of the script when she found it at an ST con years later.

However annoying I find the circumstances, I'm glad they're coming home.

We can only hope that Bill allowed Kim to plant his (Bill's) cigar in an appropriate location for ... *cough* ... dialogue.

/hey, Kim had to get some sort of emotional pay value out of this

Meanwhile there's been no big coverage that I've seen (I don't go to the purely "anti-jihad/Islam" sites anymore) about the recent massacre of Christians in Pakistan. Just another day in the Religion of Peace?

Pakistan hurt by killing of Christians-church head

LONDON (Reuters) - The death of eight Christians burned alive in clashes with majority Muslims has diminished Pakistan and injured the Muslim faith, the spiritual head of the world's 77 million Anglicans said on Tuesday.

Four women and a child were among those killed in the violence which broke out in Punjab province, central Pakistan, on Saturday, after Muslims torched Christians' homes following allegations one had desecrated the Koran.

Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury

and spiritual head of the Anglican church, called on the Pakistan government to protect the "small and vulnerable" Christian minority...

The State Department said nothing about yesterday. However, they did express outrage with Israel over the fact that some illegal squatters where removed from homes in Jerusalem.

Probably, but if we open up Cash for Clunkers for Cuba , we'll go broke
quick.

Yeah, but the Cubans are driving around in valuable classic cars (just ask Avanti). If we ever had free trade they'd have an instant infusion of cash.

Serious musing here... do you suppose the hatred against the Jews stems from the fact that they don't go quietly like other victims of genocide but that they fight, survive and rebuild? Making the desert flower can be a dangerous business when your neighbors get jealous but don't want to do the work to get there themselves. Ask any number of prosperous sects throughout history.

I don't think that's all of it, but I do think that there is a complex strain of hostility toward Jews that does stem from those sources.

Both the Middle Eastern and European world was long used to Jews NOT fighting back because the mans were not available. The emergence of the uppity and armed-to-the-teeth Jew was not a welcome development.

In addition, in the West, there's a weird set of ideas about the universality of the Holocaust. A lot of these anti-Israel girls at the demos cried over Anne Frank, but have a totally depoliticized understanding of Jewish history and what actually happened in the late forties, coupled with a knee-jerk political/racial understanding of The World As We Know It. Basically--dead Jews, sad and wonderful. Live, imperfect, powerful Jews, bad eeevil, bad bad bad.

And of course, the amazing success of Israel, financially and socially, was a smack in the face to the Arab world, who have now spent a couple of generations explaining that they can't build infrastructure, publish books, do research or even sleep at night, because of the suffering of their Palestinian brethren and sistren.

If that is it, it was a deal. I am guessing they extracted something out of the US. I am just glad those two are leaving that shithole.

Actually, Fox said it was deal for the NORKS too. Dear Leader gets some much needed PR before the shift of power. Kind of a "See how important we are" deal. It's also likely Clinton will be bringing back some sort of message.

Good question. Just the existence of Jews after all these years means something. Mark Twain said it is evidence of G-d.
And I think this makes some people uncomfortable.
It means there is a purpose to life; it isn't just watching American Idol. It means people should try to be good, even if it is hard, if it takes self-restraint, self-negation, and self-sacrifice.
It makes some people feel inferior (although being the "Chosen People" doesn't mean Jews are better than anyone else, just that they have to meet higher standards).
It is a reminder that there is good and evil.

All this, I think, hints at the root cause of anti-Semitism. But we won't really understand it until Mashiach (the coming of the Messiah).

Sick!

Yes, they are our allies, and the Saudis are our allies, and back in the 80s, every tin-pot fascist who'd say he was anti-Commie was our ally. Some days I wish we could just pick our friends by how nice they are.

Sigh. We could have a tea party. No wait...

I haven't read the book, but based on what I've heard about it, it sounds as though your question may be answered by George Gilder's "The Israel Test". I probably will read it, but I will mention here that my interest was somewhat tempered when I learned that the author is a founder of the Discovery Institute. You can see a small part of the book on Amazon, and I noticed in the index the obligatory reference to "Darwinian laws of nature (Hitler)". There's also a reference to David Berlinski, a man whom I once saw extinguishing himself in front of Richard Dawkins and John Maynard Smith.

This message was made possible by a grant from Moral Equivalency. Through the magic of Moral Equivalency, evil is made to look just like good. We are able to justify any action, no matter how reprehensible by pointing out some other atrocity which occurred and claiming that it is the same as the perceived grievances we have suffered. (Check points are morally equivalent to mass genocide. Different colored license plates are morally equivalent to kidnapping Olympic athletes and killing them.) We also use it to claim things which have no basis in reality. (We are interested in peace, and not the inhalation of every Jew on the planet. We are willing to accept a two state solution, even all of our maps show only one nation with a, "Palestinian," flag flying solo.)

The truly sad part of all of this, is that even after 61 years of this, there are a lot of people who either completely lack an adult memory, or are dangerously gullible.

News?

Walter, in regards to our discussion of the CARS (CFC) data, I have a update. The government did just release the results of the raw data on the program, but the actual raw data is still being prepared. I think we'd both agree the MSN has the right to check the figures themselves and those numbers will be coming soon according to the transportation department.

Here again is the results, according to the department.
