I consider attacks on secularism to be extreme. And I’m a practicing Catholic. Leave the church in the village and don’t shove it into politics, thank you very much. Not when we have so many different churches in this great country.

A slightly OT aside on Michael Long and his personal politics and worldview.

A few years back, his son, FDNY firefighter Matthew Long was nearly killed in a bike accident. The accident occurred because his son was biking to work during the transit strike called by TWU Local 100; Long blamed the union for his son’s injuries. I have no doubt that this seriously affects his views on unions and political views in general.

His dissatisfaction with the GOP these days is running so deep that he’s calling on conservatives to stop contributing to the NRCC. This too may be a personal catfight between top conservative/GOP leaders in NYS; and that’s spilling over into the national GOP schism developing between right wing and all others.

The fact that government is about to mandate that employers provide contraceptives to their employees oversteps its role in requiring what kind of coverage employees need to be healthy. […]

I doubt true conservatives are any more concerned about it than liberals were that Obama hosted a group called “Marxists/Socialists/Communists for Obama” on his official campaign website.

Now, I don’t think that makes Obama a Communist, so I’m not sure why the fact McCain supports Hoffman is supposed to tell us anything about Hoffman.

I see Gus found another link that is typical of fascism- anti-intoxicants:

CONSERVATIVES CAST CANNABIS AS DANGEROUS DRUG

The New York State Conservative Party is urging the Members of the Legislature to reject efforts to legalize the use of medical cannabis. The following legislative memo in opposition, stating the Party’s concerns follows:

The justification section of the senate support memo states that “medical evidence has shown that medical cannabis, commonly know as “medical marihuana” can prove effective in treating the side effects and pain of certain serious diseases and conditions.” However, no where in the memo does it site where the “medical evidence” is from. The Federal Drug Administration? The Institute of Medicine?

Both of these organizations are opposed to sanctioning medical marihuana. In fact those who promote it to assist desperately ill people reveal their true intent to legalize marihuana for recreational use by opposing the further development of safe and effective cannabis-based, laboratory engineered medicines that would reduce or eliminate the dangerous hallucinogenic side effects of crude marihuana.

As much as I disagree with them, I fear that their methods will be fruitful. They are getting really average folks to openly declare intolerance they once hid. The leaders may not be grass roots but those who react with agreement I think are.

The books are open for political re-alignment in the US. I think the only thing marginalized is the political poles before summer of 2008. What’s going on now is attempts to carve new cleavages from any weak spot.

It’s very common for fascists to be misogynists. It’s a woman’s place to help her nation by producing more citizens.
Encouraging women to have more children is extremely common even in liberal democracies. For example in Australia the government pays a “baby bonus” to mothers of around $3000. Obviously women should not be coerced, but birth rates have obvious social and economic consequences and it’s legitimate for the government to take an interest in a woman’s reproductive decisions and incentivise some behaviours over others. It’s not strictly a fascist thing.

To be fair, Sharm, that link is inexact. I’m anti-intoxicant, but I’m not a fascist. Sometimes there are personal matters in play that sway people to oppose intoxicants.

DF- it’s a combination of their entire platform I find having fascist odors, not one position by itself. I knew that would bother you too, and that’s not my position at all to make you feel that way.

You can’t point out one aspect and yell “fascism!” and that’s not what I do. I’m quite willing to say it when the combined elements are there, and that’s what I saw standing out like a sore thumb from the videos and links. Combined with other positions to create a whole picture- I felt comfortable stating I think they reek of fascism.

To think pointing out one element means I think that of you or others who share that position for other reasons isn’t my intent ever. My apologies.

re: #87 Gus 802

Recently I came across another conservative opinion that at least supported medical marijuana.

Pain can be a hell of a convincer. After my last pacemaker replacement the docs prescribed a painkiller and restarted my bloodthinning medication. I think the blood thinning started just a little too soon, I had a bruise from just below my ribs to my waist; and from my navel all the way around to the small of my back. The painkiller didn’t do a damn thing except make me sleepy.

I slept sitting up in an unpadded chair - I couldn’t lie down or sit back up without aching to high heaven and getting out of a recliner hurt too much. I did this for nine nights while waiting for a doctor’s appointment so he could examine me and prescribe a different painkiller.

I hurt so bad that I told him that if it was going to hurt like this, then when this pacemaker battery ran down, I’d just take my chances. And I was serious.

But that’s not restricting a woman’s choice, that’s offering an incentive she can freely choose or not choose. Denying women the opportunity to have birth control when they want it isn’t the same principle at all.

I find it telling he won’t participate in the debate. His campaign in the article I read said it was because they say Dede’s no longer a relevant candidate and that the real campaign is between him and the Democratic candidate but they can’t say that with a straight face. Yeah there are polls that have him leading the race but they come from the Club for Growth who is one of his biggest backers. Another poll I saw had the Democrat leading followed by Dede and then Hoffman. Plus, you would think that a debate would be a good way to get his message across.

I wonder sometimes. For a Constitutional democracy how we ended up with so many politicians that feel compelled to control human behaviors, sciences, etc. Even recently, people claiming to be “Constitutionalists” seem to be intent on “controlling” human behavior. The very same people that spread the “you can’t legislate morality” talking point are the same ones that want to legislate morality in their own view.

IMHO environmentally-motivated discincentives are pointless, because any reduction in population will be compensated for by an influx of immigrants to make up the numbers. Economic realities more or less dictate that. Incidentally that’s why a lot of these nativists/rightists take such an interest in reproductive issues, they figure that if the birth rate goes down then more immigrants will be brought in to balance out a demographically top-heavy “aging” population.

You bring up a great point. While the dominionist aspect certainly means they want to control female sexuality, coupled with the nativist aspect, they certainly don’t want reduced birthrates to turn into increased immigration, even if certain segments of those immigrants would be fellow Christians with strong family values. But these people are not the conservatives that Barry Goldwater described in his book The Conscience of a Conservative at all. I’m willing to bet 25% of the people supporting Ron Paul do so only because he favors drug legalization. It’s not a stupid position for Republicans to take in order to try and win some of the independent vote, plus it’s consistent with the idea of a non-obtrusive government.

169 theheat  Wed, Oct 28, 2009 8:28:11pm

Why Dede thinks she’s a conservative:

Dede Scozzafava is a lifelong resident of the North Country, a businesswoman, former Mayor of the Village of Gouverneur, and has served in the New York Assembly since 1998. She calls herself a “fiscal conservative” who’s been endorsed by the New York State United Teachers, the National Rifle Association and Newt Gingrich.

Like other Republicans, Scozzafava says she supports lower taxes, less government spending and health care reform. She also supports same-sex marriage and abortion rights.

While in the Assembly, Scozzafava twice voted in favor of bills that would allow same-sex marriage in New York. She sees it as upholding the Constitution and not inconsistent with conservative values. “I believe individuals have choices to make not government. That’s a conservative position to have” “If you go back to the core principals of the Republican Party, they were founded on individual freedoms, less government in our lives. I believe I’m a true Republican.

Some political ads have portrayed Scozzafava as a liberal, who voted many times to increase taxes and spending. She calls that a distortion. Scozzafava says she voted against Governor Paterson’s tax and fee hikes. She added the so-called tax increases she did approve, were for such things as sales tax extensions requested by local governments.

Obviously, none of that matters, since she’s pro-choice and pro-gay.

I’m getting The Sanity Inspector’s web site URL now put in there now. Leading up to it the only thing I can think of that I did that might cause this was that I clicked on the reference to his comment in your #173 two threads down (The Obama UN one) to see what you were talking about and just saw a deleted post. I think I clicked on the football from there too. Perhaps that can help track down a bug of some kind. I’m on Safari 4.0.3 on Win 7.

What’s always amused me about social cons is how they talk about how gays and secularists are ruining their freedom of religion but these are the same people who support things like banning or making hard to access pornography, banning gay marriage, and banning gambling. I am against abortion personally and politically but I really hate the rhetoric that the Christian right uses on that issue.

The entire “Christian right” position, I found, hinges on the question: Is life special or not? They believe yes. And every time something like this is discovered, it’s a little less special. I think life is special, but after that breakthrough, I can imagine it as a commodity in the not too distant future. The “Christian right,” whatever that means, is scared, and in an un-terse way, probably reasonably so.

And he’s said a lot of pro-Bush stuff in the past, before Bush’s approval ratings slid down into steerage. Google “sunny nobility”. Would a left-wing partisan propagandist say something like that?

It’s not really good television, at any rate. It’s a lot of soundbites and yelling and it’s only interesting as sport. But he’s not a liberal table pounding partisan like Olbermann, and he’s not tossing movie prop gasoline on interns and going Birch-apalooza like Beck.

This is another thing I am curious about. I’ve known many Catholics over the years who oppose both abortion and the death penalty but it seems to me in my observations that conservative Christians tend to be supporters of the DP and opponents of abortion. Just seems contradictory to me. Plus, I’ve never understood why they feel the need to ban things like gay marriage and gambling. No one is for as far as I know forcing churches to perform gay marriages. Plus what do they say to the churches who want to perform gay marriages.

Slight correction- “conservative” issues since they call themselves “conservatives”.

But these people are not the conservatives that Barry Goldwater described in his book The Conscience of a Conservative at all. In fact, he’s rolling in his grave that these people hijacked his movement and nade a mockery of what he stood for. They would call him a RINO today, but I bet not a single one of them have read the man’s book, so I have to wonder if these people have any idea what a “conservative” is. Do they even know what a republican is to call other people RINOs?

I’m actually all in favor of these people leaving the party for the theocratic nativist parties. They will be replaced by the RINOs and Reagan democrats who will come back to the GOP once we kick the kooks to the curb. Might take a few election cycles, but it’s long since time the cleaning was done.

A fine point. These are wedge issue “conservatives”. As a Texas Dem, this what I see in general in this State. Would that there were an alternative. I have voted for local Rs who are folks I know and trust. At the State level, they tend to be loons.

From Wiki:

Hutchison supports the legality of abortion but has frequently voted for restricting abortion. Hutchison has often been rated highly by pro-life organizations receiving a 94% rating from the National Right to Life Committee. She is opposed to taxpayer-funded abortion and supports restrictions such as parental notification and making it illegal to transport a minor across state lines in order to circumvent parental notification laws. She also believes that the decision of the United States Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade was appropriate and should not be overturned, but is opposed to the Freedom of Choice Act because it would restrict the right of states to impose restrictions on abortion. In the past years NARAL has given her ratings of 0%, 7%, 20%, and 0%, indicating that her voting record mostly favored enacting proposed abortion restrictions…

Kay Bailey Hutchison is a far left extremist!

Unfortunately I think Charles predicted exactly right, the Republicans are in for a long trek through the desert. This is from New Majority, commenting on a Kristol article:

Interesting column today by Bill Kristol in the Washington Post.

[F]ully 72 percent of Republicans say they’re conservative. …

The implications of this for the Republican Party over the remaining three years of the Obama presidency are clear: The GOP is going to be pretty unapologetically conservative. There aren’t going to be a lot of moderate Republican victories in intra -party skirmishes. And — with the caveat that the political world can, of course, change quickly — there will be a conservative Republican presidential nominee in 2012.

That seems right. But one addition to the math: Since only about 20% of Americans currently identify as Republicans, Bill’s numbers imply that conservative Republicans currently constitute about 14.4% of the population.

So while Bill’s predictions of continuing conservative/populist dominance within the GOP look accurate, the future looks much bleaker for the GOP itself. As Bill himself acknowledges:

In last week’s Post-ABC News poll, a plurality of respondents disapproved of Obama-type health-care reform. In other words, they agree with the Republicans in Congress. But when asked how much confidence they had in congressional Republicans to make the right decisions for the country’s future, only 19 percent of respondents expressed much confidence in the GOP — well behind the confidence levels in congressional Democrats (34 percent) and Obama (49 percent).

We have a good definition of human death in relation to organ donors. No functioning forebrain, no human. They are legally no longer human. The Death Penalty? In some states they can’t even keep violent offenders in jail for life, much less get the death penalty. I would settle for that- life with no parole, especially for some of these sex offenders.

That’s one reason why I favor decriminalizing marijuana- so that we can free up space in our prisons for the people who are the most dangerous to society.

But then you have the theo-cons who want to make practically everything a crime. If you don’t believe me, look up Rushdoony. We were discussing the UN blasphemy resolution- these people would make the OIC look tame. Blasphemy would be a capital crime under dominionist law. And you wonder why they favor the death penalty?

FWIW I used to be a pretty big anti death penalty activist. The movement is overwhelmingly Christian based. There are a lot of people who are consistent on this issue and stil otherwise conservative. At vigils on execution nights I’d often be one of the few non-Christians there. If you want to talk about government reaching too far, it doesn’t get much farther than that. I’m a bit sympathetic to lynch mobs and vigilantes though.

He is a conservative. It’s the far-right wingers who are not.

No kidding! Whatever happened to love for the “Contract with America”? When those of us left of center start seeing Newt as the voice of reason, things have gone SERIOUSLY haywire.

I KNOW RITE?!?!?!

Seriously, Newt by comparison is like a hippie playing hacky-sack next to the co-op compared to the people vying for supremacy in the GOP now. They’re trying to cast Kay Bailey Hutchison as a RINO. I occasionally have to look outside and make sure the moon isn’t square and the streets aren’t filled with Bizarro Supermans.

re: #221 MandyManners

How so?

The death penalty will never cause a book burning. Executions have happened throughout history. The commoditization of the reproductive process…that change in the moral calculus, scares otherwise reasonable people into a religous argument.

The war on science is an attempt to shut-in by the religious groups. They would rather stick with the morals (devil) you know than what might emerge. Same argument for evolution. The more the makings of life (bacteria, babies, or otherwise) are technologically feasible, the less value it has. It’s economic theory shrouded in religion. It’s the only way they can get their message across.

Unfortunately I think Charles predicted exactly right, the Republicans are in for a long trek through the desert. This is from New Majority, commenting on a Kristol article:

I’m starting to think it might be a very long trek. There’s always been a regressive instinct with conservatives but it seems that they’re retreating from American public opinion at an increasing rate. On issues like evolution, science, gay marriage, global warming, race issues, immigration, etc they are simply going to find themselves on the wrong side of history. Even with the fiscal conservatives it seems that they are going to end up wrong on economic stimulus and TARP. I wonder how long this is going to go on. I seriously doubt any of the conservative players today are going to survive politically to see the future of conservatism. Whatever the future is, this ain’t it.

We have a good definition of human death in relation to organ donors. No functioning forebrain, no human. They are legally no longer human. If the same criteria were placed on fetuses, well, you can see where that would lead. Anything earlier than 20 - 24 weeks (the science is still out) would also classify as not human.

Why are half the articles on Draft Dede about how clever it would be to trick people into voting for her and the other half about what a disaster she is?

Why would a Democrat write something like:

It took years for one of ours to finally infiltrate the National Republican Party apparatus and wreak civil war within the GOP. Call it the Socialist Watergate of 2009, but with Scozzafava as the Republican nominee in NY-23 we will finally have the keys to the National Republican Party — and with it — almost certain access to all its ugly organs of operation…
When Dede wins, she will carry our water and also give us greater insight into the broader internal workings of the right-wing nuts running the corrupt partisans, otherwise known as the Republican House Caucus (talk about a self-inflicted wound)…
Dede Scozzafava, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This could be one of the greatest “Alinksy” coups of all time.

… and I’m telling you all this, Mr. Bond, because you won’t be alive to see it.

Why would anyone write anything like that?

Except to rat fuck someone.

In The Man Who Was Thursday, a secret organization of anarchists disguises itself as a secret organization of anarchists, but I’m pretty sure Chesterton was kidding. I think Draft Dede only exists in some creepy liar’s head and the Hoffman campaign either knows, or should know.

Speaking of outgoobering, have you seen the secessionist candidate, Larry Kilgore? This is the first time I’ve read a strategy for piecemeal, county-by-county Dominionism.

Does Mr. Kilgore want Texas to have freedom of religion? Yes. Each county undoubtedly reflects a unique set of beliefs and values and each county needs the freedom to create legislation that reflects that diversity. While Mr. Kilgore values Biblical Law, he realizes that Biblical Law must be embraced by individuals in a society. To move from the evils of statism to the evils of ecclesiocracy is no improvement at all. Biblical Law puts both church and state under God’s authority to maximize liberty for all. Therefore, those counties whose citizens value Biblical Law must be free to govern themselves according to it; those whose citizens reject Biblical Law must be free to create their own forms of legislation.facebook.com

Apparently so. Bad Bond villians, I guess. Look at this:

Scozzafava Successfully Infiltrates the Republican Apparatus:
The Left Finally Cracks Into the National GOP Establishment and Dede Scozzafava is Already Turning All the Right-Wing Animals Loose on Themselves!!!

But here is the real question: Why is Hoffman’s site promoting that as if it were real???

Here’s something less amusing — but more revealing — about Doug Hoffman’s website: It contains an Internet era update of a dirty trick Nixon’s men used to call “rat fucking.”

Dems love Dede
According to the Draft Dede as a Democrat blog, “we will have her on all of our key issues from card check, to health care, to taxes, social issues and who knows what else.”

And then it has the web address of a blog called PlanetAlbany, linking to a blog called Draft Dede as a Democrat. Pretty damning stuff, right? Dede Scozzafava - Hoffman’s Republican opponent - is actually a Democrat! And the proof is right there in this blog that links to this other blog, by some Democrats so proud of Dede Scozzafava that they prefer to remain completely anonymous.

Laup Norian land scam: The Freedom County project

One variable trait I’ve encountered in my years as a newspaper reporter, editor and blogger has been that libertarians like to get scammed. They really do. They ultimately like to get scammed out of money and or donate money to a cause they won’t see any real investment on.

Take for instance the latest “project,” the Freedom County, Texas movement. Move a bunch of people on one plot of land, get everyone off the grid, grow your own food, take care of your own family, don’t trust the governnment, etcetera. One must not be a member of the lunatic fringe to participate. There are actually some states that were founded on this notion (Vermont, to give one example.)

But one must pay Linda Hunnicutt, the so-called Ron Paul “Granny Warrior,” $1,000 for a “camp site” and $5,000 for one acre of land in a 50-acre spread for property that is worth $325 an acre in some parts where this project is eyeing.elliscountyobserver.com

Obama Heads To Dover Air Force Base To Honor Fallen Soldiers

President Barack Obama made an overnight dash Wednesday to Dover Air Force Base to honor the return of fallen soldiers, absorbing the ultimate cost of war as the United States endures its deadliest month of the Afghanistan campaign.

On a clear fall night, Obama flew by Marine One helicopter directly to Delaware to greet the flag-draped caskets of 18 Americans killed in action this week.

The unannounced trip began around midnight and was expected to have the president back at the White House before dawn on Thursday.

True dat.
BUT I love when he goes after someone who refuses to answer a simple question. Just answer the damn question…

Matthews is a tool, for sure. Not because he’s partisan— long before Obama made his leg tingle, he was rhapsodising about how Bush ‘glimmers with sunny nobility’ (in 2005)— but because he’s a vacuous hack whose only guiding principle is the Beltway ethos of repeating the standard narratives and worrying only about retaining access to cocktail parties and whoever is in power.

That being said, every once in a while he does seem to have a moment of clarity where he corners someone and hammers them, and those are cool. Pity it’s so seldom.

Oh, twenty or thirty. Hate Crime legislation is all about thought crime, dontcha know. It has no place in modern society. Stringing up negroes or beating down queers is all about keeping them in their place. This whole concept of Hate Crimes is completely unnecessary.

In fact, Bush went to extraordinary lengths to avoid ever confronting the human cost of the Iraq War.

Over the past 39 1/2 months, more than 2,500 American soldiers have lost their lives in Iraq. Yet during this entire time — well more than three years — George W. Bush has not attended a single funeral for a soldier who perished during the Iraq conflict. Not one.

My source? That hippie rag Stars and Stripes.

How Bush Deals With Grieving Military Families

In emotional private meetings with the families of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Bush offers solace—and seeks some of his own.

Read the whole story - its from MSLSD no less.

Aug. 22, 2005 issue - The grieving room was arranged like a doctor’s office. The families and loved ones of 33 soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan were summoned to a large waiting area at Fort Bragg, N.C. For three hours, they were rotated through five private rooms, where they met with President George W. Bush, accompanied by two Secret Service men and a photographer. Because the walls were thin, the families awaiting their turn could hear the crying inside.

President Bush was wearing “a huge smile,” but his eyes were red and he looked drained by the time he got to the last widow, Crystal Owen, a third-grade schoolteacher who had lost her husband in Iraq. “Tell me about Mike,” he said immediately. “I don’t want my husband’s death to be in vain,” she told him. The president apologized repeatedly for her husband’s death. When Owen began to cry, Bush grabbed her hands. “Don’t worry, don’t worry,” he said, though his choking voice suggested that he had worries of his own. The president and the widow hugged. “It felt like he could have been my dad,” Owen recalled to NEWSWEEK. “It was like we were old friends. It almost makes me sad. In a way, I wish he weren’t the president, just so I could talk to him all the time.”

Yeah, that prick Bush could care less about our fallen soldiers.

Ventura is the executive producer.

The presser doc (available at that link) says:

Ventura has a reputation as a rebel and free-thinker. He’s passionate about the world of conspiracy theories, holds many non-mainstream opinions and has no qualms about questioning authority. He’ll plunge viewers into a world of secret meetings, midnight surveillance, shifty characters and dark forces.

CONSPIRACY THEORY puts Ventura on the road with investigative producers June Sarpong and Alex Piper and executive producer Michael Braverman. They’re on a mission to examine possible conspiracies surrounding secret societies, global warming, alleged 9/11 cover-ups, a research center in Alaska that could be a secret government weapon and apocalyptic prophecies, to name a few. They talk to experts, eyewitnesses and examine available evidence.

“This is my personal journey to prove that there is more to these stories than you know about,” Ventura said. “We have credible sources stating their beliefs, and we look into those theories, but ultimately, you will have to be the judge.”

2. They both come from backgrounds not usually leading to public office, which leads to them being viewed as “outsiders”, which is helpful in appealing to voters.

Meh, the topic came up. Raised by other people entirely, I might add, and it’s been a remarkably acrimony-free conversation, considering that this is a blog with commenters all across the political spectrum and issues around the Iraq War are even now going to be probably the most bitter.

In short, ask not for whom the butthurt tolls…it may toll for thee.

re: #338 Conservative Moonbat

Just to be fair, do we know if Obama has made any personal calls to the families of troops killed in action? I know Bush did not.

Along those lines, Obama to meet plane carrying fallen soldiers in Afghanistan

Just got around to watching the Hardball video. I love this guy, he’s against “the government” intruding into anything. Unless that intervention is to prevent abortions, or restrict the civil rights of gays. Then they LUUURVE the government interjecting itself. I also enjoyed watching him dance around Matthew’s evolution questions.

re: #45 Sharmuta

I went to check on agent stacy mccain of the vlaams belang tonight to find him almost exclusively covering this NY 23 race for hoffman. Are any of these “true conservatives” in NY bothered by this association?

I kinda doubt it. Most of them are probably of the sort that defended Vlaams Belang back in the LGF vs. Gateway Pundit squabbling days.

This will put me out of step here, but if the choice is between a Theocon and a Rino, my money and vote go to the Theocon. I don’t believe the majority of conservatives want any type of theocracy, nor will they allow it. Worst case we have the courts to protect us against it. We have no such buffer with Rinos.

I have read Hoffmans website and a few of his speech’s and have found no indication he is a Theocon, but rather a successful business man with conservative values. It would bother me if he supports teaching ID in the science class, but in these troubling times in Washington I can’t afford to be a single issue voter.

How exactly is Scozzafezza a RINO? Because she isn’t pro-life?

What’s the problem with English being the official language?

Well, I have to admit. Other than opinions I can’t corroborate that she is a Rino. Her voting record, now that I took the time to read it, appears fairly conservative. As is her stance on energy. She seems pro business.

Pro life and gay marriage are two issues that frankly I wish the GOP would just put to rest.

So, unless I can find some substantiating information to establish her Rino creed, I will recant my previous post.

In fact, I will take it one step further, if the only reason Palin endorsed Hoffman was the issues of abortion and gay marriage, she will also loose my support.

What impressed me is that Matthews gave Long every chance to come out for “conservative values” like repealing abortion laws and banning gay marriage and Long just danced around on them

I wish I had the means to fly myself and a few other folk out for a counter-demonstration across the street. Just to annoy them. To videotape their disgust and rage would be quite the joy.

Sorry to comment on a dead thread but I just got to see this. The second video starts with a shot of a very archaic flag of some sort…it looked real familiar to me though…I’m something of a medieval history buff. The flag is a near replica of the Oriflamme. It was the flag that the French unfurled on the battlefield which signaled that there were to be no prisoners taken. It was last used on the battlefield in the 15th century…which seems right about where these morons have their heads.
