Tech Note: LGF Pages Statistics Explained
I figure it’s time for an explanation of all those numbers that are showing up in your LGF Pages, so let’s have at it.
Here’s the title line from a sample page by Killgore Trout, with the relevant areas numbered.
1. At the top right of each Page you’ll see the rating buttons (+ and -) and the Page’s current rating. This is a sort of popularity index, showing how much registered LGF readers like the Page.
2. The blue number shows how many times the j.mp shortened URL for this Page has been clicked, either from Twitter or anywhere else the shortened link appears. This is a rough measure of Twitter popularity. (Note: it may take a few seconds for this number to appear, while the LGF Blog code communicates with j.mp’s servers to get the latest stats.) Next to the blue number is its associated blue Twitter button, that lets you post a link to the Page in your Twitter feed.
3. “Clicks” shows how many times the link to this Page has been clicked from somewhere on LGF — either from the front page, or from the LGF Pages index screen — plus the number of times any outgoing links embedded in the Page’s text have been clicked.
4. New feature! “Views” shows the number of times this individual Page (the Page with comments) has actually been loaded and viewed by a browser. Since it’s a new feature, most Pages have a very low “Views” count right now, but this will soon be useful as a measure of how many incoming links the Page is getting.
And by the way, you don’t see those “edit” and “delete” buttons (in the line with the blue Twitter button) unless you’re the Page’s author or an administrator.
