Wingnut Blog Fail of the Day: Aaron Worthing
I woke up today feeling masochistic, I guess, because I spent about 15 minutes having a look around the wingnut blogosphere to see what was shaking in the Land of Epistemic Closure.
The Daily Caller has an article accusing Glenn Beck of using the work of numerous right wing loons (such as Andrew Breitbart) without attribution. The loons apparently want to make sure they get credit for inspiring the most batshit insane TV personality in history. And I say, go for it! Take your glory back!
This tale of “content theft” spurred Aaron Worthing, one of the bloggers at Patterico (the wingnut site run by Deputy District Attorney John Patrick Frey of the Hardcore Gang Division, LA County, Compton), to complain bitterly that his groundbreaking work proving climate change to be a hoax had also been stolen, by a writer at the website of hack global warming denier Anthony Watts, “Watt’s Up With That:” Patterico’s Pontifications » Watts Up With Taking Content Without Attribution?
Worthing goes on at length about the timestamps on his post compared to the timestamps on the post at Watts Up, concluding with great magnanimity:
…this is much more about the message in my book than the messenger. The message is that the science is broken. The message is that the chicken-littles keep making predictions that turn out wrong, but it doesn’t lead them to revise their theories. And when you call them on it, the original, laughably bad prediction disappears. The message is that they want to restrict my freedom and trash the economy when they can’t even be sure the problem is real.
That much, in itself, already qualifies as a major fail, just because of its ignorant anti-science density. But the really exceptional fail is buried in the midst of Worthing’s seemingly interminable whine. As he investigated the timestamp on this theft of his genius-level work, he encountered something that evoked a masterpiece of derp:
As for Gavin’s post, it’s listed at 1:20 a.m. in something called UTC (which I guess is one of the Asian time zones) and I am unsure how to translate it into my time.
Paraphrase: “Them damn Chinee furriners — now they’re stealin’ our time! What’s next, our womenfolk?”
(Here, Aaron. Let me Google that for you.)
But seriously. This really is the right wing mindset in a nutshell, emphasis on “nut.” He’s never heard of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), thinks it must be something “Asian,” and is too lazy to spend 10 seconds Googling it, yet he still feels completely qualified to dismiss the conclusions of the entire world’s climate scientists.
Aaron Worthing, you ARE the fail of the day. And you get all the credit for it.
