Teen accused in Chamberlain rape to be released without bail
TAMPA --
The teenager accused of dragging a fellow Chamberlain High School student into a bathroom and raping her was released from jail today, deputies said.
Bail for Joshua Deandre Bynum, 16, was set last month at $100,000. But during a hearing Tuesday it was agreed he would be released without bail if he followed certain requirements.
As part of the agreement Bynum, who is charged with sexual battery and kidnapping, must wear a GPS monitor, stay home between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and attend a different school than the victim, state attorney's spokesman Mark Cox said.
The agreement was made with consent of the victim's mother, who didn't want her daughter to have to appear in court Tuesday, Cox said.
Police said Bynum spotted the 16-year-old victim walking in the school's hallway Oct. 3 and began following her.
The girl, who had a hall pass for the bathroom, walked past the school's gym. That's when police said Bynum grabbed her, dragged her into a bathroom and sexually assaulted her. Then, police said, Bynum returned to class.

So, they're letting this kid back into skool? I'm hoping it's one for kids in trouble with the law, not just a randon high skool. What fucking bullshit.
And here is the original story:
[Link: www.tampabay.com...]
Authorities did a medical exam and interviewed the young woman and her suspected attacker, an acquaintance, after Monday's incident. That evening, police arrested Joshua Bynum, 16, on charges of sexual battery and kidnapping. Police say his statements were inconsistent and were refuted by a medical test.

Until he's convicted, they can't put him in any sort of juvie school, I believe.
His father said that Bynum said the sex was consensual. Either a gullible father, or that's where his son gets his ethics from.
In addition to the anti-intellectual bullshit we have in the US destroying our educational system, we also have a discipline problem. I know this is far more severe than bullying, but it's happening in the same environment. The indulgence of anti-social behavior is a bad, bad thing.

I know his dad said it was consensual, but this line does follow:
Police say evidence and interviews show otherwise.
And don't get me wrong, I know parents want to give their kids the benefit of the doubt. My mom would pretty much believe anything I told her. But still, to go from 100K bail to being released isn't common, juvie or otherwise.
26 | Obdicut Thu, Nov 3, 2011 4:00:02am |
re: #25 Cannadian Club Akbar
The bail issue I'm just ignorant about and happy to accept your word on. The consensual part-- I was taking it as a given that it was non-consensual, which is why I called his dad either gullible or the source of his son's ethics.
Why do you think the bail was granted? Just more permissiveness of sexual misconduct, or special treatment for some reason?

A lot of my daughter's students in juvie jail are awaiting trial. As is normally the case, we're getting a fragment of the facts. Flawed as it is, the system usually has some rationale behind it.

I'm wondering if the kids lawyer knew the girl wouldn't appear in court if a bail reduction hearing was held. If so, I don't blame the lawyer for doing his job. But the victim's mother agreed to the release, either to keep her daughter out of it, or maybe some new fact did come out. But the girls initial reaction to this wasn't one of a girl trying to get someone in trouble.
Then he returned to class. The girl, shaken and crying, found Chamberlain High School's police resource officer.
Can this be faked? Yes. Probability? IMO, low.

Not suggesting it's a fake, just that a whole lot of things are involved in bail, like his likelihood to make court and to present a continuing threat. Don't argue with me--I've watched Law'n Order for years.

Son comes in at 3am. Father is waiting up, demainding an explanation.
"Well, father," the son starts, "I guess I should tell you the truth. I had my first sexual experience this evening."
"Well, that's different," replies the father. "Have a drink and sit down and tell me about it."

Christine "bad theology" O'Donnel betrayed her ignorance when she said you should never ever lie, even to the Gestapo about where Jews are hiding.
The Bible forbids us to "bear false witness against our neighbor", which means the sort of malicious lie that brings harm to them. There are a lot of lies that do not fall under that category, like lying to the Gestapo...

The following week he goes into the bar, orders 2 drafts. The bartender says, "I can give you those beers one at a time if you'd like". Guy explains, "Well, my one brother is a cowboy in Utah, the other is a cowboy in Arizona. We would usually sit down and all have a beer together. But since they're not here, I have one for them". Thanks. Actually docx may be even more suitable (tho I don't know at this moment). My plan is to upload it all on google docs for private use by our team. Speaking of that, if I upload x files to google docs, can I then give a single link and a password to my buddies, where they will see a full list of file names they can choose from? No, if the documents are stored individually you'll have to share them individually. Also, there's no password-- the permission is simply keyed to their google login.

re: #81 Sergey Romanov
You could create a new google identity for the docx files, upload them all there to google docs with that identity as the owner, and then share that login and password. I do not know if this would violate Google's TOS and their multiple-IP catching security would probably make it uncomfortable.
You could use dropbox, and that might be more in line with what you want-- I think that'd allow you to define a group of documents with a single link and permission.

Half of the class had to explain to a Martian (who can read and understand English) in writing, how to tie a shoe. No pictures or diagrams allowed.
Half of the class had to explain to a Martian verbally how to tie a shoe. No hand gestures or drawing allowed.
We knew we were in trouble when Mrs. Caldwell said (she was pretending to be the Martian), "What is a shoe?"
It was a most challenging assignment.

The French President, is sitting in his office when his telephone rings.
"Hallo, Mr. Sarkozy!" a heavily accented voice said. "This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Clare, Ireland. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!"
"Well, Paddy," Sarkozy replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?"
"Right now," says Paddy, after a moment's calculation, "there is meself, me cousin Sean, me next door neighbour Seamus, and the entire darts team from the pub. That makes eight!"
Sarkozy paused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100,000 men in my army waiting to move on my command."
"Begoora!" says Paddy. "I'll have to ring you back."
Sure enough, the next day, Paddy calls again. "Mr. Sarkozy, the war is still on. We have managed to get us some infantry equipment!"
"And what equipment would that be Paddy?" Sarkozy asks.
"Well, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Murphy's farm tractor."
Sarkozy sighs amused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 6,000 tanks and 5,000 armored personnel carriers. Also, I have increased my army to 150,000 since we last spoke."
"Saints preserve us!" says Paddy. "I'll have to get back to you."
Sure enough, Paddy rings again the next day. "Mr. Sarkozy, the war is still on! We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We have modified Jackie McLaughlin's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys from the Shamrock Bar have joined us as well!"
Sarkozy was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100 bombers and 200 fighter planes. My military bases are surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I have increased my army to 200,000!"
"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!" says Paddy, "I will have to ring you back."
Sure enough, Paddy calls again the next day. "Top o' the mornin', Mr. Sarkozy! I am sorry to inform you that we have had to call off the war."
"Really? I am sorry to hear that," says Sarkozy. "Why the sudden change of heart?"
"Well," says Paddy, "we had a long chat over a few pints of Guinness, and we decided there is no fookin' way we can feed 200,000 prisoners.

It is something I'm good at, but not something I enjoy. I do have a near endless amount of patience for it, partially because technology, on the whole, is so badly goddamn designed, usually a mishmash of convention and half-baked new ideas.

What happened in Oakland?
After a day of peaceful protesting, chaos ensued.
After Oakland's Occupy strike, some turn to chaos
A long day of mostly peaceful protest on Wednesday in Oakland descended into chaos after midnight. Masked vandals shattered windows, set fires and plastered downtown businesses with graffiti before police moved in, dispersing crowds with tear gas and concussive grenades and making mass arrests.
The street clashes - which hospitalized at least three protesters and left several officers with minor injuries - happened near Occupy Oakland's tent city in a plaza outside City Hall, which had been the center of Wednesday's "general strike." That event peaked when thousands of people angry at economic inequality marched to the Port of Oakland, shutting it down.
Most of those people had gone home by 11 p.m. Wednesday, when dozens of protesters took over a vacant 2-story building at 16th Street and Broadway - two blocks from the City Hall encampment - that once housed the nonprofit Travelers Aid Society.
Hundreds of others looked on as protesters barricaded the block at both ends with wooden pallets, trash cans, tables and tires. They hung banners from the building's roof, spray painted its exterior and chanted, "Whose street, our street!" One group of protesters broke cement blocks into baseball-size rocks.
Police had kept their distance from Occupy Oakland protesters since coming under scrutiny for deploying tear gas and concussive grenades, and firing projectiles, in a clash last week that left one demonstrator with a serious head injury. Police critics said officers used excessive force and violated city policies on crowd control.
But late Wednesday, hundreds of police officers responded to the area just before midnight. They found that protesters - many covering their faces with bandanas, and some in gas masks - had started a massive trash fire at 16th and Broadway that sent flames 15 feet high.

Whenever I see someone explaining something "computer" on the web I think back to a communication experiment from the (IIRC) 5th grade (Bless you, Mrs. Caldwell, wherever you are. You were a great, creative teacher.)
Hehe. The key pretty much is always establishing the bounds of what is known in common in advance.
I took a Technical Writing course in college. That was an education in trying to write concise and detailed descriptions with an absolute minimum of words and phrases open to alternate interpretations. And an absolute killer following right on the tail of a Composition course that was trying to push creative writing where you avoided repeating things the same way in a dry manner... O_o

An Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding in Connecticut.
The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest's breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car. He says, "Sir, have you been drinking?"
"Just water," says the priest.
The trooper says, "Then why do I smell wine?"
The priest looks at the bottle and says,
"Good Lord! He's done it again!"

I like Irish jokes. My great-grandfather would be proud. :)
Here's one more...
Two Irishmen were adrift in a life boat following a dramatic escape from
a burning freighter. While rummaging through the boat's provisions, one
of the men stumbled across an old lamp. Secretly hoping that a genie
would appear, he rubbed the lamp vigorously. To the amazement of the
castaways, a genie came forth. This particular genie, however, stated
that he could only deliver one wish, not the standard three.Without giving much thought to the matter the man blurted out, "Make the
entire ocean into beer!"The genie clapped his hands with a deafening crash, and immediately the
entire sea turned into the finest brew ever sampled by mortals.Simultaneously, the genie vanished. Only the gentle lapping of beer on
the hull broke the stillness as the men considered their circumstances.One man looked disgustedly at the other whose wish had been granted.
After a long, tension filled moment, he spoke: "Nice going idiot! Now
we're going to have to piss in the boat."

As poor Pat wanders by, up from behind a tombstone she jumps in a red devil costume screaming, "Padraic Sean Flaherty, sure and ya' don't give up you're drinkin' and it's to Hell I'll take ye'".
Pat, undaunted, staggered back and demanded, "Who the hell ARE you?".
Too that the Missus replied, "I'm the divil ya' damned old fool".

An Irishman walks into a bar one day and orders three shots. He closes his eyes and bows his head over them for a moment, then drinks them down in quick succession. The next day, he comes in and does the exact same thing, and the next day as well. By this point, the bartender is intrigued, so he asks the Irishman about it. "Well, I had these two buddies in the army, and when we split up, we agreed we'd drink to each other wherever we were, in memory of the good times we had." This continued for a few weeks, until one day, when the Irishman sat down at the bar, he gestured to the bartender and said, "No, only two this time." The bartender, curious, said, "What, did one of your buddies pass on?" "No, I quit drinking."

A man stumbles up to the only other patron in a bar and asks if he could buy him a drink.
"Why of course," comes the reply.
The first man then asks: "Where are you from?"
"I'm from Ireland," replies the second man.
The first man responds: "You don't say, I'm from Ireland too! Let's have another round to Ireland."
"Of Course," replies the second man. Curious, the first man then asks: "Where in Ireland are you from?" "Dublin," comes the reply.
"I can't believe it," says the first man. "I'm from Dublin too! Let's have another drink to Dublin."
"Of course," replies the second man. Curiosity again strikes and the first man asks: "What school did you go to?"
"Saint Mary's," replies the second man. "I graduated in '62."
"This is unbelievable!" the first man says. "I went to Saint Mary's and I graduated in '62, too!"
About that time in comes one of the regulars and sits down at the bar. "What's been going on?" he asks the bartender. "Nothing much," replies the bartender. "The O'Malley twins are drunk again."

I don't actually know that last part; I've attempted to share with non-gmail accounts but they haven't reported back how it works. Easy to test yourself if you want, of course.
The sharing part talks about giving permission to groups-- maybe you could define a group and then do a batch sharing of those documents to that group? That might be the best solution.

ROFL. The Moonies published an interesting new whine from the Cain camp about the sexual harassment scandal. It's all Rahm Emanuel's fault:
Source - Rahm Emanuel involved in Cain sexual harassment accuser attacks
Herman Cain's campaign is revealing suspicions about who is behind the story regarding the former unidentified employees who accused Mr. Cain of sexual harassment in the late 1990's.
According to a source who is friends with the Cain campaign, not only is the Rick Perry campaign involved but also the Mayor of Chicago and former Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is likely involved with the sexual harassment accuser attacks. A friend of the Cain campaign believes a National Restaurant Association (NRA) employee out of the Chicago office leaked the story to the Perry campaign via information and influence from Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office.
So Rick Perry and Rahm Emanuel are working together to bring down Herman Cain, according to the Cain camp. Who knew?

I actually find it easier to sleep in an overly cold house than an overly warm one, but I'm very unusual in that regard. Hope things get resolved for you soon. I remember when I used to live in the lakeside cabin I used to rent; the wind went right through that thing, and in the dead of winter the heater would run pretty much constantly and could barely keep up. It was miserable. The only place in the house you could live in was the spare bedroom, which I had converted into my computer room. Everywhere else was just frigid, to the point where I had frost on my bedroom windows in the morning. ON THE INSIDE.

re: #152 Sergey Romanov
Iossarian, I see you're here. I (mostly) solved the problem with the file, but if you have any ready software utility in mind, please tell.
Hey there. Well, I've basically "solved" the same problem in the past, and so I had a perl script lying around that does what you need (I think):
$fc = 0;
$fn = "myfile";
$writing = 0;
while (<>) {
$line = $_;
if ($line =~ m/^bBd/) {
print "opening file $fn$fcn";
$fc = $fc + 1;
open (OH, "> $fn$fc") or die "can't open file for writing";
$writing = 1;
}
if ($writing) {
print OH $line;
}
}
It reads shell input and spits it out to "myfile1", "myfile2", etc., updating the file number each time it hits a line that begins with "bBd". So you could do something like:
$ cat hugefile | perl script.pl
and it would break up "hugefile" for you. Not sure exactly how input redirection works under a windows shell but presumably there's similar syntax for that.

Gazan terrorists continue barrages against Israel. It was a sustained skirmish, and no Israelis were injured in the attack on the Israelis who were fixing the security barrier between Israel and Gaza.
Armed Palestinians on Thursday opened fire on IDF forces that were working on the security fence near Kibbutz Zikim, north of the Gaza Strip.
The force was positioned near the fence when suddenly shots and mortar shells were fired at them from the Gaza Strip. The force responded with fire, hitting several members of the terrorist cell. No injuries reported among the IDF forces, but a military vehicle sustained light damage.
This may have been an attempt to capture an Israeli a la Shalit but were thwarted by a concerted effort by the Israelis to pin down and kill the terror cell attacking them.

It just wanted to go for a spin - and things went poorly from there.
There were constant issues like that when I lived in northern NY state. Engine blocks are *warm* after cars have been run so there were repeatedly issues in the neighborhood with wildlife and cats getting mangled because they would crawl up into the engine space from underneath to take advantage of that in periods of cold weather.

Not to nitpick, but when engaging in open fire with an adversary, doesn't that elevate one from 'terrorist' to 'militant'? Terrorists usually sneak into places and blow themselves and/or others up in a seemingly random and senseless manner. They don't openly engage much larger forces. I know, I know...I need to look at the context here. Damn terrorists.

Not true. Israel has repeatedly shown itself willing to accept a Palestinian state; the Palestinians have repeatedly shown itself unwilling to accept a 2-state solution as per Oslo. It hasn't stopped terror attacks against Israel; it hasn't stopped incitement to violence; and it refuses to make any kind of concession relating to any kind of deal.
Any deal proffered by Israel has been rebuffed without so much as a counter proposal. In other words, the Palestinians want Israel to continue negotiating with itself until the Palestinians wear Israel down and accept Palestinians' terms - which are to eliminate Israel and any notion of a Jewish state on what is currently Israel.

Strictly speaking, Israel gave quite a lot of chances to PA. Israel was even ready to give up the East Jerusalem as a capital for Palestine. Palestinian leadership refused. Now, I don't know if there were any "catches" in these plans for Palestinians, or if the refusals were pure temper tantrums, but in light of the present situation they sound like actual good solutions.

Even if Israel agreed to totally withdraw from all territories captured in June 1967 and remove 500,000 Jews from all "settlements" including all the neighborhoods around Jerusalem, the Palestinians continue to insist on a "Right of Return" into what remains of pre-1967 Israel.

It is true that they're resisting arrest.
Obviously it's a pick for cops to have people with their arms linked, and obviously they're going to have to use force to unlink them to arrest them. The cops will argue that the pepper spray in the face is a kinder way of doing this than physically yanking on their arms, but that's a contention rather than a proof.
Furthermore, if the underlying arrest is improper-- the curfew violation-- then resisting it is legal.

People around the world love a sex scandal. This would happen if Cain was black, white, blue, whatever. It's especially true if the subject is a politician or an aspiring politician in the case of Cain. On a side note, Cain's handlers are a bunch of serious amateurs with almost not political experience other than astroturfing front groups and faux-lobbying.

Another AK Militia Activist And Sovereign Citizen Linked To Schaeffer Cox Arrested
A member of the Alaska militia movement and a sovereign citizen connected with Schaeffer Cox was arrested on a weapons charge while trying to cross into Canada.
Mary Ann Morgan, a resident of Kenai, Alaska, was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, according to the criminal complaint. She had been convicted in 2001 of interfering with a child custody agreement and finished serving probation in 2003, but under Alaska law is still forbidden from ever possessing a firearm.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force of the FBI is investigating the incident, which occurred on October 27 at the Alaska Highway border crossing into Canada. According to the complaint, Morgan was trying to cross over, and declared to the Canadian Border Security Agency that she was in possession of a firearm. During a subsequent search of her car, authorities found a .32 Caliber Beretta handgun and she was turned over to American border agents and Alaska State Troopers...

And the latest on the conservative terrorists in Georgia:
Georgia terrorism suspects inspired by ex-militiaman's novel
Federal officials say that the four Georgia militia members who were arrested this week for allegedly plotting a violent terror attack were inspired by a novel their ringleader read on the Internet.
Now attention is turning to the author of that novel, Mike Vanderboegh, a blogger, Fox News commentator and former militia member from Pinson, Ala., who is no stranger to controversy.
The Associated Press reports that terror suspect Frederick Thomas, 73, was moved by Vanderboegh's novel, "Absolved," about a violent conflagration between militia members and the government.
In his introduction to the book, Vanderboegh describes it as a "useful dire warning," a book that is "as much a cautionary tale for the out-of-control gun cops of the ATF as anyone. For that warning to be credible, I must also present what amounts to a combination field manual, technical manual and call to arms for my beloved gunnies of the armed citizenry. They need to know how powerful they could truly be if they were pushed into a corner."...

I've always heard that MLU was superior in order to get the most crisp focus possible. Whether MLU is an issue will depend on shutter speed and lens involved.
I've never used it in the past, but then again, I'm focusing more on the subject matter than working on technique (though I really should concentrate on getting technically perfect images if I want to have any chance of selling any of them).

Kepp at it. IMHO-Subject and composition is more important than subtle exposure or depth of field. What's funny too is you need not use the feature itself per se. If I go to preview mode on my DSLR the mirror goes up out of the way to let the sensor run and provide the image to the display on the back or an external monitor. Convenient lock up. Preview mode is way easier to get into and out of than MLU through the menus on my Canons.
