Rich Birther Kook Will Endorse Mitt Romney

This is news?
Politics • Views: 25,312

For some reason, it’s supposed to mean something that Birther moron Donald Trump has decided to endorse Mitt Romney instead of Newt Gingrich. TIME has an all-caps BREAKING! headline to announce the earth-shaking news: BREAKING: Trump to Back Romney.

I’m sure Mitt Romney’s relieved to know he can count on the Birther vote — a significant segment of the right wing base.

Who really was sitting out there thinking, "I'm not sure who to vote for, so I better wait to see who Trump picks"?

Willard's probably trying to figure out a way to keep this at arm's length without seeming ungrateful. He is all things to all kooks, however, so it should be easy for him.

Trump will bring along at least 5 or 6 Apprentice delegates.

Damn...just damn....

And here I was hoping for Donald to back Newt - if only because the only way to contain their egos is for the creatures that sit on their heads and masquerade as hair contain things just enough to prevent total derpitude.

Still, Newt's got to be smarting from Trump endorsing his opponent. Nothing seems to be going his way these days.

I don't believe for a second that Donald Trump is truly a birther. He's an amoral opportunist who saw a chance at getting attention and another quick buck by 'stirring the pot'.

Did Trump actually register as an Independent and drop his official GOP status a month or two back, or was that just some sort of press release that indicated something that did not take place?

Before Endorsement, Trump Trashed Romney: ‘He’s Going To Lose,’ ‘He’d Get Rid Of Jobs’

Some thoughts Trump offered on Romney over the past year:

– Trump told Daily Beast columnist Meghan McCain that Romney is “going to lose” because he can’t connect with voters. “No, he’s going to lose. He doesn’t resonate, you know? Or he would have won last time, in all fairness to your father! He was scheduled to win last time, and he didn’t because your father outdid him. You understand. I watched [Romney] make a speech, and it was all these little trivial statements.”

– Trump told CNN that Romney killed jobs at Bain Capital. “Mitt Romney is basically a small business guy.” “He walked away with some money from a very good company that he didn’t create. He worked there, he didn’t create. He would buy companies, he’d close companies, he’d get rid of jobs.”

– Trump slammed Romney’s record as governor on ABC. “If you look at his record as governor, it wasn’t totally stellar. His job production was not great at all. In fact, it was the third worst in the nation. There are some pretty negative things with respect to Mitt Romney, which frankly he’s going to have to overcome.”

– Trump chided Romney’s $10,000 bet. “I don’t talk about how rich I am. Other people do. I don’t want to talk about how rich I am.”

– When Romney turned down Trump’s debate, Trump was not happy. “I was particularly surprised with Mitt Romney because he wants my endorsement very badly.”

Lidane mentioned this Jeffrey Goldberg SGK article last night, and MikeSDCA has a page linking to it, but it's definitely worth drawing more attention to. It's kind of a smoking gun that confirms what many suspected about the politics behind the Komen Planned Parenthood defunding and Karen Handel's involvement, and it show's their current official explanation to be complete BS:

[Link: www.theatlantic.com...]

The decision to create a rule that would cut funding to Planned Parenthood, according to these sources, was driven by the organization's new senior vice-president for public policy, Karen Handel, a former gubernatorial candidate from Georgia who is staunchly anti-abortion and who has said that since she is "pro-life, I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood." (The Komen grants to Planned Parenthood did not pay for abortion or contraception services, only cancer detection, according to all parties involved.) I've tried to reach Handel for comment, and will update this post if I speak with her.

The decision, made in December, caused an uproar inside Komen. Three sources told me that the organization's top public health official, Mollie Williams, resigned in protest immediately following the Komen board's decision to cut off Planned Parenthood. Williams, who served as the managing director of community health programs, was responsible for directing the distribution of $93 million in annual grants.

...

But John Hammarley, who until recently served as Komen's senior communications adviser and who was charged with managing the public relations aspects of Komen's Planned Parenthood grant, said that Williams believed she could not honorably serve in her position once Komen had caved to pressure from the anti-abortion right.

...

Hammarley explained that the Planned Parenthood issue had vexed Komen for some time. "About a year ago, a small group of people got together inside the organization to talk about what the options were, what would be the ramifications of staying the course, or of telling our affiliates they can't fund Planned Parenthood, or something in-between." He went on, "As we looked at the ramifications of ceasing all funding, we felt it would be worse from a practical standpoint, from a public relations standpoint, and from a mission standpoint. The mission standpoint is, 'How could we abandon our commitment to the screening work done by Planned Parenthood?'" But the Komen board made the decision despite the recommendation of the organization's professional staff to keep funding Planned Parenthood.

...

He called the controversy over Planned Parenthood funding "a burr in the saddle of Komen, but it withstood the issue for years and years." Hammarley said the issue became newly urgent after Handel was brought on last year. "The internal debate on a senior level rose in the past eight months or so, coinciding with her hiring."

Another source directly involved with Komen's management activities told me that when the organization's leaders learned of the Stearns investigation, they saw an opportunity. "The cart came before the horse in this case," said the source, who spoke to me on condition of anonymity. "The rule was created to give the board of directors the excuse to stop the funding of Planned Parenthood. It was completely arbitrary. If they hadn't come up with this particular rule, they would have come up with something else in order to separate themselves from Planned Parenthood."

In running for re-election, Obama will be able to say he delivered on four core objectives: restoring economic growth in one year after inheriting the worst recession since the 1930s; ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; delivering universal healthcare; and saving the now buoyant American auto sector. And Romney wants to run against Obama's record. Go for it, Mitt.

Amen to that.

You can be pretty sure this was out of a New York newspaper.

(The Post)

Tom Brady may be the quarterback in the family, but his wife is the one throwing Hail Marys.

In a disgustingly sappy e-mail, supermodel Gisele Bundchen implored friends and family yesterday to pray hard for her pretty-boy hubby to win Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Giants.

“I feel Tommy really needs our prayer, our support and love at this time,” Bundchen wrote in the message sent out to Brady-clan insiders.
The note, obtained exclusively by The Post, is hardly the stuff of Knute Rockne.

It’s filled with a touchy-feely request for “positive” thinking that one might expect from a Brazilian catwalk stunner — especially one concerned for her loved one’s safety against Big Blue’s fierce pass rush.

I have participated in seven Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walks, walking 420 miles and raising over $20K. Now that it's cutting off funds to Planned Parenthood -- funds used for vital breast exams for low-income women who have few other options for gynecological care --I am finished with this organization. Caving in to political pressure by anti-choice groups contradicts the Komen's Foundation alleged mission statement. My money and time will go to Planned Parenthood and other organizations truly looking out for women's interests rather than those of political organizations, religious organizations and pharmaceutical companies.

re: #47 Sergey Romanov

This whole mess of Komen's own doing will cut two ways. You'll see lots of people shifting funding away from Komen and to other charitable outfits, including and especially PP because of the decision to stop funding PP while they're under investigation (politically motivated at that). Other people may step up funding of Komen because they approve of cutting funding to PP.

Might be worth some investigative journalist's time and effort to see if the charity committed to that calculus in emails or other documentation of how this would affect the charity.

And in the long run, this harms Komen far more than helps. It certainly undermines its claimed mission of curing cancer and screening/prevention.

I'll stick to other cancer charities that I'm intimately familiar with instead (MSKCC and LLS).

While I tend to agree with you, what still remains to be seen is if this totally derails their ridiculous pink campaigns. How many companies will drop the pink ribbons on their packaging?
