Geraldo ‘Apologizes’ for Suggesting Trayvon’s Hoodie Killed Him

Geraldo Rivera sent an email to Politico today with one of the most absurd non-apology apologies I’ve ever read, for saying that Trayvon Martin’s hoodie was responsible for his killing. With an apology this lame and insincere, you have to wonder why he even bothered.

“I apologize to anyone offended by what one prominent black conservative called my ‘very practical and potentially life-saving campaign urging black and Hispanic parents not to let their children go around wearing hoodies,’” Rivera said in an email to POLITICO Tuesday.

Rivera said that “by putting responsibility on what kids wear instead of how people react to them I have obscured the main point that someone shot and killed an unarmed teenager,” and that he was offering a “heartfelt apology” to anyone he may have offended in his “crusade to warn minority families of the danger to their young sons inherent in gangsta style clothing; like hoodies.”

Fatuous egomaniac said what?

This is interesting, the are several commenters over at Fox News that seem to believe that now that Zimmerman has been "outed" as a registered Democrat that Latinos, not wanting to be associated with him, will switch sides and start voting Republican. One commenter even speculates the revelation could cost Obama re-election.

And then there's this:

Latinos stand strong; we conservatives feel your pain. How
many Latino's will die by the hands of the Democrats today? How many weapons
sold to the cartel by the Democrats will be used in the murder of one of your
relatives? Latinos stop the madness vote conservative.

My 14 year old son wears gangsta clothing?

He's a tall, skinny, be-spectacled dorky white kid, so I guess he can get away with it.

He'll be stalked by someone looking to steal his mechanical pencils, I suppose.

Once again proving that his head is as empty as Al Capone's vault.

Go open up Al Capone's vault again, climb inside it and don't come back out.

Geraldo is 68 now. With any luck he will soon end his career as our national buffoon, pass the clown-torch to another arsonist, and go off into dishonorable retirement.

And why should these wingnuts care if Obama is lynching a registered Deomcrat and latino? It would only be a scandal if he were Republican and white!!!!

Geraldo's a piece of work...work that's usually done by bowels.

Good thing that nobody does, then.

Yeah - that's going to work. Just like telling black people that they're too stupid to realize that they're being duped by Democrats will cause black people to flock to the polls in support of Republicans.

You have to admit: such stupidity has an element of creativity mixed in.

I can only assume that 'prominent black conservative' is someone so grounded and thoughtful as Herman Cain.

Goddamned imbecile.

Dear Geraldo:

You really should shave off that mustache, someone might mistake you for a mafia Don and decide to shoot you...

/hey it makes as much sense as his "hoodie" warnings do....

14 Mattand  Tue, Mar 27, 2012 11:43:41am

Based on Charles's original post, I was actually going to go against the grain and say it was an actual apology. Geraldo did acknowledge that blaming what a person was wearing was a stupid thing to do.

Then I came to my senses and read the Politico article. Found this gem near the bottom of the page:

“I remain absolutely convinced of what I said about asking for trouble. There’s trouble enough for minority boys and young men not to provoke mad responses from paranoid jerk offs,” he said.

And that, kids, is what we call not getting it.

I agree with that.
Luckily I wear my moustache upside down.

My youngest daughter's laptop wallpaper features herself in a hoodie, from the university's gift shop. She called me last week to let me know she made the Dean's List.

Here in Alabama, Geraldo might be stopped and questioned just for being called "Geraldo"--even without the hoodie.

Like Wyatt Cenac says, wear a propeller beanie and carry a giant lollipop.

21 CuriousLurker  Tue, Mar 27, 2012 11:46:26am

Maybe Jews should stop wearing kippahs lest they get attacked by some knuckle-dragging neo-Nazis.

Greek Orthodox priests need to shave their beards and stop wearing robes, and Sikhs also need to shave and stop wearing turbans because they might be mistaken for Muslims and attacked or killed.

Muslims should stop wearing hijab or growing beards because they scare people like Juan Williams and—who knows?—if you're in an airport of plane in Florida that might be enough to get you killed.

What a load of B.S.

Too small as posted here to really see all that clearly, the only one immediately recognizable to me was the teenage mutant ninja turtles. :)

It's easier with the small image, actually.

While we're talking about killing people, here's a commenter on The Hill discussing the SCOTUS Obamacare review. (I've got The Hill ranked as a 'sane partisan RW' site. Might slip it a little.)

rootvg 1 hour ago in reply to OldAtlantic

Obamacare goes down in June. Obama and his people see it as a declaration of war and deploy the Occupy and former ACORN crowd, who run like animals and we have another long hot summer reminiscent of those during the 1960s.

Then, we shoot them.

Geraldo Rivera: Still not as stupid as Dan Riehl.

Keep trying!

26 Batman  Tue, Mar 27, 2012 12:23:48pm
Rivera said that “by putting responsibility on what kids wear instead of how people react to them I have obscured the main point that someone shot and killed an unarmed teenager,”

It has achieved self-awareness!

27 ProdSlash  Tue, Mar 27, 2012 3:07:14pm

Rivera didn't obscure the main point. He blamed the victim. Like blaming a woman for what she wore when someone raped her. It's asinine, foolish, and ignores the primary culprit.

28 HappyWarrior  Tue, Mar 27, 2012 3:21:59pm

Gangsta? There's nothing "gangsta" about wearing a hoodie you has been idiot.

* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
* South Park
* The Smurfs
* Asterix, Obelix, Dogmatix
* Bert and Ernie
* Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey, and Louie
* Lucky Luke and the Dalton Gang

So now, according to the Great Geraldo, hoodies are officially gangsta style clothing? Good to know.
