NYC Doctor Who Treated Ebola Patients in Guinea Tests Positive
Tonight the New York Times is reporting that an American doctor who recently returned to the US after working with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea has tested positive for Ebola in an initial test, after developing a fever this morning.
All of his contacts are now being traced, but he was monitoring his own health and since he showed no symptoms until this morning, it’s unlikely he passed the disease to anyone else.
Bad news, but people like this who’ve had very close contact with sick patients are the ones most at risk of contracting the disease. Since the virus was diagnosed early, he has a good chance of recovering.
A doctor in New York City who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea tested positive for the Ebola virus Thursday, becoming the city’s first diagnosed case.
The doctor, Craig Spencer, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital on Thursday and placed in isolation while health care workers spread out across the city to trace anyone he might have come into contact with in recent days. A further test will be conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control to confirm the initial test.
