Amazingly, Another Highly-Placed Republican Resigns After Racist Comments Surface

If you can believe this, yet another highly-placed Republican adviser has been forced to resign after a series of ugly racist comments were exposed: UPDATE: Rep. Schock’s Senior Adviser Resigns Over Reports of Racist Facebook Posts.

Updated: Our colleague Ed O’Keefe has confirmed that Benjamin Cole, 38, a senior adviser to Rep. Aaron Schock for about a year, resigned Thursday.

First the liberal news site Think Progress posted a series of more than year-old racially-charged alleged Facebook posts by Rep. Aaron Schock’s senior adviser, Benjamin Cole. Shortly thereafter, BuzzfeedNews posted several more.

In one post from October 2013, Cole compared people in his D.C. neighborhood to animals escaped from the National Zoo with the hashtag #gentrifytoday. A few months later he said he witnessed a shooting, saying “one of the hood rats on my street” got shot by “another hood rat.”

Buzzfeed found a post from August 2010, where Cole wrote that a mosque should be built on White House grounds, and responded to a comment on it saying “it would be nice for the President to have his own house of worship…”

LOL, Rep. Schock defended his decorating his office like Downton Abbey because (I shit you not) he’s not some crusty old guy.

Actually, there’s another twist on that over at TPM. Short story is that the pilot of Williams’ chopper says they did take fire, but it was small arms and not a RPG.

Someone posted last night about the unreliability of human memory, so maybe Williams should be cut some slack on that.

Geez, I completely missed the “forced down” part. Here’s the TPM article with the pilot defending Williams.

If I’m reading the article correctly, the chopper Williams was in was carrying bridge parts and eventually dropped them off. Maybe that’s the “forced down” part Williams is conflating.

Anthem fined $1.7 million in 2010 breach

usatoday.com

SAN FRANCISCO - Anthem Inc., which revealed Wednesday that the records of 80 million of its customers had potentially been breached, was fined $1.7 million for a 2010 computer breach that resulted in the disclosure of personal information of approximately 612,000 people.

The fine was levied by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under HIPAA, the 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which governs the confidentiality and security of medical information.

(snip)

This week’s breach at Anthem will likely be the largest health care related breach to date as it involved as many as 80 million Anthem current and former customers. Anthem is potentially liable for fine of up to $1.5 million for the breach under HHS rules.

Hehe, I had this idea for a short story where the protagonist lives his life. Lives to be a very old man and goes to sleep one night and wakes up a teenage before but it would be difficult to do because I would want to have hints that it was a dream. Dreams can feel so vivid sometimes. Has anyone here ever gotten dream repeats. Dreams are fascinating to me. I don’t try to get any meaning out of them but one thing that fascinates me are the people in our dreams. I read that we use people, sometimes total strangers or even people we don’t even interact with at all into characters in our dreams. And it reminds me of a childhood nightmare I had where a man I had seen once became a Freddy Kruger like character.

re: #197 HappyWarrior

I dream every single night. They’re either pleasant or a bit weird, but never scary. It’s what I enjoy most about sleeping. : )

I know, it’s never that simple in real life though! Because of Inception, I started keeping a dream journal in an effort to remember my dreams more often and it helped. I actually recently had a very weird one that was very meta. I was using dreams to achieve some kind of thing. I think generate moeny and the comic Louis C.K kidnapped me. I escaped by diving into water and somehow I got reeled out with a fishnet. Now, who wants to analyze that!

Like most people, I remembered them after I woke up but it would fade with the day. My retention’s gotten better though. The weirdest are the dreams that I’m somehow conscious of the fact I’m dreaming but in a way I’m also not conscious of it either.

I very rarely remember dreams, and even the ones I do remember tend to fall into three archetypes: 1) Naked in class, 2) Late for the final in the class you don’t remember signing up for but you have to pass it or not graduate, or 3) Nameless No-No chasing you and you could get away if only you could get up and run but your legs are SO-O-O heavy you can barely get them to move.

RFK Jr isn’t even the most prominent Democrat in his immediate family. His older sister was Lt governor of Maryland and his older brother was Congressman. The big and telling difference really is how the presidential candidates of the parties are acting. Compare and contrast Hillary Clinton on vaccines vesrus Chris Christie and Rand Paul.

Chuck is now trying to spread the lie that Hurricane Katrina didn’t cause any flooding in the French Quarter - it’s false. The French Quarter didn’t have the same massive flooding as other parts of New Orleans but there was definitely some.

Well Wiki says ” The famous French Quarter dodged the massive flooding experienced in other levee areas.” I asked a local via sms… Says F.Q. was not flooded, as in spared by mot being near one of the broken levys. .

Ugh. Chucky is gonna split hairs again. A few inches not a flood by comparison…

Serious question — why are conservatives impervious to facts?

An FB friend of mine from high school who calls himself a “constitutional conservative” posted that photo of the Jordanian king in camo that’s been making the rounds. The entire exchange went like this:

Him: “This is a leader…. One who would fight along side his countrymen.”

Me: “Actually, that photo is from last year. It’s not new.”

Him: “Who cares? He followed thru on his promise to execute any ISIS if harm came to his pilot. He followed thru on his word.”

Me: “Sure. But the photo is being used to suggest that he’s personally leading the charge. He’s not. It’s an older photo from a photo op.”

Him: “He’s doing more than Fearless Leader”

What. The. FUCK. Is the conservative need for a prick-waving tough guy image so important that facts are meaningless?

RWNJs loves them some authoritarian strongmen (or, at least, those that they perceive to be, because I don’t think that King Abdullah II, Trekkie that he is (among other things), actually falls into that category).
