There They Go Again: House Republicans Set to Vote on Repealing Obamacare and Defunding Planned Parenthood

Obsession
Politics • Views: 50,515

Here we go again. After failing to pass legislation to kill Obamacare, what? 50 times now? more? …House Republicans are getting set to send another doomed bill to the Senate, this time trying to defund both Obamacare and Planned Parenthood.

It’s very unlikely to pass the Senate, because many of these Senators are coming up for re-election and they can’t count on gerrymandered voting districts like the extremists in the House can, so they have to be cautious about going too far.

Democrats say Ayotte, Kirk and other endangered incumbents will pay a political price for supporting the House package, pointing to polls showing that only a minority of voters want to repeal ObamaCare.

“Their base is demanding bills to defend Planned Parenthood and the Affordable Care Act. It’s a terrible position to put purple-state Republicans in. It’s a very easy example of the base pulling the party to the right at the expense of their 2016ers,” said a Democratic leadership aide.

[…]

Democrats are expected to oppose the package unanimously. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has twice voted in recent months to defund Planned Parenthood, but he said he would vote against similar language if combined with an ObamaCare repeal.

“That’s bullshit. Pure, unadulterated bullshit,” he said.

In the same vein:

The anti-choice extremists are hoping that enough politicians think that there’s something to those BS CMP videos refuse to fund Planned Parenthood for it to stick.

The anti-choice extremists don’t care about the lies or smears they told - the goal is to see PP shuttered and health care options for women decreased. That’s the outcome they seek. States that already offer up limited health care options for women would see even worse outcomes - Louisiana comes to mind. Mississippi too. These are states where poor women who lack other health care options go to PP for their basic health care. And if PP gets shuttered, then they’re left with going to ERs? Or skipping routine care like cancer screenings or referrals for mammograms.

This is what the extremists want, and all it takes is a few right wingers like Frelinghuysen to go along with the BS to help make that a reality. Instead of standing up and saying straight up that these lies should not be tolerated, they’re giving them undue credence.

Combat veterans shoot down NRA ‘fantasy world’ of ‘good guys with guns’

“I think there’s this fantasy world of gunplay in the movies, but it doesn’t really happen that way,” said retired Army Sgt. Rafael Noboa y Rivera. “When I heard gunfire [in Iraq], I didn’t immediately pick up my rifle and react. I first tried to ascertain where the shooting was coming from, where I was in relation to the gunfire and how far away it was. I think most untrained people are either going to freeze up, or just whip out their gun and start firing in that circumstance.”

[…]

“In chaotic situations, the first thing you know is that the sh*t has hit the fan and you don’t know where the fan is,” said Benson, who served three combat tours in Vietnam later trained elite troops.

“Unless it’s constantly drilled into you, it’s very hard to maintain discipline in those situations,” he told The Nation. “You’re immediately hit with a massive thump of adrenaline. Your mouth begins to taste like copper. You can hear the blood moving in your system. You can even experience a kind of time-warp — and the problem with that kind of state is that conscious thought shuts down because you’ve been taken over by your nervous system, and your nervous system is saying, ‘Holy sh*t, things just got really bad.’”

This is an excellent story that does an outstanding job debunking the rwnj ammosexual fantasies.

Oh boy.

According to The Detroit News, the 47-year-old woman was watching from the store’s parking lot on Tuesday as a loss prevention officer appeared to be trying to stop a shoplifter. When the suspects tried to flee in a dark SUV, the woman pulled out her concealed 9mm handgun and began shooting.

The SUV escaped but police believed that at least one of the bullets hit the vehicle, flattening a tire. The suspects were described as two men in their 40s, one black and one white. It was not immediately clear if either of the men were shot as they fled.

The Detroit Free Press reported that the woman had a concealed carry permit and was cooperating with law enforcement. Auburn Hills police had not decided if the woman would be charged.

Trying to hit a moving vehicle? She’s lucky she didn’t injure or kill any bystanders.

No matter how often they get legislatively pole-axed, beheaded, or head-shot, they just keep shuffling mindlessly forward flailing their arms and grunting “Obamacare” “abortion” “Benghazi.” They get uglier and the stench grows more hideous with every episode as well.

Speaking of which, I’ve been catching up on TWD lately.
A random obervation: It occurred to me that this is set in a slightly alternate reality where the zombie mythos does not exist. The writers may actually have said so and I just missed it since I don’t frequent TWD message boards. Without this omission, the survivors would all be calling them zombies rather than each group having its own term; walkers, biters, rotters, roamers, etc. The survivors certainly would have made the connection immediately in the early stages, and perhaps responded more appropriately, if they had been familiar with the concept at all.
In any case, leaving out the existing zombie lore does make for a better and less confusing narrative, while requiring only a slightly greater suspension of belief.

Funny, you could try life without living paranoid about everyone being out to get you. I’ve been in high crimes far more than your average gun nut and yet I never felt like i needed to be arm to be safe. Why? Because I am not a paranoid fuckstick.

Texas Education Board Members Dismiss Textbook Kerfuffle

Some State Board of Education members are dismissing a social media-driven backlash against a high school textbook the 15-member elected body approved last year that describes African slaves as immigrant “workers,” with one Republican [David Bradley, a Republican education board member from Beaumont] saying the whole ordeal would “make for a great Jerry Seinfeld episode: something out of nothing.
……………
…the section of the textbook titled “Patterns of Immigration” describes European indentured servants as working “for little or no pay” but fails to describe the similar, and worse, circumstances for slaves.

These people live in an alternate reality, a mental world of danger and violence at every turn. I can identify the feeling because I felt that way in Baghdad and Mogadishu and Vietnam. “There” is not “here” though, and it is true derangement not to be able to tell the difference.

That’s where Rand Paul is just stupid wrong about the warning ‘stickers’ deterring any shooter; they fully expect to die; their desire is to kill as many as possible before they’re captured or shot.

Aw, come on! I like the Packers for a damn good reason. The city owns the team. That’s a big deal for me. Plus they’re actually a damn good team on their own merits, especially these days.

I grew up a Cowboys fan and even went to a Super Bowl when I was kid (Super Bowl XIII - Cowboys/Steelers), since Mom knew one of the team doctors and he gave us tickets to the game. Then Jerry Jones bought them and summarily fired Tom Landry. I didn’t care that he fired Landry. I cared that he treated a goddamn living legend like a temp who’d stolen office supplies when he did it. I’ve never forgiven Jerry for that, and never will. My only other option while living in Houston was the Oilers, and they had an asshole owner of their own in Bud Adams.

I love football, but hated the thought of tossing my allegiance to a team with an asshole owner. Green Bay are the only ones who are municipally owned. I dig that. Ergo, I’m a fan. Plus, unlike Cowboys and Texans fans, Cheeseheads are dedicated to their team, considering Lambeau has been sold out for about 50+ years now.

SteveMcGaziBolaGate  Oct 7, 2015 • 11:59:04am

I don’t think you can really be a fan until your team sucks. Cowboy fans lay low and then come out of the woodwork as soon as they win a couple of games. Eagles fans, for example got sick of Andy Reid and eventually the team went south after a pretty good run. Couldn’t wait to get rid of him, but you should have heard the ovation he got when he came back to town with the Chiefs. That’s pretty typical around here, except fro Scott Rolen and JD Drew. Or Andrew Bynum.

It’s complicated.

Right. Which is why I like Green Bay. Packers fans don’t give a shit if the team is winning or not. Lambeau Field will be sold out either way. I respect that.

Now remember, this is in sporting context, but I don’t respect that at all! The Packers are all they got. They’d root for a soccer team if that was all they had. They’re not going for a football game. They’re going because they have to pack 52 weeks’ entertainment into about 10 Sundays.

Not the Cleveland Barons :-)

Our HS jazz band played one of their games (during their shot lived time in Cleveland). Our drummer forgot his sticks (I know, drummers). Gregg Allman was playing a gig in Cleveland and was at the game. His drummer lent our drummer sticks. Ahhh, brushes with greatness.
