Donald Trump Explicitly Advocates Torture: “Torture Works”

In case you were wondering if Donald Trump really was endorsing torture when he said a few days ago he’d approve interrogation methods “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding,” today at his town hall event in South Carolina he came right out and explicitly advocated torture.

Not just “enhanced interrogation.” Torture.

The leading Republican candidate for president is a fan of torture. What? It’s a war crime and an egregious violation of the Geneva Conventions? You think Donald Trump cares about that?

During a question and answer session moderated by South Carolina State Rep. Bill Herbkersman, Trump was asked whether he would approve of waterboarding.

“Absolutely,” Trump said, as he has said before. But there was more.

“I said I’ll approve it immediately, but I’ll make it also much worse. They said what do you mean,” Trump said, referring to an ABC News debate in February.

“I said they’re chopping off our heads in the Middle East. They want to kill us. They want to kill us. They want to kill our country. They want to knock out our cities. And don’t tell me it doesn’t work. Torture works, okay folks?…Believe me, it works.”

Derp alert:

Obama set the stage for Trump. Right. Not the GOP going bugnuts - complete with obstructionism to everything Obama suggests, no matter how reasonable. Obama won reelection in 2012, and the GOP took it upon itself to destroy Obama by any means necessary.

That’s on Obama? Really? If only Obama did more outreach, even as the GOP was proposing scorched earth tactics to obstruct and deny everything Obama did from 2009 forward.

John, if you were led to support a conspiracy nutjob who retweets white supremacists, that’s on you and not on President Obama. Stop blaming Obama who’s been actually fairly conservative (by dictionary) standards for the Republican party being willing to nominate a guy who openly advocates torture. That’s your fault. I am so sick of them blaming Obama for their own problems that began years before Obama was even born. The Republican Party has gone after the votes of the angry bigots for years. What a shock that one day that one of them would become the party’s frontrunner.

That’s right Donald. Go ahead and talk like you can unilaterally change the terms of international agreements (NAFTA, Iran Nuclear Compliance, Geneva Convention, etc). Keep throwing out the red meat for your rabid supporters, they have got to be having Trumpgasms by the moment.

SPIT. Each time I think that the current GOP can go no lower, they find yet another way to lower the bar. The worst part is that now many of them are going to adapt the same positions, but just phrase it in a more ‘civilized’ tone.

What can this man do that will cause his fans to go “Hey, now that’s over the top…. what was I thinking?”.

I’ve always like the take on torture between Humphrey Bogart and Sydney Greenstreet in “The Maltese Falcon”

Sam Spade: If you kill me, how are you going get the bird? And if I know you can’t afford to kill me, how are you going to scare me into giving it to you?

Kasper Gutman: Well, sir, there are other means of persuasion besides killing and threatening to kill.

Sam Spade: Yes, that’s… That’s true. But, there’re none of them any good unless the threat of death is behind them. You see what I mean? If you start something, I’ll make it a matter of your having to kill me or call it off.

Kasper Gutman: That’s an attitude, sir, that calls for the most delicate judgment on both sides. Because, as you know, sir, in the heat of action men are likely to forget where their best interests lie and let their emotions carry them away.

Sam Spade: Then the trick from my angle is to make my play strong enough to tie you up, but not make you mad enough to bump me off against your better judgment.

Kasper Gutman: By gad, sir, you are a character.

At this point I just have to hope that “Trump Fatigue” sets in, that the voters start viewing him like that one (blatant sexism ahead) really hot girl we all knew… the one that was a super good time and HAWT, along with super crazy. It was a lot of fun at first, but eventually you realized that no amount of entertainment was worth the mental anguish that came with it.

And showing my work - here’s where I got the figures for Maine.

ccmaine.org

Refugees in Maine have come from over 30 countries in: Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Former Soviet Republics, Middle East, Eastern Africa, South/Central America, Caribbean and Cuba. Current refugee populations that are coming to Maine are from Somalia, Sudan, Congo, Ethiopia, Burma, Iran and Iraq. Trends in refugee resettlement mirror the conflicts and tragedies that are happening worldwide and as such, Maine has most recently assisted in the resettlement of Eastern African and Middle Eastern refugees.

In the last 40 years, RIS has assisted over 9,000 people through its resettlement program and assisted over 20,000 with refugee and asylee support services. In fiscal year 2015, RIS resettled 442 primary refugees and assisted more than 66 secondary migrants and 77 asylees in becoming self-sufficient new members of our community. Similar populations and arrivals are expected to be resettled in FY16.

Oh, and the regions where the refugees/asylum seekers are coming from aren’t exactly Zika regions - Central and South America is the primary area where Zika is active, not Africa or Asia.

Torture works…

…if you’re trying to make someone say something, anything, to avoid discomfort.

Scream “tell the truth” at them and they’ll just keep inventing shit until a statement makes you stop hurting them—even if only momentarily. Feed them a scenario and demand they confirm or deny it…and they’ll do whichever one they think will end the pain.

If the factual Truth of a matter does match the expectation of the torturer, then they will keep inflicting pain. If there is a fiction that the torturer deems true., they can prompt the tortured to “confess” this fiction as fact

Veracity is non-sequitur to compliance. Which is why there are so many dead “witches.”

Now let’s look at this backward: what’s the standard of veracity that this current crop of pro-torture jerks cleave to? Not just the Trumpenproletariat…every asshole who cited “24” to justify AbU Gharib. It’s a trick question: they don’t have one. They belief things to be true, then works backwards to confirm their position. Contradictory information is the product of conspiracy and delusion.

TYT were having a spasm over Cooper asking softball questions, questions such as about sports.

Well, of the 130 million or so votes that will be cast come election day, I suspect many of them will be done simply on a feeling that ‘I like him (or her)’, with no analytic process at all.

It’s up for interpretation, but I’d saying it’s about being an artist confronting mortality. Basically you are a creator (an artist) and you will inevitably die, and to choose to look at that inevitability rather than away from it.

I know we all have Trump fatigue, but seriously. This should be major news.

I’m sure the ratings are sky-high. They put Trump on the TV, everyone says they hate him, but the ratings go up and up and up. At this point, I’m sure most stations are gleeful at the idea of Trump at the GOP convention, and ecstatic at the idea of Trump in the White House. Can you imagine the ratings? They’d make so much money — so I’m sure the bigwigs are doing all they can to promote him at this point. Sure, it’ll suck for almost everyone. But TV people are rich, and that means Trump will make sure they’re okay.

Because polls regularly show half of Americans approve of torturing terror suspects. Also, the news networks don’t have the fucking balls to actually call torture what it is since the Cheney/Addington/Yoo wing of the GOP rewrote the last 700 years of English language to turn torture into a college prank. Too bad our stenographers media doesn’t call out The Donald on his noxious behavior during the Central Park Jogger Case.

But examples of overt racism were perhaps kept behind closed doors in the late 1980s.

One year after the Central Park Five were convicted, John O’Donnell, a former executive who ran Trump Plaza hotel and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, published a tell-all alluding to his former boss’s casual racism behind closed doors.

He quoted Trump as saying: “I’ve got black accountants at Trump Castle and at Trump Plaza. Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”

In a later interview with Playboy magazine, Trump labelled his former employee a “fucking loser” but added: “The stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true.”

Trump is the political Honey Badger-“He don’t care, he don’t give a shit.”

I used to buy into the theory that Trump was a joke or even a plant. Stopped believing it after he did so well in the polls and said such awful racist things. Now that he’s going after W. on Iraq and 9/11, I’m starting to wonder again if he’s trolling the GOP. Explicitly referencing torture in this way could be another example of trolling. But more likely that’s wishful thinking unfortunately…

Welcome, hatchling!

She does kind of look like Frau. That does make me wonder, if Rosa Klebb, the real inspiration for Frau was inspired by Ayn Rand in anyway. Probably just a coiincidence but the character is Russian IIRC From Russia With Love.

As a New Yorker, I can assure you that for ages The Donald has been trolling the taxpayer via tax abatements and exemptions and the shirking of other civic duties that the average citizen takes for granted. That’s his shtick: avoiding responsibility and making buko bucks off of it.

Jeb? hangs by a thread. Two polls of the SC primary show him within striking distance of Cruz and Rubio for second; the rest show him battling for fourth with Kasich and Carson. A shift of a few thousand votes either way will decide if his campaign survives to Super Tuesday or not.

Well gang, I’m off to bed. Study for a while and then turn off the light and sleep the sleep of the innocent. (Damned if I know how I manage to pull that off… but not complaining).

Catch you all later on. Remember, keep your stick on the ice.

That requires a quick elimination of other candidates so that the anti-Trump vote can coalesce. If Rubio could manage a clear second place finish in SC, it would hugely facilitate that process.

Tonight’s SC television spots (and I only watched TV for about an hour—none of the clowns; thought I’d be safe on Food Network or HGTV, but NOOO)
Right to Rise—anti-Rubio ad
Right to Rise—anti-Kasich ad
Club for Growth—anti-Trump/pro Jeb ad
Trey Gowdy mush-mouthing through a Rubio ad
and/as a palate cleanser
a really good Hillary ad about systemic racism

Thank dog I didn’t have to see the Cruz ad with the Trump action figure (that looks more like Cruz than trump) knocking over a doll house. Last night it gave me nightmares.

In any case, Trump’s enthusiasm for torture raises an important question: What else does the Donald want to do that we used to hang war criminals for?

Just hope we’ve done enough outreach to the Dems to make sure they know our primary is the 27th, so they don’t go out to vote this Saturday, realize it’s the Repubs primary and say fuckit and vote in theirs.

“Then they killed the bear and made jerky and sold the fur. Then the jerky ran out and they had to support the family. That’s when goverment got involved. They gave out jerky even to those who were not attacked by bears. Then people started to say they were attacked by bears just to get jerky. Then they sold the jerky to get hard cider. Pretty soon people who were attacked by bears couldn’t get jerky because the jerky jerks got it all. And that’s where we are today.”

And that makes more sense than half of what he says….
